Chapter 49: Unable to Resist the Urgent Desire to Possess…
The light outside the blanket was somewhat piercing. His long eyelashes struggled for a moment but failed to open. Qi Xu instinctively wanted to rub his eyes, but both his hands were trapped inside the heavy coat and couldn’t be freed immediately.
Watching the person in his arms moving haphazardly, Chi Hui instinctively raised his hand, hovering it over Qi Xu’s eyes to help block the light.
Only then did Qi Xu feel better, and he slowly opened his eyes.
“…” Xu Changshu stared at the two huddling closely together, so shocked by this overly warm scene that he forgot to close his mouth.
He looked at Qi Xu, then at Chi Hui, then back at Qi Xu, then back at Chi Hui.
His gaze darted back and forth between the two several times.
Chi Hui glanced at Xu Changshu, whose jaw was practically on the floor, withdrew his hand with a delayed realization, and let out a soft, awkward “Tsk” through pursed lips.
Xu Changshu had brought several helpers with him. Not wanting to become a gorilla in a cage for everyone to stare at, Chi Hui pressed down on Qi Xu’s head and unzipped the jacket.
After this commotion, Qi Xu was mostly awake and obediently crawled out of Chi Hui’s embrace.
However, having just woken up and suddenly losing the other person’s body heat and the protection of the coat, Qi Xu couldn’t stop himself from shivering several times as he stood there.
Chi Hui looked down at his phone, using his peripheral vision to scan the person beside him who was hunching his shoulders against the cold.
“You arrived slower than I thought,” he said to Xu Changshu as he put his phone away.
Xu Changshu had broken into a sweat from the frantic search. Hearing this, he wiped his forehead, feeling quite aggrieved: “I came here at full speed the second my meeting ended. Who could have guessed you two were locked in here?”
Chi Hui wasn’t truly blaming him. He kept his head down and said nothing more, but naturally took off his down jacket.
Qi Xu crossed his arms and looked at the few people who had followed Xu Changshu, wondering if the staff member who led him here was among them.
If that person were there, perhaps it would prove it wasn’t intentional. Unfortunately, none of the people present shared a similar build to that man.
Qi Xu pursed his lips, unable to figure it out. He clearly hadn’t offended anyone; why was he being targeted?
Just as he was wondering, his vision suddenly went dark.
A down jacket, still carrying its owner’s warmth, descended from above, enveloping him completely.
“?” Qi Xu pulled the jacket off his head and looked at the man beside him.
Chi Hui was now wearing only thin clothing.
Qi Xu clutched the down jacket and blinked, using the man’s own words from earlier to ask with total sincerity: “Do you not want to live?”
Chi Hui: “…” He was just afraid a certain someone would freeze to death first.
“I’m feeling hot right now, is that a problem?” the man replied crossly, his kindness being met with such a question. He then turned to look at Xu Changshu, who was standing dazed nearby, his eyes full of silent exasperation.
Given Xu Changshu’s understanding of Chi Hui, he knew exactly what the look meant: Look at the ‘great’ assistant you found.
Xu Changshu: “…”
Feeling his scalp tingle under the gaze, he had no choice but to turn his eyes toward the other person, only to find that this one was also staring at him.
Qi Xu held up the down jacket with watery eyes, showing it to Xu Changshu to make a point: Chi Hui is the one refusing to wear it. If he catches a cold, you can’t blame me.
Xu Changshu, stared at by two pairs of eyes: “…”
Truly, two living ancestors.
“Alright, alright, let’s get to the car first and talk about the details there.” Xu Changshu was also afraid someone would get sick, so he hurried them out.
Although they had been through a several-hour ordeal, luckily, no one was seriously harmed.
As they sat in the car on the way back, before Xu Changshu could ask for details, he received a message saying a signal jammer had been found outside the warehouse.
“Call the police,” Chi Hui said, his brow furrowing.
This was clearly a deliberate attempt to mess with Qi Xu—luring him into a secluded warehouse and specifically jamming the signal. If Chi Hui hadn’t gone looking for him, Qi Xu might have been trapped in a space without even air conditioning for the entire night.
Locking an ignored little assistant in a warehouse overnight wouldn’t cause substantial physical harm, but it served as a way to vent spite. This kind of calculated, despicable small move allowed Chi Hui to immediately lock onto a target.
Qi Xu actually had a faint suspicion as well. After all, according to Chi Hui, he really had provoked someone today.
“Lin Yaozhi. Investigate him,” Chi Hui said.
Xu Changshu hadn’t been on set all day, so he didn’t know what happened, but the conflict between Chi Hui and Lin Yaozhi had existed for a long time.
“Okay, I’ll handle it.”
An hour later, they finally returned to the high-end neighborhood where Chi Hui currently lived.
“Little Xu, should I drop you off too?” Xu Changshu looked at the time. It was very late, and it might be inconvenient for Qi Xu to get back alone.
Qi Xu was about to get out of the car but paused. He looked at Chi Hui, then at the kind Xu Changshu, and immediately declined: “No need, thank you. I can get back by myself.”
Xu Changshu thought he was just being polite: “It’s fine. Don’t you live in that area in the East District? It’s quite far. I’m heading that way anyway, so I’ll give you a lift. It’s no trouble.”
“…” If he were dropped off in the East District, he would have to take another car all the way back here. That would be the real trouble.
Qi Xu looked at the lit windows of the high-end complex not far away, blinked his tired eyes, and continued to refuse: “Really, no need…” He just wanted to go home and sleep.
Chi Hui had already stepped out of the car. Watching the two go back and forth, he pursed his lips and finally reached out to pull Qi Xu out of the car himself.
“You guys go ahead,” Chi Hui said.
Seeing Qi Xu’s firm attitude and hearing Chi Hui’s words, Xu Changshu gave up his idea of being helpful.
Qi Xu watched the car drive away and breathed a secret sigh of relief.
Chi Hui watched Qi Xu’s expression of silent celebration, his brow softening. He found the boy’s little tricks somewhat amusing.
“Let’s go.” He was in a good mood and didn’t plan to expose him.
Qi Xu turned to look at him and nodded: “Oh, okay.”
Chi Hui turned and walked ahead.
However, after walking a short distance, he noticed the person behind him hadn’t followed.
He turned back in confusion to see Qi Xu still standing in the same spot, looking like he was seeing someone off.
Qi Xu was indeed seeing Chi Hui off, intending to wait until he entered the complex before going home himself, to avoid being seen.
Seeing Chi Hui look back, he crinkled his eyes and waved at him.
“?” Chi Hui didn’t understand.
He stood there staring at the person who was equally motionless. The two of them stared at each other across a few meters, neither understanding the other’s thoughts.
Chi Hui put his hands on his hips and sighed, helplessly taking the initiative to walk back toward Qi Xu.
Qi Xu looked up at the man who had returned, a look of complete confusion on his face.
Chi Hui stood firmly in front of Qi Xu and frowned: “What are you doing?”
Two more question marks appeared over Qi Xu’s head: “I’m not doing anything?”
He had just been standing there without moving an inch. What did he do wrong now?
He couldn’t help but glance at the down jacket Chi Hui was wearing—he had already returned it after getting in the car. Was there something else missing?
“Do… you want me to walk you home?” After a moment, Qi Xu suddenly had a realization.
But looking at Chi Hui’s expression, the realization clearly wasn’t thorough enough.
“Walk me? …And after that? What do you plan to do?”
Qi Xu scratched his cheek and replied, “Get off work, go home.”
“You’re going home? Then why didn’t you leave in Xu Changshu’s car just now?” Chi Hui was almost driven to laughter by the absurdity.
Qi Xu gripped his phone, his gaze flickering: “I didn’t want to trouble him…”
“I didn’t know you were the type to be afraid of troubling people,” the man responsible for cleaning up the “troublemaker’s” messes said with his arms crossed, his tone chilly.
Qi Xu was rendered speechless: “…”
However, in Chi Hui’s eyes, Qi Xu’s silence took on a different meaning. He stared at Qi Xu’s lowered, long eyelashes and said stiffly, “Don’t play the pity card. If you want to stay over, just say it. Do I have to personally invite you?”
Qi Xu was stunned. It took several seconds for him to react: “Ah? I can stay over?”
Chi Hui narrowed his eyes, looking at his seemingly surprised face, and laughed: “You didn’t leave with Xu Changshu and insisted on staying behind. Wasn’t it because you planned to stay here tonight?”
Qi Xu’s gaze drifted to the side. He thought to himself that he lived here anyway, but his mind worked fast and he immediately accepted the misunderstanding: “Yes, then can I sleep at your place tonight?”
After all, staying over once last time had earned him nearly 30 Simp Points.
Chi Hui raised an eyebrow. The corners of his mouth beneath the mask quirked up involuntarily, though his voice remained feignedly calm: “Then aren’t you going to move?”
Thus, Qi Xu followed Chi Hui happily back to his home.
…
After showering, Qi Xu held the spare quilt and stood at the bathroom door, knocking.
Chi Hui was halfway through taking off his clothes when he was forced to open the door by this “troublemaker.”
“I don’t want to sleep in the study,” the troublemaker said.
Chi Hui ran a hand through his hair. “Sleep wherever you want, okay?”
What did it matter if he shared half the bed? He had been the boy’s “bed” for several hours already anyway.
Satisfied, Qi Xu pursed his lips, clutched his pillow and quilt, and slipped into Chi Hui’s bedroom.
However, when Chi Hui returned to the room after drying his hair, he was somewhat surprised.
Contrary to his expectations, his bed was empty. Instead, there was a small “mountain” on the floor beside the bed.
Qi Xu was buried in the quilt, sleeping soundly.
Chi Hui couldn’t help but half-squat down, reaching out to press down the quilt covering Qi Xu’s face.
The porcelain-white face had turned a faint pink from the warmth, and even the small mole on his cheekbone looked a bit red.
Chi Hui lowered his eyes, unable to stop himself from lightly scratching that pale mole with his fingertip.
After a few strokes, the skin around the mole grew even redder.
The sleeping boy frowned and unconsciously rolled over.
Looking at the person who had turned his back to him, Chi Hui’s lips curled into a shallow smile. Then, as if playing a prank, he reached out again and scratched the back of Qi Xu’s neck twice.
Sure enough, Qi Xu quickly rolled back over, his moist lips pouting in grievance even in sleep.
Chi Hui let out a low laugh. His gaze traced Qi Xu’s face inch by inch, finally landing on those dark-colored lips. His eyes gradually grew deep.
He couldn’t control himself from thinking back to the scene in the warehouse a few hours ago.
Taking Qi Xu’s finger into his mouth had been a momentary impulse without thought. However, when he came to his senses, the first emotion that surfaced wasn’t embarrassment, but fear.
Fear that Qi Xu would hate it.
That thought had occupied his entire mind at that moment.
And after discovering that Qi Xu had no intention of rejecting him, an unignorable surge of secret joy had welled up in his heart.
The way Qi Xu looked at him was so earnest. That focused gaze gave one the illusion of being very important to him. Even the little expressions he made when feeling indignant on Chi Hui’s behalf were vivid.
He was so simple that Chi Hui couldn’t help but feel a surge of tenderness.
So he knew very well: if Qi Xu hadn’t reached out to block him at that moment, he really wouldn’t have been able to control himself from kissing him.
Although he hadn’t fully figured out this feeling yet, and didn’t know Qi Xu’s true attitude toward him, in that instant, he had basely wanted to steal a kiss.
Like a destitute man who had accidentally found a gemstone.
Unable to resist the urgent desire to possess it as his own.
Chi Hui’s thoughts drifted. At some point, his fingertip landed between Qi Xu’s lips, stroking them intermittently.
They were as soft as he had imagined.
Qi Xu was sleeping deeply, his breathing steady and long, unaware of the nearly scorching gaze fixed on his face.
The small bedside lamp cast Chi Hui’s silhouette onto the wall.
After a long time, the shadow slowly raised a hand, pressing the fingertip that still held lingering warmth against his own lips.
He still needed more time…
…
The next morning, Qi Xu was licked awake by something.
With his eyes closed, he pushed the dog away. The “thud” of the dog falling off the bed startled him, and he immediately sat up.
After a long moment, he realized something was wrong.
“How am I on the bed…” Qi Xu muttered, looking at the Golden Retriever lying by the bedside, then at Chi Hui, who was currently getting dressed.
He squinted his eyes and thought for a moment. He remembered clearly that he had made a bed on the floor last night.
Chi Hui was adjusting his sleeves. Hearing this, he glanced over, his lip line pressed somewhat straight: “…You were sleeping on the floor. I was afraid I wouldn’t be able to resist stepping on you when I got up early.”
Qi Xu sat on the bed clutching the quilt, looking at the man blankly: “???”
What kind of strange fetish is this?
Qi Xu couldn’t help but glance at the big dog by the bed.
Did Chi Hui really wake up early every day just to step on something?
Looking at the person who didn’t raise any objections, Chi Hui kept his eyelids lowered: “After finishing work today and tomorrow, you can take your vacation.”
Qi Xu, who had been absent-mindedly picking at the quilt, looked up upon hearing this: “Eh? Why?”
“The day after tomorrow is the Preliminary Eve (Xiao Nian). Don’t you need to spend it with your family?”
Qi Xu was stunned. Recently, he had been so focused on saving Simp Points and was so immersed in his own achievements that he hadn’t paid much attention to the time. Unknowingly, he had been by Chi Hui’s side for nearly a month, and the New Year was only a few days away.
This also meant that the time he could stay by Chi Hui’s side was running out. After all, not long after the New Year, school would start, and he wouldn’t have time to follow Chi Hui around.
Qi Xu pursed his lips, feeling quite reluctant.
Seeing his conflicted look, Chi Hui found it strange: “What is it?”
“Will you be resting too?” Qi Xu asked.
“I probably won’t be able to rest until a few days before the New Year.” Chi Hui’s schedule was still very full.
“I can stay with you.”
It was the first time Chi Hui had seen an employee who didn’t want a vacation. He couldn’t help but laugh: “I’m not the kind of cold-hearted boss who refuses to give leave during the New Year.”
“But if you’re alone, what about work? It’ll be inconvenient, right?”
“Xu Changshu is still here. You don’t need to worry. If you really want to work, there will be plenty to keep you busy after the New Year.” Chi Hui didn’t think much of it.
When he was hired, Xu Changshu had said it was a short-term part-time job. If Chi Hui felt it was a good fit, they would consider turning him into a formal employee.
Currently, there was no problem on Chi Hui’s end.
But there was a big problem on Qi Xu’s end—he still had school to attend.
Qi Xu blinked and remained silent for a while. He finally decided to inform him in advance, as time would be needed to find a replacement.
“But… school starts for me after the New Year.”
Chi Hui’s movement of putting on his coat froze. “…”
“What?” He suspected he had heard wrong.
Qi Xu scratched his cheek sheepishly: “I think I forgot to tell you guys… I’m still a student…”
