- Imprisoned by Forced Love! The Yandere Disciple Tied My Hands and Told Me to Be Good
- Chapter 16 - Master, When We Watch the Fireworks in a Moment, You Must Be Earnest and Focused
After finishing the barbecue, Yue Qi took Mu Chenyuan to eat various other snacks. Mu Chenyuan ate throughout the entire day, nearly reaching the point of bursting. Fortunately, Yue Qi cast a digestion spell on him; otherwise, he might have become the first person to actually die from overeating.
After this bout of gluttony, the sky grew considerably darker. It was nearing evening, and evening was when the festival truly began.
The number of people on both sides of the street suddenly increased tenfold. Cries of street vendors rose and fell in an endless, noisy rhythm. Vendors either carried poles over their shoulders, pushed small carts, or set up simple stalls, all displaying a dazzling array of goods.
Many interesting lantern riddle venues were set up along the roadside, crowded with people and teeming with extraordinary excitement. In front of every riddle stall hung rows of red lanterns, each with a slip of paper tied beneath it containing strange and peculiar puzzles. Groups of people gathered around, thinking hard—sometimes whispering in discussion, sometimes cheering with joy because they had guessed an answer.
By the riverbank, groups of people held lotus-shaped lanterns. They carefully lit the wicks and gently placed them into the river. Those lanterns looked like blooming lotuses, slowly drifting away with the current. As a breeze brushed past, ripples spread across the water, and the lantern light swayed gracefully in the reflection.
Even the sky was thick with a dense canopy of Kongming lanterns, resembling a galaxy of stars lighting up the entire night sky.
Beneath the trees, couples held hands and closed their eyes, silently making their most beautiful wishes and praying to grow old together. After making their wishes, they carefully tied red cloth strips symbols of love and blessings onto the branches.
These people were truly celebrating the festival. However, as Mu Chenyuan watched, he could only sneer. He had absolutely no interest. He even grumbled to Yue Qi beside him, “A bunch of love-brains.”
Yue Qi’s gaze deepened as he looked out at the lively crowd in the distance. Seeing his expression, Mu Chenyuan couldn’t help but tease, “Surely the dignified Demon Venerable doesn’t like these childish ‘playing house’ things, does he?”
Yue Qi did not answer directly, instead saying, “Only when one’s feelings reach a certain depth do they do such naive things.”
This statement left Mu Chenyuan truly speechless. Fine, if you want to argue, then you’re right.
“There will be a fireworks display over by the bridge in a moment. Will Master watch it with me?”
Just as Mu Chenyuan was about to refuse, Yue Qi blocked his words. “Master has not yet given me my birthday gift. Accompanying me to watch the fireworks will count as your gift to me.”
If Yue Qi hadn’t brought it up, Mu Chenyuan would have forgotten entirely. How annoying, I actually have to give him a gift!
Though he was annoyed internally, Mu Chenyuan couldn’t show it. He could only agree: “Fine, fine, fine… we’ll watch the fireworks.”
It wasn’t like he was a young girl. What was so great about watching these things anyway?
Mu Chenyuan was pulled by Yue Qi toward the Magpie Bridge in the south of the city. The name of the bridge sounded as if it had been specifically chosen for the festival.
Before they even reached the bridge, Mu Chenyuan was nearly squashed into a pancake. It felt like the crowd coming to see the fireworks was as packed as a subway during morning rush hour—a literal tin of sardines. It was a miracle of quality that the bridge didn’t snap under the weight.
Ultimately, because it was impossible to push through, Yue Qi grabbed his hand and used a teleportation technique to bring them directly onto the bridge. Yet, even so, they had to force their way through the crowd just to reach the railing. Once his hands were pressed against the railing, he couldn’t be pushed any further, but even moving his body was a struggle.
Yue Qi did not stand side-by-side with him. Instead, he stood directly behind him, his entire front pressed against Mu Chenyuan’s back. He wrapped one arm around Mu Chenyuan’s waist from behind and used his other hand to press down on the hand Mu Chenyuan was using to hold the railing.
Leaning in, he whispered in a hoarse voice against Mu Chenyuan’s ear:
“Master, when we watch the fireworks in a moment, you must be earnest and focused.”
