I Stole the Male Lead's White Moonlight [Transmigration] - Chapter 17
Zhu Xinya woke up early the next morning, and the first thing she did was check her phone.
She wondered if Que Hanfu had listened to that audio recording.
Opening WeChat, Que Hanfu’s first reply, “I know” seemed cold and distant, making Zhu Xinya feel as if Que Hanfu might be angry. But Que Hanfu had agreed to it herself, and Zhu Xinya hadn’t deceived her so why would she be upset?
Feeling a bit stifled, Zhu Xinya lay back on the bed, spacing out for a while before scrolling down to read the rest of the messages.
【Good night, sweet dreams.】Sent just ten minutes after the previous message!
Seeing this, Zhu Xinya’s eyes lit up, and her spirits lifted almost instantly.
She rolled over onto her stomach, resting her chin on the pillow, and eagerly sent Que Hanfu a message.
Zhu Xinya: Good morning, sis~ I really did have sweet dreams last night! Although I can’t remember what they were about, I woke up feeling so happy [spinning around].
After sending the message, Zhu Xinya couldn’t stay in bed any longer. She got up, washed up, changed into sportswear, and headed to the track for a run.
The early spring morning was still a bit chilly, but Zhu Xinya felt warm all over. It was a restless heat spreading from her heart to every limb. If not for the fear of catching a cold, she would have taken off her jacket to cool down the restless warmth inside.
“Hello, Zhu Xinya. I’m Xiang Mingyue from the Economics Department, junior year, Class 4. I’ve noticed you for a while would you like to be friends?”
A gentle male voice suddenly sounded beside Zhu Xinya.
Without stopping, Zhu Xinya glanced over. The boy next to her looked refined and handsome, similar to Li Heng’s type not her type at all.
“Sorry, I’m not interested in making friends.” Zhu Xinya couldn’t even bother to smile at someone she had no interest in.
Xiang Mingyue’s smile turned slightly awkward, a faint blush spreading across his fair cheeks. But he quickly adjusted his expression, matching Zhu Xinya’s sudden increase in pace as he ran alongside her. “What a coincidence, I don’t like making friends either. In three years of college, you’re the first girl I’ve taken the initiative to get to know.”
“Oh,” Zhu Xinya replied indifferently.
Looking at the petite, cute girl beside him, Xiang Mingyue felt a restlessness that made it hard to give up. For the first time in his life, he had felt his heart flutter for a girl. Just seeing her made him feel as if the world was bathed in sunlight, without a single shadow.
“Do you run every day? I don’t usually like exercising this is my first morning run. But running with you makes me feel like exercise can be wonderful too.”
“You missed a few classes recently, and I was worried about you. But since you didn’t know me before, I never had a chance to say so.”
“We’re about to be seniors soon. Do you have any plans for summer internships? My family has connections at Fangyin Group, I can recommend you for an internship at the headquarters.”
Hearing the name of her family’s company, Zhu Xinya finally gave Xiang Mingyue a glance. Thinking she was interested in the internship opportunity, Xiang Mingyue immediately launched into an enthusiastic explanation of how impressive Fangyin Group was, how great it would be to work there, and how an internship might even lead to a permanent position.
After running two kilometers, the hair on Zhu Xinya’s forehead was damp with sweat, strands clinging to her smooth brow.
The sunlight fell on her sweat-dampened face, her fair skin glowing with a golden sheen. Her moist eyes revealed a hint of weariness, and when they half-closed, there was a lazy beauty about her that left Xiang Mingyue standing nearby, utterly captivated.
After Xiang Mingyue had spent the entire walk praising Fangyin Group, Zhu Xinya gave him a smile. Just as hope began to rise in his heart, she patted him on the shoulder and said, “Thank you, but no need.”
With that, she turned and walked away.
Xiang Mingyue stared dazedly at her retreating figure.
After Zhu Xinya left the sports field, three boys gathered around Xiang Mingyue. The tallest of them teased, “Haven’t you looked enough?”
Xiang Mingyue snapped out of his daze and scratched his head sheepishly.
“Mingzi, how’s the progress?” asked the boy with small eyes.
Xiang Mingyue couldn’t help but laugh at the question. “I said I wanted to be friends with her, but she turned me down.”
“Damn! And you’re still laughing? I thought she agreed!” The rough-looking boy couldn’t resist giving Xiang Mingyue a shove, causing him to stumble.
Xiang Mingyue, being good-natured, didn’t get angry and continued, “Then I told her I could help arrange an internship at Fangyin Group for her senior year. She seemed a bit interested.”
The small-eyed boy urged, “And then? Did she agree?”
The tall boy and the rough-looking one also fixed their intense gazes on Xiang Mingyue.
Xiang Mingyue shook his head. “No, she refused. But she smiled at me and said thank you.”
Thinking of Zhu Xinya’s smile, Xiang Mingyue’s heart burned with warmth.
“I believe that as long as I pursue her sincerely, she’ll definitely come to like me.”
Zhu Xinya returned to her dorm and took a shower. Just as she stepped out, her phone rang. Walking over to check, she saw it was Qi Zhou calling.
Holding a comb in one hand and her phone to her ear with the other, Zhu Xinya answered with a smile. “Big star Qi Zhou, how’s it going? Did you get good news yesterday?”
Qi Zhou let out a light hum. “You’re something else. Remember to come to Fengruo Film City at 9 a.m. on Saturday.”
Zhu Xinya paused her combing. “Qi Zhou, can you really decide this? Do I need an audition? I’m fine with that.”
Qi Zhou replied, “What’s there to audition for a role with only three lines? I’m hanging up.”
With that, he ended the call.
In high spirits, Zhu Xinya put down her phone, grabbed a hairdryer to dry her hair, and got ready for class.
On her way, she couldn’t resist sending a WeChat message to Que Hanfu.
Zhu Xinya: Sis, can I go to Fengruo Film City with you tomorrow? I have a small role in Fangting’s Dream too~
Just as she reached the classroom door, Que Hanfu’s reply came, making Zhu Xinya stop in her tracks.
Que Hanfu: Sure.
Zhu Xinya: [Mwah mwah]
Putting away her phone, Zhu Xinya couldn’t suppress the smile on her face.
As she prepared to enter the classroom, she looked up and saw a somewhat familiar-looking boy gazing at her shyly with a smile, as if he had something to say.
Zhu Xinya: “???” Who is this? Why is he looking at me like that??
Xiang Mingyue, seeing the cute girl smiling at him (or so he thought), felt half of his body go weak. Under Zhu Xinya’s puzzled gaze, he couldn’t manage to say a word for a long time.
The rough-looking boy from their dorm couldn’t stand it any longer and pushed Xiang Mingyue aside, speaking bluntly, “Zhu Xinya, are you waiting for our Mingzi?”
“Name? Whose name?” Zhu Xinya looked utterly confused. “You must have mistaken me for someone else. I wasn’t waiting for any name.”
The small-eyed guy squeezed forward, pushing the burly boy aside, and pulled Xiang Mingyue back. Pointing at him, he said to Zhu Xinya, “Xiang Mingyue, Xiang as in direction, Ming as in tomorrow, Yue as in surpass. All the guys in our dorm call him Mingzi. It’s not the name you were thinking of.”
The tall boy, whose height allowed him to show his full face even from behind them, chimed in, “It’s the guy who ran with you on the track this morning, Xiang Mingyue.”
“Oh.” Zhu Xinya nodded. “I remember now.” The boy who had praised the Fangyin Group.
Zhu Xinya never hesitated to smile when she was in a good mood. Her pink lips curved into a cheerful grin as she said, “You’re from Class Four, right? Come on in. We’ll all be good brothers from now on.”
“Good brothers?” Que Hanfu walked over just as the bell rang.
Zhu Xinya was delighted to see her. “Sis, Professor Que! What brings you here?”
Que Hanfu glanced at the four boys who had suddenly stiffened and fallen silent. “Your teacher had something to attend to, so I’m substituting for this class.”
“You can go in first,” Que Hanfu said to the four boys.
After they awkwardly shuffled into the classroom, Que Hanfu turned her gaze to Zhu Xinya, waiting for an answer to her earlier question.
Zhu Xinya stared back at Que Hanfu for a long moment before finally recalling what she had been asked. She quickly replied, “I just think they’re nice guys. Even though they’re not my type, we can still be good brothers.”
Que Hanfu gently patted Zhu Xinya’s head and said softly, “You’re still young. Focus on your studies before graduation and on your career afterward. Don’t rush into dating, it’s a waste of time.”
