I Stole the Male Lead's White Moonlight [Transmigration] - Chapter 3
After finishing their “romantic” lunch face-to-face, Zhu Xinya and Li Heng, Li Heng suggested going to see a movie.
It was Saturday, and there were no classes at school. Zhu Xinya couldn’t come up with a suitable excuse to refuse him, so she had no choice but to follow him to the cinema on the top floor.
Li Heng went to buy the tickets and asked Zhu Xinya if she wanted popcorn and Coke. Zhu Xinya shook her head and said softly, “No need, I don’t like that kind of food.” Yeah, right!
Just thinking about having to sit next to Li Heng to watch a movie later made Zhu Xinya lose her appetite.
Even though the lunch had been so sumptuous, she had only managed to force down a few bites of salad.
Zhu Xinya held her bag in front of her and used her other hand to rub her uncomfortable stomach. She was super hungry now and really wanted a burger, fries, and Coke. It was all Li Heng’s fault, why did he have to suggest watching a movie?!
As the daughter of the richest man, she actually had to be wary of a mere general manager of some small, insignificant company. The thought alone made her feel miserable.
Just as Li Heng returned with the tickets and Zhu Xinya was about to make an excuse to go to the restroom to avoid him for a while, her phone in her bag suddenly rang.
Zhu Xinya’s eyes lit up. She quickly took out her phone, and when she saw the name “Lu Mengrou” on the screen, her eyes brightened even more.
Trying hard to suppress her excitement, she said to Li Heng, “Mengrou is calling me. It might be something urgent at school.”
Lu Mengrou was Zhu Xinya’s roommate. Their family backgrounds were similar, and they had grown up together, as close as sisters. They had even applied to the same university and the same major because they didn’t want to be separated. Their families had even pulled some strings to ensure they were placed in the same class and the same double dormitory.
Zhu Xinya took a few steps to the side and answered the phone.
“Hey, Mengrou, what’s up?” Zhu Xinya asked in a sweet voice.
On the other end of the line, Lu Mengrou said, “Ah, it’s nothing important. Aren’t you on a date with Li Heng today? How’s it going? Have you kissed yet? Hehehe~”
Zhu Xinya hesitated, glancing at Li Heng, and said with difficulty, “Huh? The advisor needs to see me? But I was just about to watch a movie with Li Heng. Can’t I go to school tomorrow?”
Lu Mengrou was confused: “Yaya, who are you talking to? The advisor is about to give birth, why would she need you? To help deliver the baby???”
“Is it urgent? Really important?” Zhu Xinya’s voice noticeably dropped. “Alright, I’ll talk to Li Heng and head to school right away. Okay, wait for me at the south gate in half an hour. Bye, Mengrou.”
“Wait!” Before Lu Mengrou could process what was happening, Zhu Xinya had already hung up after saying her piece.
“Hello? Yaya? Yaya?” Lu Mengrou frowned at her phone. Zhu Xinya had asked her to wait at the school’s south gate in half an hour, but she was still in bed at home!
She had to hurry up!
As Lu Mengrou rushed to get ready and head to school, Zhu Xinya hung up the phone and walked back to Li Heng, her brow furrowed and her eyes filled with hesitation.
As the considerate fiancé, Li Heng naturally took the initiative to ask.
“Yaya, what did Lu Mengrou call about? Do you need my help?”
Zhu Xinya’s ten slender, onion-like fingers twisted together as she slightly lowered her head, her soft strands of hair veiling her snow-white cheeks. Her pink lips parted faintly as she murmured, “Mengrou said she has something important to discuss and asked me to come to the school immediately.” Having just recalled that her academic advisor was currently on maternity leave at home after hearing Lu Mengrou’s words, Zhu Xinya quickly altered her excuse, claiming it was Lu Mengrou who needed her.
She lifted her head, her clear eyes now misted over with a thin haze, and said dejectedly, “I’m sorry, Li Heng. I have to rush to the school and can’t watch the movie with you.”
Li Heng chuckled softly. “We can watch a movie anytime. Let me take you to the school.”
Zhu Xinya hesitated, “Won’t that be too much trouble for you?”
Li Heng sighed, leaning in closer, which startled Zhu Xinya into taking two hasty steps back, nearly bumping into someone behind her.
“Yaya?” Li Heng remained in his bent position, his brow furrowing slightly. “Are you afraid of me?”
Zhu Xinya shook her head, her face flushing crimson. She glanced at Li Heng before quickly turning away, saying, “There are too many people here.”
So it was shyness.
Li Heng’s smile returned as he straightened up and firmly took her hand. “I’m your fiancé, your future husband. There’s no need to be shy, no matter how many people are around. I’m taking you to Longcheng University, and you’re not allowed to refuse.”
The usually gentle man suddenly revealed a domineering side. If it were the original “Zhu Xinya,” she would have been utterly captivated by Li Heng at this moment, but the current Zhu Xinya only thought to herself how skilled this scumbag was at manipulation, leaving her worried about her own future.
In the end, Li Heng dropped Zhu Xinya off at the south gate of Longcheng University.
Without waiting for Li Heng to get out and open the door for her, Zhu Xinya deftly unbuckled her seatbelt, dashed over to Lu Mengrou who was waiting for her, and while giving her a meaningful look, grabbed her hand and said, “Mengrou, sorry to keep you waiting. Let’s go in right away.”
Lu Mengrou had no idea what Zhu Xinya was up to, but that didn’t stop her from playing along with the act.
By the time Li Heng approached, Lu Mengrou was already putting on an anxious expression, exclaiming to Zhu Xinya, “If you’d been any later, we really would have missed it!”
Well done!
Zhu Xinya cheered inwardly for Lu Mengrou.
“President Li, Yaya and I need to head in now. Thank you for bringing her over. I’ll treat you to a meal sometime,” Lu Mengrou waved at Li Heng, then grabbed Zhu Xinya’s hand and hurried into the school, giving Li Heng no chance to respond.
Oh my god, what an incredible best friend, she totally gets me!
Once they reached a spot where Li Heng could no longer see them, Lu Mengrou glanced back to confirm he wasn’t following, then pulled Zhu Xinya under the shade of a tree.
“What happened between you and Li Heng? Why are you avoiding him?” Lu Mengrou asked, slightly out of breath, releasing Zhu Xinya’s hand to press against her chest.
Zhu Xinya’s face was flushed from running. She blinked her clear, moist eyes and replied, “I’m not avoiding him.”
“Ha! If you’re not avoiding him, I’ll take your last name!” Lu Mengrou didn’t believe a word of it. “You like Li Heng so much you’d stick to him every second if you could. You were with him before coming here, yet you were talking nonsense on the phone, and now you’ve left him to come find me.” Lu Mengrou fixed a determined gaze on Zhu Xinya. “Spill it. Did Li Heng do something to hurt you?”
After hearing Lu Mengrou’s words, Zhu Xinya seemed to recall something and quickly lowered her head to hide her sparkling eyes from view.
Zhu Xinya’s shoulders trembled slightly as she tried hard to redden her eyes. Lifting her head, she said sorrowfully, “Li Heng already has someone he likes. He doesn’t love me at all. If he doesn’t love me, why did he pursue me? Why did he get engaged to me? I love him so much, but there’s only that woman in his heart.” A tear slid down the corner of her eye.
“Yaya, don’t cry. Who is that woman? Does she know Li Heng is your fiancé?” Lu Mengrou asked anxiously.
Zhu Xinya sobbed, “Her name is Que Hanfu.”
Que Hanfu, who happened to be passing by, heard her name being called and stopped in her tracks. Her cool gaze, like a handful of cold snow, fell on Zhu Xinya’s pale, delicate face.
