“Someone else’s fiancée is still a fiancée?”

“Sister Bian, I’m back!” Xuan Yuchi’s tone was undulating, deliberately sounding coy.

“Who are you?” The voice on the other end was icy.

It wasn’t Bian Yunchen who answered the phone.

Xuan Yuchi glanced at her phone; the number was correct.

“I’m Xuan Yuchi. I’m looking for Yunchen.”

Amy, the agent, frowned. The name sounded vaguely familiar.

Then she remembered—wasn’t this the disgraced individual who had been engaged to Yunchen many years ago?

Why would a person like this call? To borrow money, ride Yunchen’s fame, or try to climb the social ladder?

Amy: “She’s busy.”

Xuan Yuchi: “May I ask who you are?”

Amy: “I’m her agent.”

Xuan Yuchi smiled sweetly: “Sister Agent, please hand the phone to her. She knows it’s me; she’ll definitely take my call first.”

Amy rolled her eyes. Who did this person think she was?

What nerve.

In Amy’s mind, Xuan Yuchi was no different from a typical sasaeng fan (obsessive fan).

Amy: “Okay.”

She hung up and immediately blocked Xuan Yuchi’s number.

Xuan Yuchi stood there for ten minutes before growing impatient.

This wasn’t right. Her matters always ranked high on Yunchen’s list of priorities; the call should have been returned within three minutes.

Since so much time had passed, the only possibility was that the agent hadn’t conveyed her message at all.

Forget it. It seems this agent had no idea how close she and Yunchen were.

Xuan Yuchi dialed her mother’s number again.

“The number you have dialed is currently switched off…”

What’s going on? Neither of them is available.

Her precious self, back in the motherland, with no one to welcome her… Fine, she’d take a taxi home herself.

Getting out of the car, Xuan Yuchi handed the driver four banknotes: “Keep the change.”

Driver: “Alright, safe travels to you.”

“Identification failed. Do you wish to call the owner?”

“Hey, beautiful, are you here for the party too?” A lightly dressed woman sidled up to Xuan Yuchi.

“Identification successful.”

The external iron gate automatically slid open. The woman draped her arm over Xuan Yuchi’s shoulder and guided her forward: “What’s your name? I haven’t seen you around before, but you’re very pretty.”

Xuan Yuchi was puzzled. How did this outsider open her family’s security gate?

Woman: “Are you Bai Fu’s friend?”

Xuan Yuchi played along: “Yes, she invited me.”

The woman scoffed: “There’s no time like the present. My car is outside. Don’t you want to come with me and…”

In the distance, a solitary figure stood. Her deep eyes were fixed intently on one person, her gaze as dark and damp as a snake, waiting for a chance to strike in the moonlight.

She watched as the woman slipped a room key card into that person’s collar.

“Tuantuan, go.” She set down the dog in her arms, lightly patting its rear. The golden show dog shed its façade of obedience, barking wildly as it charged straight ahead.

The music was loud, attracting the attention of only those nearby.

Bai Fu’s dog was notoriously aggressive. Why was it let loose?

People quickly backed away, somewhat reassured when they saw the dog seemed to have a target.

Frightened, Xuan Yuchi ran towards a nearby tree. She was terrified of dogs!

She hugged the trunk, ready to scramble up, when she heard a scream behind her.

The dog had bitten the woman’s leg. Blood was everywhere, and the woman fell to the ground, screaming loudly.

“Tuantuan!” Bai Fu pushed aside the bikini-clad woman near her and ran over.

Hearing her owner’s call, the dog instantly released its grip.

“Call an ambulance, quickly,” Bai Fu ordered a servant. She looked up and saw Bian Yunchen in the distance, her expression not good, and walked toward her.

“Why are you here? Didn’t we agree to live our own lives after the marriage?”

Bian Yunchen shifted her gaze from the person in question and said flatly: “Passing by, thought I’d take a look.”

Bai Fu scratched her head, annoyed.

Take a look? What was there to see?

Her marriage to Bian Yunchen hadn’t been made public yet; even people in their circle only knew they were engaged.

Bai Fu: “Fine. If you’re done, please leave quickly.”

“Bai Fu,” Bian Yunchen called out coldly.

Bai Fu flinched, turning to ask: “What is it now?”

Bian Yunchen glanced at the chaotic poolside: “Chenjing Mansion is a valuable property. Don’t stain it.”

What bug had bitten Bian Yunchen? What she did in her own home was none of her business, but knowing that even her mother treated Bian Yunchen with respect, Bai Fu didn’t dare say no.

Deep in the night, Xuan Yuchi stood by the road with a large bag of cash, hailing a taxi.

“C1 District, Dexin Road, Pingjia Mountain Villa.”

The driver waved her off and drove away.

Throughout the night, Xuan Yuchi stopped five or six taxis. Upon hearing the destination was Pingjia Mountain Villa, they all refused the fare.

She wondered, was Pingjia Mountain Villa some kind of inauspicious place? Why did every single one refuse to go there?

It wasn’t until the seventh taxi driver explained that going to Pingjia Mountain Villa from here made it difficult to find a return fare, asking Xuan Yuchi for double the price.

The woman in black activated her phone’s speaker and held it up to Xuan Yuchi.

Hearing that voice, Xuan Yuchi shivered as certain memories flashed.

Apparently, she owed a lot of money to the “Boss” on the phone, and to avoid repaying it, just yesterday she had deliberately tried to seduce the “Boss’s” woman at a bar.

The voice on the phone: “Why aren’t you talking?”

Xuan Yuchi stared at the knife point. The woman in black moved the dagger slightly away.

Xuan Yuchi: “I will pay back the money I owe you. Actually, I’m a wealthy heiress. I ran away from home before as a rebellious phase. Now I’m returning to my family. Paying you back double is no problem.”

“Do you think I’m an idiot who doesn’t do background checks?! Heiress my butt! Your family went bankrupt!”

Xuan Yuchi was forced to the ground. Someone held down her hand, forcing her fingers open, flat against the ground.

Asking others for help was pointless. Xuan Yuchi grabbed a piece of shattered porcelain from the ground, used all her strength to slash at the women, and while screaming for help, she ran toward a wider area.

The woman in black: “Hurry up and chase her! Do you want to be fired for failing to restrain a useless A?!”

Chenjing Mansion was in the city center, yet built in a quiet, secluded spot. It was late at night, and the streets were empty. With her pursuers close behind, Xuan Yuchi frantically took out her phone to call the police.

A black Bentley silently pulled up in front of her. The rear window rolled down.

“Get in.”

The voice was as smooth as fine jade; she knew instantly it belonged to a good person. Xuan Yuchi didn’t even look to see who was inside, yanked the car door open, and dove in.

“Beautiful sister, thank y…” As Xuan Yuchi turned around, she gasped in shock.
