- Chapter 6 - Legal Bonds and Late-Night Views
Following the completion of their formal registration, Asayer and Lu Li walked side-by-side out of the Imperial Bureau.
“(My Lord),” Asayer began smoothly, his tone professional, “allow me to escort you back to your current residence. Alternatively, you are welcome to survey my private real estate portfolio and select any estate there to serve as our primary household.”
As they stepped into the courtyard, Lu Li’s optical terminal emitted a sharp, rhythmic chime. Glancing down at the projection, his brain instantly short-circuited. Holy mother of code. The balance on his primary bank account had suddenly accumulated an absurd string of commas and uncomputable zeroes.
Stunned by this sudden, astronomical downpour of wealth, Lu Li took a second to connect the dots. Wait, this can’t possibly be mine… Is this Asayer’s personal capital?
He immediately turned to the silver-haired general. “Asayer, this massive influx of credits into my account just now… did it come from your personal funds?”
“Yes, My Lord,” Asayer replied calmly, his posture immaculate. “According to Imperial law, the moment our marriage registration is finalized, the vast majority of my liquid assets, corporate holdings, and real estate are legally transferred under your name.”
What am I supposed to do with all this money? Lu Li thought, his modern moral compass instantly rebelling against the concept. He worked his absolute tail off in the military to earn this fortune. As his husband, even if I’m not rich enough to pamper him like a king yet, how could I possibly just sit back and comfortably pocket his hard-earned cash?
“I honestly don’t have much use for this level of capital,” Lu Li said earnestly, meeting Asayer’s gemstone eyes. “As an active military officer, you probably have a million things to fund. Can we just transfer all of this straight back into your account?”
Hearing a Male speak with such profound empathy and casual financial generosity left Asayer completely stunned for a fraction of a second.
In his experience, Males were inherently ravenous, parasitic creatures. They lived to exploit the system, eagerly seizing every scrap of capital their First Wives and consorts brought to the table while contributing absolutely nothing in return.
By Imperial decree, a married Female’s entire life savings legally belonged to their master, leaving them at the absolute mercy of a Male who would likely squander it on lavish banquets and personal vices, tossing back only a few measly crumbs for basic survival.
Lu Li’s immediate refusal to exploit him forced Asayer to recalibrate his perspective of the young Male—even if only slightly. Then again, who knows? Perhaps this newly discovered Male is simply playing an incredibly sophisticated long game, trying to secure my absolute trust before dropping the trap.
Regulating his features, Asayer pressed his thin lips into a straight line, keeping his tone carefully detached.
“The marital codes are absolute, My Lord. Upon marriage, my assets belong to you. We can discuss alternative arrangements at a later date.”
Seeing the icy resolve in the general’s eyes, Lu Li could only drop the subject for now.
The remainder of the journey passed in a comfortable, quiet truce as their automated transport glided through the capital’s transit lanes, eventually docking at Lu Li’s private villa.
Stepping back over his own threshold, Lu Li felt a wave of profound relief wash over him. This house was his absolute safe zone.
The moment the main doors slid open, Yuanyuan came whirring forward to greet them, its digital optical display blinking with energy. “Master! Welcome home!”
“Yuanyuan, come here,” Lu Li said, his tone carrying a distinct weight of respect as he gestured to the silver-haired general beside him. “This is my (Female Sovereign). From this day forward, he is the co-owner and master of this entire household.”
Hearing the sheer gravity and unblinking sincerity in Lu Li’s declaration, Asayer’s long lashes fluttered minutely, a faint ripple disturbing the icy calm of his eyes.
“Understood, Master Sovereign!” Yuanyuan chirped happily, its screen flashing a warm, respectful green. “Welcome to the household, Master Sovereign. I am the intelligent domestic automation butler, Yuanyuan. I look forward to managing your comfort!”
With its formal greetings completed, the little robot whirred on its heel and spun back toward the rear glass doors.
The premium seeds Lu Li ordered yesterday had arrived in bulk, and Yuanyuan was completely occupied with mapping out the backyard soil beds, carefully spacing the plots so that its master would have a flawless setup. All Lu Li would need to do later was walk through the rows and apply his refined Wood-element energy to spark the harvest.
With Yuanyuan leaving to tend to the fields, Asayer found himself standing alone in the expansive living room with his new husband. To break the sudden, heavy silence, the military officer cleared his throat slightly.
“My Lord, the midday hour approaches. Is there a specific menu you wish to have prepared? Alternatively, do you possess any severe dietary restrictions I should note?”
Hearing Asayer’s quiet, attentive questions, Lu Li’s romantic inner thoughts immediately went into a complete, dizzying spiral:
My wife is literally the sweetest, most attentive angel on earth. He’s asking if I’m hungry! He cares about my health! He’s worried about my comfort! This means he doesn’t hate me! He definitely likes me!
However, as a thoroughly civilized, twenty-four-karat modern gentleman, how could Lu Li possibly stand by and watch his elite warrior-wife slave away over a hot stove on day one?
Besides, as the old saying goes: The fastest way to a partner’s heart is directly through their stomach.
Before Asayer could turn toward the kitchen suite, Lu Li reached out, his fingers gently but firmly catching the edge of the general’s pristine sleeve.
“What would you like to eat, Asayer? I’ll handle the kitchen today. Let me cook a proper meal for my wife.”
Hearing such a completely upside-down, structurally scandalous statement drop from a high-tier Male’s mouth, Asayer froze entirely. Is this Male seriously going this far to maintain his facade? Is he truly willing to lower himself to manual kitchen labor just to bypass my defenses?
Seeing the sheer bewilderment written across Asayer’s breathtaking features, Lu Li’s internal tail wagged with absolute pride.
Look at that, my wife is completely speechless! He must be incredibly moved by my devotion.
Hehe, I knew it! Who could possibly resist a sweet, attentive husband who knows his way around a kitchen? Just you wait, general, I am going to win your heart completely!
“I have no dietary restrictions,” Asayer managed to reply, his military composure thoroughly tested as he looked at the smaller male. “But… does the Imperial Lord genuinely possess culinary training? I am entirely capable of assisting if required.”
In reality, the Admiral was deeply, structurally terrified that Lu Li was about to accidentally detonate the kitchen’s induction cores.
He could already visualize the trashy capital tabloids running a front-page headline tomorrow morning: “Tragedy on Day One: Admiral Asayer’s Kitchen Mysteriously Explodes. Is the Military Plotting Male Assassination?” He would be dragged before the high councils for treason before the week ended.
Anxious about the safety of his career, Asayer quietly trailed behind as Lu Li strolled into the kitchen, positioning himself just outside the threshold to discreetly monitor the situation.
But as the minutes ticked by, his tactical apprehension transformed into genuine wonder.
Against all universal laws governing Male behavior, Lu Li actually knew exactly what he was doing. His movements were fluid, precise, and highly efficient. While the exact flavor combinations and structural presentation of the dishes were entirely foreign to Asayer’s star-charts, the visual layout looked immaculate, and the aroma drifting past the extractor fans was intensely fragrant.
Satisfied that the kitchen wasn’t going to turn into a warzone, Asayer slipped away, casually wandering the corridors of the villa to assess his new living conditions.
To his immense surprise, the property was exceptionally well-maintained. The layout was organized, clean, and completely devoid of the decadent, chaotic clutter that usually littered the estates of high-ranking Males who indulged in wild capital parties. It looked like the home of someone who genuinely valued a quiet, disciplined life.
As he was concluding his sweep, Lu Li’s bright, vibrant voice echoed clearly down the hallway.
“Asayer! Lunch is served! Come and get it while it’s hot!”
Steeling his resolve, Asayer walked back to the dining area.
Until he could completely unmask this Male’s true intentions, the general decided it was safest to adhere strictly to traditional Imperial marital protocol. He would play the part of a perfectly compliant, submissive First Wife to avoid triggering any volatile tempers.
Thus, the moment Lu Li went to pull out a chair, he found Asayer standing rigidly beside the table, bowing his silver head with absolute formality.
“My Lord, allow me to attend to your plate and serve your meal,” Asayer announced, his voice stiff and deferential.
Having spent his entire life in a modern, democratic world, Lu Li almost choked on his own breath at the sheer servitude of the display.
“Whoa, Asayer, stop, stop!” Lu Li immediately protested, reaching out to gently guide the tall general down into the adjacent chair. “We are equal partners in this marriage. You don’t ever need to do that under this roof. We’re just two people sharing a home; let’s just sit down and enjoy our lunch together.”
“Come on, try the food. Let me know if it suits your palate. If you like it, I’ll make it for you every day.”
Asayer’s silver eyebrows raised a fraction of an inch at the declaration. He had to admit, this little Male Lord of his was turning out to be an absolute anomaly compared to the rest of his species.
Looking at the spread before him, Asayer felt a sudden, unexpected spike of genuine appetite.
Throughout his years on active duty, very few things had ever managed to spark his personal interest—and frankly, across the galaxy, nothing tasted more universally depressing than sterile, military-grade nutrient pastes.
Reaching out with his chopsticks, he picked up a perfect, gleaming cube of Sweet and Sour Pork and popped it into his mouth. The moment the flavors hit his tongue, his heterochromatic eyes widened with instant brilliance.
It was phenomenal. The perfect equilibrium of sharp sweetness and rich savoriness exploded across his palate—a culinary sensation completely foreign to the Zerg Empire.
Lu Li didn’t miss the sudden, radiant flash of joy in his wife’s eyes. Bingo! My general definitely has a sweet-and-sour tooth. Noted. I’m adding that to the permanent rotation.
The meal passed in a light, satisfying rhythm, and before long, the afternoon sun dipped below the horizon, ushering in the quiet shadows of the evening.
Throughout the afternoon, Asayer had remained locked away in his thoughts, meticulously evaluating his tactical position.
While every fiber of his being fiercely resisted the idea of blindly surrendering his body to a stranger on night one, he knew the political cost of refusal. If Lu Li became dissatisfied with his compliance, the Male Protection Association would legally intervene, escalating the issue into a state-level crisis. Such a development would completely destroy his remaining leverage at military headquarters.
Ultimately, physical intimacy was a secondary sacrifice compared to the survival of his fleets and his family’s honor.
Steeling his heart, Asayer marched into the master suite’s adjoining bathroom.
Standing beneath the warm mist, the proud general fought down the burning wave of raw embarrassment coursing through his veins. He spent nearly an hour mentally preparing himself for the inevitable duty ahead. Finally, tying the silky white fabric of his robe loosely around his waist, he took a deep breath and stepped out into the bedroom.
Lu Li had just walked into the room to grab a change of clothes when the scene before him completely stole the oxygen right out of his lungs.
