Chapter 48: “Qi Xu, You Are Truly Annoying”
Although Chi Hui’s mouth always spat out cold and choking words, his actual lips were unexpectedly warm and soft.
The fingertip was shallowly taken into his mouth, the pad of the finger pressing against dry, soft lips. Qi Xu stared at Chi Hui’s lowered eyelashes and pursed his own lips.
A moist tip of a tongue swept over the finger pad, swirling away the liquid chocolate.
It was just a light touch before stopping, as if testing the waters, or perhaps waiting for Qi Xu’s reaction.
Chi Hui’s breathing became very slow, as if he were afraid of disturbing something. That slow, warm breath brushed over the back of Qi Xu’s finger, again and again.
It was very itchy.
Qi Xu couldn’t control his finger from curling slightly.
The other man’s actions were completely unexpected, but the intimacy of the contact made it impossible for Qi Xu to refuse.
Chi Hui kept his eyes down, concealing his emotions. One couldn’t guess his current thoughts just by looking at his facial expression.
He bit Qi Xu’s fingertip expressionlessly, acting as if he didn’t care about his transgressive behavior. Only the slight tremor of his eyelashes betrayed that his subconscious wasn’t as indifferent as he appeared.
Qi Xu tilted his head back, staring for a good while before a sudden guess popped into his mind. He asked softly, “Are you drunk?”
From just that little bit of alcohol?
Otherwise, Qi Xu really couldn’t understand why he would suddenly lick his hand.
In response, Chi Hui’s tongue slowly licked over his finger again.
The rough, moist tongue brushed past the fingertip, leaving behind a small patch of dampness—an unspoken affirmation of Qi Xu’s guess.
Qi Xu pursed his lips. The itchy sensation made him instinctively try to pull his hand away.
But Chi Hui seemed unwilling. His brow furrowed instantly, and he bit down on the fingertip with his teeth, preventing Qi Xu’s retreat.
It didn’t hurt, but he couldn’t pull away.
Qi Xu blinked, tilting his head to look at Chi Hui a few more times. “Really? You’re really drunk?” As he spoke, he instinctively leaned closer, wanting to get a clearer answer from the other’s face.
The sudden close proximity caused their breaths to intertwine.
Chi Hui’s breath hitched. The arm loosely draped around Qi Xu’s waist instinctively tightened, pulling them into a closer fit.
The person in his arms showed no discomfort or aversion to this; in fact, he instinctively hugged back.
Chi Hui’s eyelashes trembled twice more. He controlled his jaw, lightly nipping at Qi Xu’s index finger.
“It’s so itchy,” Qi Xu curled his finger. “…Like a puppy.”
Chi Hui’s persistent licking and biting was truly like the Golden Retriever he raised.
However, this sentence clearly caused dissatisfaction. Chi Hui used a bit more force with his teeth, leaving a neat row of tooth marks on Qi Xu’s finger pad.
The person being bitten let out a soft huff.
Qi Xu found the petty revenge inexplicably cute and couldn’t help but let his eyes crinkle into a smile.
The person biting his finger insisted on staying silent. Qi Xu became persistent: “Chi Hui, are you drunk?”
Pressed against Chi Hui’s chest, he could clearly feel the other’s powerful heartbeat.
It seemed a bit fast?
Was it the effect of the alcohol?
Qi Xu found Chi Hui’s reaction novel and couldn’t help but feel a bit worried.
Chi Hui kept his head down, his gaze falling on those moist lips. He unconsciously swallowed.
He knew very well that his alcohol tolerance wasn’t poor; it was absolutely impossible for a single liqueur chocolate to knock him down.
Yet at this moment, he doubted himself. He felt as if he truly were a bit drunk.
Otherwise, why was his body so hot, his mouth so dry, and his head so heavy and floating that he couldn’t think?
And why was his heart racing so fast?
Even the world before his eyes seemed to have shrunk a hundredfold in an instant, and all his senses were involuntarily focused on this small corner in his arms.
Soft, warm, fragrant, obedient, and very beautiful…
Seeing that Chi Hui’s gaze was starting to turn hazy, Qi Xu realized there was a problem.
“Should I not have fed you that chocolate?” He set aside his playful mood, his tone becoming worried.
He hadn’t made the man sick, had he?
Chi Hui stared at the opening and closing mouth in front of him. His breathing slowed again, and he unconsciously leaned down, his jaw slowly relaxing.
Sensing the pressure on his fingertip lighten, Qi Xu tried to pull his hand away again. This time, it was easily withdrawn.
Qi Xu didn’t have time to worry about his saliva-covered finger. Staring at the face getting closer and closer, he couldn’t help but gulp.
Because his previous predictions had failed, Qi Xu wasn’t sure this time either.
An absurd guess rose in his mind, but he was afraid the other man would do what he had done the previous two times—give him a sudden flick to the forehead.
Chi Hui lowered his head. His hand, which had been grasping Qi Xu’s wrist, gradually let go and reached toward the side of Qi Xu’s face.
Qi Xu had been watching the other’s movements. Seeing the hand rise, the thought “Sure enough” popped into his head.
Chi Hui didn’t stop leaning in. Seeing the hand about to touch him, Qi Xu quickly reached up and covered his forehead.
What the reaching arm blocked was Chi Hui’s approaching face.
The hand the other man reached out with wasn’t aimed at his forehead; it brushed past his ear and cradled the back of his neck.
Qi Xu stared at the face less than a palm’s width away. It took him a beat to realize that if he hadn’t reached out to block, that absurd guess might have actually come true.
Chi Hui watched Qi Xu intently, not missing the emotions in his eyes—from confusion to realization, then to blankness, and finally ending in shock.
The two stared at each other for a long time. Finally, it was Chi Hui who looked away first.
He held the back of Qi Xu’s slender neck and pressed him into his chest.
Chi Hui leaned against Qi Xu’s shoulder and suddenly let out a deep breath, tinged with a sigh of helplessness.
Before Qi Xu could process the stare they just shared, he heard the man by his shoulder finally speak the first words since eating the chocolate.
“You are so annoying.”
“?” Qi Xu, being scolded for no reason, was stunned.
“What’s wrong? Was the chocolate not good?” He tried his best to think of a reason for the dissatisfaction.
The lingering atmosphere was broken. Chi Hui sensed that Qi Xu also seemed to intend not to dwell on the strange vibe from a moment ago.
His eyelashes slowly lowered, hiding the boiling emotions in his eyes. When he spoke again, Chi Hui had returned to his usual tone.
“You told Lin Yaozhi he couldn’t touch alcohol during his recovery period, so why didn’t you tell me to abstain?”
Qi Xu didn’t expect him to be worried about this. He immediately grabbed the other man’s clothes to explain: “I asked the doctor. He said as long as you aren’t currently taking medication, having one occasionally is fine. The alcohol content in this liqueur chocolate is very low.”
The moment he got the chocolate, he had the idea of giving it to Chi Hui because he felt Chi Hui didn’t look well today and seemed very tired.
So he had immediately asked his private doctor and received the answer that a moderate amount was okay.
Chi Hui instinctively tightened his arms: “Doctor? Where did you ask one?”
“…” Qi Xu pursed his lips, afraid of exposing himself. “Online, a Baidu doctor…”
Chi Hui wasn’t surprised by this answer and let out a short, huffing laugh.
“Only a fool like you would use Baidu to treat an illness.”
Qi Xu thought the other man didn’t believe the medical advice, so he emphasized: “Really, I didn’t just find anyone. The doctor is quite amazing, and I’ve researched the brand of chocolate—the alcohol content isn’t high, and the proof is low.”
Chi Hui didn’t expect him to have researched so much beforehand, but he quickly realized the key point.
He pulled the boy back, staring at Qi Xu’s face and raising an eyebrow: “You knew beforehand that the alcohol content wasn’t high, so why did you tell Lin Yaozhi he couldn’t eat it?”
Qi Xu was stunned by the question.
Indeed, he claimed it was a kind reminder, but in truth, even if Lin Yaozhi had eaten it, nothing would have happened. Qi Xu had instinctively looked for an excuse simply because he didn’t want to give it to him.
However, he hadn’t even realized this instinctive rejection himself.
“Do you hate him?” Chi Hui stared at the silent boy.
He thought a person like Qi Xu, who only knew how to be happy, wouldn’t truly hate anyone. That was why Qi Xu hadn’t refused when Lin Yaozhi reached out to ask.
“…Is it because of me?” he asked again.
Qi Xu’s eyelashes blinked. He looked up into Chi Hui’s eyes, paused for a few seconds, and answered: “Mhm. I don’t like that person.”
“Because he is not good to you.”
I don’t like Lin Yaozhi—not because of his character or gossiping, not because of his poor professional skills, and not because of his average looks—it’s simply because he is not good to me. Chi Hui thought back to what Xu Changshu said at the time: This kid is very protective of you.
A certain place in his heart sank quietly once more.
Chi Hui’s gaze fell back onto Qi Xu’s face. Staring at those beautiful eyes, his gaze flickered, and he couldn’t help but lean down again.
However, the silence of the person in front of him made Qi Xu mistake the matter for being settled. His spirit relaxed, and he spaced out slightly, failing to notice the silent approach.
He turned his head tiredly and let out a yawn, tears springing to his eyes.
Qi Xu leaned his head against Chi Hui’s shoulder. While harvesting “Simp Values,” he said tiredly, “What should we do? We can’t get out… I’m so sleepy.”
Chi Hui, whose action was interrupted again: “…”
Seeing that the two of them wouldn’t be getting out anytime soon, Chi Hui found a wooden crate and pulled Qi Xu down to sit with him.
Qi Xu sat leaning against Chi Hui’s chest. Watching the man zip up the down jacket, he couldn’t help but remark, “Good thing your coat is big enough.”
Chi Hui pursed his lips and said nothing.
After a while, Qi Xu, feeling uncomfortable sitting, squeezed further into the embrace behind him. In the process, he accidentally brushed against a certain place.
And the culprit was completely unaware.
Chi Hui gritted his teeth: “…”
“Qi Xu, you are truly annoying.”
The “truly annoying” Qi Xu blinked, feeling a bit wronged. What did he do now?
But he was quick to admit fault.
Qi Xu leaned against the chest of the man who was annoyed by him: “Then, I’m sorry?”
Hearing this insincere apology, Chi Hui knew this person had no idea what he had done.
So, staring at the top of Qi Xu’s head and unable to stay angry, he reached out and zipped the down jacket all the way to the top in one go.
Forced into a “blackout,” Qi Xu was trapped inside the jacket and moved restlessly. “Mm, what’s wrong?”
He didn’t know how he had provoked the other man again.
Chi Hui was driven to a fever pitch by the boy’s twisting and turning. Unable to bear it, he pressed down on the restless person.
“Weren’t you sleepy? Go to sleep.”
An unwilling voice came from inside the jacket: “It’s too stuffy. I can’t sleep.”
Chi Hui rolled his eyes. Having no choice, he unzipped it a little for him.
Qi Xu poked his face out, took a breath, and thanked him with a beaming smile.
To make the warehouse noticeable to others, they had turned on the only light. Chi Hui thought Qi Xu would be too disturbed by the light to sleep.
Yet within a few minutes, the person who had been restless just now fell completely quiet.
Chi Hui looked down and saw that the boy had already closed his eyes.
“…”
And he said he has trouble sleeping in new beds… his speed of falling asleep is like someone pulled his internet plug.
Once asleep, the person quickly began to bury his head habitually. One moment he said it was too stuffy to sleep, the next he had buried his whole self back into the clothes, leaving only a few tufts of hair to tickle Chi Hui’s neck.
Chi Hui let out a heavy sigh and checked his phone. There was still no signal. Helpless, he could only lean against the wall and close his eyes as well.
…
He woke up again to the sound of the iron door.
Chi Hui frowned and slowly opened his eyes to see Xu Changshu finally arriving late with people.
“My ancestor! You scared me to death. I was about to call the police.” Xu Changshu breathed a huge sigh of relief when he saw Chi Hui inside the room.
He had been busy all day. Originally, he had told the driver, Xiao Li, to take the two home after the shoot. Who knew that when he finished his meeting after 8:00 PM, he would see over a dozen calls from Xiao Li with messages saying he hadn’t picked up Chi Hui.
So he rushed halfway across the city after work to find them. To make matters worse, neither Chi Hui’s nor Qi Xu’s phones would connect.
Finally, he heard from a staff member that Chi Hui had come to this warehouse to find someone, so he followed the lead here.
“Eh? Why are you alone? Isn’t Xiao Xu with you?” Xu Changshu found it strange not seeing the other person.
He walked a few steps closer in confusion, then saw Chi Hui’s oversized down jacket move twice.
Xu Changshu didn’t react, his footsteps pausing as he stood in place. “?”
Then, before Chi Hui could explain, a round head poked out from inside the down jacket.
Qi Xu leaned against Chi Hui’s chest, eyes bleary with sleep. “Can we go home now?”
