I Stole the Male Lead's White Moonlight [Transmigration] - Chapter 10
“I sneezed, I must have caught a cold.” After uttering her first lie, Zhu Xinya found it much easier to continue. “I’ve always been frail since I was young. Now that I’ve been caught in the rain, I’ll probably develop a fever. If I don’t get treated in time, it could turn into pneumonia. Hanfu, you’ll help me, won’t you?”
Zhu Xinya blinked her dewy eyes, gazing pitifully at Que Hanfu as she waited for a response.
To reinforce the illusion of her delicate health, Zhu Xinya pretended her legs were weak, swaying her petite body slightly and pressing a hand to her forehead. “Oh, my head feels so dizzy and painful.”
Que Hanfu: “…” The acting is over the top.
But it was true that Zhu Xinya had been drenched in the rain. Now, standing before her with a look of complete trust, Que Hanfu found it impossible to refuse her.
Que Hanfu sighed, her cool expression tinged with a hint of helplessness. “Let’s go to the infirmary.”
Zhu Xinya blinked her damp lashes, hardly believing what she had just heard.
Que Hanfu! She agreed to go to the infirmary!
“Thank you, thank you,” Zhu Xinya said, remembering to maintain her persona as she offered a pale and fragile expression of gratitude.
Seeing her like this, Que Hanfu swallowed the reprimand that had been on the tip of her tongue.
This little fool looked so pitiful. If she scolded her now, she might burst into tears, and then it would fall to Que Hanfu to comfort her.
On the way to the infirmary, Que Hanfu contacted a lecturer to cover her class. After hanging up, she noticed that Zhu Xinya was standing at least ten centimeters away from her, half her body exposed to the rain without the shelter of the umbrella.
“Come closer,” Que Hanfu said.
Zhu Xinya glanced at Que Hanfu’s dry clothes. “No, no, my clothes are already wet. A little more rain won’t hurt. Your clothes are still dry, I don’t want to get them wet.”
Que Hanfu felt an inexplicable tightness in her chest at Zhu Xinya’s words.
Frowning, she looked at Zhu Xinya’s increasingly pale face, then reached out and pulled her close. To prevent her from trying to escape, she wrapped an arm tightly around Zhu Xinya’s slender waist.
Pressed closely together, Zhu Xinya inevitably dampened Que Hanfu’s clothes.
But she had no time to dwell on that now.
Que Hanfu’s arm was firmly wrapped around her waist. Though the fabric of her rain-soaked clothes felt cold against her skin, Zhu Xinya’s waist seemed to burn with heat, as if a branding iron had been pressed against it. The warmth spread through her limbs, making her blood boil.
The cold wind and rain no longer mattered, she was practically overheating!
“Um, well!” Zhu Xinya’s face flushed crimson.
Que Hanfu shot her a glance, her eyes icy. “Be quiet and walk faster.”
Que Hanfu hadn’t expected Zhu Xinya’s body temperature to rise so quickly.
Her pale little face had turned bright red, her eyes dazed and unfocused. It was clear she was already burning up and disoriented.
Without giving Zhu Xinya a chance to speak, Que Hanfu held her tightly and quickened her pace toward the infirmary.
Longcheng University’s infirmary was comparable to a small hospital. The doctors on duty were experienced professionals hired at high salaries, and the medical equipment was state-of-the-art.
The infirmary had been donated by Zhu Xinya’s parents, Zhu Yin and Fang Fang, after she was admitted to Longcheng University. The couple feared that if their daughter fell ill, even a minor delay in treatment could have serious consequences.
Zhu Xinya had a strong constitution and hadn’t fallen ill once during her three years of university. As far as she could remember, this was her first time visiting the infirmary.
Upon entering, the nurse noticed Zhu Xinya’s clothes were completely soaked and gave her a disapproving look. “You shouldn’t be wearing wet clothes like this. Come with me to change into dry ones before your consultation.”
The nurse led Zhu Xinya into a nearby private room, took a set of patient gowns from the cabinet, and asked, “Do you need help changing?”
Zhu Ya shook her head and replied obediently, “Thank you, nurse.”
The nurse’s heart softened at being called “nurse.” “I’ll go find a hairdryer for you,” she said.
As the nurse turned to leave, Zhu Xinya quickly added, “Could you ask the person who came with me to come in?”
The nurse glanced back and saw Zhu Xinya gently biting her lower lip, her eyes pitiful and innocent.
“Alright.”
Que Hanfu waited outside the room. When the nurse emerged, she said, “Professor Que, the young lady inside is asking for you.”
The nurse didn’t recognize Zhu Xinya as the daughter of the infirmary’s donor, but she knew Que Hanfu, which spoke volumes about Que Hanfu’s status at Longcheng University.
Que Hanfu nodded. “Thank you.”
“You’re welcome,” the nurse replied.
As Que Hanfu pushed the door open, the nurse happened to retrieve the hairdryer from a drawer and handed it to her to bring inside.
Que Hanfu entered the private room, where a pristine white single bed stood. Zhu Xinya remained motionless beside it, her face still flushed with fever.
Que Hanfu walked over, set the hairdryer aside, and asked, “Why haven’t you changed out of your wet clothes?”
Zhu Xinya looked up, her eyes glistening like a lost kitten in the rain. “I don’t have the strength.”
This time, Zhu Xinya wasn’t lying. The inexplicable fever had left her limbs weak, and even removing her wet clothes felt like a monumental task.
“Hanfu, please help me!” Zhu Xinya gently tugged at Que Hanfu’s sleeve.
Yet Que Hanfu felt as though her heart was the one being tugged.
There was no way Que Hanfu would let Zhu Xinya stay in wet clothes. Besides, they were both women helping her change shouldn’t be a big deal.
Zhu Xinya usually preferred wearing shirts and jeans, but today, in high spirits and thinking of Que Hanfu’s fondness for dresses, she had opted for a dress despite the rainy weather.
This actually made things easier for Que Hanfu.
All she needed to do was unzip the back of the dress.
As Que Hanfu moved behind Zhu Xinya and reached for the zipper pull, her fingers accidentally brushed against the skin on Zhu Xinya’s nape.
Zhu Xinya shivered sensitively.
Que Hanfu swiftly pulled the zipper down, her gaze inadvertently catching a glimpse of smooth, pale skin. Without a second thought, she averted her eyes.
What was there to avoid seeing? They were both women.
But Que Hanfu felt as if she’d been burned, afraid to look, as if a single glance would plunge her into an abyss.
Helping Zhu Xinya change should have been a simple task, yet by the time she finished, Que Hanfu was covered in a thin layer of sweat.
The room was stuffy with the door closed sweating was only natural, she told herself.
Picking up the hairdryer, Que Hanfu began drying Zhu Xinya’s hair.
The standard-sized white patient gown hung loosely on Zhu Xinya, who sat on the bed with her back to Que Hanfu, looking small and vulnerable.
As the hairdryer whirred to life, Zhu Xinya flinched and turned her head, saying softly, “Hanfu, I’m afraid it’ll be too hot.”
The little fool, her skin tinged pink all over, resembled prey caught in a trap, pleading for the hunter’s mercy.
Que Hanfu’s eyes grew deeper: “Don’t be afraid, I’ll be careful.” Her cool voice carried a hint of hoarseness.
Slender, pale fingers combed through the damp strands of hair, fingertips gently massaging the scalp. Zhu Xinya couldn’t help but close her eyes, her butterfly-like eyelashes fluttering.
Zhu Xinya had never known that having someone touch her scalp could feel like this. Que Hanfu’s fingertips carried tiny electric currents that seeped through her pores deep into her skin, exploding throughout her body with a tingling, itching sensation.
