I Transmigrated into a Scummy Alpha and Stole the Heroine from Her Tragic Romance - Chapter 23
Qi Xiyao woke up to a low murmur of voices in the background.
The light was dim and warm, not like the lighting in their hotel room, but rather from the temporary break room set up by the film crew. The couch beneath her was stiff and uncomfortable. As she slowly opened her eyes, she heard Yu Peirong’s calm and frosty voice.
“Too much cold wind? Really? She’s an Omega, yet she treats her body like this.”
“I’m sorry, Director Yu. It was my fault. I forgot to bring Yao Yao an extra coat.”
The assistant quickly took responsibility in a soft and apologetic voice. That seemed to take the edge off Yu Peirong’s temper. She waved her hand and signaled the assistant to leave. Just before leaving, the assistant suddenly remembered something. She turned back at the doorway and spoke again.
“Also, Director Yu, about Li Yafang and Zhu Qi. The matter might need you to join a video call tonight. The police are pushing for a response. What do you think?”
“Alright. I understand. Let Secretary Yang know. I’ll go over in a bit.”
Li Yafang and Zhu Qi were the two entertainers who had secretly filmed them earlier. Yu Peirong had immediately filed a lawsuit for defamation and invasion of privacy, and there were still some follow-up matters to handle.
As she spoke, she noticed Qi Xiyao had already managed to sit up with some effort. She quickly signaled the assistant to step out.
“You’re awake?”
Her voice carried no concern. If anything, it held a faint scolding tone. Qi Xiyao sat up with the blanket wrapped around her, her head still a little groggy, though her mind was mostly clear.
Next to her bed was a cup of tea. Her gaze drifted to the rosebuds floating gently in the hot water. Instead of reaching for it, Qi Xiyao held her head and lowered it in quiet despair. Her long lashes drooped down, hiding the emotions in her eyes.
Her makeup from earlier had already made her complexion pale and dull to match the character she played. Now, with her low spirits, she looked even more delicate and pitiful. Her soft almond-shaped eyes were slightly misty, the dark pupils reflecting the shimmer of restrained tears.
Seeing her like that, Yu Peirong no longer had the heart to criticize her.
Qi Xiyao lifted her head obediently and looked directly at Yu Peirong.
“Sister Rong, my heat cycle is coming soon.” Her voice grew quieter toward the end, as if she also felt her request was inappropriate. “Could you help me?”
Yu Peirong froze for a moment, letting out a soft, surprised sound.
“No, no, I didn’t mean that you should mark me.” Qi Xiyao quickly realized the misunderstanding and blushed. “I just mean, could you help me keep it quiet? I don’t want anyone to know I’m entering heat.”
Yu Peirong finally understood.
For an Omega filming on set, it made sense to want to hide her heat cycle. There were many people in the crew. Most were Betas, but there were still a few Alphas. Wanting privacy in such an environment was completely reasonable.
She had read enough stories to understand that Alphas and Omegas had specific biological phases. When an Omega went into heat without support, it could be an overwhelming ordeal. Suppressing the symptoms for too long could also weaken the body over time. The most effective solution was to have a compatible Alpha give a temporary mark to ease the symptoms. Many Omegas did this, sometimes with trusted friends. Some even visited medical clinics for temporary matches.
Thinking of this, Yu Peirong calmly asked her a question.
“Is there any Alpha you know who has a compatibility rate of over 50 percent with you?”
Qi Xiyao was stunned and fell silent.
Yu Peirong looked at her, thinking she was too shy to answer. Her tone became a little firmer.
“As far as I know, temporary marking is not dangerous. If it’s someone trustworthy, you can let them help. Otherwise, if you keep pushing your body like this…”
“The Alpha who has the highest compatibility with me is Yu Shang.”
Qi Xiyao suddenly interrupted. Her voice was filled with exhaustion. She turned her head to the side and clenched her teeth. Her delicate chin lowered until it nearly touched her chest. It looked like she wanted to hide completely under the blanket. Her lips were pressed into a straight, pale line. She was clearly holding back her emotions.
Yu Peirong’s heart tightened.
She remembered the plot of the original story. The first real connection between the male and female leads had taken place during the heroine’s heat cycle.
It was a disturbing and forceful scene. The male lead had found the heroine unconscious on the side of the road and marked her without her consent. Most people only gave mild, temporary marks during such times. Yu Shang, however, had flooded her with his pheromones. As a result, the heroine became increasingly dependent on him.
Yu Peirong had never understood how someone like Yu Shang became the male lead. Aside from his good looks, everything he did pushed the limits of what was acceptable. He had no respect for Omegas. He was the very definition of an overbearing Alpha. It was infuriating.
If she were an Omega, even if all the other Alphas in the world disappeared, she would never choose someone like Yu Shang to mark her.
But this time, Qi Xiyao’s heat might be especially severe. The fact that she had fainted so suddenly earlier made that clear. No one passes out just from catching a chill. Qi Xiyao exercised regularly and was in good health.
What should she do?
Should she personally step in to help?
Yu Peirong immediately dismissed that idea.
Yes, she was an Alpha, but she had been pretending to be an Omega to avoid getting dragged into the original plot. There was no way she would risk marking the heroine.
The headache returned, but Yu Peirong turned and looked directly into Qi Xiyao’s eyes. Her voice was cold and firm.
“I will not allow Yu Shang to mark you. Even if he wants to, I will stop him.”
She had tried to make her tone colder than usual. Her eyes were calm and steady, her long lashes casting faint shadows on her cheeks.
Yu Peirong’s features were naturally sharp. When she looked at someone like this, it created a quiet but undeniable pressure. But Qi Xiyao did not seem upset at all. Instead, she smiled with quiet relief.
“Then I’ll go back to work. If anything happens, just call the assistant.”
Qi Xiyao nodded gently. Her lips curved upward into a soft, graceful smile.
Yu Peirong’s video call with the police lasted more than two hours.
The police questioning was clear and to the point, but since the incident had occurred in a camera blind spot, it took extra effort to verify everything. On top of that, the complaint had revealed even more serious problems. It included not only the secret filming, but also other matters such as recommending actresses to executives, forcing them to drink, and even assisting in sexual assault.
After wrapping up a major task, Yu Peirong let out a long breath, exhausted, and slumped into the comfortable chair, her head spinning. She opened the mini fridge in the room, only to find it out of cold water. Just as she was about to order delivery, a sudden thought struck her.
Qi Xiyao still hadn’t finished filming that short scene, and she hadn’t returned to the hotel either.
