I Was Sleep-Deprived at a Matchmaking Meeting and Ended Up Engaged - Chapter 5
“Unexpectedly quick reunion, huh.”
The relaxation room, apparently designed by some famous designer was a stylish space themed in red and white. But it was so stylish it felt unsettling.
The two of us sat by the window, drinking iced coffee. My throat happened to be dry, so I gratefully accepted. Well, maybe my throat was dry from nervousness.
This was supposed to be a relaxation room, yet I couldn’t relax at all. Because everyone was staring at us.
This guy is way too handsome!
The way he sat with his back to the potted plant, crossing his ridiculously long legs while holding his glass. I don’t know what it is, but he’s just too cool. Or rather, his face is way too good-looking. Well, maybe that’s just a matter of personal preference.
Actually, Ayato thought, how sleep-deprived must I have been that day to not even notice this guy at all?
“Speaking of which, you’ve been coming here since before, haven’t you?” Ayato asked, thinking to herself that there must be women who welcome him as enthusiastically as they had.
“Yeah. But I never ran into you.”
After commenting how big the company was, Keiki said, “But I thought I’d caught a glimpse of you before, and I was thinking about it—I remember now. Two or three years ago, when I was invited to the large conference hall here, you were sitting at the edge with a price tag on.”
“It’s a name tag.”
“No wonder your name sounded familiar.”
Please, listen to what people are saying.
“Um, earlier, you told everyone that I’m your marriage partner.”
“I didn’t lie, did I? Saying we’re lovers would be a lie, but it’s true that you’re my marriage partner.”
“Um, but you see. That matter just progressed on its own while we accidentally failed to turn it down, right? What do you think about it, Shirakami-san?”
Keiki said there was nothing to think about. “There’s no way we can back out now. I don’t want Kai thinking I was so spaced out I couldn’t make an immediate decision.”
“I’m starting to feel like eliminating Kai-san.” Ayato muttered, looking toward the window where a huge schefflera plant stood.
Ayato had been telling her aunts this long story. “So anyway, I was so shocked that I ended up skipping the drinking party and coming home!”
“You care more about the drinking party than your own marriage?”
Though it was Hanami who answered while looking down, at least getting a response was better than nothing. Everyone else seemed to be looking at pamphlets and not listening at all.
Moreover, her younger sister Yukiyuki, who had just returned from high school, had somehow joined them without anyone noticing.
“Big sis, this staff member is handsome,” she said, showing Ayato the pamphlet for that white wedding venue.
“Oh my, really. I wonder if we can request him specifically?” Hanami leaned forward excitedly.
Wait, is this a host club or something?
“Then let’s go with this one,” her mother, aunt, and sister decided together.
Wait, hold on. What about my opinion?
Yuki said, “I don’t want to wear my uniform. Big sis, give me that dress you wore at Sayama-san’s wedding the other day.”
“I only wore it once!”
“Eh? But Shirakami-san is super rich, right? He’ll buy you lots more from now on!”
“I don’t know whether he’s rich or not,” Ayato said, though she had indeed noticed how deferential the company president had been toward Shirakami today.
“Even I could buy tons of stuff without looking at prices if it’s at a hundred-yen store.”
Yuki replied, “Lately, most things at hundred-yen stores cost five hundred yen.” and started browsing wedding dresses on her tablet. “Big sis, you’d definitely go for a mermaid line, right?”
“Wait! At least let me decide that much!”
Not that I’m planning to get married! Ayato screamed internally.
