- Chapter 15 - If I Can’t Feel Her Pain For Her
“If it hurts, you’re a puppy.”
Pitian Hospital
It was already the middle of the night. Three ambulances were lined up outside the hospital building, and over a dozen nurses waited at the entrance.
Xuan Yuchi stepped out of the Bentley. The driver closed the door. Bian Yunchen stared at the hospital entrance. Xuan Yuchi followed her gaze and saw the three ambulances.
What major incident happened tonight?
Xuan Yuchi walked over quickly as if the floor was windy beneath her feet, only to see three women being carried out of the ambulances.
Xuan Yuchi asked the nurses in charge one by one: “Sister Nurse, what happened to her?”
Nurse No. 1 said: “She was beaten by her wife after an argument.”
The woman on the stretcher was bruised and swollen, making Xuan Yuchi frown.
Nurse No. 2 said: “Her wife cheated on her, and she was distraught and jumped from the second floor.”
The woman’s face was bloody and unrecognizable, and Xuan Yuchi couldn’t bear to look closely.
Nurse No. 3 said: “She fought with the mistress, and her wife rushed over and cut her.”
The young woman lay prone on the stretcher with a knife still stuck in her back. She was in the best condition, continuously cursing the mistress to a horrible death.
Xuan Yuchi’s fists tightened just watching this.
Xuan Yuchi: [666. If I’m not mistaken, they are all Omegas.]
System: [I didn’t expect this world to be so chaotic already.]
Xuan Yuchi: [How many main quests do I still have incomplete?]
System: [Let me see…]
System: [Scummy Alpha Divorce Quest (Incomplete), Reconcile with Cold Omega Quest (Incomplete), Mysterious Quest (Incomplete).]
Xuan Yuchi: [Wait, what is the Mysterious Quest?]
System: [I am under no obligation to tell you.]
Xuan Yuchi: [Don’t play dumb.]
System: [Sorry! I temporarily do not have the authorization to view it. Host, please note, what I just mentioned were the major quests. To complete the major quests, you must complete the minor quests according to the world’s rules and are not allowed to use other means to achieve them.]
Xuan Yuchi: [So I have to complete those abstract action commands and inexplicable quests of yours, right? Can I get an SVIP pass to skip this part?]
The System’s voice suddenly became Zen-like: [Everything happens for a reason, Host, do not be impatient.]
Xuan Yuchi: [Strong indeed.]
System: [Insulting the System, activating electric shoc—]
Xuan Yuchi: [No! I was praising your strength!]
Xuan Yuchi watched the nurses wheel the injured Omegas inside. She needed to push harder and restore normalcy to this world as soon as possible.
The core of the Scummy Alpha Divorce Quest was to overthrow the Bai family. Only when the Bai family fell could Xuan Yuchi achieve her goal in this world where both the legal system and morality had collapsed.
She took a deep breath. She should have studied law or criminal investigation instead of film directing back then.
“Are you pitying them?”
Xuan Yuchi turned her head and found Bian Yunchen standing right behind her. She didn’t know when she had caught up.
Xuan Yuchi answered honestly: “It is indeed infuriating to watch.”
She then asked suggestively: “Sister Bian, don’t you feel that this world is different from when we were children?”
Bian Yunchen took a step forward, and Xuan Yuchi followed.
Bian Yunshen’s tone was cool as water, gentle yet like a warm stream: “Some things are not for us to decide.”
Xuan Yuchi: “Perhaps we can change them?”
Bian Yunchen stopped. Xuan Yuchi bumped lightly into her back; it didn’t hurt.
Bian Yunchen turned around. She wore a baseball cap and a mask, her expression hidden in the shadows.
“What are you plotting?”
Xuan Yuchi immediately shook her head and smiled: “Nothing, nothing at all.”
Bian Yunchen seemed to sense something, her tone serious: “Some things are more dangerous than you think. Since you’re back, just behave.”
At the blood drawing window on the third floor, Xuan Yuchi felt she couldn’t behave at all right now.
Didn’t she say she was just bringing her for an eye exam…
She knew why Yunchen had brought her for an eye exam late at night for no reason.
Xuan Yuchi pouted like a little duckling, pointing to her still-bruised left arm: “I just had blood drawn at Bai Ci’s place.”
Bian Yunchen: “So Bai Ci tricked you into going there for a physical?”
Xuan Yuchi: “I don’t know what she wanted my blood for either.”
“How long has it been since your last physical?” Bian Yunchen asked her.
That’s true. According to the memories in Xuan Yuchi’s mind, she hadn’t had a physical in the years she was abroad.
She used to have a full physical every six months.
“But it really hurts so much.” Xuan Yuchi was about to cry. Although Bai Yangyang’s technique was good and she didn’t feel much afterward, Xuan Yuchi’s senses seemed magnified now, and her arm suddenly began to ache dully.
The nurse at the blood drawing window smiled sweetly while preparing the equipment: “Little sister, are you ready?”
Bian Yunshen’s phone rang. She picked it up.
“Chairwoman, have you arrived at the hospital? The meeting is about to start.”
Bian Yunchen: “Have them wait a moment.”
“That might not be good… it’s already half an hour late.”
Bian Yunchen hung up the phone, held Xuan Yuchi’s wrist, and led her toward the blood drawing window.
In public, Xuan Yuchi couldn’t throw a tantrum, so she could only keep her voice low and beg with a pained expression: “Sister Bian, dear sister, I’m very healthy! Look, I can jump and run. Let’s come back next time!”
Bian Yunchen pulled a chair over and made Xuan Yuchi sit down. Xuan Yuchi crossed her arms, tightly protecting them.
Bian Yunchen: “It’s not as painful as you think.”
Xuan Yuchi lowered her head, stubborn as a mule: “I don’t believe it.”
Bian Yunchen seemed helpless. She pushed Xuan Yuchi aside, pulled over the chair next to her, sat down, and extended her arm to the nurse.
The nurse understood, took a fresh test tube, disinfected Bian Yunchen’s arm, and tore open the needle packaging.
Xuan Yuchi squinted, watching. The syringe was all plastic, and the needle tip looked about the size of a green bean, making her feel faint.
No way, has the medical technology in this world regressed too?
Is a needle that big meant to kill someone?
Her entire scalp tingled.
The nurse inserted the needle diagonally into Bian Yunchen’s arm. The white plastic quickly turned red, flowing through the soft tube into the test tube.
But… the needle didn’t even seem to go in. How did she do that?
The nurse glanced at Xuan Yuchi and smiled: “Our hospital’s blood drawing equipment is the most advanced in the world, less noticeable than a mosquito bite.”
The nurse removed the syringe without even needing to press cotton on Bian Yunchen’s arm.
Only then did Xuan Yuchi clearly see the true needle, as thin as a strand of hair, stained red with blood.
“Ma’am, would you like to have a check-up done while you’re here?” the nurse asked.
Bian Yunchen: “No need.”
The nurse tossed the tube of blood into the biohazard disposal bin.
Bian Yunchen looked at Xuan Yuchi, her indifferent face unchanged: “Come here.”
If Xuan Yuchi refused again, it would be pretentious, so she reluctantly shuffled over, extended her arm, but was still scared: “Sister Bian, does it really not hurt?”
Bian Yunchen: “If it hurts, you’re a puppy.”
Xuan Yuchi pursed her lips. As the needle approached her, her eyes widened, and she recoiled, only to be held firmly by a pair of long, slender hands.
She was still nervous, still scared!
“Ow, ow, ow!”
Bian Yunchen was cold as ice.
“I’m not drawing blood!” Xuan Yuchi whimpered.
“Woof woof!”
“Woof woof woof!”
Bian Yunchen looked away, a faint layer of shallow amusement surfacing in her eyes.
“It hurts so much, it really hurts so much,” Xuan Yuchi cried out in agony, tightly closing her eyes.
The nurse, who had already thrown the syringe into the waste disposal bin, laughed at Xuan Yuchi’s dramatic performance: “Little sister, the blood has already been drawn.”
Xuan Yuchi abruptly opened her eyes. The syringe was indeed far away from her precious arm.
She let out a sigh of relief and moved her right arm: “It really doesn’t feel like anything, actually.”
“Drama queen,” Bian Yunchen scoffed.
Xuan Yuchi “stood up instantly”: “Emotional pain is also pain, okay? I want to go home!”
Bian Yunchen: “The driver will take you back.”
Xuan Yuchi: “Aren’t you leaving?”
Bian Yunchen didn’t answer her, turning and walking toward the elevator.
Xuan Yuchi originally intended to wait for her, but remembering she had more important things to do, she followed and asked: “Are you feeling unwell?”
Bian Yunchen: “No.”
“Visiting a friend.”
Only then was Xuan Yuchi relieved.
The elevator doors closed, and Xuan Yuchi’s figure completely disappeared. Bian Yunchen pressed the twenty-fifth floor.
A few years ago, she invested in establishing this hospital, and the first thing she did was purchase a batch of brand-new medical equipment. In recent years, the foundation under her name has allocated significant funds for upgrading the blood-drawing equipment.
The equipment used to draw Xuan Yuchi’s blood today was already the thirteenth generation.
Bian Yunchen leaned against the silver elevator rail, suddenly feeling that everything had meaning.
The elevator door opened. She walked straight out, reached the door of the Chairwoman’s office, and entered the code.
“You’ve finally arrived.” Secretary Wen Xin double-checked the remote video conferencing setup.
Bian Yunchen gave a slight nod. Wen Xin connected the meeting.
The silent electronic devices activated, and a grey-blue holographic projection appeared on the conference table.
Wen Xin exited the office, leaving three people inside:
Bian Yunchen, Opposition Party member Laura, and Xuan Weiming.
The Bentley drove on a quiet road. Xuan Yuchi, drowsy, saw the road sign and knew they would arrive soon.
A heavy fog lay ahead. The driver slowed down until a loud crash occurred. Xuan Yuchi was thrown toward the car window, and the car body rolled over.
She lost consciousness.
She woke up in a desolate area, tied to a large tree with several coils of hemp rope.
The woman opposite her was also strange, wearing sunglasses at night. She had short, curly blonde hair, and at first glance, seemed to be a foreigner.
But Xuan Yuchi noticed her eyebrows were also blonde, the same color as her hair, probably dyed.
Xuan Yuchi thought this person was likely an old enemy of the Xuan family, who had been watching her family for a long time and finally had a chance to kidnap her.
“Xuan Yuchi.” The woman suddenly called her name.
“I’m not Xuan Yuchi,” Xuan Yuchi argued. “Didn’t you know? Xuan Yuchi left the country a long time ago.”
Huo Xiaoli sneered, pulled out the “Return” moment Xuan Yuchi had posted abroad, and then showed Xuan Yuchi the photos taken of her and Bian Yunchen traveling together in BALI.
There was no way to deny it now. Xuan Yuchi raised her chin and said firmly: “What do you want?”
The feud her Xuan family had made could probably be solved with money, perhaps just a lot of it.
Huo Xiaoli pulled a knife from the outer pocket of her work pants, held it against Xuan Yuchi’s face, and smiled: “What do you think I want?”
Xuan Yuchi swallowed: “We can negotiate if you have something to discuss.”
Huo Xiaoli’s Bluetooth earpiece flashed. The person far away watched the surveillance footage sent by the drone.
“Xiaoli, talk to her about the main business.”
