- Chapter 60 - Variety Show Invitation
Previously, Qi Xiyao and Yu Peirong had participated in Drifting Notes together and won first place, unlocking a special reward on the spot that secured them a contract for the next variety show.
This meant that no matter how Qi Xiyao’s career progressed, she would automatically qualify for the director’s next project.
Yu Peirong sobered up quite a bit after hearing the news. After asking her assistant for the name of the new dating show, she immediately looked it up on her phone.
What she found shocked her.
Though still in the pre-launch stage, the show was already gaining massive popularity.
Yu Peirong had seen the name of the show before. It had popped up several times online, but since it was a romance program, she hadn’t planned on letting Qi Xiyao participate and had simply ignored it.
She casually tapped into a marketing post, which outlined the format.
Each season invited six guests—three Alphas and three Omegas. The show was rated for adults only, with its main selling point being the subtle tension and chemistry between the participants.
Yu Peirong rubbed her aching temples.
She didn’t explain anything to her assistant just yet and returned to the private dining room to finish the night’s gathering.
Ye An was especially good at drinking games, far more skilled than anyone else at the table. Yu Peirong, although familiar with the entertainment circle, rarely engaged in heavy drinking. She usually avoided these types of parties entirely. Though she could hold her liquor, even she couldn’t withstand round after round.
Because this gathering was among friends, she had let down her guard and ended up drinking far more than expected. By the time they were ready to leave, her head was resting on Qi Xiyao’s shoulder as she mumbled drunkenly.
Qi Xiyao wasn’t a heavy drinker either. She gently stroked Yu Peirong’s cheek and, despite feeling tipsy herself, managed to call a ride service.
Xu Xiaoqi hadn’t drunk as much. During the games, Ye An had deliberately protected her and let her win most rounds, so she stayed relatively sober.
After helping Qi Xiyao and Yu Peirong into the car, Ye An turned and looked at Xu Xiaoqi with a mix of hesitation and nervousness.
She always felt slightly on edge around Xu Xiaoqi. She didn’t know why, but just seeing her made her heartbeat quicken uncontrollably.
“Can I take you home?” she asked softly.
Xu Xiaoqi could have called for her own ride, but considering past experiences, Ye An didn’t want to risk anything happening. She hadn’t drunk much herself and was willing to take Xu Xiaoqi home first, even if their destinations were in completely different directions.
Xu Xiaoqi nodded, picking up her bag and walking out with her.
Spring had just arrived, and the trees were budding with fresh green. The evening wind still carried a bit of winter’s chill.
Ye An, as an Alpha, wasn’t affected by the temperature. She glanced around casually, then took off her jacket and draped it over Xu Xiaoqi’s shoulders.
“I’m feeling warm. Hold onto this for me,” she said softly, though her ears flushed red.
Ye An was not particularly skilled at flirting. She always spoke directly, never beating around the bush. Xu Xiaoqi, wrapped in the coat still warm from Ye An’s body, pursed her lips in a brief, fleeting smile.
The driver they’d ordered was still on the way. Since it was late and the pick-up location was far from the city center, they had to wait for a while.
They stood under a tree, watching the neon lights flicker in the gentle spring rain. Neither of them returned to the private room to avoid the drizzle, allowing the soft rain to soak through their clothing.
During the wait, something unpleasant happened.
Two drunk men stumbled toward them. Emboldened by the alcohol and the cover of night, they approached with vulgar confidence.
Noticing how attractive the two women were, one of the men pointed at Ye An and slurred, “You…”
The taller one suddenly recognized Xu Xiaoqi. “Aren’t you that Omega who had her gland destroyed by multiple Alphas? Looks like you’ve recovered. Why don’t you come play with us?”
Before he could finish, Ye An’s expression darkened. She slapped him hard across the face, sending him reeling backward, eyes wide in disbelief.
He hadn’t expected her to hit so hard. With one swift kick, she knocked him to the ground.
The other man, heavier and more aggressive, reacted quickly and began releasing his pheromones.
But Ye An was cold and calm. Dressed in just a thin shirt, she looked delicate, yet she had no trouble subduing him with force.
Her own pheromones surged out like a protective barrier, shielding the Omega beside her. Though Xu Xiaoqi had previously been marked with Ye An’s scent for medical reasons, the protective instinct still kicked in.
The two drunk men, completely outmatched, were quickly overpowered.
Even before the driver arrived, Ye An had grabbed a tree branch and used it to teach them a harsh lesson.
While all this was happening, Xu Xiaoqi stood quietly by and watched.
Ye An delivered one final blow, stepping on the taller man’s groin with precise control. The man screamed in agony, but didn’t pass out.
The ride arrived shortly after. They got into the car and headed toward Xu Xiaoqi’s hotel.
Xu Xiaoqi looked tired and leaned back, closing her eyes to rest.
As the car turned a corner, the motion caused her to fall gently against Ye An’s shoulder.
Ye An’s whole body stiffened.
Xu Xiaoqi didn’t move. Her breathing remained calm, as if she was still asleep, completely unaware she was nestled in Ye An’s arms. The intimacy of it made Ye An’s heart race.
Once they reached the hotel, Ye An helped her out and asked for her room number before taking her upstairs. Xu Xiaoqi was temporarily staying at a quiet, elegant hotel before leaving the city.
After settling her in, Ye An didn’t leave right away. She looked at her a few more seconds, then brought over a glass of water.
Though Xu Xiaoqi wasn’t drunk, she felt oddly dizzy. She accepted the water and sipped slowly.
Ye An leaned closer to help, and in that moment, caught the faint scent of wine on her lips. It was sweet and mellow, just like her pheromones, which had a grape fragrance that seemed to linger in the air even without alcohol.
When Xu Xiaoqi leaned forward and her hand brushed Ye An’s waist, Ye An felt her mind go blank.
But just before she lost control, she managed to stop herself and gently pushed her away.
Then, Xu Xiaoqi opened her eyes.
In the dim light, her beautiful gaze locked onto Ye An.
Her breathing was warm against Ye An’s face. Her dark eyes held a fire that could easily consume anyone who got too close.
This time, it was Xu Xiaoqi who made the first move and handed her the metaphorical glass of wine.
Ye An trembled. As the warmth between them grew stronger, she finally gave in and closed her eyes.
She mumbled softly, her voice slightly slurred. She curled her long legs up onto the sofa and casually grabbed a pillow to hug against her chest.
Yu Peirong’s ears were flushed red, her eyes hazy. Her breath came out warm and heavy. The scent of red wine wasn’t unpleasant, and the air had been lightly sprayed with freshener. When she opened her mouth, Qi Xiyao quickly used a minty breath spray, filling the space with a cool mint aroma that mixed with the fruity scent around them.
“Eat some fruit first. I’ll go out and get your hangover medicine,” Qi Xiyao said, gently offering the fruit plate. “It’ll be here soon. Just hang in there.”
“Don’t go!”
As soon as she heard the word “out,” Yu Peirong frowned slightly, like a sulking child. She grabbed Qi Xiyao’s hand with a firm Alpha grip. Qi Xiyao couldn’t break free and was pulled right into her arms.
She had never seen Yu Peirong like this before. Qi Xiyao landed right on her lap, and the Alpha clung to her tightly, nuzzling gently at her scent gland.
The edge of her scent suppressant patch had come loose, and the fresh aroma of citrus tea filled the air. Yu Peirong inhaled deeply, visibly delighted, and even stretched out her tongue to lightly lick the soft spot of Qi Xiyao’s neck.
Qi Xiyao shivered, quickly trying to wriggle free.
Just then, the phone that had been tossed onto the carpet began to buzz. Qi Xiyao pushed Yu Peirong away, grabbed the phone, and went downstairs to retrieve the hangover medicine that had just arrived.
When she returned, she found the Alpha sitting on the sofa, knees tucked up to her chest, staring at her with a pitiful expression.
That look made Qi Xiyao’s heart soften immediately.
She opened the medicine packet and tried to hand her the pills, but before she could bring them to her lips, Yu Peirong pulled her right back into her arms.
Yu Peirong’s breath was hot against her ears, her cheeks, the corners of her eyes. Then came a wave of heated kisses that surrounded her completely.
It started with a gentle touch, lips brushing against hers as if tasting the citrusy sweetness of her scent. Her tongue teased lightly, then pressed forward, slowly taking over and stealing her breath away, filling the space between them with warmth and need.
Qi Xiyao’s ears were burning. The hangover pills had already been snatched from her hand and tossed onto the table. With her hands finally free, she clutched at Yu Peirong’s clothes. Her collar had fallen open slightly, and Qi Xiyao tugged it wider, revealing a glimpse of a camisole underneath.
“Peirong,” Qi Xiyao whispered, her voice tight with restraint. She braced one leg against her lover, feeling the softness of their closeness. “Take the medicine first. If your head hurts tomorrow, it’ll be awful.”
Yu Peirong didn’t reply. After a brief pause, she leaned in and kissed her again.
Her lips trailed down, from cheek to neck, leaving warm, lingering marks along her collarbone.
Spring clothes were light, and though Qi Xiyao was an Omega, she was only wearing a thin knit sweater. A silver chrysanthemum was embroidered at the chest, and Yu Peirong’s hand clenched around the fabric tightly.
She gently bit down on the scent gland at the nape of Qi Xiyao’s neck, slowly grinding against it, like savoring an early spring cherry still wet with morning dew. It was just a taste. She eventually stopped when Qi Xiyao softly pushed her back.
Lying on the couch, Yu Peirong was finally coaxed into taking the medicine.
The hangover pills had a mild sedative effect. As they began to work, Qi Xiyao leaned down and fed her a slice of peach, gently transferring it mouth to mouth.
Shortly after, Yu Peirong fell asleep on the couch.
The home’s climate system kept the temperature steady. Qi Xiyao turned it on and, seeing how peaceful Yu Peirong looked, didn’t bother waking her to move to the bedroom.
Instead, she went to take a shower.
Water splashed as it ran over her back. Qi Xiyao ran her slender fingers along her skin, feeling a soft tingle at her scent gland.
She thought about how busy Yu Peirong had been lately. Ever since she started managing the girl group, problems kept piling up.
From Yu Shang and Yu Litian to Lu Zhiyao, all of them were messy affairs she had to sort through. Now that the father and son were both in prison, word had it that Yu Shang spent his days cursing and being bullied by other inmates. But none of that mattered anymore.
The future was finally looking brighter. Her world had started to open up.
—
Yu Peirong woke up to find the sun already shining. A light breeze filtered in through the sheer curtains, carrying warm daylight with it.
In the bathroom, the clinking sounds of bottles and jars could be heard. Qi Xiyao was washing up.
Yu Peirong got up and walked toward her. From the doorway, she could see the elegant curve of Qi Xiyao’s figure. Even with no makeup, her skin was radiant and clear, and her delicate features looked effortlessly beautiful.
A smile played on Yu Peirong’s lips, but then she remembered the dating show invitation from that director.
There would definitely be several bold, aggressive Alphas among the guests.
Her smile faded quickly. She stepped forward and hugged Qi Xiyao from behind, leaning close to whisper beside her ear.
“Wife, how about we go on that dating show together?”
