I Transmigrated into a Scummy Alpha and Stole the Heroine from Her Tragic Romance - Chapter 29
Yu Peirong’s expression softened instantly, as if all the coldness in her face had melted away.
There was no denying that when an Omega acted sweet and affectionate, it had a powerful effect. Especially when it came from someone like Qi Xiyao, who had already shared a few ambiguous moments with her.
Even through the screen, Yu Peirong could imagine the slightly aggrieved tone in Qi Xiyao’s voice, paired with her dewy, doe-like eyes. Her eye makeup shimmered faintly, with soft gold highlighting her lower lids, giving her an innocent and delicate look.
She was still wearing her costume for the drama. It was one of the few bright outfits her character got to wear. Normally, the role was timid and gloomy, blending quietly into the background. Only during a rare moment of transformation did the character wear something this vivid.
Qi Xiyao had naturally elegant features, and as an Omega, her skin and overall presence were soft and refined. Even without makeup, her face was nearly flawless. Her lips were naturally pigmented, but for the camera, she had on a glossy, deep-toned lipstick that shimmered like glass. Paired with a soft matte base, her entire look was clean and radiant.
But the moment their eyes met through the screen, Yu Peirong immediately ended the call.
“The one you’ve got your eye on is immature and dull.”
She didn’t even glance at Yu Shang as she said it. Her voice carried a mocking edge. Yu Shang had clearly recognized Qi Xiyao’s voice. He had known her for a long time, but he had never imagined she could speak in that kind of soft, affectionate tone.
Even though the call was with an Omega, and worse, with his half-sister, Yu Shang couldn’t stop the wave of jealousy rising in him. He regretted not acting sooner. He could have marked Qi Xiyao already, but instead, he had chosen to be patient, giving her space. Now it felt like he had given someone else an opportunity.
Annoyed, he dropped any pretense of being polite in front of Yu Peirong. After all, their father always favored him, and now that Yu Peirong’s Omega identity was public knowledge, he saw no reason to keep up appearances.
In a powerful family like theirs, how could a physically weaker Omega be in charge? Leaders were supposed to be Alphas. To him, Yu Peirong was just putting on a show. Once the arranged marriage was finalized, the company would eventually fall into his hands.
Yu Peirong’s cold voice cut through his thoughts.
“I was talking to you. What were you thinking about?”
She picked up the printed proposal and threw it on the table with clear disgust.
“You want to build an internal pheromone extraction database for Alphas and Omegas to prevent mental deterioration during sensitive periods?”
Her gaze was sharp and scornful.
“You can’t even manage a few problematic artists. Don’t bring up something this absurd again.”
Yu Shang was clearly irritated but still tried to argue. The conversation quickly turned into a heated exchange. He tossed his phone onto the sofa in frustration, muttering under his breath.
Yu Peirong was not someone easily intimidated. Her words struck precisely, leaving Yu Shang speechless.
A new policy had recently been introduced. Because the rate of differentiation between Alphas and Omegas had become increasingly unpredictable, companies were now allowed to set up internal emergency support centers. These stations would help employees during extreme physical phases, especially when they lacked access to compatible partners.
This new policy also created a new profession: pheromone support guides. These people would be trained to help Alphas and Omegas safely through their episodes.
Yu Shang clearly wanted to exploit the policy. His real goal was to use it as a pretext to get close to Qi Xiyao. If he could temporarily mark her, her body would begin developing a dependency on his pheromones. After that, everything would be much easier.
But the heat cycle of an Omega wasn’t as predictable as a Beta woman’s menstrual cycle. Qi Xiyao would never share something so private with him.
So how did he know it was coming?
Yu Peirong grew increasingly suspicious.
“By the way,” Yu Shang added with a hint of smugness, “Dad’s arranged a blind date for you. You’ll need to go home.”
“I’m not going,” Yu Peirong said without hesitation.
He expected that answer. With a slight smirk, he added, “It’s with Lu Zhiyao, the eldest daughter of the Lu family.”
The name made Yu Peirong’s fingers tremble slightly as she held her water glass.
The reaction was immediate. A flood of fragmented memories surged through her mind. She forced herself to stay composed, unwilling to let Yu Shang see her falter.
The ripples in the glass mirrored her momentary loss of control. After taking a deep breath, she calmly said, “Alright.”
After Yu Shang finally left, Yu Peirong waited until he was far enough away before reopening her chat with Qi Xiyao.
Her earlier response had been too intense. She didn’t want to break character in front of Yu Shang, but she also didn’t want to upset Qi Xiyao, who was already close to entering her heat period. She had no choice but to end the call then and planned to explain later.
This time, the call rang for a long while before it was answered.
When Qi Xiyao finally appeared on screen, she still had on her bright makeup. But there was a visible pout on her lips, and her expression held a trace of subtle annoyance. She bit her lip lightly and looked at Yu Peirong with a mix of reproach and longing.
Omegas nearing their heat cycle were especially sensitive, not just physically but emotionally as well.
Qi Xiyao didn’t have a regular Alpha. Yu Peirong was the only one she trusted to this extent. It was natural for her to act this way now. Her affectionate tone and the way she looked at her weren’t calculated. They were instinctive.
And that made Yu Peirong’s heart soften again.
“Sorry,” she said gently. Her voice had lost the cold edge she used with Yu Shang. Now it was soft and warm, as if she were afraid to upset the woman on the screen. “I had something to handle just now, so I had to hang up.”
“It’s fine.”
Qi Xiyao pressed her fingertips to her chin, eyes unfocused. She looked lazy, but there was tension in her voice.
“President Yu was next to you, right? Well, he is your brother.”
She wasn’t just annoyed. She was uneasy.
Despite how kind Yu Peirong had been recently, a small part of Qi Xiyao still worried. When it came down to it, would Yu Peirong side with her family?
Yu Shang was a sly one. If he ever tried to sweet talk her or claim he liked her, would Yu Peirong hesitate? Would she change her mind and push her into Yu Shang’s arms?
But to Yu Peirong, Qi Xiyao’s tone sounded very different.
Their relationship was no longer just friendly. It had long passed that line. Yu Peirong hadn’t acted in a romance between women before, but she had seen many and even had lesbian friends back in her previous world.
She remembered one friend’s story. During their ambiguous phase, a single accidental kiss had led to weeks of emotional back-and-forth. They tested each other constantly.
Now Qi Xiyao, who had never shown any concern about her being around Yu Shang before, suddenly minded. That shift was glaringly obvious.
The more Yu Peirong thought about it, the more suspicious she became.
Was Qi Xiyao jealous?
Jealous of her being around Yu Shang?
Yu Peirong was startled by her own thoughts. She stared at Qi Xiyao’s face again, and the memory suddenly came back to her. Since Yu Shang had pursued her before, regardless of whether anything came of it, as his older sister, she should be mindful and keep a bit of distance. Now that Qi Xiyao seemed bothered by her talking to Yu Shang, it clearly showed that she cared about their sibling relationship being repaired. Which meant something else.
Was it possible that Qi Xiyao had started to like her?
Just thinking about that made Yu Peirong’s ears feel warm. The more she thought about it, the more likely it seemed.
Especially considering how awkward and fidgety Qi Xiyao was acting as an Omega. It was hard not to imagine there was something going on. That vague possibility started to grow in Yu Peirong’s mind. She gave a soft cough, trying to pull herself back to reality, only to realize her face had turned red without her even noticing.
This shy reaction wasn’t something she had experienced before. In fact, Yu Peirong wasn’t even sure of her own romantic preferences. She had never been in a relationship, so she didn’t know whether she liked men or women.
But Alphas are usually attracted to Omegas, right?
She was an Alpha who preferred Omegas, and being liked by someone as stunning as Qi Xiyao still made her feel genuinely happy. Especially when that beautiful woman looked at her with those expressive eyes, filled with something unspoken and lingering. It made Yu Peirong feel nervous, restless, and even a little excited.
Regardless of whether someone is Alpha or Omega, man or woman, who wouldn’t want to be liked by a gorgeous girl?
Of course, Yu Peirong still had her sense of reason. She wasn’t going to let things develop just because the opportunity appeared.
Even if the female lead didn’t end up with the male lead, there was no way she, the original villain, would end up with her either.
Yu Peirong gently coaxed Qi Xiyao a few times and saw the coldness on her face slowly fade away. That made her heart flutter a little. Her emotions were starting to get complicated, and she felt slightly giddy. Her voice softened without her realizing it. She couldn’t bring herself to act cold and indifferent anymore, not toward this Omega who looked so vulnerable. She didn’t want to seem like a heartless machine.
Just as Qi Xiyao mumbled that she was getting ready for bed and was about to hang up, Yu Peirong nodded. At that moment, a soft buzzing sound broke the silence of the room.
She turned around and saw that it was coming from a men’s phone lying on the sofa.
Yu Peirong had a sudden hunch. She instinctively put down her own phone and walked over. Next to a folder on the sofa was a phone that had been left behind. Its screen was flashing, and a voice message had popped up. She declined the call and tapped on the auto-play button.
A familiar voice echoed in the quiet room.
“What should I do, Brother Shang? It really wasn’t me who caused Qi Xiyao’s heat cycle. That stupid idea came from Zhao Yayi. Now the police are about to find out it was me. Even if you don’t like me, you shouldn’t be so heartless and just watch from the sidelines.”
“Also, Xu Xiaoqi’s mental state seems to be improving. Her glands were damaged, but it looks like she met an Alpha with a matching pheromone source. He agreed to try using his pheromones to help her. I have a strong feeling she’s going to come back soon.”
