- Chapter 54 - Public Humiliation On the Spot
Lu Zhiyao was furious.
She was soaked, her face dripping with water. This was the first time in her life she had ever been treated like this.
The water had been hot enough to leave her skin red but not burned. From childhood to now, no one had ever laid a hand on her. Being humiliated like this by someone she had once desired left her stunned. In that moment, the obsession in her eyes was replaced by cold hatred.
She scrubbed her face furiously with tissues, her glare full of resentment as she looked at Yu Peirong.
But Yu Peirong seemed oblivious to the fire in her eyes. She lazily yawned and asked, as if nothing had happened,
“What’s wrong?”
Lu Zhiyao was so angry she lost her appetite. She stood up and left without saying another word.
Yu Peirong stayed where she was and watched her walk away.
Qihang Hotel was known for its refined and expensive cuisine. The food was excellent, and Yu Peirong had managed to book the table through an app after much effort. She had ordered a meal for two.
Since Lu Zhiyao had left before the food even arrived, Yu Peirong asked the waiter to pack it all to go. She also bought a few of Qi Xiyao’s favorite desserts on the way out.
While on the road, she called Qi Xiyao and told her not to eat yet because her plans had changed and she would be back soon.
By the time she returned home, the Omega had just finished her shower and stepped out of the bathroom. The scent of her grapefruit and green tea pheromones lingered softly in the air.
Yu Peirong set the food down and took a deep breath. The scent of the pheromones filled her senses and settled in, dominant and unyielding. Her cheeks flushed slightly, and to hide it, she went into the kitchen to grab chopsticks.
Qi Xiyao sat on the couch scrolling through Weibo. When Yu Peirong came out, she looked up and said,
“Tomorrow is the final promotional event for this segment. It’s the press conference. The studio wants to push the release in time for the Spring Festival. Some of the more controversial films meant for the season got delayed due to approval issues, so we have a good window.”
If they acted quickly, the film might just make it into the top few slots of the Spring Festival release schedule.
The movie had strong lead and supporting performances. The cast had both good looks and talent. The storyline was tight, the pacing was right, and the themes were emotionally charged without crossing any moral lines.
This was exactly the kind of buzz that could go viral. The director, Quan Zhihong, had always been ambitious, and she clearly wanted to make a name for herself with this film.
Under different circumstances, Yu Peirong might have admired her skill. But now, just thinking about her made Yu Peirong feel uncomfortable.
Quan Zhihong was deliberately avoiding them lately, but Yu Peirong had no intention of letting her off the hook.
“I’ll go with you tomorrow.”
She opened the packed food containers as she spoke. Qi Xiyao looked surprised, then heard her continue in a steady voice.
“As your manager, I can’t just let you run loose on your own.”
Qi Xiyao laughed.

The next day, Yu Peirong went along as promised. When Quan Zhihong saw her, her expression faltered. Just yesterday, she had been beaming with confidence as she welcomed various industry guests. But now, the sight of Yu Peirong brought back painful memories of being overpowered.
Alpha pheromones were inherently aggressive. When two Alphas crossed paths, tension could rise quickly.
For any Alpha, losing a pheromone clash was humiliating. The incident was still fresh, and Quan Zhihong now looked at Yu Peirong like a mouse spotting a cat, barely able to breathe.
Yu Peirong, however, had no interest in acknowledging her.
Quan Zhihong was focused on managing the event, guiding the red carpet interviews and coordinating the press. The conference was centered on the movie’s box office presales, and she had put on her best professional smile for the crowd of reporters.
When questions shifted to the film’s lead and supporting actors, Quan Zhihong handed the microphones and cameras over to the cast. At the same time, reporters came to interview Qi Xiyao. Noticing Yu Peirong nearby, many cameras turned toward her as well.
Though she was not an actress, Yu Peirong was a public figure. Her legal battle against Yu Shang had stirred massive public attention. The reporters recognized the opportunity and began bombarding her with questions about the Yu family feud.
Some even tried to dig into Xu Xiaoqi’s story, but Yu Peirong shut them down calmly.
She was not the kind of person who chased clout at others’ expense. Xu Xiaoqi’s current condition still seemed fragile. Even if she was improving, facing the media right now would not help her. Most entertainment reporters no longer cared about ethics. As long as a story had heat, they would run it, regardless of the harm it might cause.
During the interviews, Quan Zhihong kept sneaking glances in their direction.
When Yu Peirong noticed, she smiled politely and said,
“This is Director Quan’s press conference. It doesn’t seem appropriate for me to be the focus of questions about other artists.”
“Personally, I think Director Quan is very talented. I had always wanted to work with her. But after this project, I realized that my first impression was quite different from how things actually turned out.”
Quan Zhihong’s face changed instantly. Her chest tightened with panic. She hated the feeling but managed to stay calm, unlike that night when she had completely lost control.
Then Yu Peirong turned to the reporters and said,
“While we’re on the subject, I want to share something. I recently went to the hospital and learned that I’ve undergone a secondary gender differentiation. I used to be an Omega, but now I’m an Alpha.”
The crowd gasped. Reporters’ eyes widened in surprise. Yu Peirong’s tone remained even, her expression calm, but her words stirred the atmosphere like a spark in dry grass.
“Actually, secondary differentiation isn’t that rare. For example, Director Quan. I could smell her pheromones the last time we met.”
At the mention of pheromones, Yao Yiti, who had been silently standing nearby, felt a jolt of dread. Her heart skipped a beat as she glanced at her partner.
Quan Zhihong’s pheromones had always been a source of tension. And now, just as expected, even though Yu Peirong had not described the scent or accused her of trying to mark anyone by force, the reporters began turning their attention toward her with suspicion.
Quan Zhihong’s hands trembled. Her polite smile collapsed. She forced a weak smirk and quickly found an excuse to leave the stage.
There was no need for Yu Peirong to say more. The reporters, who were like sharks scenting blood, would handle the rest far more ruthlessly than she ever could.
She watched a few of them shift focus back to Qi Xiyao and then quietly left the scene. When she returned backstage, she saw Quan Zhihong again.
The woman’s face was pale, her breathing labored. She had just escaped from a mob of relentless reporters who clung to her like leeches.
When she saw Yu Peirong, she bit down hard on her lip, tasting blood on the tip of her tongue. But she had no way to fight back.
Yu Peirong had always been the kind of person who paid back every slight. After what Quan Zhihong had done to her partner, there was no way she would simply let it go.
She knew that an Alpha’s pride often centered around their pheromones. To be exposed and humiliated like that in front of others must have left Quan Zhihong deeply uncomfortable. But Yu Peirong had intended it that way. It was deliberate and ruthless payback.
“Director Quan.”
Yu Peirong poured herself a glass of water and sat on the soft leather sofa in the lounge. Even though Quan Zhihong looked miserable, there was nothing she could do.
Yu Peirong spoke slowly. Her voice was calm and even, but the look in her eyes showed a faint hint of contempt that dug straight into Quan Zhihong’s heart, making her feel even more anxious and on edge.
“Next time you want to lose control, make sure you know whether you’re clinging to someone with real power or just a stray dog that could be kicked out at any moment.”
Quan Zhihong stayed silent, her face tight with frustration. A moment later, someone came in looking for wardrobe items. An Xiaomeng, who had not been told what had happened earlier, walked in cheerfully and smiled.
“Director Quan, I heard you became an Alpha. Congratulations.”
Her assistant quickly noticed something was wrong and pulled her aside. The cheerful comment only made Quan Zhihong feel worse. Her fingers began to shake.
Yu Peirong looked at the time, stood up, and left.
After she walked out, Quan Zhihong asked everyone else to leave. She then stormed into the dressing area, pulled out her phone, and made a call.
Yu Litian answered quickly. After listening to her half-complaint and half-plea, he gave a few vague responses before changing the topic.
“Let’s wait a couple more days…”

Qi Xiyao finished all her interviews without delay. She left the venue immediately without staying to socialize. Yu Peirong had brought several bodyguards with her, all tall and well-trained, and they made sure no one could approach or sneak in.
Yu Peirong remained silent on the way back. Her beautiful face looked calm, but her cold and distant expression made her difficult to approach.
However, once she stepped back inside their home, the look on her face began to soften.
Qi Xiyao had just finished taking off her coat. Yu Peirong walked over, gently helped her with the buttons, and leaned in close. She softly licked the corner of Qi Xiyao’s lips with a playful smile.
Qi Xiyao was caught off guard by the kiss. She closed her eyes and leaned into it as their warmth grew stronger. The kiss deepened naturally. Yu Peirong’s kissing skills had improved, and soon Qi Xiyao felt her legs weaken. She wrapped her arms around Yu Peirong’s waist and leaned against the wall, clinging to her as their kiss lingered.
Only when their lips began to feel sore did they finally pull apart.
Qi Xiyao was breathing heavily, and her eyes met Yu Peirong’s bright, affectionate gaze.
Knowing that Qi Xiyao had been exhausted from the day’s work, Yu Peirong didn’t take things any further. Her eyes were full of gentle laughter. She softly ran her thumb across Qi Xiyao’s lips to wipe away any trace of the kiss.
“I told everyone I’m an Alpha today, but I didn’t say anything about our relationship.”
Her voice was warm and sincere. As she let go of Qi Xiyao and walked into the bedroom, she added cheerfully,
“Of course, if you want to go public, I’m ready any time.”
Before making that decision, she planned to prepare everything properly. If Qi Xiyao wanted to share their relationship with the world, Yu Peirong would be there with her through it all, ready to face anything together.
Once she reached the bedroom, she opened a drawer near the bed and rummaged through a few things. She saw some rubber-sealed boxes and a few small ID cards, but not what she was looking for. So, she called out playfully from the room,
“Sweetheart, when are we getting our marriage certificate?”
