It Seemed My Fiancé Hated Me, So I Distanced Myself—But for Some Reason, He Complained - Chapter 43
“His Highness Theodore has quite a contrasting atmosphere compared to His Highness Lucas, doesn’t he? While His Highness Lucas has a warm aura like spring sunshine, His Highness Theodore seems to carry a dignified air like ice.”
“Ice, huh? Theodore’s impression sounds cooler. I’m jealous that Clarissa thinks of him that way.”
His Highness Lucas covered his mouth with his hand and began speaking with an utterly serious expression.
I had only casually mentioned my impression without much thought.
Though I do think icy coldness has its charm, I prefer spring sunshine, so I tilted my head in confusion.
His Highness Lucas spoke as if collecting himself.
“Indeed, I also think Theodore and I are completely different. If I had been able to understand Theodore a bit better, perhaps I wouldn’t have cornered him like that.”
“Cornered…? Your Highness Lucas, did something happen between you and His Highness Theodore in the past?”
Though I hesitated whether it was appropriate to ask, my curiosity got the better of me and I ended up inquiring.
His Highness Lucas opened his mouth as if to say something, then closed it again. After that, he shook his head.
“No. It’s nothing. Sorry for saying something strange. There was just a minor incident-like thing in the past.”
“An incident…”
“Really, it’s nothing significant. I don’t even know if Theodore was truly involved. Here we are at a tea party, and I’m bringing up boring topics. Let’s talk about something more enjoyable.”
His Highness Lucas spoke as if smoothing things over. His face showed no trace of the melancholy from earlier.
And so, the conversation about the brothers came to a temporary end.
Though I still had some concerns, I decided to follow His Highness’s lead and not probe further for now.
As I watched His Highness Lucas, who had completely returned to his usual bright expression, I thought again how little I actually knew about him.
Perhaps it was natural since we’d just met, but it made me feel somewhat sad.
Before we had spoken directly, my impression of His Highness Lucas, the First Prince, was of a strong, perfect person from a distant world.
Actually speaking with him up close, he was much more approachable than he appeared from afar, but my impression of him as perfect and flawless remained unchanged.
However, when His Highness Lucas was speaking about His Highness Theodore earlier, he somehow seemed very vulnerable.
That expression somehow overlapped with the expression he had when we first met in the palace corridor, when he had looked at me warily.
His Highness Lucas might not be as strong and perfect as I had thought.
