Yu Peirong could tell that sometimes Qi Xiyao loved her too carefully. That gentle caution made her feel a little overwhelmed from time to time.
She never thought of herself as Qi Xiyao’s savior, and she never looked at her from a place of superiority.
Qi Xiyao was someone born to shine. She had only been dimmed by meeting the wrong people. Her brilliance had been buried for a while, but it was still there. All she needed was a chance, and she would bloom on her own. Whether Yu Peirong had supported her or not was never the deciding factor.
It was getting late when they drove home. On the way, they passed a fruit shop. Yu Peirong asked the driver to stop and got out to buy some Shine Muscat grapes, which Qi Xiyao loved. Most of the best ones had already been picked over, and the rest were either slightly damaged or priced higher than usual. But Yu Peirong didn’t mind. She bought a few fruits rich in vitamins and carried them home.
After she found out she was pregnant, Qi Xiyao, who never used to like fruit, started enjoying it. Yu Peirong never forced her to follow the idea of “eating for two.” She let her eat whatever she liked.
The first time they saw Shine Muscat grapes, Qi Xiyao had been instantly drawn to them. She peeled them and juiced them at home. The drink was sweet and slightly sour, very refreshing. She could finish two full glasses in one go.
Back home, Yu Peirong got straight to work. Although they had a housekeeper, she liked doing things herself, especially at night. She didn’t enjoy being disturbed during quiet evening hours, and if they wanted something to eat, she preferred making it with her own hands.
Qi Xiyao often felt hungry late at night. No matter how late it was, Yu Peirong would always get up and prepare something light and warm, like a small bowl of shrimp noodles or a simple snack that wasn’t too heavy. Her cooking skills had improved a lot in a short time.
While peeling grapes with her long, slender fingers, Yu Peirong saw Qi Xiyao turn on the television and sit down beside her. She smiled as she watched her wife prepare juice.
“By the way, Sister Rong,” Qi Xiyao said, laughing at a funny scene on the screen. Then she turned to look at her. “You never told me what you used to do for work.”
She had never had a proper chance to ask. When they were still unfamiliar with each other, she didn’t want to pry. Later, there were a few times when she wanted to bring it up, but the words always stopped in her throat. She felt that if Yu Peirong had not shared it herself, maybe she wasn’t meant to ask.
But there were moments when she watched Yu Peirong manage the company with ease or help young actors understand emotions so effortlessly. Her instincts were sharp, her judgment flawless. Qi Xiyao couldn’t help wondering if she had worked in the industry before.
Yu Peirong paused mid-peel. A bit of translucent green juice dripped from her fingertips. Qi Xiyao grabbed a tissue and gently wiped her hands.
Yu Peirong thought for a moment. “I guess you could say we were in the same line of work.”
“The same industry?” Qi Xiyao looked genuinely surprised. Her eyes sparkled with curiosity. She was just about to ask what kind of projects Yu Peirong had worked on, but then she remembered she wouldn’t be able to watch them anyway. A trace of disappointment crossed her face.
Yu Peirong saw her reaction and chuckled.
“I tried to switch careers before I really started. So, I guess it counts.”
In her previous world, Yu Peirong had entered the film industry at a young age. She had been a child star. By her teens, she was already playing lead roles, and in her twenties, she won Best Actress. She had become a household name.
She rarely took romantic roles. Most of her fame came from serious dramas. Not every movie she acted in was a hit, but the industry consistently praised her acting.
In that world, the film industry was still growing. The equipment and filming methods were advanced, but good scripts were becoming rare. Marketing often took priority over quality. Intimate scenes between popular stars were used to draw attention, while genuine storytelling was pushed aside.
Yu Peirong was not a screenwriter, but she had wanted to become a director. She wanted to explore stories from behind the camera. Just as she started reviewing scripts and preparing to make that change, she went to sleep and woke up in this world.
Luckily, her new identity belonged to a wealthy heiress who had inherited a media company. Her background matched her skills almost perfectly. She had never been someone who focused only on acting. She understood the business side well.
Letting go of Ye An gave her the space to try new things, and so far, her attempts had worked out.
Compared to her old world, this one had a more developed film industry. Great scripts and talented writers were everywhere. And now that she had Gu Jinhua as a long-term collaborator, she never had to worry about finding stories to work on.
She also discovered that Qi Xiyao’s taste in scripts was very similar to hers. Their preferences matched well, so they had never argued over a role.
As she spoke about her past, Qi Xiyao listened without blinking, fully focused.
Her wife’s former life had been just as rich and exciting as her current one. Qi Xiyao couldn’t help but admire her, even feel a little envious.
Especially when she learned that Yu Peirong had won Best Actress at such a young age. She was amazed and asked her directly why she didn’t just go back to acting.
“I never got tired of it,” Yu Peirong said with a smile. “I even thought about filming a romantic drama with you. But it’s hard to balance both worlds.”
Yishui Entertainment was not yet at the top. There was still a long way to go. Even though she had her cousin Zheng Xiuxue helping her, she couldn’t rely on her forever.
Lately, Zheng Xiuxue had been hard to track down. She worked seriously during office hours, but the moment she clocked out, she disappeared. This was completely different from her old workaholic routine.
Hearing this, Qi Xiyao perked up. She grabbed a grape from the bowl and popped it into her mouth. Smiling, she said playfully, “Do you think Gu Jinhua has managed to win over Xiuxue yet?”
Yu Peirong heard that tone and immediately felt something was off. She raised her brows and asked, “She hasn’t? Then who has she been running around with lately? Don’t tell me some Alpha has managed to steal her away.”
Qi Xiyao blinked and replied in a teasing voice, “Well, Xiuxue told me not to tell you. Or Gu Jinhua.”
Yu Peirong knew that Qi Xiyao and Zheng Xiuxue were close, but she didn’t expect them to be this close. Somehow, Zheng Xiuxue had even managed to keep her, her own cousin, in the dark.
She felt a little jealous. She wasn’t even sure if she was more jealous of Qi Xiyao or of her cousin.
With narrowed eyes, she reached out to pinch Qi Xiyao’s cheek, only for Qi Xiyao to dodge away laughing.
Qi Xiyao leaned forward and gently licked Yu Peirong’s fingers, making sure to clean away even the grape juice caught between them. Yu Peirong’s heart began to race. She moved closer and softly kissed the corner of Qi Xiyao’s lips, brushing off the last traces of sweetness.
Since Qi Xiyao became pregnant, Yu Peirong’s kisses had grown more tender and lingering than before. They carried a calming warmth, never too rough, never making her breathless.
But tonight was different. Her kiss turned unexpectedly heated. She claimed Qi Xiyao’s mouth with urgency, then trailed kisses down her jawline. Her lips brushed slowly across her cheeks, then finally stopped at the sensitive gland just behind her earlobe. She gave it a soft bite, stirring a wave of delicate, tingling sensation.
Qi Xiyao’s eyes shimmered with tears from the intensity. She gripped the edge of the table, leaning back against her chair, breath hitching in her throat. When Yu Peirong finally pulled away, Qi Xiyao was panting, her smile glowing with mischief.
“We’re both Omegas,” she whispered, “so we’re allowed to have a few secrets, aren’t we?”
Yu Peirong playfully scratched under her chin. “And what secrets could you possibly keep from your wife?”
Qi Xiyao giggled at the ticklish touch. She caught Yu Peirong’s hand and held it tightly, catching her breath. “Let’s make a deal. I’ve been stuck on a scene in my script. If you help me figure it out, I’ll tell you Zheng Xiuxue’s secret.”
Yu Peirong raised an eyebrow, suspicious. “Really?”
“Would I lie to you?”
Truthfully, Yu Peirong wasn’t that curious about Zheng Xiuxue’s secret. She only teased Qi Xiyao for fun. But now that her wife was asking sincerely, how could she possibly refuse?
Qi Xiyao stood up, grabbed the printed script she had prepared earlier, and handed it to Yu Peirong.
She looked a bit shy, but her tone was serious. “I’m having trouble getting the emotional rhythm right in this scene. Can you read it aloud for me?”
Even though it had been a while since she last acted, Yu Peirong still retained the habits she’d built over the years. She took the script and started flipping through it—until something odd caught her eye.
“The Alpha, still recovering from her heat cycle, was visibly weak. Qi Xiyao pinned Yu Peirong against the windowsill, letting sunlight spill across the woman’s pale arms. Their long hair intertwined as Qi Xiyao lifted her leg. The heat of their bodies pressed close. She restrained Yu Peirong gently and kissed her lips—soft, lingering.”
“She slipped one hand behind her neck and, catching her off guard, peeled off the suppressant patch. The Alpha’s scent, rich and intoxicating, immediately flooded the room in a wave of sweetness.”
Wait a minute… wasn’t this from that fanfiction she saw on the forums?
Yu Peirong gave Qi Xiyao a slow kiss on the lips, tasting the lingering warmth. The room’s temperature seemed to rise with each second, the air thick with a sugary sweetness that clung to them both.
She lowered her voice, wrapped her arms around Qi Xiyao’s waist, and murmured against her ear, warm breath sending shivers down her spine.
“Wife, are you sure this is the script you’re planning to shoot?”
It was definitely a reversal story, where the Omega takes the lead. But the fanfiction writer had just updated the ending earlier that afternoon.
And in stories like these, there was always only one outcome: the moment the Omega tried to take control, the Alpha, after being held back for too long, would eventually snap and take everything back.
