I Was Taken by the Female Lead After Transmigrating into a Book - Chapter 85
That night, Huo Wu packed her things and moved in with Bai Feifei.
Her things were simple to pack. She only brought her phone charger, a few changes of clothes, and some wet cat food for Little White. The rest of her clothes and other miscellaneous items were handled by a dedicated assistant who would regularly take inventory and use them as needed. In other words, Huo Wu didn’t have to worry about a thing.
This made Bai Feifei feel a little uncomfortable.
After a while, she finally asked a question. “Should we go get a refund for the room?”
Huo Wu looked up and said, “No need.”
There were too many things. Although she was now living with Bai Feifei, if all her things were moved in, there wouldn’t be enough space. So she just left her other things there and only brought what she needed for daily use.
When she said that, Bai Feifei’s face scrunched up again. “Won’t that be too much trouble? Then won’t you have to go back to get things if you need them?”
It wasn’t a big deal. In a film crew, everyone usually did what was most convenient. When they weren’t filming, both male and female actors rarely wore makeup, and they only had a few outfits that they would wear over and over again.
Bai Feifei reluctantly nodded, but after a moment, she said, “Then if you need anything, just tell me.”
Huo Wu thought she was going to say, “You can use any of my things,” but Bai Feifei said, “I’ll help you get them.”
Her mind seemed to have its own unique logic, and Huo Wu found it fascinating.
“I’ll be just like you just now. I’ll go to your room with a script, and you can secretly give me the room card. I’ll pretend to knock on the door so people will think you opened it for me, but it’ll actually be me opening it myself!” Bai Feifei was so happy. “Am I smart?”
“I’m curious,” Huo Wu said slowly. “What would you need to pretend to be asking about a script to knock on my door in the middle of the night for?”
Bai Feifei was stumped. For a moment, she couldn’t think of anything specific.
But just as Huo Wu said, after the “Behind the Scenes” crew had filmed enough hotel material, Bai Xue told Bai Feifei that they wouldn’t be coming again. This meant that when Bai Feifei didn’t have a scene in the morning, she might be able to sleep in with Huo Wu.
If Huo Wu didn’t have a scene either.
At 5:30 a.m., when the sky was just starting to get light, Bai Feifei was already at the film set, getting her makeup done by the makeup artist.
The filming schedule for the past two days had been completely flipped. Bai Feifei couldn’t remember what time they finished last night. Today, they had to film the scene where Li Mingming’s surgery failed and he died, so she wouldn’t have any free time all day.
She opened her eyes and tried to find Huo Wu in the mirror, but after a while, she couldn’t find her and closed her eyes again in exhaustion.
Because the final cut would constantly flash back between inside and outside the hospital, Fusang had to see Li Mingming’s body being pushed out with her own eyes. So Ling Xinghe was also working overtime with her.
He was sitting not far away. His makeup was a little more difficult to do than Bai Feifei’s. In post-production, they would also have to add special effects to make him look like a “dead person.” They had apparently hired a team from abroad for this, because in the show, Li Mingming’s mother didn’t believe the cause of his death was so complicated, so she had his body preserved in a morgue for an autopsy.
Ling Xinghe was a little claustrophobic. The autopsy, which would be done with him in a morgue drawer, wouldn’t be very short. There wasn’t even a light inside, and he couldn’t move. He was a little scared, but Huo Wu was busy, so he subconsciously went over to Bai Feifei.
But he didn’t expect Bai Feifei to be so tired that she kept nodding off. He would say ten sentences, and Bai Feifei wouldn’t respond to seven or eight of them.
Ling Xinghe couldn’t help but be suspicious. “What did you do last night? Didn’t you finish work at around 1 a.m.? You shouldn’t be this tired after only three or four hours of sleep, right?”
Bai Feifei opened her eyes and looked at Ling Xinghe in the mirror. She let out a sigh that was full of complex emotions.
Last night, she and Huo Wu were done at around 3 a.m. They messed around for a while, and by the time they both went to bed, it was almost 4 a.m. … But Bai Feifei was reluctant to sleep.
Last night, the rain had stopped, and the moonlight was a rare sight. Bai Feifei just stared at her for over an hour, cupping her face like a creep. By the time she finally realized how ridiculous this behavior was and was too tired to stay awake, Bai Xue knocked on the door.
Bai Feifei looked at the call sheet again and suddenly remembered the couple who had fought yesterday. She asked Ling Xinghe, “How did they start fighting last night?”
At the mention of gossip, she finally perked up. No one in the entire crew probably knew the details better than Ling Xinghe. He was there for the whole thing and even helped to break it up.
“What else could it be?” Ling Xinghe pouted. “Cheating, of course. The other person was a high school girl. He tricked her into thinking he was single. When she got pregnant, her parents came looking for him.”
Bai Feifei never expected it to be so thrilling. “And then?”
Ling Xinghe said, “Nothing else happened. They just made it work, saying it was for the child’s sake.”
Bai Feifei was quiet for a moment before saying, “Oh…”
Her thoughts were all over the place, and she changed the subject very quickly. “Huo Wu and I won’t have a child.”
Ling Xinghe, surprisingly, kept up with her train of thought. His face showed a fierce expression. “If you dare to cheat on my sister, I won’t let you get away with it! Besides, what do you mean ‘can’t have a child’? If you want to have a child, is it that hard to fill out an application form when the time is right? Are you short on a few hundred thousand? Is my sister short on a few hundred thousand? Is our Ling family short on a few hundred thousand?!”
Bai Feifei slapped her forehead. “I forgot…”
Technology in this world was a little more advanced than hers, and social tolerance seemed to be a little higher. However, traditional beliefs hadn’t changed much. The mainstream was still natural childbirth and heterosexuality. Same-sex couples were few, but they weren’t non-existent. Children were even fewer, but a few had been reported in recent years.
Bai Feifei hadn’t researched the specific steps. She had completely forgotten that some aspects of this world’s research had reached this level.
Ling Xinghe’s expression became even more ferocious. “Forgot? How can you forget this? Have you never thought about a future with my sister?!”
If he was just messing around when he first brought up the topic of having a child, he was genuinely a little angry now.
No matter how familiar he was with Bai Feifei and how well they got along recently, all of it was based on Huo Wu. If Bai Feifei was just playing with Huo Wu or was like the rumors from before, Ling Xinghe would definitely not be this calm.
Indifference and a sharp tongue were his usual way of treating others.
Bai Feifei, however, said without hesitation, “Are you always thinking about children? I haven’t even proposed yet, so why would I be thinking about children?”
Ling Xinghe decisively shook his head. If they hadn’t been talking about that couple, he would never have brought up the topic of children himself.
But he quickly continued his interrogation. “What about the future?”
“The future…” Bai Feifei’s gaze fell on the drawer where the bodies were kept. “I hope I can lie in the same morgue as her, go into the same crematorium, and be buried in the same grave.”
Ling Xinghe choked.
The air suddenly became quiet. Bai Feifei was confused. “You’re not even satisfied with that answer?”
Ling Xinghe’s expression changed several times, but in the end, he wiped his mouth and said in defeat, “Second Sister, you talk to her. I just can’t talk to her anymore!”
When they talked about the future, they weren’t talking about a good life and plans for the future. Their ideas were more like something from a ghost story. It was impossible to continue this conversation.
Bai Feifei turned her head and saw Huo Wu. She didn’t know when she had come in or how long she had been listening from the door.
Remembering what she had just said, Bai Feifei awkwardly sat up and secretly glanced at Huo Wu.
Huo Wu sat on the chair next to Bai Feifei and actually felt a little disappointed.
Although Ling Xinghe was a bit eccentric, he was still a person with conventional beliefs. Not many people could appreciate all of Bai Feifei’s strange ideas like she did, which she thought was a shame.
Huo Wu suddenly said, “It might be a little difficult to lie in the same morgue.”
Bai Feifei thought about it. You usually had to be dead to get into a morgue. Wanting to die on the same day as Huo Wu would be a bit difficult unless they were both extremely love-crazed and wanted to celebrate a “dying together” festival in the afterlife.
So she said with a little reluctance, “Then let’s just make do with the last two wishes.”
The smile that had disappeared from Huo Wu’s face since she left the hotel in the morning was now back.
She thought for a moment, held back a laugh, and said with a serious face, “Okay, I promise you.”
Bai Feifei cheered. She jumped up from the chair and lunged at Huo Wu, kissing her face and neck several times. She didn’t leave any marks, but she was getting more and more addicted to it. She groaned and clung to her, not wanting to move. She kept saying, “Ah Wu, you’re so good to me.”
Huo Wu said calmly, “You’re good too.”
Before Bai Feifei’s gaze could fall on Ling Xinghe, who was getting ready to lie in the morgue drawer not far away, Huo Wu quickly turned her head back and kissed her pouting lips. She said with a smile, “Don’t even think about me agreeing to lie in there with you to try it out.”
Her unformed idea was exposed, but Bai Feifei wasn’t disappointed. She was surprised. “Why?”
“Because there has to be a third person there,” Huo Wu gestured. As she spoke, she thought it was a little ridiculous that she was seriously discussing this with Bai Feifei, but she didn’t stop talking. “If I push you in first, there will be no one to push me in.”
“Oh,” Bai Feifei said as she realized. “That’s right.”
She thought it would be fine, but Huo Wu probably thought it would be embarrassing.
After all, this was something that would be fine for a child under fifteen to do, but for anyone over fifteen, whether they were a teenager or an adult, it was a bit childish—unless it was for work.
Bai Feifei watched Ling Xinghe being pushed in and pulled out by the staff repeatedly. She said with a sigh, “At least in this scene, I can pretend to sleep for a bit.”
Fusang and Wu Ling were waiting outside the hospital room. This was what Li Mingming had told his teacher before being pushed into the operating room. The homeroom teacher had sent two students to visit the hospital. Li Mingming specifically requested for Fusang and Wu Ling to come.
He knew why he wanted Fusang to go, but why Wu Ling?
Bai Feifei couldn’t figure out the reason for now and could only wait to find out later.
But because she had been waiting outside the hospital room for a long time, Fusang felt tired, so she fell asleep on the hospital hallway floor, with her head on Wu Ling’s lap.
Bai Feifei’s hand lingered on Huo Wu’s thigh, stroking and occasionally pinching it. She seemed to have thought of something and was laughing like a creep.
