I Was Taken by the Female Lead After Transmigrating into a Book - Chapter 46
Bai Feifei had been clutching her phone all day. Not only did she not have a scene with Huo Wu today, but she hadn’t even seen her in person. Bai Feifei was slumped in her chair.
Huo Wu was in charge of Team B recently. Their team was split into two, with the main actors and supporting cast filming in two different studios. Team B had been mainly rushing through Ling Xinghe’s scenes, so their schedule was not synchronized with Team A’s. Huo Wu would only come by during the noon shift change to review the morning’s footage, then return to Team B in the afternoon.
“Hey, eat something, baby,” Fu Xiaoxiao said, bringing over a food container and handing her a small fan. “I went to ask around. The director’s car is on its way. It should be here in about 20 minutes.”
Bai Feifei casually ate the salad from the box. She finished it quickly. With nothing else to do, she looked up, hoping to see Huo Wu’s car at the end of the road, but she was disappointed every time.
Just as Bai Feifei unenthusiastically took out her script to continue reading, Li Ke, who was crouched not far away reviewing a script, answered a call. He then raised the small flag in his hand and jumped up and down. “Hey—I’m right here!”
Bai Feifei immediately looked up and saw a low-profile white car slowly driving towards them. It stopped not far from her. Li Ke threw down the flag and shouted into a megaphone, “It’s so hot! Are you driving over? I don’t want to go out in the sun—”
The car door opened, and Huo Wu, casually wearing some slippers, got out, completely ignoring Li Ke beside her. Bai Feifei froze. Her morning of anxiety and all the words she had rehearsed for various scenarios vanished, leaving her mind completely blank. Looking at Huo Wu’s makeup-free face under her hat, she stammered, “A-Wu…”
“Mhm,” Huo Wu responded. She glanced at the takeout container by Bai Feifei’s hand. “Are you done eating?”
“Mhm,” Bai Feifei lowered her head, restlessly scuffing her toe on the ground.
Huo Wu didn’t say anything either. She just stood there for a moment. Whether it was the atmosphere or the powerful auras of the two of them, no person came within two meters of them. All other beings, regardless of gender, went around them. After a long moment, Huo Wu spoke first. “Is the ground nice to rub?”
Bai Feifei looked up blankly. “Huh?”
Huo Wu didn’t repeat herself. Bai Feifei realized what she meant and stammered, “It’s… it’s okay.”
“Oh.” Huo Wu looked at her for a moment, then rubbed her own foot on the ground. But she seemed to have forgotten that she was wearing a pair of rustic blue slippers. She didn’t notice that she had gotten dirt all over her foot. The dry, dusty ground instantly turned her fair skin a yellowish-brown.
Bai Feifei looked down, her eyes drawn to that foot. Huo Wu stared at the top of her head for a moment and said, “My foot is dirty.”
Bai Feifei couldn’t keep up with Huo Wu’s rhythm. After a long time, she still said, “Huh?”
“Get in the car,” Huo Wu turned and patted the car door. “Let’s find a place to wash my feet.”
That’s how Bai Feifei ended up inexplicably following Huo Wu into her car. The filming location was near a city area, but Huo Wu drove out of the city and even got on the highway. Luoshui was a small, third-tier city. There were many undeveloped mountains nearby, with occasional houses, but it was mostly vast forests. In late summer, the highway was lined with trees in either deep green or maple red. Bai Feifei wanted to take a picture, but she was afraid of getting carsick if she took out her phone.
The highway trip was short. Soon, the two got out of the car and arrived at a rather desolate little shop on the side of the road. Across from the shop was a school, which looked like a vocational high school. There was a small snack street next to it, the kind you find outside every university. It was probably during class time, so there weren’t many pedestrians around. There were only some shop owners outside, preparing things to sell after school.
Huo Wu led Bai Feifei into a shop. The shop wasn’t big, and from the outside, you couldn’t tell what it sold. It looked old. Inside, there was a small door, and behind the door was a small courtyard. The courtyard was well-designed. In the middle, there was a large tree, and not far from the tree, there was even a well, something rarely seen in the city.
Bai Feifei watched as Huo Wu entered the courtyard and, with practiced ease, pulled up a bucket of water from the well and poured it over her feet. The clean water poured down. It was probably a little cold, as Huo Wu let out a small gasp. After she had finished washing her feet, she threw the bucket back into the well, clapped her hands, and said, “Are you thirsty?”
Bai Feifei licked her lips. She was a little thirsty. Her water bottle was back at the studio, and she had only eaten a salad, so she hadn’t needed to drink any water. Now, she was indeed a little parched. Huo Wu gestured for her to follow her back to the front of the shop. She took two bottles of soda from the cooler, expertly opened them with a bottle opener, and handed one to Bai Feifei. “Have a seat.”
Bai Feifei hadn’t said a word the entire time. Her eyes were darting around the shop. “Are you very familiar with this place?” Bai Feifei asked.
Huo Wu nodded. “Mhm. This shop is mine.”
Bai Feifei was shocked. She had known Huo Wu had a lot of assets, big and small, but she never imagined that she would also own a small shop near a vocational high school in such a remote area. Looking at the age of the shop, it must have been around for a long time.
“It was a long time ago,” Huo Wu said with a smile. “I needed to talk to you about something. Are you done drinking?”
Bai Feifei nodded. She had actually figured out Huo Wu’s intention, but she never expected her to bring her here. The nervousness she had finally forgotten rushed back into her mind. All sorts of heated and wild emotions suddenly surged forward, almost suffocating her.
It was very quiet all around. The only sound was the gentle wind. Occasionally, a leaf from late summer would fall to the ground, causing the flustered and helpless Bai Feifei to turn her head and look. Huo Wu observed Bai Feifei for a while. Her gaze moved to the fingers that were constantly picking at her knees, and her eyes deepened. “What are you thinking?”
“What…?” Bai Feifei swallowed. “What do you mean, what am I thinking?”
Huo Wu looked up. Her beautiful, serene eyes held an emotion that Bai Feifei couldn’t read. She could only guess, based on her feelings, a vague impression: Huo Wu seemed nervous. This thought made her freeze. It seemed so hard to comprehend why this emotion would be present on Huo Wu. Sitting in this quiet little shop, Huo Wu was very calm. At least on the surface, she looked very composed. She looked at Bai Feifei and said calmly, “What exactly are you thinking about our relationship?”
Bai Feifei licked her lips and said in a low voice, “I haven’t thought much. Was what I said not clear enough?”
“It wasn’t clear at all,” Huo Wu said.
Bai Feifei was stunned. She instantly looked up, her eyes fixed on Huo Wu, filled with confusion. Huo Wu stared intently into Bai Feifei’s eyes and instantly understood her confusion. She said in a calm, clear voice, “Okay, then I’ll speak, and you listen.”
Bai Feifei nodded and subconsciously straightened her back, her posture as proper as a little kid’s. This pose made Huo Wu’s lips curve upward slightly, and then she suppressed it. Huo Wu said, “Does what you said last night mean that you want our relationship to be formal, definite, and brought into the open?”
Of course. Bai Feifei nodded without hesitation. Huo Wu nodded, giving her a response. Then, she looked at Bai Feifei and said, “I agree.”
Bai Feifei froze for a few seconds when she heard this, before finally realizing what Huo Wu meant. Her eyes instantly lit up. Huo Wu lightly coughed, looked at Bai Feifei, and said slowly, “Don’t get ahead of yourself. Let me confirm one last time.”
Huo Wu looked at Bai Feifei’s nervous demeanor, and the anxiety in her own heart seemed to slowly subside. She even noticed that Bai Feifei’s stool was slowly inching closer to her at a barely perceptible rate. She tried to focus on several points before she finally confirmed this observation. This realization made her very happy. In a flash, she said, “Coming clean means that from now on, you and I will introduce each other as girlfriends. We will be public, and in private, we can be more intimate. Is that right?”
Bai Feifei didn’t know what girlfriends did, but it should be about the same. She quickly nodded. After a moment, she suddenly seemed to have thought of something and said with a fiery gaze, “How intimate is ‘intimate’? Can ‘intimate’ become ‘close’?”
Huo Wu paused. She looked at Bai Feifei for a long time, and her voice became a little deeper. “—Of course, we can.”
Bai Feifei was finally bold enough. She picked up the little folding stool she was sitting on and moved it directly next to Huo Wu. Her eyes were fixed on Huo Wu’s hand. Just as Huo Wu was about to give in and her fingertips felt like they were trembling, her hand was grabbed by another soft hand. That hand was a little smaller than hers, with slender fingers and very beautiful nails. For the sake of the plot, they were coated with a beautiful nail polish that wasn’t overly done. Under the light, they looked particularly smooth and precious.
Huo Wu stared at it for a moment. Just as she was about to say something, she felt Bai Feifei use a little force and gently squeeze her hand. Her eyebrow arched. “Gently now.”
“Okay,” Bai Feifei obediently responded, then smiled. “So… so it’s all resolved?”
“Mhm. It’s good that it’s resolved,” Huo Wu said, a smile on her lips. “I haven’t been able to intervene in anything that’s happened these past few days. Overthinking things is annoying, but I couldn’t stop myself from doing it. Now that it’s clear and we’ve talked about it, everything’s better.”
She wasn’t the only one who was conflicted. Whenever Bai Feifei couldn’t sleep and overthought things, Huo Wu wasn’t doing well either. Countless times, she had passed by Bai Feifei’s hotel, even circling it a few times, but she never saw her. She didn’t have a good excuse to see Bai Feifei, so she could only try her best to create “accidental encounters.” However, on set, everyone was busy beyond belief, so it wasn’t easy to create an opportunity. She had been overthinking things, but then Bai Feifei’s message arrived, giving her a shot of confidence.
It was better to just come clean. Then, no matter what she did in the future, she would have a reason for it. After all, everyone who needed to know already knew. Everyone around them felt that they had been together for a long time, but these two, the actual parties, had been in denial and awkward with each other.
“A-Wu, you don’t have to worry,” Bai Feifei said. “You don’t have to overthink it anymore. I’m very proactive. From now on, when I come looking for you, you just have to give me a firm yes, and I’ll take the lead.”
Huo Wu’s gaze lingered on Bai Feifei’s face, a playful expression on her face. After a long moment, she moved her gaze away and said, “Okay. You can take the lead.”
