I Was Taken by the Female Lead After Transmigrating into a Book - Chapter 88
Besides the send-off event that Ling Xinghe paid for out of his own pocket for his fans, the crew also held a wrap party for him at the top floor of the hotel they were staying at.
Ling Xinghe was still as generous as ever. Knowing that there were fans waiting for him outside the hotel, he busily arranged a fireworks show. The fans outside were delighted by the fireworks. The people inside were no less excited. The small stage was packed with people. As soon as one person finished singing, another would go up. The stage lights were constantly on.
During the evening, Huo Wu and Bai Feifei were able to rest, but the midnight event was a different story, especially for Huo Wu.
For whatever reason, it would be inappropriate for her not to show up. But because she was there, everyone came, and the turnout was very good—although everyone always came to the events anyway.
Although Li Ke was poor, he was never stingy when it mattered. Even the temporary workers from the props team could come in to enjoy the food and greet the people who seemed to be a world away from them.
“I didn’t expect to have to wear a formal dress for this event,” Bai Feifei said. She had been filming all day and thought that a wrap party was just a crew dinner that would last three to five hours at most.
But the reality was that the estimated time was indeed three to five hours, but her hair and makeup alone would take over an hour.
It was another day of working until dawn and not being able to sleep with Huo Wu.
Bai Feifei’s eyes were watery. She kept looking at Huo Wu. Huo Wu was wearing a royal blue long dress tonight. Her long hair was simply tied up in a bun with a wooden hairpin. Her makeup was the same as usual, not too formal, but she had taken it seriously.
The style of her dress was a modernized cheongsam. Bai Feifei vaguely remembered seeing it in a magazine, but she couldn’t remember which one. She just felt that all the models she had seen before were like passing clouds, but when Huo Wu wore the dress, it would always be stunning and unforgettable.
After their hair and makeup were done, it was just the two of them in the room.
Bai Feifei was wearing an orange long dress. The waistline was very tight, but even so, she still had a clip on her back to make sure the waist didn’t look empty.
The dress had a slit on the side that went up to the middle of her thigh. Bai Feifei walked a few steps. The dress was uncomfortable and got in her way. She impatiently pulled the dress apart and walked toward Huo Wu with her bare, pale legs.
Huo Wu’s eyelid twitched.
The moment Bai Feifei walked to her, she slapped the back of her hand.
Bai Feifei covered the back of her hand. “You hit me.”
Huo Wu pulled on Bai Feifei’s dress with her hand, covering her legs. She still didn’t think it was secure enough, so she tucked it in again. After a moment, she said, “You’re not allowed to do that outside.”
“I’m not stupid,” Bai Feifei said playfully. “There’s no one else here.”
Huo Wu glanced at her, thinking that wasn’t necessarily true.
Bai Feifei was used to being casual and didn’t like to wear dresses, and she also didn’t like to sit in a prim manner. The first time they had a formal date, she chose a skirt that was just past her knees. Everything was normal when they were watching a movie, but things got interesting when they were eating at a famous barbecue stall later.
The stools at the barbecue stall were low, and she had to squat to sit on them. At first, Bai Feifei could at least remember that she was wearing a skirt. But after two beers, she was about to do a high kick and shout “five big shots, six six six” to the people at the next table.
It wasn’t until Huo Wu wrapped her jacket around Bai Feifei’s waist that she realized what she was doing. She even complained that the skirt felt like a blanket on her legs and wanted to pull it up even more.
Huo Wu’s voice was full of warning. “You are not allowed to lift your skirt outside.”
Bai Feifei’s hand was on the edge of the skirt, ready to try it out. She gave a cheeky look and lifted her skirt again in front of Huo Wu. Before she could react, she laughed and ran out.
The lights that night were bright and dim. Huo Wu was constantly going on stage to give speeches, and take photos. She was also forced to sing a slightly off-key ballad after being pushed onto the stage by friends and staff. She and Bai Feifei didn’t get to spend much time together. When she occasionally caught a glimpse of Bai Feifei, she was always surrounded by different actors or staff, and her eyes were always smiling.
But more often than not, a moment after her eyes landed on Bai Feifei, Bai Feifei would also look at her. Then, as if she suddenly remembered something, she would deliberately put her hand on the skirt and pull it up, then put it down, and then give Huo Wu a smug smile.
Huo Wu took a sip of the red wine in her hand and handed the empty glass to a waiter. She walked to Li Ke and whispered a few words to him.
Li Ke looked at her in surprise. His gaze scanned the room and quickly found Bai Feifei, who was surrounded by a crowd in a corner. Ling Xinghe and Li Ran were shouting until their faces turned red. With their emotions running high, they were making fists and cheering for Bai Feifei.
He looked again and saw that they were playing a drinking game. A bunch of posters were piled on the side as betting chips. He was too far away to see whose they were.
He laughed out loud. Only then did he have the time to look at the people who were close to Bai Feifei. Most of them were curious about what was happening and had formed a circle that was gradually expanding.
Li Ke realized that a person really could laugh when they were at their most speechless.
He said, “You better take her away from me now.”
Huo Wu patted his arm, left the stage, and walked to the table where a bunch of people were gathered with a serious and righteous look on her face. She then realized that they were already in full costume.
Ling Xinghe had two little mustaches drawn on his face. On his left cheek, he had the character “he” (荷, lotus), and on his right, the character “guan” (官, official). Bai Feifei had a small crown drawn between her eyebrows, with a few dots on top of the crown. Huo Wu took it all in and walked over to the table and knocked on it.
Bai Feifei later recalled that the atmosphere at that moment was like a classroom in her youth. The sound of all the students whispering and murmuring had turned into a “buzz,” but then it suddenly became completely silent. You could hear a pin drop.
But unlike in her youth, the students wouldn’t run away. But everyone at the table, upon realizing that Huo Wu’s target was Bai Feifei, immediately scattered in a panic.
Bai Feifei looked at her “card buddies,” who had perfectly blended back into the party not far away, showing no signs of having been agitated. She contemplated for five seconds. Her eyes lit up as she collected all of Huo Wu’s merchandise on the table, not even missing the almost-gone fake nail stickers on the side. She peeled off the last one, held it up, and stuck it on her chest.
Huo Wu was immediately at a loss.
Outside, the temperature was still low from the continuous rain. A cold wind hit them as they walked out of the hall. Bai Feifei’s scent was a bit of a mixture, but in the end, all that was left was the strong smell of alcohol.
It was much more authentic than the wine in the hall. Huo Wu sniffed and raised an eyebrow. “Who gave you the wine?”
Bai Feifei’s face had turned a translucent pink. She was still somewhat conscious, but clearly not very.
She could still respond to Huo Wu’s question, but the way she held the items in her arms was like a watchdog guarding its food.
“Our little brother,” Bai Feifei giggled, showing a row of white teeth. “Our brother-in-law. He said I’ve never had it before, and you’ve had very little. He said he stole it from our sister’s wine cellar.”
Ling Xingchen was a wine lover and a collector. If Ling Xinghe touched a wine that she had been saving, his legs would be broken when he got home.
Huo Wu raised an eyebrow, once again realizing that when kids with no brains played together, they really didn’t consider the consequences.
They never learned their lesson.
But Bai Feifei leaned into Huo Wu’s arms. Huo Wu held her and walked for a while. It seemed that she noticed that it was quiet and there was no one around, and that she felt safe with Huo Wu there. She mysteriously handed the pile of merchandise wrapped in a cheap red plastic bag to Huo Wu and started rummaging through it with unsteady steps.
They were only a few steps away from the room. Huo Wu was pushed against the wall by Bai Feifei.
She let Bai Feifei’s head rest on her collarbone and looked down to ask her, “What are you looking for?”
“I saved some for you,” Bai Feifei mumbled. Her hands had no strength, and she was rummaging through it very slowly.
Huo Wu didn’t rush her. Bai Feifei looked down and rummaged for a long time. Finally, at the very bottom, she found a delicate box.
Bai Feifei’s soft hands opened the box. She carefully held it up to Huo Wu, placing it on top of the pile of Huo Wu’s merchandise. She looked up and said in a direct and sincere voice, “Ah Wu, this is for you.”
Inside was the bottle of red wine that Bai Feifei had specifically saved for Huo Wu.
Huo Wu’s voice was calm. “How did you save it?”
Bai Feifei stammered for a long time. Under Huo Wu’s gentle and almost doting gaze, she stood on her tiptoes, brought her mouth to her ear, and said in a whisper, “I swapped it with my brother’s.”
One of Huo Wu’s ears turned completely red. She swallowed hard twice, and her voice was a little hoarse. “He didn’t suspect anything?”
Bai Feifei smiled and leaned back against her. Separated by a pile of light merchandise, she hugged Huo Wu face to face. When she spoke, her soft lips were pressed against Huo Wu’s collarbone and shoulder, like a series of gentle pecks.
“I lied to him,” Bai Feifei’s voice was a little proud. “I told him that this wine was just sour.”
Huo Wu lowered her head and touched Bai Feifei’s forehead with her lips a few times. “He believed you?”
“Hmm…” Bai Feifei shook her head. “I don’t know if he believed me or not. Anyway, I swapped it.”
Huo Wu gave a soft “mm” and said, “My hands are full. I can’t drink it.”
“I’ll feed you.” Bai Feifei agreed very naturally, but she hesitated for a moment, seemingly wondering how to open the cork.
Huo Wu asked her, “Still want to hug?”
Bai Feifei nodded pitifully.
Huo Wu looked at her and said, “The cork has already been opened. It’s not tight. You can bite it open with your teeth.”
Bai Feifei nodded. After two seconds, she tried to bite it open with her mouth.
She wasn’t very skilled. Huo Wu then said, “Be careful. Bite along the edge. Don’t use too much force.”
Bai Feifei stuck out her tongue and licked it, then gave another “mm.” This time, she quickly bit the cork open.
She held the bottle up to Huo Wu’s lips, but the bottle was heavy. If she tilted it down, the wine would spill everywhere. Her remaining sanity told her not to do that, but she couldn’t think of a better way. She stopped and said pitifully, “What should I do? I can’t get it to you.”
But before Huo Wu could answer, she seemed to have already imagined the wine spilling all over Huo Wu. Her other free hand moved from Huo Wu’s waist, gently placed on Huo Wu’s neck, and stayed there.
Huo Wu’s eyes were fixed on her. She said, “I’ll teach you.”
Bai Feifei nodded.
Huo Wu took the merchandise in one hand, used her fingerprint to open the door, and as she entered, she casually threw the bag to the side. She then grabbed Bai Feifei’s chin, making her turn her gaze away from the useless junk and look at her.
Huo Wu took the dark-colored wine bottle from Bai Feifei’s hand. She effortlessly made her tilt her head back, then lifted the bottle, aimed it at Bai Feifei’s rosy lips, and said softly, “Open your mouth.”
Bai Feifei was mesmerized and opened her mouth. Huo Wu was very cautious and careful. She only fed her a little and then moved the bottle away.
Bai Feifei accidentally swallowed it. Huo Wu then fed her a little more. The aroma of the wine started to spread in the airtight room. Bai Feifei’s breathing was hot and fiery. She seemed to finally realize something, and her gaze was fixed on Huo Wu’s lips.
This time, before she could swallow the red wine, Huo Wu’s thumb wiped a trace of wine from the corner of her lips and leaned in to kiss her.
Their lips met, but Bai Feifei firmly remembered the last words Huo Wu had said to her.
She remembered it very clearly all night.
