I Was Just a Scumbag Extra, But She Loved Me Anyway [Quick Transmigration] - Chapter 35
The mottled light flickered across Yu Xi’s face, the shifting shadows dancing faintly. Pei Nanxu stared at her, feeling oddly certain she had seen this face before, even though she couldn’t recall when or where.
“President Pei?” the club manager quietly prompted, sounding a bit puzzled.
Pei Nanxu snapped out of her thoughts and looked at Yu Xi’s confused and timid expression. She took a step back and gave way, speaking in a low voice, “Pardon me.”
Yu Xi glanced up at her but quickly averted her eyes, intimidated by Pei Nanxu’s cool, detached demeanor. She dipped her head and hurried past, murmuring softly as she brushed by, “It’s nothing.”
Pei Nanxu didn’t respond. She only turned her head slightly to follow Yu Xi’s retreating figure.
The private room’s door was still ajar. The club manager, perceptive as ever, stepped up to stop it from closing fully. But after a moment of not hearing footsteps, he glanced back—Pei Nanxu was still standing exactly where she’d been.
“Who was that?” she asked, her gaze fixed in the direction Yu Xi had gone.
“Uh…” The club manager hesitated, then said, “She’s an artist under President Chu’s company, Tianhuan Entertainment.”
“What’s her name?” Pei Nanxu asked again.
“Yu Xi,” the manager replied, clearly uncomfortable. “But… she’s rumored to be someone President Chu is keeping.”
“I see.” Pei Nanxu gave Yu Xi’s direction one last glance before turning and entering the room.
Inside the private room, Su Chenli was being dragged into a drinking game by someone who insisted on rolling dice and forcing shots. With a helpless expression, she tried to calm the drunken girl down while checking her phone.
Just a moment ago, she’d looked around and realized Yu Xi had disappeared. She had no idea where the Omega had gone. If the female lead wasn’t here, how was the plot supposed to progress?
Su Chenli had been hoping to help stabilize the storyline a bit—maybe even reduce unnecessary emotional turbulence between the scummy Alpha and the canary Omega. Even if she couldn’t get them to reconcile right now, at least she could keep things on track. She didn’t want Yu Xi’s constant hesitation to waste more time or, worse, drag her beautiful sister into their mess.
She looked up again, scanning the room for any sign of Yu Xi.
And that’s when Pei Nanxu entered.
She was tall and slender, followed closely by the club manager and a few staff members. Even just standing there quietly with her usual cool, composed expression, she radiated poise and restraint. She stood out sharply in the rowdy and chaotic atmosphere of the private room.
Su Chenli’s gaze locked onto her immediately—and she froze.
Oh no. Why is my beautiful sister here?!
She’d planned to slip back home quietly without anyone noticing, but now… things were a disaster.
Pei Nanxu clearly spotted Su Chenli as well. Her eyes darkened, and she headed straight toward her.
Su Chenli started to panic. She hadn’t even said a word yet when the drunk girl beside her raised her glass with a laugh and slurred loudly, “Isn’t that the one your family raised for you—the one you share a bed with? What, she came to find you again?”
Su Chenli blinked.
What did she just say? Was that really what these people said about Pei Nanxu behind her back?
Even if Pei Nanxu wasn’t her beautiful sister—even if she were just a normal supporting character—wasn’t that way too vulgar?
Su Chenli’s eyes turned cold as she stared the girl down. “What did you just say?”
Something in her expression must have struck fear, because the drunk girl immediately fell silent.
The Su family was one of the oldest and most powerful families in L City, with deep roots and influence. Not even the political turmoil of past decades had shaken their position. Among the crowd here tonight, perhaps only Chu Ningxin could speak on equal footing with Su Chenli.
If Su Chenli got truly angry, most people here would be wise enough not to provoke her.
Still, the drunken girl looked utterly bewildered. Back when they used to party together, they always joked like this, and Su Chenli never got upset—in fact, she even used to let them mock Pei Nanxu like this.
So, what changed tonight?
On the other side of the room, Chu Ningxin also noticed Pei Nanxu’s arrival. From a distance, she raised her glass slightly in greeting. Hearing Su Chenli’s sharp words, she turned toward her with a hint of confusion and asked in a low voice, “What’s going on?”
Hearing Chu Ningxin’s voice, Su Chenli forced herself to remember that she was still on a mission. She gave the drunk woman one last, unwilling glance and said coldly, “Don’t let me hear anything like that again.”
Chu Ningxin raised her eyebrows, clearly noticing that something was different about Su Chenli tonight. What’s going on with her?
“Wanna hang around a bit longer or leave now?” Chu Ningxin asked.
“I—”
Before Su Chenli could finish, Pei Nanxu had already reached her. She stopped across the table from Su Chenli and, after casting a brief, indifferent nod in Chu Ningxin’s direction as a greeting, said calmly, “Still not planning to go home?”
Su Chenli hesitated, glancing at Pei Nanxu. “How did you know to come here?”
“What do you think?” Pei Nanxu raised her wrist and glanced at her watch, eyes lowered.
The surrounding guests were beginning to pay attention. Su Chenli could feel their gazes converging on her and Pei Nanxu. The drunk woman’s earlier words still left a bitter taste in her mouth—it felt as though all these people were just waiting to mock her, waiting for Pei Nanxu to come and take her away in shame.
Well, if that’s what they were hoping for, she wasn’t going to let them have it that easy.
“System,” Su Chenli asked in her mind, “is my face-showing mission complete yet?”
[It’s done! I can already see progress in the world timeline. You can leave now without affecting anything.]
Su Chenli paused, then gave a soft laugh. “You can read my mind now?”
[Come on, we’ve already been through two worlds together!]
True. Two whole worlds already.
Time really did fly.
Refocusing on the task at hand, Su Chenli looked back at Chu Ningxin and said, “I’ll leave now.”
Her words stunned not only Chu Ningxin, but even Pei Nanxu’s usually composed face revealed a flicker of surprise.
A strange heaviness rose in Su Chenli’s chest. Just from their reactions, she could guess how terribly the original host had treated Pei Nanxu in the past. And yet… she couldn’t afford to show any concern.
Pei Nanxu was probably the one who understood the original host best in this world. If Su Chenli acted even slightly out of character, she’d be found out immediately—and the system would hit her with another OOC (Out Of Character) warning.
This was her chance to get close to her beautiful sister—she couldn’t take that risk.
“Let’s go,” Su Chenli said at last, lowering her eyes without elaborating further.
That was fine. There was still time. She had plenty of patience.
Pei Nanxu gave her a look, then, slightly surprised, took two steps back, allowing Su Chenli to leave the room with her.
One way or another, Su Chenli’s willingness to leave was good news for Pei Nanxu. Still… could this spoiled heiress really be trusted not to be up to something again?
“By the way, when you came in earlier, did you run into anyone…” Pei Nanxu paused, narrowing her eyes. “What’s that look on your face?”
Su Chenli suddenly thought of Yu Xi, who had left halfway through. Please don’t tell me that in the brief time she was gone, she crossed paths with Pei Nanxu. Who knew what sort of complications that would cause?
But more importantly… what was that expression on Pei Nanxu’s face?
Pei Nanxu quickly masked her guarded look, withdrawing her gaze and turning forward again. Surrounded by staff members, she asked evenly, “You’re really not up to something this time?”
“…Can’t I just behave once in a while?” Su Chenli replied, completely exasperated. Just how much damage did the original host do to make her this suspicious?
Pei Nanxu didn’t respond. Though she didn’t say a single word, the disbelief in her eyes was practically spilling out.
Su Chenli paused, then sighed. “…Alright, alright. This party was boring anyway, okay? Even if you hadn’t shown up, I was already planning to leave.”
Pei Nanxu lowered her gaze, her lashes casting faint shadows over her cheeks. She glanced at Su Chenli. “So you didn’t drink tonight?”
Su Chenli was confused—why was she asking that? Who comes to a club and doesn’t drink at all?
“I had a little. Why?”
Pei Nanxu sighed, sounding tired, and looked away. “Then let’s just hope you don’t mistake people again from drinking the wrong stuff. And if you’re going to throw a drunken tantrum… at least don’t cling to me.”
Su Chenli: “…”
Wait—what did she just say?
The original host got drunk and mistook people… and then clung to Pei Nanxu while throwing a drunken fit?!
That’s outrageous. That’s harassment!
Su Chenli’s jaw clenched in fury. The system had to nudge her with a warning about her emotional fluctuation levels before she could pull herself back together. She took a deep breath, forcing herself to stay calm.
“I didn’t drink that much tonight… No—wait, I was asking you if you ran into anyone on your way in.”
Pei Nanxu’s steps faltered briefly. Yu Xi’s face flashed across her mind.
But Pei Nanxu couldn’t say exactly what it was that made Yu Xi stand out. In fact, she wouldn’t even say she had any special feelings about her. Maybe… she just didn’t feel the need to share everything with Su Chenli.
“No,” Pei Nanxu replied coolly.
“That’s good…” Su Chenli exhaled in relief, muttering under her breath.
Pei Nanxu heard that and frowned slightly, casting a curious glance at Su Chenli.
But Su Chenli didn’t notice. Her mind was already spinning with how to maneuver the plot from here.
There was no way she’d just sit back and watch her lover fall for someone else. There might still be time to help her beautiful sister regain her memories and recognize her—but stopping her from falling for Canary O had just become an urgent priority.
Based on what she’d read from the first thirty-odd chapters of the original novel, Pei Nanxu’s first meeting with Yu Xi was supposed to happen after she began taking on responsibilities at the Su Group. As part of her rotational training, she would inevitably look into one of the group’s less developed branches—Su Entertainment.
The Su family’s business focus wasn’t in the entertainment industry, and Su Entertainment had only a few artists—just three or four. It didn’t have much potential, but it did have a staggering number of partnerships: film deals, commercials, endorsements… The list was long and messy.
It was during one of these inspections that Pei Nanxu visited a shooting location and, by chance, ran into Yu Xi.
At the time, Yu Xi was playing a supporting role for one of Su Entertainment’s artists, filming a scene where she had to leap off a waterfall.
According to the script, she would jump from a height in elaborate period costume. As she descended, the flowing garments were meant to blossom midair like a falling flower. After shooting the plunge, Yu Xi had emerged soaked from the pool at the base of the waterfall, wrapped herself in a towel, and looked up—only to see the elegant and aloof Pei Nanxu standing just a few steps away.
One was a background actress. The other, the face of the investors. Across the crowd, their gazes met—full of that “fated encounter” vibe…
But Su Chenli refused to allow that to happen. Pei Nanxu was hers. The canary Omega could go fall in love with the scummy Alpha instead, like she was supposed to.
Since the entertainment company was clearly a pivotal part of the plot, then why not just take it over directly once she got home? Just like in the previous two worlds, she could step into the storyline, tweak the emotional dynamics, and keep Pei Nanxu far away from Yu Xi.
