It Seemed My Fiancé Hated Me, So I Distanced Myself—But for Some Reason, He Complained - Chapter 49
And so my turn arrived.
I nervously guided everyone to the room I had timidly prepared in advance.
“Please come in.”
“This is it?”
Lady Anastasia made a dubious face.
The room I had prepared was simple. Just a table covered with a white tablecloth, a tea stand, and tea utensils set out.
Though I had tried my best to select the highest quality items, after seeing the luxurious room Lady Anastasia had prepared, mine looked quite plain in comparison.
“It’s quite ordinary, isn’t it?”
Lady Anastasia snorted. Lord Lucas shot her a sharp glare.
The three princes—Theodore, Jenna, and Avery—didn’t show it as overtly as Lady Anastasia, but their faces clearly showed disappointment.
I could feel them thinking, “So this is all she’s capable of after all.”
Sensing the bad start, I urged the three to take their seats.
Among the maids, Camilla was assigned to assist with serving. As she prepared the tea, Camilla whispered softly in my ear.
“Lady Clarissa, there’s no need to look so worried. Didn’t we practice so much together?”
“Y-yes, you’re right. I’ll do my best.”
I replied with a hint of desperation.
But had my face looked so anxious that I worried Camilla? Realizing I shouldn’t let it show, I hurriedly forced a smile.
After brewing tea for everyone, Camilla stepped back to stand by the wall.
And so, the tea party began.
“Well then… Thank you all for joining us today for our tea party challenge.”
I started by expressing my gratitude.
The three princes’ gazes were cold. However, Prince Theodore, though looking bored, at least gave a reply.
“Not at all. Since you are the one my brother has chosen as a fiancée candidate, we are glad to have this opportunity to get to know you.”
“Th-thank you. I would be happy if, through today’s tea party, I could earn even a little of your approval.”
“I hope my brother didn’t choose you just for your appearance.”
Prince Theodore said in a detached tone.
The atmosphere at the table was as cold as ice.
Prince Theodore watched me with utterly disinterested eyes, while Prince Jenna fiddled boredly with his nails.
Only Prince Avery sat there smiling cheerfully, but whenever our eyes met, he flashed a smug, mischievous grin.
This atmosphere right from the start—I had expected it, but the difference from Lady Anastasia was stark.
Glancing briefly at the table at the back of the room, I saw Lady Anastasia watching us with a triumphant look on her face.
