I Was Just a Scumbag Extra, But She Loved Me Anyway [Quick Transmigration] - Chapter 36
Getting into the entertainment company wasn’t difficult.
The original host was the sole heir of the Su family—raised with every luxury and doted on endlessly. As long as Su Chenli didn’t cause trouble, even if she’d asked for a rocket, Old Man Su might’ve found a way to get one for her. Let alone a small entertainment subsidiary under the Su Group.
“Are these all of the company’s collaboration projects for the first half of the year?” Su Chenli asked as she flipped through a stack of documents, seated in a conference room under her father’s official delegation.
“Yes,” replied the deputy general manager of Su Entertainment, seated across the long table. “That’s everything for the first half of the year. While we don’t have many artists, our development has actually been quite solid compared to similar companies.”
Su Chenli wasn’t particularly interested in how well Su Entertainment was doing. After all, it wasn’t one of the group’s core ventures. The only reason she was here at all was because these were the very documents Pei Nanxu would have been reviewing.
She flipped through the papers idly, then pulled out one specific file and placed it in front of the deputy manager. “This project just got started?”
The deputy glanced at it. It was a new TV drama starring a recently signed Omega actress, tentatively titled A Dream of the Former Liang Dynasty.
“Yes,” he confirmed quickly. “It’s the first production for a new actress we just signed this year. She has a very distinctive look and has been performing well in her training. The company has high hopes for her. We secured her the lead role to help expand her exposure.”
“Oh? That much potential?” Su Chenli replied, her tone ambiguous.
The deputy couldn’t quite read her expression and hesitated, unsure how to respond.
Su Chenli casually skimmed through the project overview in her hand. “What’s the name of this actress again?”
It took a second for the deputy to realize who she was referring to. “Ah, her name is Shi Shi.”
“Nice name,” Su Chenli remarked casually, using the comment as a pretext as she laid the document flat on the table. “I haven’t visited a set before. Perfect timing—let’s go with this one.”
The deputy was taken aback, glancing down at the file on the table, then back at Su Chenli. He asked uncertainly, “You mean… you’d like to visit the filming site?”
“Is that a problem?” Su Chenli asked, raising an eyebrow. “Or is the location too far from the city and hard to reach?”
Of course it wasn’t. She already knew the filming site wasn’t far from L City. Otherwise, there’s no way a workaholic like Pei Nanxu would’ve spared the time to visit. It wasn’t as though the set was some sacred place only Pei Nanxu could access and she couldn’t.
As expected, the deputy just stammered briefly before quickly replying, “Not at all. It’s actually quite close—about thirty minutes by high-speed train. It’s a very convenient day trip. I was just… surprised that you’d take an interest in this particular project, Miss Su.”
Su Chenli narrowed her eyes slightly and gave the deputy a look.
Was he trying to test her intentions?
She couldn’t blame him. A pampered second-generation heir like her showing up at a relatively unimportant subsidiary instead of training at one of the company’s core divisions was strange enough. But to immediately request a visit to a minor project like A Dream of the Former Liang Dynasty? Anyone would be suspicious.
It would be easy to assume she had her eye on someone in the production team and was looking for an excuse to get close.
Su Chenli sighed silently and lowered her gaze to the profile of the female lead—Shi Shi—on the table.
Well… she did have an ulterior motive. Just not the one they were thinking of.
“Just picked it randomly,” Su Chenli replied lazily, brushing off any implied meaning. “I’ve never been to a drama set before—might as well check one out.”
The deputy thought for a moment, then nodded. “Understood.”
“Alright, I’ll take these files with me,” Su Chenli said, gathering the documents. “Have someone prepare for the trip—I’ll head out this afternoon.”
“Yes, Miss Su,” the deputy answered with a nod.
Su Chenli turned and left the conference room.
According to the original novel, Pei Nanxu’s visit to H City wasn’t just for reviewing A Dream of the Former Liang Dynasty—she also finalized a contract renewal during the same trip. Although the events had shifted slightly now, Su Chenli figured the task would still fall into Pei Nanxu’s hands.
She needed to find a way to get to H City before Pei Nanxu did.
Now that Su Entertainment was under her control, Pei Nanxu no longer had a reason to visit the set. While Su Chenli wished more than anything that Pei Nanxu and Yu Xi would never meet—ideally, they’d remain complete strangers—the reality of the world line couldn’t be ignored.
The mission rule was clear: “Events already written must occur.” That meant when it was Pei Nanxu’s time to appear, she had to appear. Just like how Pei Nanxu was destined to visit H City during this period—certain events, once bound to the world line, could not be reversed.
However, Su Chenli could absolutely arrive first, alter the environment at the filming site, and prevent the original scenario—the one where Pei Nanxu fell for Yu Xi at first sight—from playing out.
She flipped through the documents absentmindedly but found nothing especially useful, so she tossed them aside. After lunch, she boarded the car the company had arranged and headed straight for L City’s film studios.
By the time she arrived, the two producers of A Dream of the Former Liang Dynasty were already waiting outside the set.
Though Su Entertainment was a small company in size, it had massive financial backing. When it came to resources, it spent with the lavishness of a nouveau riche—unrestrained and unapologetic. Case in point: within this modest-sized film base in L City, there were already two projects being shot with Su Group investment.
And yet, despite having her pick of so many projects, the newly appointed Miss Su had made a beeline for A Dream of the Former Liang Dynasty. No one could quite figure out what she was thinking. The two producers had no choice but to accompany her cautiously, terrified that this pampered heiress—who might not know the first thing about production—would suddenly decide to replace an actor on a whim. That would be a nightmare.
“Where’s the director?” asked Su ‘Everyone-thinks-I-know-nothing’ Chenli—formerly a bottom-tier actress herself—as she followed the producers into the set.
“Filming,” one of the producers replied quickly. “They’re shooting an important scene with lots of props right now. The director really can’t step away.”
Su Chenli nodded. “Got it. Setting up scenes like that can take a while. Do you know what they’re filming now? Whose scene is it?”
The lead producer paused, surprised that she’d asked such a specific question.
He hesitated, mentally reviewing the situation.
From what he’d heard, Miss Su had only decided to visit the set after reviewing the project materials and asking about Shi Shi. Was she trying to ask about Shi Shi’s whereabouts now? If so… should they go get her?
But before he could say anything, an elegant Omega actress in flowing period costume appeared from behind a flowering tree near the moon gate, gracefully walking toward them.
The producer breathed a sigh of relief. Speak of the devil. Shi Shi had shown up on her own. It really paid to work under the same company—information spread fast.
“Miss Su, this is Shi Shi, the female lead of A Dream of the Former Liang Dynasty,” the producer said brightly, quickly pulling the Omega over to make an introduction.
Su Chenli gave the actress a quick once-over. She looked familiar, though Su Chenli almost didn’t recognize her at first—she’d assumed she might’ve seen her at a social gathering or party.
“Not bad. Your styling looks good. Keep up the hard work and don’t waste your own efforts,” Su Chenli said encouragingly. Then she turned back to the producer. “So, who’s filming right now?”
She wasn’t trying to pry too deeply—just to casually fish for clues about Yu Xi’s schedule. But the producer’s roundabout answers were starting to get on her nerves.
“Uh…” the producer blanked for a second.
It was Shi Shi who quietly answered, “It’s Yu Xi’s scene… she’s playing the third female lead.”
Yu Xi? Su Chenli froze for a moment, and only then turned to properly look at Shi Shi.
She hadn’t paid much attention before, but now that she was focused, she noticed how clear and bright the Omega’s eyes were—lively, animated, and unusually striking. A rare look. She really could become famous.
But all of that belonged to this small-world storyline—it didn’t matter to her. Right now, Su Chenli had more urgent things to do: she needed to get closer to Yu Xi before anyone else could.
After thinking it through, Su Chenli said, “I’ve never seen a filming set in person before. Could you show me around?”
“Um…” Shi Shi tilted her head slightly to glance at Su Chenli, her cheeks turning red. She quietly turned around and replied, “Sure.”
The set where Yu Xi was filming was quite far from where Su Chenli had arrived. It was located deep inside the film studio, in a soundstage where they had dug out a large pit to shoot a water battle scene. Yu Xi’s character was supposed to run across a huge boat from one end to the other, then fall into the water.
…Su Chenli couldn’t help but complain to herself—what kind of role was this? Either falling into the water, or always on the verge of falling into it.
She didn’t notice the expression on Shi Shi’s face and just followed her, thinking about what to say when she finally met Yu Xi. Thankfully, she had a valid excuse—she was supposedly a friend of Chu Ningxin, so she could use that connection to start a conversation.
Once she gained Yu Xi’s trust, she could bring Pei Nanxu into the picture. With herself as a buffer, there was no way Pei Nanxu would fall in love with Yu Xi.
Everything was going according to plan—until they stepped into the soundstage and saw a group of staff helping someone wrapped in a towel climb out of the water.
“Ah, looks like they just finished filming,” Shi Shi said.
“That’s fine,” Su Chenli replied casually. “I’ll go take a look.”
After all, she was here for Yu Xi. If filming was done, she could meet her without waiting.
Su Chenli slowly walked toward the group—only to suddenly spot someone standing next to Yu Xi. Someone she knew extremely well—and someone she absolutely did not expect to see here.
“…Pei Nanxu?!”
The person standing beside Yu Xi paused, then turned around.
That familiar, beautiful, and cool face appeared clearly in Su Chenli’s line of sight.
Pei Nanxu looked at her calmly for two seconds before asking, “What is it?”
What is it? She had the nerve to ask that?
Su Chenli inhaled deeply and clenched her fists.
No… something wasn’t right. This wasn’t how it was supposed to go. What went wrong? Why was Pei Nanxu here? How did she get here ahead of her? Was there an error in the world line?
“Why are you here?” Su Chenli asked, biting her lip. Her voice carried a trace of frustration and hurt she didn’t mean to show.
If she really had arrived late… did that mean the moment Pei Nanxu was supposed to fall for Yu Xi had already happened?
Pei Nanxu paused for a moment, then said calmly, “Business trip.”
“Don’t lie to me!” Su Chenli blurted out, unable to accept it. “The company you’re supposed to be meeting with is nowhere near here. What kind of business trip brings you to this set?”
She had spent so much time trying to figure out how to convince Pei Nanxu—who hated unnecessary side trips—to visit the set. And yet, the moment she arrived, Pei Nanxu was already here.
What a lovely surprise.
Everyone on set could clearly tell that something unusual was going on between Su Chenli and Pei Nanxu, but no one dared to say a word. After all, their biggest investor was standing right there. Who would be bold enough to interrupt?
Pei Nanxu didn’t respond. She simply lowered her eyes slightly and glanced at Yu Xi, who looked nervous and uncertain. “You remember our partnership, don’t you?”
Yu Xi hesitated, then nodded slowly.
“You don’t need to worry about the rest,” Pei Nanxu said coolly.
