I Stole the Male Lead's White Moonlight [Transmigration] - Chapter 4
“Que Hanfu? You mean the youngest professor at our university, Que Hanfu?!” Lu Mengrou asked incredulously.
Zhu Xinya nodded with red-rimmed eyes: “It must be her. Li Heng came to Longcheng University to give a lecture just to see her. I was just an accident.”
Lu Mengrou didn’t know what to say now.
If Li Heng liked another woman, she would definitely help Zhu Xinya beat up that wretched couple without hesitation. But Li Heng liked Que Hanfu! The Que Hanfu with high intelligence! Peerless beauty! Unattainable elegance!
Countless people at Longcheng University liked Que Hanfu, so it seemed perfectly normal that Li Heng liked her too.
Zhu Xinya said: “Li Heng doesn’t like me. I want to break off the engagement.”
“You absolutely should break it off. Li Heng isn’t that remarkable anyway. If it weren’t for your feelings for him, with your family background he wouldn’t be worthy of you.”
Lu Mengrou spoke indignantly. Just as she was about to continue, she suddenly caught sight of an elegant and aloof figure from the corner of her eye, immediately looking embarrassed.
“P-Professor Que, good afternoon.” Lu Mengrou tugged at Zhu Xinya’s sleeve, giving her meaningful looks.
Zhu Xinya’s heart skipped a beat.
Had she summoned the female lead by talking about her behind her back?
Since Li Heng and Que Hanfu weren’t involved yet, it wasn’t right to gossip about her. Zhu Xinya turned around, face slightly flushed, intending to apologize to Que Hanfu. But when she saw Que Hanfu, she was struck speechless by her stunning beauty.
The woman before her was tall with a perfectly proportioned figure, wearing a simple tea-green linen dress. Her tea-colored hair fell in soft, wavy curls around her shoulders. With her pale complexion, light-colored eyes like glass beads, crimson lips, and cool expression, she exuded an icy elegance that seemed unapproachable in the warm spring day. Yet Zhu Xinya’s heart raced uncontrollably.
“Sorry Professor Que, we shouldn’t have been talking about you behind your back.” Lu Mengrou quickly apologized.
Lu Mengrou’s voice brought Zhu Xinya back to her senses. She glanced at Que Hanfu, embarrassed, lowering her eyes before stealing another look.
Was the female lead really this beautiful? Not just beautiful, but radiating an ethereal aura! Even as a girl, she found herself incredibly attracted. No wonder the male lead was so obsessed with her, going so far as to push her into the abyss just to play the savior who could pull her out.
The novel hadn’t described Que Hanfu’s appearance in much detail. The author, lacking vocabulary, had only mentioned a few times that she was beautiful and cold – Li Heng’s white moonlight.
When Zhu Xinya read it, she had scoffed, thinking how beautiful could she really be?
Now she took back those thoughts. Que Hanfu was beautiful enough to captivate her heart!
Seeing Zhu Xinya staring dumbly at Que Hanfu without speaking, Lu Mengrou quickly pulled her sleeve and whispered, “Yaya, apologize quickly.”
“Oh, right, apologize.” Zhu Xinya snapped out of it, putting on what she thought was her most irresistibly cute smile. She took a few steps forward until she stood before Que Hanfu, slightly raising her head to meet that breathtakingly beautiful face. “Professor Que, hello, I’m Zhu Xinya. I’m sorry, I didn’t mean anything bad about you earlier. Please don’t mind it, okay?” Her moist eyes blinked repeatedly.
Que Hanfu’s brow faintly furrowed. “If you didn’t mean anything bad about me, why are you apologizing?”
Zhu Xinya wasn’t the least bit intimidated. Tilting her head, she continued to feign cuteness, “Because I was afraid Professor Que would misunderstand me. I really admire Professor Que and don’t want her to dislike me.”
Que Hanfu averted her gaze, no longer looking at the rosy-cheeked face before her. “I won’t.”
“You won’t dislike me or you won’t misunderstand me?”
“I won’t remember you.” Que Hanfu’s tone was indifferent. After speaking, she turned and walked away.
Zhu Xinya stared at Que Hanfu’s retreating figure, unable to snap out of it for a long time.
“Whew, that scared me to death. Luckily, Que Hanfu didn’t hold it against us. With her influence at the university, just a word from her would have everyone ostracizing us,” Lu Mengrou said, patting her chest.
A dreamy smile spread across Zhu Xinya’s face. “Hanfu is not only beautiful but also kind. She’s truly perfect~”
Listening to Zhu Xinya’s infatuated tone, Lu Mengrou felt goosebumps all over. She said helplessly, “Hey, Zhu Xinya, are you okay? Even if she’s perfect, she’s still a woman. Don’t act like such a lovesick fool, alright?”
“Not alright. What does it matter if she’s a man or a woman?” Zhu Xinya hooked her arm through Lu Mengrou’s and pulled her in the direction Que Hanfu had left. “Li Heng is a man, and a scumbag at that. Compared to him, I’d rather be infatuated with Hanfu.”
“Besides, such a beautiful girl shouldn’t be ruined by that scumbag Li Heng. I want to save her!” Zhu Xinya said seriously to Lu Mengrou.
“Don’t forget that Li Heng is your fiancé right now. Before saving Que Hanfu, how about saving yourself first?” Lu Mengrou felt that Zhu Xinya was acting strangely today. “Where are you dragging me off to now?”
“Of course, to find Hanfu.” Zhu Xinya’s round, deer-like eyes curved into crescent moons as she smiled.
Lu Mengrou: “Let’s not.”
Despite her strong desire to refuse, Lu Mengrou ended up following Zhu Xinya to look for Que Hanfu. However, they only saw Que Hanfu enter the laboratory building and had no idea which lab on which floor she had gone to.
Unlike other professors at Longcheng University, Que Hanfu wasn’t just proficient in one field she had mastered almost all disciplines and was fully capable of teaching students from any major. Her research projects spanned physics, chemistry, biology, mathematics and several had already yielded significant results. Rumor had it she had even started her own company! Her seemingly cheat-code-like life could only inspire awe, leaving no room for envy or jealousy.
Lu Mengrou stopped Zhu Xinya, who was about to knock on every door to search. “Que Hanfu has a class on Monday. We can just look for her then. The lab building has eleven floors, with at least five labs on each. Searching door by door would not only waste time but we might also miss her by the time we check the east side, she might have already left through the west.”
Zhu Xinya sighed dejectedly. “Alright then. Why isn’t today Sunday?”
“I think you’re bewitched,” Lu Mengrou said. “Your most important task right now isn’t finding Que Hanfu, it’s breaking off your engagement with Li Heng.”
Zhu Xinya sighed. “Breaking off the engagement isn’t that simple. I only found out by accident that Li Heng likes Que Hanfu. Usually, he’s extremely considerate and attentive to both me and my parents. Without proof that he likes someone else, my parents would never agree to call off the engagement.”
“Are you getting close to Que Hanfu just to gather evidence?” Lu Mengrou asked in surprise.
Zhu Xinya replied, “Not entirely for gathering evidence.” Mostly, it was because she couldn’t bear the thought of Que Hanfu being mistreated by the scumbag male lead in the future.
Li Heng was only adopted by the Li family when he was twelve, and anyone who paid attention knew he wasn’t biologically related to them. When Li Heng was fifteen, Mrs. Li, who had been childless for years, unexpectedly gave birth to Li Yue in her later years. From then on, Li Heng’s circumstances took a sharp turn for the worse.
Not only was Li Heng neglected at home, but he also began to suffer from bullying at the private elite school he attended.
Those people mocked him, constantly using his status as an adopted child to provoke him, saying he was an orphan, unwanted and unloved, and that his adoptive parents would surely send him back to the orphanage once they had their own biological child.
Enraged by the phrase “sent back to the orphanage,” Li Heng fought back in a fit of anger. But he was outnumbered and ended up being beaten by four or five people, left lying in the grass with a bloodied face, silently crying.
It was at that moment that Que Hanfu appeared before Li Heng and saved him.
Que Hanfu sent him to the infirmary and promptly forgot about the incident, but Li Heng never forgot. On that bleak and despairing afternoon, Que Hanfu had been like a beam of light shining into the darkness of his heart.
And how did Li Heng repay that light?
He ruined her reputation, left her with nowhere to go, and then extended a hand to “save” her.
Zhu Xinya was deeply struck by one line from the novel’s conclusion:
They finally became each other’s light.
