I Was Taken by the Female Lead After Transmigrating into a Book - Chapter 2
When Bai Feifei opened her eyes again, it was because of the ringing of a phone. The bell was loud and insistent, a continuous, jarring sound. She struggled to get up, picked up the phone, and mumbled, “Hello?”
There was a brief pause on the other end, followed by a sweet and pleasant female voice: “Hello, ma’am. Your check-out time is approaching. Would you like to extend your stay?”
The sleepy anger that had just started to build up in Bai Feifei was immediately extinguished by the woman’s syrupy voice. “No, no thank you,” she grumbled.
“Alright, ma’am. Have a pleasant day, goodbye.”
A pleasant day?
Bai Feifei was momentarily stunned, her mind finally returning to reality as the phone made a “beep-beep” sound, and she felt the non-stop aching pain all over her body. She was still in the couple’s suite, and across from her was the enormous bathtub that could easily fit two people.
She stiffly moved her leg. The sheet shifted slightly, touching her tender skin. She looked down, and the fragmented memories from last night finally flooded her mind. She remembered that Huo Wu’s clothes had remained perfectly in place. Only she was a mess, her carefully arranged bedsheet dress being casually ripped off by Huo Wu.
But Huo Wu hadn’t done anything… Bai Feifei’s eyes fell on a vending machine in the corner of the room, and her lips twitched. Huo Wu had paid for some toys to help relieve the effects of the drug. From what she could recall, Huo Wu had simply changed into the plain clothes her assistant brought and left.
Bai Feifei took a deep breath. She heard a knock on the door from the outside. Her eyelid twitched, and she said, “Come in.”
The moment the words left her mouth, she was shocked. Her voice was worse than a broken metal gong; it was incredibly hoarse, barely audible. She hadn’t screamed much last night, mostly just groaned. Her voice must have been like this because of the drug.
The person at the door came in.
Bai Feifei watched her with wide eyes.
It wasn’t Huo Wu, nor was it the voice she had heard yesterday, Jing Meng. It was a young girl with a fresh face. She looked about seventeen or eighteen, with a simple high ponytail and a pair of plain, black-rimmed glasses on her small nose.
The image in her mind matched the person in front of her. Bai Feifei thought for a moment. “Guan Ziyao?”
The girl with the high ponytail nodded. She seemed a little hesitant, looking at Bai Feifei. She took two steps forward, stopped at the edge of the carpet, and then took off her canvas shoes before continuing.
“Miss Bai,” she said, finishing her sentence with a noticeable pause after each word. “Is there anything you need?”
Bai Feifei saw the things Guan Ziyao was holding. She used one hand to keep the bedsheet from slipping and extended her other hand, her voice raspy. “Just give me the things. Do you have any water?”
“Yes, yes.” Guan Ziyao fumbled and put the things she was holding on the bed. As if Bai Feifei had opened her up, she took things out of her bag in an orderly manner. “The water is warm, you can drink it directly.”
Guan Ziyao placed everything by the bed, checked it, and seemed to think everything was in order. She stood up, looked at Bai Feifei, and let out a sigh of relief as if she had just completed a major task. She smiled. “I’ll wait outside. Just call me if you need anything.”
Bai Feifei awkwardly nodded and said in a low voice, “Okay.”
Guan Ziyao turned to leave. After putting on her shoes, she seemed to remember something, and she turned back to Bai Feifei. “Teacher Huo said you can go home directly. If you need anything, you can call her. Any… any request you have.”
Bai Feifei opened her mouth but didn’t know what to say. She lowered her head and pursed her lips.
Guan Ziyao finally left.
Bai Feifei looked at the soft nightgown on the bed and fell into a long silence. After hesitating for a moment, Bai Feifei got up and put on the clothes, making herself look decent. The pain in her body brought an unprovoked sense of grievance. She wiped her eyes and walked out of the room weakly, leaning against the wall.
When she stepped out, she saw Guan Ziyao pushing a wheelchair and sitting by the wall, waiting for her. Bai Feifei, who had been struggling to find words for her, couldn’t help but say, “You’re… so considerate.”
Guan Ziyao chuckled foolishly, scratched her head, and asked, “Teacher Huo instructed me. She called a doctor last night, who said the drug would have a side effect of muscle soreness. Miss Bai, would you like to sit?”
Bai Feifei stared at the wheelchair for a moment. “When did she leave last night?”
Guan Ziyao replied, “Just a little while ago.”
So, Huo Wu stayed outside the door with me until now?
Bai Feifei licked her dry lips. “I’ll sit.”
Guan Ziyao drove Bai Feifei all the way home. The original owner’s family had fallen on hard times, but she was still living in their old house. A three-story villa in Yan City, a place where every inch of land was precious, could still be called a home.
The house was in the original owner’s name, which was why it hadn’t been seized after her father’s company went bankrupt. Her father had truly doted on her while he was alive, and this house was a birthday gift for her.
A memory of a middle-aged man suddenly appeared in Bai Feifei’s mind. The image was old and yellowed, and the man looked to be in his early thirties. He wasn’t very tall, but he had a regular face and a slim build. He was about 5’10” and always wore men’s dress shoes with a small heel. He wasn’t even as tall as the original owner’s mother in her heels. But he was a kind and honest man, a rare sight in Yan City’s wealthy circles. He was devoted and family-oriented. He wasn’t a great businessman, but he was very good to his family.
The original owner’s mother came from a wealthy family. When she fell in love with the original owner’s father, she was met with strong opposition. But she was stubborn and left her family with nothing to marry him. Because of this, her relationship with her family never recovered, and she had cut off all contact.
Now, the original owner’s mother was still in the hospital.
Bai Feifei felt a headache coming on. She held her head and walked into the room.
At this time, Guan Ziyao handed her a new phone. “Miss Bai, this is a spare phone for you. The SIM card has been replaced. When we found your phone on those three people last night, all the data had been wiped.”
Bai Feifei took the phone. It was easy to use. The system was already activated, but there were no applications. She thought for a moment, looked up, and said, “…Can you give me Huo Wu’s number?”
Guan Ziyao was surprised, but she nodded.
After Guan Ziyao left, Bai Feifei closed the front door and walked into the house alone. The house used to have three maids and the original owner’s mother. It was always clean and tidy. In the summer, it was filled with the scent of flowers.
Now, the house was a mess. Nothing was in its place. There were delivery boxes and trash from takeout everywhere. There was dust on every surface, and some areas were even muddy.
Bai Feifei looked around and walked slowly to a room on the south side of the second floor. She took off her shoes, got into bed, lay down, and put her hands on her stomach. She stared at the chandelier on the ceiling for a long time without moving.
The phone vibrated. Bai Feifei looked at it. It was a string of numbers with no caller ID. She couldn’t tell who it was, but it seemed familiar. She stared at the number for a few seconds, thinking about Huo Wu’s number, and nonchalantly answered. “Hello? Who is this?”
A lively female voice came from the other end of the line, sounding suspicious. “Baby, are you on drugs? You can’t even recognize my voice? Don’t you love your dearest, darling little treasure anymore?”
Bai Feifei almost spit out the mouthful of water she had just swallowed.
The person on the phone was Fu Xiaoxiao, a close childhood friend of the original owner.
