I Will Fall Madly In Love With - Chapter 6
After enduring countless more examinations and treatments, my physical condition improved significantly. Every batch of test results showed encouraging changes, signaling that I was well on my way to a full recovery.
It was a bright, sunny morning when my attending physician smiled and informed me that my body had healed enough for me to return home to recuperate, and that I could officially handle discharge procedures the very next day.
Hearing this news, an inexpressible wave of joy surged in my chest.
I gripped the doctor’s hand tightly, pouring out my heartfelt gratitude. Afterward, I wasted no time contacting Mimi to share the wonderful news.
Shifting my gaze to the balcony, I spotted the pot of jasmine Mimi had given me. Its snow-white petals were unfurling slightly, filling the entire hospital room with a fresh, elegant fragrance.
Looking at the jasmine before me, I fell into quiet contemplation. The jasmine was blooming would I, Yan Moyi, also find my own season of blossoming just like this flower?
Bright and early the next morning, Mimi pulled her car up to wait downstairs at the hospital. When we finally packed up our things and stepped through the heavy hospital doors, Mimi hurried forward with radiant enthusiasm.
Her smile was as warm as the morning sun, filling me with immense comfort and reassurance.
She walked swiftly to our side, opened the car door for us, and practically paved a cozy path leading straight home.
Climbing into the vehicle, we pulled away slowly from the hospital. Along the way, sunlight filtered through the car windows, bathing us in warmth.
Mimi’s smile bloomed as brightly as spring flowers; she chatted cheerfully with us while driving, every word brimming with a passionate love for life.
“You know what? I learned a new recipe recently, and it tastes amazing!” Mimi chirped excitedly, sparks of pride dancing in her eyes. She proceeded to describe the cooking process and unique flavor of the dish in vivid detail, making anyone’s mouth water.
I listened intently, chiming in occasionally to share my own thoughts and experiences.
Our conversation drifted seamlessly from food to travel, movies, and even funny jokes. Laughter rippled through the car as a joyful, lively atmosphere filled the cabin.
Before I knew it, the car had rolled past street after street, cutting through the bustling downtown district. Outside the window, towering commercial skyscrapers, serene residential neighborhoods, and hurrying pedestrians flashed past.
My thoughts inevitably plunged back into that familiar darkness. I stood within the pitch-black abyss, surrounded by absolute nothingness without a single ray of light.
I wanted to scream at the top of my lungs, but my throat felt as though it were blocked by something, refusing to produce a sound. Trapped in the dark, I groped around forward in lonely, helpless despair, unable to find an exit or catch a glimpse of the end.
Right at that moment, a faint call drifted from the distance: “Momo, Momo…”
The voice felt so familiar that it sent a jolt straight to my heart. I forced myself to concentrate, willing my eyes to adjust to the surrounding environment.
Gradually, I realized that I had slipped out of the dreamscape and returned to the real world. It turned out Mom was calling my name softly, telling me we had arrived home.
Waking slowly from that brief trance, I drew a deep, long breath of fresh, familiar air.
With Mom and Mimi supporting me with utmost care, I labored up the front steps.
Though my physical condition had improved vastly compared to before after a period of rest, simply ascending these few low steps unleashed an indescribable, sharp ache across my frame.
Enduring the pain, I tried to force myself forward, but my feet felt as heavy and powerless as blocks of lead.
Hardly had I taken two steps before Mimi released my arm, swept me up horizontally into a bridal-style carry, and scooped me right into her arms.
“Auntie, go unlock the door, I’ll carry Big Sis upstairs,” she told Mom, while lowering her head to whisper to me, “Big Sis, hold on tight to me.”
I tried to struggle and walk on my own, but she just offered a gentle smile. “Big Sis, don’t worry, I can carry you. You’re way too skinny; you don’t even weigh as much as a single box of clothes from my stockroom.”
Slowly, I raised my arms and wrapped them tightly around her slender neck, absorbing the boundless strength radiating from her delicate frame.
Cradled within her warm embrace, an inexpressible wave of security washed over me.
Carrying me with careful precision, Mimi stepped lightly into the spacious, brightly lit living room and deposited me gently onto the soft, comfortable sofa. I sat quietly, letting my curious eyes wander across the apartment.
The apartment wasn’t large, yet it exuded a warm, intimate charm that made anyone feel the warmth of home the instant they stepped inside.
The living room walls were painted a soft, soothing beige, lending an air of cozy comfort.
Opposite the sofa sat a minimalist yet stylish TV console topped with a large-screen television, surrounded by audio equipment and decorative ornaments. A thick, plush carpet covered the floor, feeling pillowy soft beneath one’s feet.
I immersed myself in the peaceful, lovely environment until my eyes were involuntarily drawn to a set of faded marks on the living room wall where photo frames had clearly once hung.
For some reason, however, those pictures had been removed, leaving behind blank wall space punctuated by a few lonely nails.
I was just about to ask Mom what sort of photos used to hang there.
Looking up, though, I caught Mom staring fixedly at the wall, her eyes shadowed by a flash of sorrow. Sensing the deep loss and helplessness hidden inside Mom’s heart, I swallowed the question and kept quiet.
Mimi extended a hand toward me with a soft smile. “Big Sis, feeling better? Let me show you to your bedroom.”
Her voice was tender yet resolute. I gripped her hand tightly, stood up, and followed her down the hall into the bedroom I used to occupy.
The first thing that caught my eye was a row of bookshelves neatly stacked with tier upon tier of volumes, a significant majority of which were English originals.
My gaze wandered over the titles before my hand brushed casually against a book titled Affinity. Flipping open the cover, I discovered the pages densely covered in annotations, every single note reading like a silent conversation with myself.
“Aurora, they were shadows of you! I was only seeking you out, as you were seeking me. You were seeking me, your own affinity. And if you let them keep me from you now, I think we shall die!” Following the text where my eyes landed, I read the passage aloud inadvertently.
Mimi stared at me with unadulterated adoration, her eyes sparkling with genuine appreciation as she gasped in awe, “Big Sis, your English pronunciation is still as gorgeous as ever!”
Her words brimmed with endless pleasant surprise, as though unearthing an astonishing secret, as she continued, “Just like the books say—amnesia really doesn’t wipe out language proficiency! That is simply amazing!” Her tone rang with absolute affirmation and excitement over this discovery.
Indeed, despite suffering a severe car crash, through the days spent in the hospital I had already realized that my linguistic capabilities hadn’t been erased by the accident.
I used to work as an English simultaneous interpreter; my language skills were both my professional tool and my greatest pride.
Now, though fragments of my memory were lost, the simultaneous interpretation skills I had once mastered so fluently still stayed right by my side, refusing to abandon me.
“Thank you, Mimi,” I turned my head, fixing my gaze on her radiant face as my heart filled with gratitude.
“Big Sis~ Why are you saying thank you to me again! Do that one more time and I’m going to get mad~” Mimi pouted playfully, tapping my arm in mock annoyance while jutting out her lower lip in a cute display of anger.
Yet those watery, sparkling eyes clearly gave away a glint of mischief and bubbling joy.
Glancing around the room, a wave of familiarity washed over me. The books on the shelf, the desk by the window everything felt profoundly dear.
I pulled her into a tight hug, clutching that copy of Affinity as though it were a master key unlocking the door to my past.
“Mimi, how about living here with me?” Looking at the gentle, adorable girl in my arms, my heart overflowed with reluctance to ever let her go.
After spending so much time joined at the hip day in and day out, I realized I was growing increasingly dependent on her. Every flicker of her expression and every gesture had engraved themselves deep into my soul, leaving me hopelessly intoxicated.
I couldn’t even begin to imagine how drab, dreary, and devoid of light my life would become without her by my side.
“Okay!” Mimi beamed happily. “I’ve been wanting to live with Big Sis for the longest time!”
We exchanged a radiant smile, our eyes reflecting mutual happiness.
Right at that moment, the ringing melody of Mimi’s cell phone pierced the air.

“Mimi, how about living here with me?”
“Mimi, how about living here with me?”
“Mimi, how about living here with me?”
Xi Yumi lay flat on her back on the bed, staring at the ceiling as she quietly replayed those words over and over again in her mind.
