If I Throw Myself into His Sea - Episode 1.25
In his office in the abyssal palace, Pereian Richard opened and closed his eyes. Since visiting the Coral Palace, he had doubled his workload in response to the surging irritation and lamentation. He was already obsessed with work, and the fact that he had doubled his workload meant that fatigue was inevitable.
“We have discovered the secret of the Coral Palace.”
What roused him from his brief slumber was the presence of his trusted aides, who had come to report their findings. They had been investigating Princess Epin since she entered the palace, but in Deltia, where even going to the land was a struggle, there were limits to what they could find out about Epin. Investigating a member of the royal family was even more so.
But as always, there is an end. It was delayed because there was less information than expected, but now he knew the truth hidden by the princess of the Coral Palace.
“Haa…”
He had always thought about it. A body that was unusually shrunken for a noble princess. Arms so thin that the bones could be felt through the skin with a simple grab, even though she was supposedly taking care of her nutrition and body. And the attitude that she didn’t seem to care no matter how rude he was. He had always wondered if she didn’t feel shame, or if she was just tolerating it.
“Princess Epin is still on land.”
The princess, who should have come down to the underwater kingdom through marriage, is still living in Epin’s royal castle. Pereian smiled bitterly at the unexpected truth. Like the land before a storm, only silence lingered in his space.
Epin’s information could only be obtained through several friendly nations, so the detailed circumstances were unknown, but in any case, the princess to whom he had sent a marriage proposal was in Epin.
The princess’s photograph, presented by his confidant as evidence, proved it all.
Golden hair with a more brilliant light than the queen in the Coral Palace, and a dignified demeanor that could be glimpsed even in the photograph. Anyone could tell that she was a princess of Epin.
Pereian held the photograph in his hand and thought,
“Then who is the princess who came to the underwater kingdom?”
It wasn’t that he hadn’t prepared for Epin to send an outsider. He himself had cast a spell to allow her to breathe in the underwater kingdom and had directly confirmed that she had the blood of the Epin royal family. He had even received a confirmation with the Epin royal family’s crest on it.
“Clearly, I confirmed everything.”
Only the leaders of Epin knew about the existence of the illegitimate daughter, whose very existence was illegal and shameful, and she was already a non-existent person on land.
Deltia imported information about Epin from a country across the continent. It was a foreign land even farther from Epin than the underwater kingdom, so it was somewhat difficult for these details to be caught in the information network.
Therefore, Pereian Richard was now simply filled with questions, without any idea as to the identity of the woman who had arrived in the underwater kingdom as his queen.
Irene Iphraim. If you’re not a princess, then who are you, coming down to my sea with the Epin royal family’s name? What on earth are you aiming for, impersonating a princess in my sea?
Of course, he could guess that Irene Iphraim wasn’t the only one who had orchestrated all of this.
It was impossible to present a paper with the Epin crest on it without the king’s order. Moreover, Epin, which valued face, would never tolerate the impersonation of a princess.
‘It must be Epin’s doing, definitely.’
The photo he was holding was crumpled pathetically. His blazing pupils looked as if they would soon set this sea ablaze.
Pereian Richard rose from his seat and prepared to head to the Coral Palace once more. He had hoped never to visit it in his life, but, coincidentally, the woman always summoned him in this way.
What could the woman be doing now? Could she be spending her days with Head Maid Atina, completely unaware that her hidden identity had been exposed?
He tried to imagine the scene, but for some reason, he couldn’t picture the woman’s smiling face in his mind. Whether she was crying, or chillingly calm, her expression was always one of the two.
Realizing it was all useless, he ran a hand through his hair and organized his thoughts. Before he knew it, his steps had led him to the armory. From the sword only the monarch could use, to the magic-infused bow, and even the mace.
Leaving all of that behind, he reached for a sword placed on the floor.
‘Unless she’s a princess, her life is insignificant.’
Intending to immediately cut off the breath of any spy sent from Epin, he left the room with the sword in hand. Without a moment’s hesitation, he held a cheap sword that could be found anywhere in the marketplace.
Its plain appearance, without gold leaf or engravings, reminded Pereian of the woman in the Coral Palace, trembling in fear as her identity was exposed. Reaching the Coral Palace, he ruthlessly trampled through the garden.
No one stopped the monarch heading towards the queen with a sword in hand. Or rather, it would be more accurate to say that they didn’t notice him. He had received reports that the number of employees in the Coral Palace had decreased, but he didn’t expect it to be this deserted.
As his footsteps echoed through the quiet palace, an eerie atmosphere was created.
In that gloomy atmosphere, Pereian thought of the owner of the Coral Palace. This atmosphere did not suit the queen, who had always greeted him with a clear face. In his mind, the woman had always been surrounded by people and loved.
Having never received hatred, only pure love, she showed that kind of face even to her husband who treated her coldly.
I could maintain this feeling because I was convinced she was the noble princess of Epin. But not anymore.
Now that he knew the truth about the princess, she wouldn’t be able to pretend to be a princess any longer. Kicking the floor nervously, Pereian bit his lip.
‘I must have looked ridiculous, treating her like a princess.’
The question remained. He had clearly confirmed it with breath magic, but what had she done before that to make the verification result show that she was of the Epin royal bloodline?
With fewer hands, only Irene Iphraim was quietly sleeping in the princess’s bedroom. Even the head maid, who had been stationed next to her, was nowhere to be seen.
“Irene Iphraim.”
He called out her name with anger, and the woman, who seemed to have just woken up, looked up at him with drowsy eyes. Her violet eyes trembled as she met his cold red eyes. It seemed she had finally realized that this was not a dream.
“Pereian, what brings you here…?” She trailed off.
The moment she saw Pereian’s angry face, she immediately sensed it. He’s come to get angry at me again, she thought, her expression crumbling. She couldn’t help but sense it.
Pereian Richard had never visited her because he missed her. His visits were always followed by conflict.
Irene lowered her head for a moment, then raised it with a detached look.
Pereian, it must be the sin of the mainland that interfered with your love.
‘No matter what you say, I won’t blame you.’
With determined eyes, she stared at the man in front of her. It was to endure Pereian’s harsh words that would follow. Her vision was still narrow, as she had not been awake for long. Just as he seemed about to move his lips. Pereian’s sword pointed at Irene’s neck without hesitation. It was not a simple threat, but a sword truly aimed to harm her.
“Irene Iphraim, you are.”
Silence filled the room. A suppressed groan, belonging to someone unknown, was heard.
Pereian, who had brought the tip of his sword close to Irene’s neck, frowned.
“You were a fake from the start.”
His eyes wavered. It was a look of confusion tenfold greater than when he had aimed the sword.
Irene sighed briefly.
Ah, this man had figured it all out. It was a face that revealed everything had been exposed. The man’s words continued.
“How much did the Epin royal family pay you to get hired?”
This was an unexpected remark.
Irene tightly shut her eyes, thinking he had discovered she wasn’t the legitimate daughter when he said she was a fake from the start, but incomprehensible words poured from his mouth.
“Were you told to obtain information about Deltia and send it?”
“……”
“Or perhaps, to seduce the monarch with your beauty and then kill him?”
A chilling voice reached Irene’s ear. Irene, unable to grasp the situation, blankly stared at him. “But it’s become unfortunate. That so-called monarch is blinded by love and would never embrace a woman like you.”
Irene’s mouth gaped. She seemed to be wandering, unsure of what to say first.
“Besides, now even that false identity of yours has been exposed.”
“W-wait a minute. I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
As if even that answer was insincere, he coldly sneered.
