- Chapter 2 - Playing the Zither and Blowing the Flute (1): No XX Play, Please!
He had scoured the cafeteria, the comprehensive building, and the teaching building without finding anything out of the ordinary, right up until he stepped into the entrance of the dormitory building.
“Please proceed to Dormitory 308.” The long-absent game panel popped up once again, and he knew he had found the right place.
Lin Chubai had just calmed down from everything that had happened before, and walked toward Room 308 with skepticism, though he did not push the door open right away.
The ferocious sheep and giant wolf from earlier were still vivid in his mind.
Creak. The iron door of 308 was pushed open a fraction by someone. Looking closely, it seemed like there was a single eye peering out to observe the inside.
Suddenly, the iron door was shoved wide open. He retreated a few steps to hide in the corner, and only after seeing that no weird and bizarre things jumped out did he tiptoe his way back over.
Inside was just a very ordinary dorm room, except that Bed Number 4 was occupied by someone very familiar: the boy from No. 6 High School.
The two of them stared at each other across a distance of five meters, both harboring the principle of not wanting to spill their guts to the other, and tacitly chose to remain silent.
He casually picked Bed Number 3, patted the chair, and sat down.
Congratulations to the player for safely arriving at the Novice Village! Reward: Grade-B Skill: Nether Wart. 20 Points
The previously empty tabletop also sprouted a button and a small piece of bread, with “The Last Supper” written on it.
The No. 6 High School boy watched him gently push aside the bread in front of him, staring hesitatingly at the button, before pulling a pen and paper out of his drawer.
Press the button, safe, bread is edible.
Vigorous and powerful handwriting appeared before his eyes, and he followed the pointing finger to look toward the No. 6 High School boy.
He inexplicably felt that the No. 6 High School boy looked very familiar. A fragment of memory flashed across his mind, but it vanished just as quickly.
Hiss! Lin Chubai’s temples suddenly began to throb with a sharp, splitting pain, making him involuntarily reach out to rub them, as if something did not want him to keep thinking about it.
The boy from No. 6 High School seemed to sense this, glancing at him out of the corner of his eye, but saying nothing.
Noticing that the boy from No. 6 High School was staring at him, Lin Chubai’s temples grew even more painfully throbbing, and he even began to experience a slight ringing in his ears.
“Sigh.” Lin Chubai let out a silent sigh in his heart, deciding to stop thinking about the No. 6 High School boy for now. Sure enough, his brain felt much better. He raised his hand and gently placed it on the button, applying a slight pressure with his fingertips to press it down.
He desperately needed something right now to distract his attention elsewhere.
Implantation successful. Loading. Progress 30%. Progress 50%.
Frame after frame of images flickered constantly in his mind, bloating his brain to the point of feeling like it was going to explode. Many forgotten things flashed vaguely by, but they flowed past like water, impossible to catch.
100%
As the progress bar reached 100 percent, his cluttered brain returned to normal, but he found that a little something extra seemed to be resting inside his mind.
Grade-B Nether Wart (Level 1): Control-type skill, can simultaneously release 2 vines. Points required for upgrade: 200 Upgrade effect: Can release three vines, and hardness is enhanced. PS: Refuse bondage play, okay?
After reading through the skill information, he turned his gaze to the store. The items sold inside ranged from something as small as a candy to as large as a villa; everything was there.
What stood out was a gachapon lottery system, which seemed to be used for drawing skill cards, costing 500 points per draw. There was also a system storage space with a total of three slots, which came with its own paper and pen. Unlocking an additional slot required 500 points.
He checked his own points: 20.
Lin Chubai: Ha.
As his consciousness returned to reality, he felt as though a pitch-black eyeball was staring right at him. Glancing to the side, sure enough, it was still the No. 6 High School boy sitting right next to him.
He shot the No. 6 High School boy a “what’s the matter” look. The No. 6 High School boy shook his head and stopped looking at him, staring blankly at the white wall and entering a frozen state once more.
Lin Chubai subconsciously reached into his pocket for a cigarette, but forgot that because of the college entrance exam today, he had not brought any. He could only curl his lips in mild dissatisfaction, pick up the small piece of bread on the table, and begin eating while pondering this human-fabrication game.
Twenty minutes later, the iron door of the dormitory opened once more. A clean-looking boy walked in. Lin Chubai glanced over and discovered to his surprise that the newcomer was none other than his childhood friend, Song Siyun!
As soon as Song Siyun stepped inside, he bolted straight for the bathroom. Accompanied by the sound of flushing water, he slowly emerged from within, sat down on the edge of Bed Number 2, and let out a heavy sigh.
Seeing the button that had suddenly appeared on Song Siyun’s desk, Lin Chubai was just about to pass him the note the No. 6 High School boy had given him, when this reckless fool went ahead and pressed it directly.
Lin Chubai’s hand froze slightly in mid-air, his eyelids twitched once, and he pulled it back.
The exact moment Song Siyun pressed the button, a prompt tone rang out simultaneously in the minds of all three people.
Novice Tutorial: Playing the Zither and Blowing the Flute is about to begin. Countdown: 60 minutes. Players, please get ready!
Novice tutorial, Playing the Zither and Blowing the Flute… What the hell is this!
As the countdown changed from 60 to 30, another note was slowly pushed into Lin Chubai’s field of vision.
“What skill did you draw?” The handwriting this time was different from the previous one. The earlier one could be called pleasing to the eye, but this one looked like it wanted to blind you.
“Nether Wart, shoots vines, control type. What about you?” Lin Chubai, as if not wanting to look at this chicken-scratch handwriting any longer, scribbled his reply and pushed it straight back to Song Siyun’s side.
“I drew Shield Birth, defense type, can place an earth shield within a 1.5-meter range.” Before he could even finish reading it, the note was snatched away again, and he watched as Song Siyun boldly scribbled something else.
“What is that Playing the Zither and Blowing the Flute thing?”
“I don’t know, we’ll see when it happens. Be careful.”
Lin Chubai wrote a note asking him how he had managed to get through the first two trials. Song Siyun indicated that it was purely a matter of good fortune coupled with the help of a noble benefactor that allowed him to survive.
And as it turned out, that was precisely the case. At the very beginning when he was being chased by the sheep, he had been squeezed by the crowd into the stadium. Once inside, he discovered that those two monsters could not destroy the terrain, and that was how he managed to narrowly survive the first level.
Later on, the person right next to him exploded, splattering internal organs all over his face. His brain was frantically commanding him to scream, but right as he was about to cry out, a benefactor pinched his mouth shut from behind.
After that, he and the benefactor searched for the Novice Village together, but since the benefactor was assigned to the 2nd floor, that was where they parted ways.
Countdown: 59, 58, 57.
The prompt panel popped up once again, and the three of them held their breath as they waited for the time to hit zero.
A blinding flash of white light engulfed the three of them in an instant, and after that, they lost consciousness.
Delicate peach blossom eyes slowly opened in the darkness, and the owner of the eyes was tightly bound like a hairy crab, huddled inside a foul-smelling room.
Welcome to Playing the Zither and Blowing the Flute! Task 1: Proceed to He Village. Players, please enjoy yourselves to the fullest!
Lin Chubai tried to move around within this cramped space, but it was obviously impossible; it was probably only about one square meter in size.
Lin Chubai concentrated his energy into the palm of his hand, and sure enough, two slender, flexible vines appeared there. He attempted to use the vines to untie the ropes binding him.
After fumbling around to the left and right for quite a while, the ropes did not loosen at all. Instead, they tightened even further. He had no choice but to shift his gaze back to the door of the utility room.
Clack. The door was pushed open from the outside. The vines that had just emerged were instantly retracted. He saw a brawny man with a thick waist twisting the door handle, looking down at him from aloft before hoisting him up onto his shoulder and heading toward the second floor.
A jolt of shock went through his heart. The vines shot straight toward the brawny man’s neck, but before they could touch him, the man seemed to have anticipated it, carrying him straight into a wall.
“Ugh!” His body, which had not fully recovered to begin with, was nearly squeezed of its internal organs by this impact.
He curled his body up, trying to alleviate the pain brought on by his internal organs. However, with his hands and feet bound from behind, even this simple movement was impossible to accomplish.
Yet his gaze remained as sharp as ever. Taking advantage of the opportunity, he looked around his surroundings to see if there was anything that could help him break free.
Strange.
