- Chapter 6 - Not Close to Him Even if I had heard of the First High School Construction
Even if I had heard that the First High School campus was built so grandly it could double as a tourist attraction, it was still hard for Wen Yu not to feel a sense of shock when he saw it for himself in person.
This was a massive and solemn complex of buildings. The neat rows of high-rise buildings featured clean, smooth lines and varied architectural styles. Every single brick and tile reflected a dazzling radiance under the newly risen morning sun.
A giant tower-shaped building in the center was the most eye-catching. The surrounding structures were distributed in a ring around it, distinct in their layers and orderly in their arrangement.
The two of them were assigned to Class 1, which was the elite class of First High School. They enjoyed the absolute best teaching resources, and judging by past university admission rates, almost everyone in Class 1 could smoothly enter the Alliance University.
Currently, the only remaining empty seats in Class 1 were the two right next to each other in the very last row by the window. They were clearly prepared for the two of them.
Wen Yu took the inner seat first. Fu Chen did not say much, directly taking his seat, burying his face in his desk, and falling fast asleep.
His movements were smooth and fluid; it seemed he was truly exhausted.
The student sitting in front of Wen Yu was a male Beta. After seeing the two of them take their seats, he turned around and greeted Wen Yu with a smile, “Hello, my name is Lin Qiaoyue. Lin as in double wood, Qiao as in bridge, and Yue as in surpass.”
The Beta had refined features and a clean aura, and Wen Yu responded politely, “My name is Wen Yu. Wen as in hearing, and Yu as in surplus.”
Originally, the seat in front of Fu Chen was empty. Before Wen Yu voice had even faded, someone sat down in the spot directly in front of Fu Chen, an Omega girl.
“Hello there, my name is Shuran. Please take care of me from now on!” The Omega smiled sweetly, her eyes bright as she spoke, joining in on their introductions.
Wen Yu nodded and gave a soft “Mn.”
Fu Chen slept through the entire morning. He was woken up by his childhood friend, Ji Chen, who was in Class 3 on the same floor.
“Chen! Wake up, it is time for lunch!” Ji Chen patted Fu Chen shoulder and shouted in his ear.
Fu Chen irritably swatted Ji Chen hand away, and Ji Chen understood that Young Master Fu was throwing a bed-waking temper tantrum again.
Fu Chen woke up from his silence, stretched lazily, and his hand brushed against the textbook on his desk. He picked it up and flipped through it casually. Inside the desk was also the school standard uniform.
It went without saying who had collected and placed it all there for him.
He glanced sideways at Wen Yu, who was currently busy grinding practice problems, and then stood up to head to the cafeteria for lunch with Ji Chen.
After Fu Chen left, the entire classroom was left with only Wen Yu. He rummaged through his school bag and pulled out the sandwich Old Chen had given him in the morning; it had gone a bit cold.
Fu Chen had slept the whole morning, and Wen Yu had not had any opportunity to give it to him. Given Fu Chen personality, if he handed him this cold sandwich, there was no guarantee Fu Chen would not just throw it right back at him.
Then, he would coldly say to him, “Save this pig slop for yourself.”
Wen Yu rehearsed the scenario in his mind and decided it was entirely reasonable. Assuming Fu Chen had already rejected it, he with a clear conscience opened the sandwich packaging, threw away the ham in the middle layer, and ate it bite by bite.
While eating, he worked on practice problems. He thought the sandwich actually tasted pretty good; even cold, it was still delicious.
Wen Yu quickly finished the sandwich, wiped his hands, and rested his head on the desk to sleep for a bit.
When he woke up again, the classroom was packed with people once more. Wen Yu patted his face and checked the answers to the math problems he had finished: out of twenty multiple-choice questions, he got five wrong, which was a quarter of them.
Wen Yu frowned.
This proved that his self-study results were not very good.
Wen Yu was not the type of person blessed with natural talent. The good grades he achieved from childhood until now were entirely due to how hardworking and diligent he was. To put it nicely, his foundation was solid; to put it bluntly, his thinking lacked flexibility.
Wen Yu corrected his wrong questions and recorded them in his mistake notebook.
He knew that there were no shortage of smart people at First High School. He could not just follow the teacher pace in class; he had to stay several chapters ahead of the teacher progress to maximize the number of practice problems he could drill.
Just like how high school students find primary or middle school problems very simple, looking back at problems they once thought difficult made them easy to solve.
Especially for a subject like mathematics, the sea-of-questions strategy might seem clumsy, but for someone like Wen Yu who was not particularly clever and lacked high talent, it was indeed the most effective method.
During the first physiology class of the afternoon, Wen Yu used to spend past physiology classes doing homework. Because he was an inferior Omega, his perception of pheromones was roughly equal to a Beta; pheromones had almost no impact on him, so he felt that AO physiological traits had nothing to do with him. He had already formed a habit: not doing homework during physiology class was simply a crime against nature.
Perhaps Wen Yu had been too engrossed in solving problems, as the teacher eventually noticed him. The physiology teacher spoke up from the podium, “That student in the very last row by the window.”
Wen Yu had no idea the teacher was calling him, and of course, Fu Chen would not be kind enough to remind him. It was not until his deskmate in front, Lin Qiaoyue, whispered a reminder that Wen Yu belatedly stood up.
“You tell me, what should you do if you suddenly encounter an Omega in heat on the street?” The physiology teacher posed a question to the student who had been daydreaming in class.
“Carry that Omega to the school infirmary,” Wen Yu thought for a moment and said.
With a look that said just as I expected, the teacher put on a stern face and told Wen Yu, “This student clearly has not been paying attention in class.”
“You are an Omega yourself. When you encounter an Omega suddenly going into heat, you should stay far away from that Omega to avoid being affected by their pheromones and going into heat as well, and then call for emergency rescue.”
“You still need to listen carefully in class, especially students whose genders are Alpha and Omega. This is intimately related to you and concerns your own bodies. Beta students should understand it too, just in case your future significant other turns out to be an Omega.”
Omegas were extremely precious beings and generally paired up with Alphas, but quite a few Omegas also chose to be with Betas. In fact, there were also Alphas and Betas together, though that was exceptionally rare.
The students in the classroom began to whisper among themselves. Being a group of teenagers still in puberty, the moment they heard these romantic and emotional topics, it was easy for them to tacitly exchange quiet discussions.
Wen Yu stood there feeling somewhat embarrassed, looking at his nose and letting his heart gaze at his heart. The teacher glanced at him, told him to sit down, and instructed him to listen carefully.
Feeling too awkward to continue drilling problems, Wen Yu genuinely began to listen as the teacher explained the physiological knowledge regarding Alphas and Omegas.
Suddenly, the PPT the teacher was projecting began playing slides detailing the physical structures of Alphas and Omegas, including the structure of an Omega reproductive tract. The whispering in the classroom abruptly grew louder, and some people even let out ambiguous chuckles.
There was also information regarding the concentration of pheromones from highest to lowest in bodily fluids: seminal fluid, blood, saliva, sweat, and tears.
The discussions among the classmates grew even louder.
After listening, Wen Yu was a bit dazed. What on earth?
When school let out, Wen Yu kept about two meters behind Fu Chen the entire way. Even Ji Chen noticed and whispered to Fu Chen, “Why is your little deskmate following us the whole time?”
“Who knows,” Fu Chen said coldly, “Not close to him.”
“True, you only just arrived today,” Ji Chen said in understanding, before sighing with emotion, “Still, your deskmate looks really good though. I got a shock when I came to find you for lunch today; I feel like he is even prettier than our junior high school campus belle.”
“When did your aesthetic standards drop this low?” Fu Chen retorted irritably.
Ji Chen was not happy to hear that and defended himself, “Ask any Alpha at random and see how many think your little deskmate is not good-looking.”
“I think he is ugly,” Fu Chen said, glancing back at Wen Yu. Wen Yu was holding a small notebook, memorizing vocabulary, completely unaware that his face was currently being debated by two Alphas, “Ugly to death.”
Ji Chen sighed, “Fine, fine, whatever you say.” Ji Chen did not plan to debate this issue with Fu Chen further, “Ah Feng is already urging us, let us walk faster.”
Today was Song Chengfeng birthday. Fu Chen, Song Chengfeng, and Ji Chen had grown up together since childhood. Song Chengfeng had been placed by his family at Thirteenth High School, and today was his birthday, so he had invited Fu and Ji to attend his birthday party at the Song family five-star hotel.
Thirteenth High School let out earlier than First High School, and Song Chengfeng had already been waiting for them for quite a while.
When they reached the school gate, Fu Chen suddenly stopped, and Wen Yu, not paying attention, bumped right into Fu Chen back.
Wen Yu looked up in confusion.
“Getting addicted to playing a stalker, are we?” Fu Chen looked down at Wen Yu from a towering height.
“I do not know the way back,” Wen Yu looked up at Fu Chen and said, “And the doctor said I have to keep following you, otherwise you will go crazy.”
Ji Chen did not quite understand their conversation, but a moment later he recalled the rumors surrounding Fu Chen from a while back.
Word had it that Fu Chen had marked an Omega at his older brother engagement banquet, and he wondered if it could be this one.
“Do I look like a driver to you?” Fu Chen said, “Go find a driver to pick you up.”
After two seconds of silence, Wen Yu said, “I do not remember what the driver looks like, nor do I remember the license plate number.”
Fu Chenze did not want Fu Chen to draw too much attention, and in this school, only a tiny handful of people knew Fu Chen true identity; here, Fu Chen was just a very ordinary student. Therefore, the car the driver used to drop them off and pick them up was a very common brand, and right now, quite a few of them were parked outside the school gates.
Wen Yu had only ridden in the car a few times, always sitting in the back row, and the driver face was nothing more than a blurred mosaic in his eyes.
He only knew it was the driver; what the driver actually looked like was something Wen Yu could not clearly remember.
Suspecting Wen Yu was just faking it, Fu Chen let out a cold scoff.
“Black Luochuan, 12540, go find it yourself,” Fu Chen said, turning around and walking away immediately.
Wen Yu grabbed the hem of his jacket again. Fu Chen stopped in his tracks and yanked the hem from Wen Yu grasp with force, “Do not touch me casually, and do not touch any of my belongings. It is filthy.”
Wen Yu had long since grown immune to this level of verbal abuse. Back at the Zhou family home, he was cursed at every day as a bastard, cheap slut, jinx, or stinking rat. By now, those words basically went in one ear and out the other.
Wen Yu even felt that Fu Chen covert scolding of him as filthy was already quite mild, especially after he had schemed against him.
“The doctor told me to follow you,” Wen Yu repeated.
Fu Chen sneered, “That is what was said to you. If anything happens to me, the worst that happens is you die to atone for your crime.”
Wen Yu watched as Fu Chen and Ji Chen got into a black sedan. With a roar of the engine, the car sped away into the distance.
Wen Yu recognized this car, which was a Bentley, and the last three digits of the license plate were 888, making it very easy to remember.
Recalling the license plate number Fu Chen had given him, Wen Yu found the Fu family car shortly after. The driver memory was much better; recognizing Wen Yu, he got out of the car and opened the door.
“Where is the young master?” the driver asked.
“Driver uncle, can you follow that Bentley ahead whose last three digits are 888?” Wen Yu said calmly, “Otherwise, I will die.”
