“Xiao Lu, here, have some water and take a quick break.”
“Sure. Thanks, Brother Gu. You should rest too, don’t push yourself so hard.”
Lu Li accepted the water container from his team captain, Gu Shi. Taking a slow sip, he immediately felt a wave of relief wash over him.
The year was Galactic 5023, and a catastrophic zombie horde had erupted. To survive, humanity had developed ability-awakening serums to fundamentally reconstruct the human physique. Through continuous genetic enhancements, a select minority evolved into psychics wielding extraordinary powers. These awakened individuals voluntarily organized squads to combat the zombies and carve out a living.
Lu Li, wielding rare dual-element control over both Water and Wood, possessed formidable combat strength. As the youngest member of the squad coupled with his harmless, incredibly endearing features everyone naturally treated him like a coddled younger brother.
“I’ll go patrol the perimeter first. Head back inside the tent and get some sleep, Xiao Lu. Everyone has been utterly exhausted these past few days,” Gu Shi said gently.
“Alright, Brother Gu. I’ll take a quick nap. Wake me up in a bit so we can swap shifts. You need to rest too, don’t run yourself into the ground,” Lu Li replied.
—— Spatial Rift: The Zerg Empire ——
“Reporting to the Commander! We have discovered an unconscious Male Lord on the planet ahead.”
A Male? How could a noble Male Lord possibly end up on a desolate, godforsaken border planet like this? The commanding officer pushed the question aside. The absolute priority right now was to transport the Male Lord back to the Capital Planet for immediate medical treatment.
Pain. Severe, splitting pain.
Lu Li’s eyelashes fluttered weakly as he struggled to force his eyes open, desperate to see what was happening. Shouldn’t I be resting in the squad tent, waiting to wake up and take over Brother Gu’s shift?
“My Lord! You’re finally awake!” Seeing a response from the patient, the medical insect cried out in sheer excitement.
The frantic shouting echoed sharply in his ears.
Male Lord? Are they talking to me?
Lu Li opened his eyes, only to be utterly startled by the massive crowd of people—or rather, creatures—surrounding him.
Where on earth was he? Where were Brother Gu and the rest of the team? And why were the people here so unnaturally tall? The doctor standing directly in front of him stood nearly two meters tall, and the surrounding figures were easily well over two meters.
“Honorable Male Lord, do you feel any lingering discomfort anywhere in your body right now? Would you like to lie back down in the medical pod for a bit longer?”
Honorable Male Lord? They are definitely addressing me. I am distinctly a human being, so how could I have turned into some kind of insect? Lu Li’s mind was a chaotic mess.
“Excuse me… where exactly is this?” Lu Li asked, a touch of profound bewilderment pooling in his dark eyes.
The medical insect, who was entirely accustomed to Males being universally arrogant, overbearing, and demanding, found himself momentarily disoriented by the sight of such a pure, endearing young Male.
The doctor softened his tone significantly, speaking with immense gentleness. “This is the Capital Planet, My Lord. You are currently receiving treatment after being caught in an strike by an unidentified object. As soon as your evaluations are clear, you will be able to return home immediately.”
The Zerg Empire? What kind of place is this?
How did I even end up here? Could I have been unlucky enough to be dragged into a spatial rift during the chaos and thrown into an alternate dimension?
If that’s the case, how am I supposed to get back? Brother Gu and the others must be frantic searching for me right now.
The doctor’s words, compounded by the sudden shock of an entirely foreign world, left Lu Li’s thoughts completely tangled. But he knew this wasn’t the time to panic. He forced himself to calm down. His immediate priority was to find a safe place to rest, map out the current geopolitical situation, and then slowly figure out a way home.
“Um… I’m terribly sorry. I think I might have sustained a severe blow to my head,” Lu Li said, scratching his head with a perfectly executed look of utter confusion. “I don’t seem to remember where my home is.”
The medical insect paled in horror. This shouldn’t be happening. Scientifically speaking, the Male Lord’s physical injuries had been fully healed. Where could the anomaly possibly be? If a noble Male suffered permanent brain damage under their care, they could never shoulder the responsibility. They had to contact the Male Protection Association immediately.
“My Lord, I must trouble you to accompany me for a much more comprehensive examination so we can analyze the issue in detail.”
“Alright. Thank you for your trouble,” Lu Li replied with polite detachment.
Back in the examination room, the doctor stared at the diagnostic reports in his hands. Everything was perfectly normal; the patient was in peak physical health.
What on earth went wrong to cause amnesia in a Male Lord? Unable to risk the fallout, the hospital immediately processed an emergency alert to the Association.
“My Lord, representatives will arrive shortly to escort you. Please take a brief rest here.”
With that, the medical insect guided Lu Li out of the laboratory and into a luxurious VIP lounge. Within moments, an assortment of coffee, fine candies, and elaborate pastries everything traditionally favored by Males was elegantly laid out before him.
Having lived in a bleak, resource-starved post-apocalyptic world for so long, Lu Li hadn’t seen such exquisite, high-end provisions in ages. However, stranded in an entirely alien environment, he refrained from making any reckless moves and kept his guard up.
Before long, a flurry of hurried footsteps sounded outside, followed by an anxious voice.
“Where is the noble Male Lord?”
“My Lord, you have suffered so terribly! How could you possibly lose your memories? Where exactly did the security breach occur? Did some audacious, wretched insect dare to inflict harm upon you?”
“Please do not be frightened, Your Grace!” Ellis, the Vice Chairman of the Male Protection Association, burst into the room, speaking in a frantic rush. “Please speak freely, My Lord! Name any grievance or injustice you have suffered, and the Association will absolutely execute justice on your behalf!”
“No, Comrade… uh, Officer. I haven’t suffered any grievances,” Lu Li replied smoothly. “But I do appear to have lost my memory. I was wondering if it would be possible to provide me with a place to stay for the time being?”
“Of course, My Lord! I will run your genetic profile through the Imperial gene database immediately to verify your lineage. Once identified, you can return to your estate,” Ellis assured him warmly.
The gene database? Lu Li knew internally that he wasn’t a creature of this universe at all; there was absolutely no way his genetic data would exist in their records.
However, he remained unfazed. Soldiers face the enemy, water blocks the earth he would adapt as things came. For now, it was best to leave the hospital and follow them to the Association to assess the situation. He couldn’t stay cooped up in a medical ward forever.
“In that case, My Lord, would you mind returning to the Association headquarters with us first? We will notify you the exact moment the sequence results are generated,” Ellis asked politely.
“Very well. Let’s go.” Lu Li stood up and followed Ellis out.
The moment they arrived at the grand headquarters of the Male Protection Association, staff members instantly escorted him to a private drawing room. Just like the hospital, a lavish spread of snacks and beverages was brought out immediately.
Is the standard of living for Males here always this extravagant? Lu Li thought, amused. No matter where I go, there’s an endless supply of pastries waiting. Are they terrified of letting a Male go hungry for even a single second?
Lu Li had no appetite for sweets. He sat quietly in his seat, covertly observing his surroundings.
He hadn’t paid close attention when he first woke up, but this world possessed incredibly advanced technology. The surrounding architectural structures emitted a faint, sleek silver-white luminescence, deeply steeped in a high-tech, cyberpunk aesthetic. It was clear he had landed in a highly evolved civilization.
As he casually surveyed the advanced architecture, his mind was already calculating his next moves. He needed to secure his survival in this unfamiliar world first before searching for a way back to his own timeline.
Amidst his musings, a crisp echo of footsteps approached.
Lu Li lifted his gaze. Stopping directly in front of him was an exceptionally elegant gentleman.
The man possessed long, cascading silver hair that caught the ambient light, refracting a soft, ethereal luminescence. His stark, snow-white pupils gave his entire demeanor an intensely noble, icy, and untouchable aura.
To put it plainly, this individual or rather, this Zerg exuded the quintessential essence of high nobility from every fiber of his being.
“Greetings, My Lord. I am Frodi of the Kellian Clan, and I serve as the Chairman of the Male Protection Association. It is a profound honor to meet you. I understand you have just been rescued from a border world. Please submit to a genetic screening; the Association will ensure you are reunited with your family,” Frodi spoke, his tone smooth and refined.
It appears this Frodi is a high-ranking noble Male in this society, Lu Li analyzed swiftly. If I want to establish a secure foothold here, cultivating a favorable relationship with this insect is a crucial first step.
“Thank you, I appreciate the assistance,” Lu Li replied, intentionally letting a heavy layer of sorrow drop into his voice as he looked down. “However, with my current amnesia, I retain absolutely no recollection of my past or my identity. I can only hope for a favorable outcome.”
“Rest assured, My Lord. Do not distress yourself; you will certainly find your family,” Frodi consoled him gently from the side.
“Let us proceed then, My Lord. If you would please follow me, I shall escort you to the testing chamber.” Seeing their conversation conclude, Ellis stepped forward and guided Lu Li toward the genetic analysis facility.
