I'm a Professional at Being a Scumbag [Quick Wear] - Chapter 13
Chu Qiao hung up the phone, her eyes gleaming with a cold light, like stars hidden in a thin mist.
Le Yi entered with medicine and a cup of hot water. “Did you just say something to me?”
Chu Qiao calmly tucked her phone under her pillow and turned to face her; the icy glint in her eyes completely vanished. Her upturned eyes softened into harmless, sincere curves. Her phoenix eyes, inwardly hooked and outwardly curved, usually created a sense of distance, explaining why her striking features carried an aloof aura. When expressionless, she resembled a deity gazing down at mortals, indifferent and detached.
But in front of Le Yi, she concealed this aloofness, becoming clingy like a kitten eager to rub against its owner. She smiled sweetly. “I might have mentioned… that Sister wanted strawberries.”
Le Yi placed the hot water on the bedside table, patted her head, and said, “No, your stomach is upset. You can’t just eat whatever you want. Take your medicine and rest for a while. Once you’re feeling better, I’ll let you have some.”
Chu Qiao obediently nodded, her smile radiant. “Okay.”
Le Yi cared for her as always, popping the pill into her mouth, cradling the back of her head to help her drink, and finally asking if the water was too hot.
Chu Qiao swallowed hard and shook her head, saying it wasn’t too hot.
Le Yi naturally reached out to massage her stomach. But when her hand made contact, both froze.
When Chu Qiao was first brought home, her gloomy mood and homesickness often caused her stomach to bloat with gas. Le Yi would massage her abdomen to help relieve the discomfort.
Of course, at the time, Chu Qiao was wary of Le Yi and refused to let her touch her. Le Yi had to hold her down and massage her by force each time.
After the little girl started boarding school, these massages became rare. Yet now, after all these years, the habit resurfaced.
Just as Le Yi was about to withdraw her hand, Chu Qiao pressed it down.
“Sister, keep rubbing…”
Resigned, Le Yi lifted the quilt and climbed onto the bed. Chu Qiao tilted her head against Le Yi’s shoulder, basking in the soothing touch.
After a while, Le Yi’s hand warmed to Chu Qiao’s body temperature. Chu Qiao’s breathing evened out, and she drifted into a light doze.
Le Yi slowly withdrew her hand and carefully settled Chu Qiao’s head on the pillow.
Chu Qiao gripped her arm, nuzzling her nose against her.
“Sister, are you leaving?”
If Chu Qiao had stubbornly tried to stop her from visiting Zhu Qiong, Le Yi might have resisted. But this frail, pleading voice, the soft, kitten-like grip of her small hand… it softened Le Yi’s heart.
“I won’t go. I’ll stay with you. Go back to sleep.”
Chu Qiao snuggled even closer, her arms wrapping around Le Yi’s waist, her delicate features soft with a smile.
“Sister, I love you so much!”
Le Yi paused, then replied with a teasing tone, “Just like when you were little, talking nonsense when you’re sick.”
During this period, Chu Qiao was highly irritable. Whenever Le Yi held her and rubbed her stomach, she would snap at her, completely unlike her current gentle demeanor.
Disappointment welled in Chu Qiao’s heart, but she maintained her smile.
“Really?”
The two casually brushed the matter aside, avoiding further entanglement.
Chu Qiao knew her sister was avoiding her feelings, and pressing the issue would only backfire. She played along, steering clear of the topic, though her heart still ached. Her arms tightened around Le Yi’s waist, as if trying to meld their bodies together.
Le Yi, struggling to breathe under the tight embrace, softly called her name. Chu Qiao loosened her grip and buried her face in the crook of Le Yi’s neck, her warm breath tickling her skin.
The medication contained sedatives, and as its effects kicked in, Chu Qiao grew drowsy and soon fell asleep.
Le Yi gazed down at the woman in her arms, her eyes tracing every feature. She sighed again, marveling at the perfection.
This face could have been carved by a master sculptor, so exquisitely balanced and flawless was its beauty. Both her figure and features far surpassed Le Yi’s expectations.
Every time Chu Qiao returned from school, Le Yi was amazed by how much more beautiful she had become.
The only regret was that her personality had deviated somewhat from what Le Yi had imagined.
Le Yi had assumed that, given Chu Qiao’s “strong female lead” archetype, she would be a domineering, take-no-prisoners type. Instead, she found her to be unexpectedly soft and clingy, constantly throwing herself into Le Yi’s arms and sobbing over every little thing—a complete crybaby.
Could someone like this still follow the prescribed plot and reclaim everything rightfully hers, ultimately reaching the pinnacle of power?
Le Yi couldn’t help but feel worried.
Well, she’s my own child after all. I’ll just have to help her a little more.
Recently, the Chu family had been embroiled in scandal. Li Xiaomei and her lover had clashed over corporate control during a board meeting, leading to a public brawl over the company seal—a humiliating spectacle that became front-page news.
Despite her Ph.D. and pretense of being a sophisticated intellectual, Li Xiaomei’s years of managing the Chu family had seen the company’s performance steadily decline. Her nepotism, constantly stuffing relatives into key positions to undermine the Chu family’s influence, had transformed the once-mighty clan into a shadow of its former self.
The Chu family had long since fallen from the ranks of the world’s ten great families, replaced by a mysterious organization whose members’ identities and nationalities remained unknown.
After the seal incident, the Chu family became a laughingstock. Their already tarnished reputation plummeted further, sending their stock prices into turmoil.
Le Yi thought, Perhaps this is the breakthrough I’ve been waiting for.
Warning!
A red light flashed in Le Yi’s mind, accompanied by a system alert that sounded quite realistic.
Host, do not interfere excessively in the female lead’s affairs. You only need to play the role of the scum villain.
Though deeply dissatisfied with the System’s directive, Le Yi had no choice but to comply. The System held absolute control over her; otherwise, she wouldn’t have remained a minor actress for so many years, so easily falling into Li Xianyun’s trap.
Well, you’ll have to rely on yourself, little wolf pup.
The nickname popped into her head, and Le Yi curled her lips into a smile. Actually, Chu Qiao is more like a cat.
Little kitten.
Once Chu Qiao was fully asleep, Le Yi got up to wash the strawberries for her.
Both of them loved strawberries, so they always stocked up during the season and kept them in the fridge.
As she was cutting the strawberries, her phone on the counter beeped. Le Yi wiped her hands and picked it up. The trending topics were exploding.
Terms like “Li Xianyun paparazzo scandal,” “date rape,” and “unspoken rules” dominated the headlines, with three of the top ten trending topics related to him.
What’s going on? Did Li Xianyun’s backers suddenly fall out of favor?
Le Yi scrolled through the posts for a few seconds, clicking on each one. They were mostly revelations from big-name influencers with millions of followers, complete with photos and videos. Some were even censored, but the evidence was undeniable.
Li Xianyun had already disabled comments on his Weibo account, likely out of fear.
This scandal provided the entertainment industry, which had been relatively quiet lately, with a thrilling new topic of conversation. Weibo lit up instantly.
Li Xianyun’s name shot to the top of the trending topics, but clicking on it revealed a system error, the Weibo servers had crashed.
The last time such a spectacle occurred was when a top celebrity announced their romance. Li Xianyun, a third-rate actor, certainly didn’t deserve this level of attention, but it would likely be his only moment in the spotlight.
From now on, he’d be erased from the entertainment industry, and he might even rot in prison, given the sheer number of misdeeds he’d committed.
Soon, female celebrities began coming forward to accuse Li Xianyun of coercion. He had forced them into criminal activities, and the situation spiraled out of control as more and more people leveled accusations against him. Though these accusers were mostly B-list or lower, their collective testimony effectively destroyed his reputation.
As Le Yi scrolled through the list of names compiled by fans, she saw Xiao Qing’s name. She froze, a wave of disgust washing over her.
No wonder the private room was empty. She had been aiding the villain all along.
As Le Yi stood lost in thought, Chu Qiao’s voice came from behind her.
“Sister, why are you spacing out here?”
Le Yi startled, smiled, and resumed cutting the strawberries. Chu Qiao picked up her phone, glanced at it, then wrapped her arms around her from behind.
“Sister, the bad guy’s been punished.”
Le Yi felt a complex mix of emotions, murmuring softly in acknowledgment. She casually fed Chu Qiao a strawberry and muttered, “Li Xianyun has powerful backers. Who would dare expose these things?”
Chu Qiao chewed on the strawberry, secretly pleased with herself. Who else could it be but me?
“Could it be Zhu Qiong?”
Chu Qiao’s expression froze, her mood instantly souring.
Le Yi thought about it and dismissed the idea. Zhu Qiong didn’t have that kind of influence.
She turned to see Chu Qiao glaring at her indignantly.
“What’s wrong?”
“Why do you always think of Zhu Qiong? You’re always mentioning her name.”
Just as she finished speaking, Le Yi’s phone rang, displaying “Zhu Qiong” on the screen.
