- Chapter 49 - Resisting Temptation
Frequent heat cycles were never a good sign for an Omega. Qi Xiyao had never received a temporary mark from any Alpha before, so each time her body entered heat, the craving for pheromones only intensified.
It was like a hidden fire. No matter how long it was suppressed, one day that pressure would turn a flickering flame into a roaring blaze that could engulf her completely.
She guessed it was because her last heat had not been properly managed. She had allowed herself a little too much indulgence, and that lack of restraint probably triggered this next one to come so soon.
Qi Xiyao didn’t dare get too close to Yu Peirong anymore. She was afraid of what might happen if they accidentally crossed a line. So she stood up and adjusted her clothes calmly.
Even with her memory gone, Yu Peirong still carried herself with grace and composure. When Qi Xiyao stood, she didn’t seem upset but instead gave her a look that gently asked if she had gone too far just now.
Qi Xiyao felt a wave of warmth in her heart and quickly shook her head, reassuring her that it wasn’t her fault.
“Let’s eat at home tonight,” she said softly. “I want something light. I have a magazine shoot tomorrow, and after that I’ll be on the road for a while.”
Takeout was often greasy and heavily seasoned. While the flavors were sometimes excellent, nothing compared to the healthiness of a home-cooked meal.
Back when she was traveling constantly for work, Qi Xiyao was always meticulous about managing her physical condition. Every opportunity was hard-won, and there was never a guarantee there would be a next time.
Even now, with Yu Peirong as her agent, her career resources had improved significantly. She was finally being treated on par with other celebrities, but she still never let herself slack on self-discipline.
On the night before a shoot, she usually had a simple dinner of boiled vegetables with a pinch of salt. Though she could cook, she hadn’t really explored fat-loss meals before, since her weight had never required strict control. This was more of an occasional routine.
Once they got in the car, Yu Peirong opened a grocery delivery app and asked what dishes Qi Xiyao wanted for dinner.
Knowing Yu Peirong’s cooking skills were… average at best, Qi Xiyao teased her.
“What dishes? Wait, are you planning to cook for me?”
The car was in autopilot mode, smoothly gliding through traffic on the elevated expressway. Yu Peirong leaned her chin on one hand and turned her head to look at her. The setting sun cast a golden glow across her side profile.
Her voice was bright and clear. She stared directly at Qi Xiyao and asked, “Why not? Don’t you trust my loving culinary skills?”
Qi Xiyao couldn’t help but laugh.
This version of Yu Peirong, more playful and innocent after losing her memory, brought out a softer, coaxing side in Qi Xiyao. Half-joking, she replied, “Fine, fine, I believe you.” She never expected that once they got home, Yu Peirong would really roll up her sleeves and head into the kitchen with the fresh ingredients delivered by the runner.
Before a work trip, Qi Xiyao avoided oily foods. But her health wasn’t the strongest, and she had been running around the company all day handling paperwork. Lunch was just a few bites of boxed food, and she suspected that only eating vegetables tonight wouldn’t be enough.
Yu Peirong had bought low-fat, low-calorie chicken breast along with fresh fruits and vegetables. She planned to experiment in the kitchen with some diet-friendly recipes.
For some reason, even with her amnesia, Yu Peirong still retained scattered memories. Little things seemed to linger.
She remembered that Qi Xiyao liked sweets. But because of her job, she had to control her figure, so even eating a single creamy candy was a luxury.
Yu Peirong sliced tomatoes into a pulp and busied herself in the kitchen.
When Qi Xiyao came to check in after tidying up, she saw the once-confident woman flustered and fumbling, holding her phone and watching a cooking tutorial.
But the result turned out better than expected. The chicken breast was coated in fresh tomato sauce. The tomatoes had been cut into thin slices, mashed, and sprinkled with diced pieces for texture. The result was colorful, crisp, and fresh.
It was served with lightly boiled baby cabbage in a clear broth. The flavors were simple and clean.
Normally, Yu Peirong had little interest in meals like this. She only ate them when absolutely necessary. But tonight, she sat and ate with Qi Xiyao, and the next morning, she personally took her to the airport.
Before boarding, Qi Xiyao gave her a quick hug in the lounge. It was a short trip, but this time it felt different. She was heading abroad for a shoot. Although there were no additional events scheduled overseas, it wasn’t worth the trouble to fly back and forth, so she planned to stay for a day or two to rest.
The whole trip would take about four or five days. After returning, she would immediately jump into promotional work for her latest drama.
Quanzhi Hong, the production company, was quite invested in the show. It was a strong IP, and they had spent generously on promotion. The leads were well-known, and they were putting serious effort into promoting Qi Xiyao’s supporting role as well.
They knew she had a tight schedule and told her not to worry. Once she returned, they would do a joint livestream to warm up publicity. Post-production was nearly done, and once it passed review, they would move quickly to release it in the first half of the year.
While Qi Xiyao was away working, Yu Peirong picked up where she had left off with the girl group project.
Yishui Entertainment had produced some popular idols before, but mostly solo artists. Their usual process involved open auditions and forming groups through training camps. They had never launched a full-scale survival show.
This was a blank space in Yishui’s history. Her half-brother, Yu Shang, had likely been planning to create something similar before.
Yu Peirong reviewed the submitted project proposal in detail. She gave preliminary approval but marked areas for discussion. She didn’t force her decisions, instead choosing to collaborate with the team.
This time, Yishui was partnering with Qinghua TV, a well-known national network, to launch a two-year limited group. Auditions were over, and trainees had already started dropping out due to the tough conditions.
About two hundred remained. Yu Peirong planned to begin filming their progress gradually, later editing the footage into episodes. She wanted to show what these trainees were really like behind the scenes, before stepping onto the stage or being exposed to public attention.
The hardest part of training was the long stretches without cameras. It was during this time that their patience and commitment were truly tested. Whether someone was genuinely hardworking became very clear.
On her second day back at the company to oversee progress, Yu Peirong was already being followed by a group of young, pretty trainees. Some were Alphas, others Omegas.
During lunch break, she ran into a few of them buying water. Most greeted her respectfully with a nod or a smile. But one girl subtly followed behind her. When no one else was around, she quietly stepped into the elevator with her.
As the elevator doors opened, Yu Peirong caught a whiff of an Alpha’s pheromones. She turned around and saw a tall, striking young woman standing behind her. The girl met her gaze and lifted the corners of her lips into a slight smile.
Yu Peirong found it strange at first. Then she suddenly remembered that Qi Xiyao had told her she was publicly registered as an Omega. In that moment, it became clear what this girl was trying to do.
The girl’s pheromones had a sea salt scent. Her level was clearly not as high as Yu Peirong’s. The smell was unpleasant to her, and she had to fight the urge to release her own pheromones in order to suppress the girl. Instead, she simply lifted her eyelids and silently pointed toward the nearby security camera.
The moment the girl followed her gaze, her expression changed. Her face flushed red and then turned pale. She froze, not knowing what to do next.
Before joining Yishui Entertainment, the girl had heard rumors that President Yu was attracted to both Alphas and Omegas. The gossip said she was easygoing about those things, and breaking into the industry at Yishui might be easier with that in mind.
Training at other companies had been exhausting. She had reached her limit and came to Yishui hoping for a shortcut. In a moment of poor judgment, she believed the rumors and thought she might gain favor through a bold approach.
Now, staring into Yu Peirong’s calm and detached gaze, she broke into a cold sweat. Her silly fantasies dissolved into panic. Her breathing quickened, and her face turned hot with shame.
She closed her eyes and thought it was over. Just as she was about to turn and leave, Yu Peirong spoke in a steady, clear voice.
“We will pretend this never happened. If you withdraw from the program on your own, I will not report anything to other companies.”
Her tone was calm and composed, completely unaffected by what had just happened. After a slight pause, her voice softened, as if she had remembered someone important.
“And besides, I have a wife now. Please be mindful of boundaries. I am not someone who plays around.”
President Yu has a wife?
The girl stumbled back a step. Her head spun, as if she had fallen into a dark pit. She had thought Yu Peirong was mocking her, but when she turned her face slightly to peek, she saw that the woman’s expression was serene and firm. A faint smile rested at the corner of her lips, carrying a quiet sense of happiness.
It did not seem like a lie.
The girl’s heart was pounding. She covered her face, too embarrassed to say a word, and quickly left without looking back.
After that incident, Yu Peirong noticed a clear shift in the atmosphere over the following days. Anyone who had once looked at her with questionable intentions either stopped or quietly gave up and went home.
Those who stayed became more focused. As the chances of debuting increased, everyone became more motivated. The overall mood turned more positive, and even the dance instructor, known for being strict, began to offer praise more frequently.
It seemed like President Yu really had changed.

Elsewhere, Qi Xiyao had just finished her overseas shoot and stepped off the plane holding an invitation to a red carpet show.
She had originally thought this trip was only for a magazine shoot, but the photographer turned out to be unexpectedly enthusiastic. After meeting her, he immediately clicked with her personality and praised her as his muse in heavily accented English. He insisted she attend his next fashion show, leaving Qi Xiyao both amused and overwhelmed.
Still, it was a good opportunity. After discussing it with Yu Peirong over the phone, she agreed to attend and stayed a little longer to shoot a few extra photo sets.
This was her first time working with such a major international magazine. Everything felt new and exciting.
She was eager to share the good news with Yu Peirong. Just as she stepped into the arrival area, she noticed a familiar figure waiting nearby.
Before she could move away, Quanzhi Hong approached with a warm smile and gently took her wrist.
“Don’t worry,” he said calmly. “President Yu sent me to pick you up.”
What?
