I Ran Away After Flirting with the Goddess - Chapter 19
Chapter 19
Su Lin curled her lips into a faint smile. Though she was speaking to An Rongrong, she cast a meaningful look at Shen Lishu. “Beautiful, sweet-voiced, and says the right things no wonder she’s so likable.”
Especially since An Rongrong had those large, dark, bright eyes; when she smiled, they turned into crescent moons. With her bright eyes and white teeth, she was exceptionally good-looking.
This industry was too heavy on utilitarianism; most people’s desires were practically written in their eyes. It was rare to see a newcomer with a gaze as clean and pure as An Rongrong’s.
She didn’t have a “web celebrity” face, she was a fan of Shen Lishu, and her acting had been affirmed by Director Mao. At the very least, she was a “growth stock.” Most importantly, her figure was soft, she could dance—meaning she had her own specialty and her personality wasn’t troublesome.
Looking at it this way, signing An Rongrong was indeed not a losing deal; she was a promising newcomer who could bring profit to the studio.
Shen Lishu had known Su Lin for many years and could tell from her micro-expressions that she was satisfied with An Rongrong. She couldn’t help but raise an eyebrow and show off. “Rongrong is my fan and a very good kid. My vision is pretty good, right?”
Hearing her say this, An Rongrong’s face inexplicably burned. She sat down stiffly and obediently, her back straight and her eyes unsure of where to land. She felt like a girlfriend being brought home to meet the parents.
The popsicle in her hand was nearly melting, but An Rongrong didn’t even dare to eat it directly in front of Sister Su.
“This is the newly drafted contract, take a look.” Su Lin turned the computer screen toward Shen Lishu. “I’ve raised An Rongrong’s profit share to 40%, and all other benefits and treatments have been added according to your standards.”
It could be said that aside from the profit split, An Rongrong would enjoy the exact same benefits and treatment as Shen Lishu.
Su Lin said this intentionally for An Rongrong to hear, wanting to see her reaction.
An Rongrong stared blankly at the silver laptop that had been passed to Shen Lishu’s lap, not quite understanding the meaning behind Sister Su’s words.
What do you mean ‘new contract’? A 40% profit share?!
Although An Rongrong hadn’t signed with other agencies, many had offered olive branches. Among them, the one with the best terms was only willing to give her an 18% share of the income. And that was only because she had just debuted from a girl group and had heat and traffic.
For a newcomer, An Rongrong’s variety show hype had already begun to fade. No matter which agency she signed with, it was impossible for them to give her a 40% share right off the bat, let alone give her benefits according to the standards of a Best Actress.
An Rongrong looked at Shen Lishu beside her, who was sliding her finger across the touchpad and reading the contract seriously. Suddenly, her chest felt as if it were being pulled by a thin thread, giving off a faint, stinging ache.
Her nose felt hot and her eyes grew red. She reached out to tug on Shen Lishu’s sleeve and said softly, “Don’t give me such good treatment. If I don’t make money, you’ll lose out.”
An Rongrong would rather lose out herself than have Shen Lishu lose money on her.
The contract originally shouldn’t have been like this. Sister Su always kept things strictly professional; it was impossible for her to give a newcomer such good treatment out of nowhere. It must have been Shen Lishu who demanded the changes.
“Just give me the lowest standard for a newcomer,” An Rongrong gripped Shen Lishu’s clothes. Seeing her about to sign the contract by hand, her tone became urgent. “I don’t need this much.”
“Where did this little dummy come from, actually complaining about having too much money?” Shen Lishu finished signing and handed the computer back to Su Lin. She reached out and pinched An Rongrong’s fair, pinkish cheek, her tone light with a smile. “You don’t need to worry about the boss’s business. Just accept the money with peace of mind.”
She smoothly took the popsicle from An Rongrong’s hand, stood up to put it in the car’s refrigerator, and took out a bottle of slightly chilled yogurt, handing it to An Rongrong.
An Rongrong looked up at her blankly, her voice sounding nasally as she whispered, “How can you be so good?”
A thousand, ten thousand, a hundred million times better than she had imagined in her heart.
An Rongrong sniffled. She looked down at the cool carton of yogurt in her hands; her heart felt sour and soft, her eyes heating up as a layer of mist covered her vision.
When others wanted to sign her, it was all schemes and calculations. They weren’t even willing to give an extra 1% of the profit. Some even wanted to use every means possible to smear her and leave her with nowhere to go.
Only Shen Lishu wanted to give her the very best.
An Rongrong’s thumb picked at the yogurt carton. Tears welled up in her eyes, and her heart turned incredibly soft. She felt that even if Shen Lishu sold her off in the future, she wouldn’t be able to bring herself to hate her—she’d probably even be willing to help her count the money.
“Still just a child.” Shen Lishu smiled and reached out to ruffle An Rongrong’s hair. “Luckily you fell into my hands. If you had been signed by someone else, they could have sweet-talked you into losing your way with just a few sentences.”
An Rongrong had already lost her way right now.
She took a deep breath, her eyes red as she looked at Shen Lishu and said seriously, “I will work hard to make money. I’ll take ads, variety shows, and TV dramas—I can do it all. I’m not afraid of being tired!”
“You’re not a donkey I bought,” Shen Lishu burst out laughing. She leaned back relaxed into the sofa and said, “While our company doesn’t have a lot of resources, the quality is definitely top-tier. Besides, I’m here to make money too; I won’t exploit and exhaust you so recklessly.”
“Just be yourself with peace of mind. Sister Su will handle everything else,” Shen Lishu took the towel off her head to dry the ends of her hair, speaking softly to the teary-eyed An Rongrong. “Don’t feel pressured.”
Shen Lishu glanced at her and winked. “Besides, Sister has the money to support you.”
Shen Lishu’s studio had more than enough to support An Rongrong it could support ten non-profitable artists and still have plenty left over.
An Rongrong stared at Shen Lishu with a soft whimper, wishing she could offer herself up as a spouse on the spot and snuggle into her embrace.
How can she be so good, so good, so good! Loving Shen Lishu was truly a lifetime deal that would never be a loss!
“Alright, you read the contract too. If there are no problems, sign your name.” Su Lin withdrew her gaze from the two of them and handed the laptop to An Rongrong.
After she finished signing, Su Lin signaled for An Rongrong to go out first; she had something to say to Shen Lishu.
“Tell Director Mao I’ll be there in a moment,” Shen Lishu instructed An Rongrong.
Once An Rongrong had skipped off the car, Su Lin closed the laptop and looked at Shen Lishu.
“So, what do you think? She’s pretty good, right?” Shen Lishu met her gaze, raising her eyebrows with a hint of pride in her tone. The person she chose was definitely the best.
Su Lin didn’t deny it, but she didn’t affirm it either. She only frowned slightly and said, “She seems to have no schemes, and her personality is good, but I’m still curious how she got the resources for Sink.”
Newcomers without a connection simply cannot get an audition for such a role; Shen Lishu knew this better than anyone. For An Rongrong to come out on top among a group of auditioning actors it would be a joke to say it was entirely based on acting. There must have been other means.
At the very least, she wasn’t the “blank sheet of paper” she appeared to be on the surface.
“Don’t trust her too much. As a boss, you can tolerate an employee having a few small secrets, but as something else, you can’t.” Su Lin reminded Shen Lishu, “Maybe An Rongrong isn’t as simple as you think.”
Following Su Lin’s intention, she hoped Shen Lishu would ask An Rongrong directly how she got the role of Luo Yue, to avoid any trouble down the line.
However, Shen Lishu didn’t take Su Lin’s words to heart and only gave a perfunctory response. She finished drying her hair and was about to change clothes, saying casually, “I know what I’m doing.”
Could that little sparrow, An Rongrong, really fly out of the palm of her hand? Shen Lishu didn’t believe it.
“Don’t worry. This is someone I signed. No matter what happens in the future,” Shen Lishu’s wavy long hair hung loosely behind her as she held the door handle to the changing room, turning back with a smile on her red lips. “I’ll cover for her.”
