I Raise My Wife in a Supernatural Story (Infinite) - Chapter 33
Although the administrator had said that, in the end, only Jiang Miao went downstairs to check. Bai Qing, holding the Qi Yan doll, found a spot on the second floor where she could discreetly observe the exit of the roller coaster below.
The plush doll was soft, lightweight, and had a pleasant texture so much so that Bai Qing was almost reluctant to let go. Of course, she wouldn’t let that show.
Qi Yan, on the other hand, was in no such good mood. Sitting in Bai Qing’s arms, she felt restless all over. She stretched her arms, shifted her legs, twisted left and right nothing felt comfortable.
Amused by her fidgeting, Bai Qing glanced down and asked, “Did your doll butt grow nails or something?”
“No!” Qi Yan glared at her with her tiny bead-like eyes. “You try being like this! Sitting isn’t comfortable, standing isn’t comfortable, lying down isn’t comfortable! And I can only be carried by you.”
The last part was muttered so quietly, with a hint of unidentifiable awkwardness, that Bai Qing didn’t catch it and thus didn’t grasp what she meant.
The reason Qi Yan felt so unsettled wasn’t just because she wasn’t used to this soft, small cotton body there was also a small part of it due to being held in Bai Qing’s arms the entire time.
The doll’s body was too small, and the key issue was that despite becoming a doll, she still retained all five human senses. Qi Yan felt entirely enveloped by Bai Qing, the overwhelming fragrance of Bai Qing’s presence constantly filling her nose, the softness against her, the slender yet strong arms supporting her, the warm hand gently resting on her for protection. Every sensation was amplified to the extreme.
Qi Yan felt herself growing feverish. She could feel her head resting against a certain indescribable softness, and the arm cradling her bottom.
With a whimper, she lifted her tiny arms to cover her head. If she thought about it any further, she’d combust.
Bai Qing gave the doll in her arms a puzzled look. “Are you feeling unwell somewhere?”
Qi Yan shook her head, hands still covering her head. “It’s nothing. Don’t mind me just let me cool down.”
Cool down? From what?
Bai Qing didn’t understand her, so she simply let it go and turned her attention to the scene at the roller coaster exit below.
There weren’t many people downstairs, but the commotion was loud. Then again, who could stay calm after seeing all that blood spilled across the ground?
Bai Qing’s gaze followed the still-flowing blood upward, the entire roller coaster was splattered with bloodstains. No, to be precise, it was more like flesh and blood.
The players downstairs were terrified. Jiang Miao hurried over to ask what had happened but only saw three players remaining.
Qi Yan peeked out from Bai Qing’s arms, stretching her short arms to grip the second-floor railing as she craned her neck to look down. “So, much blood. Why are there only three left? Ugh! Did that team lose another one?”
Bai Qing nodded. “Seems like it. It’s not clear what exactly happened yet. Let’s wait for your friend to come back and ask.”
Hearing this, Qi Yan turned to look at her. But the doll’s neck was too short, making it awkward, so she wriggled around until she fully turned herself around.
Bai Qing, afraid she might fall, loosely held her in place and asked, “What’s wrong? So restless.”
Qi Yan stared at her with her tiny bead eyes for a moment before whispering, “Can you maybe not mind me calling people ‘sis’ anymore?”
In such a dangerous place and at such a critical moment, Bai Qing hadn’t expected her to bring up this matter deliberately.
Holding the doll securely in her arms, Bai Qing smirked and countered, “Whether I mind or not, you’re still going to call me that, aren’t you?”
The doll’s little face scrunched up in distress as she explained, “This is just how modern human social interactions work people casually address others as ‘bro’ or ‘sis,’ especially in the workplace. You’ll understand once you see more of it. I’m not trying to trick you.”
Bai Qing remained silent, simply watching her. Just as Qi Yan couldn’t figure out what she was thinking, Bai Qing suddenly lifted the doll with both hands, bringing her up to eye level.
Startled by the sudden movement, Qi Yan flailed her tiny legs in panic. “Hey, what are you doing?!”
“Nothing much. Just taking a closer look at you like this.”
Her beady little eyes blinked in confusion. “W-what’s there to see?”
The fox-eyed beauty before her narrowed her eyes in amusement. “You’re quite adorable!”
Qi Yan’s face instantly flushed, though as a doll, it wasn’t visible only she could feel the heat rising in her cheeks.
“What’s so adorable about this?! Stinky fox, put me down! I don’t want you holding me anymore! You’re always teasing me!”
No matter how much the tiny cloth doll struggled, it was useless. Once Bai Qing had her fill of teasing, she obediently tucked her back into her arms and said, “After we get out of here, take me around the real world more. I’ve been sealed away for over a century and have grown out of touch with the society you speak of. Seems I need to catch up and broaden my horizons.”
She had said all this in one breath, never directly answering Qi Yan’s question, but Qi Yan knew she had already responded. This stinky fox had such a prickly personality, always throwing in a sarcastic remark or two. How could someone like this even be the Demon King? Back when she ruled, her subordinates must’ve been too scared to even be friends with her!
Qi Yan couldn’t help but grumble inwardly for a long while.
“It’s all because of him!! All because of him!! That’s why Xingyun died!! And in such a horrible way!!”
While the atmosphere upstairs was pleasant, a shrill scream suddenly erupted from downstairs. Qi Yan froze, then quickly turned and leaped onto the railing to peer below.
Her abrupt jump from Bai Qing’s arms gave the latter a fright, and she immediately reached out to steady her, afraid the tiny doll might lose her grip and fall.
“They’re fighting down there!” Qi Yan, now safely back in Bai Qing’s hold, craned her neck to look. “Only two members are left from that five-person team. The two women are arguing with the captain. Hmm, let me see Sanshui-jie is pretending to mediate but actually egging them on.”
“Pretending to mediate?”
“Yeah, yeah.” Qi Yan nodded vigorously. “She looks like she’s trying to stop the two women, but she’s not putting any real effort into it clearly just stirring the pot. Whoa! They’re throwing punches now!”
Bai Qing’s curiosity piqued, and she leaned over to glance downstairs as well.
The woman in sportswear swung a fist straight at Captain Wushuang. Though he dodged, the sheer force of the punch grazed his face.
“You crazy bitch!”
The last three members of the five-person team instantly turned on each other like scattered sand, while the other woman, Qiuqiu, stood silently to the side.
The fight grew increasingly violent, escalating to the point where they even pulled out weapons, each strike now aimed at lethal spots.
Xinyi launched a fierce offensive, each strike vicious, shouting as she attacked, “It was you! You undid the lucky seatbelt! You killed him!”
Wushuang blocked Xinyi’s blows, her eyes dark with fury. “I killed him? So what were we supposed to do, then? Die together? Did you not hear a single word those three little ghosts said? Can you think of a way for all of us to survive?!”
The two fought and argued, the commotion so loud that Qi Yan and Bai Qing on the second floor could roughly make out what was happening.
“It seems like, just like the other attractions, the three ghosts gave them a dilemma on the roller coaster. We just don’t know the specifics something that forced Wushuang to coldly sacrifice a teammate.”
“We can ask Miss Jiang when she returns,” Bai Qing said sharply, scanning the area. “Those three ghosts are nowhere to be seen.”
The roller coaster area was in complete chaos, blood splattered everywhere as if an entire person had been drained dry.
Qi Yan’s beady little eyes stared at the roller coaster for a long moment before she patted Bai Qing’s hand and asked, “Can we go check the roller coaster? If you don’t want others to see you, they won’t, right?”
Indeed, as long as Bai Qing wished to conceal her presence, no one could detect her.
But the problem was, she was holding Qi Yan. She looked down at the doll in her arms. “If I take you up there, it might draw attention. My current spiritual power isn’t enough to hide you as well.”
“Hmm, then what if you put me down and go take a look yourself?”
Bai Qing immediately frowned. “Leaving you alone here is too dangerous. I won’t allow it.”
“But—”
“No buts. I refuse.” Bai Qing’s tone was firm, cutting Qi Yan off. “Qi Yan, you are important to me. I won’t let you take unnecessary risks. Remember that.”
Qi Yan was taken aback by her sternness, then realized, the bond between them was indeed crucial to each other. It might not be deep affection, but the spiritual contract tied them together, inseparable. Neither could exist without the other.
“Then we—”
“It’s fine. Miss Jiang should be back soon. You can ask her then, or we’ll check the roller coaster together later.”
Qi Yan followed Bai Qing’s gaze back downstairs and saw that Wushuang and Xinyi, who had been locked in combat earlier, had stopped fighting. They now stood apart, ignoring each other, while Jiang Miao stood between them, speaking quietly.
The voices downstairs were hushed now, everyone seemingly calmed down enough to talk rationally. From the second floor, their words were inaudible.
Qi Yan watched closely and noticed that after Jiang Miao said something, the other three seemed shocked, then thoughtful, their expressions eventually turning complicated.
The distance was too great, and Qi Yan’s doll eyes couldn’t make out the details clearly. Her tiny eyes widened in frustration.
Bai Qing, hearing her thoughts, spoke up. “Miss Jiang is inviting them to form a team.”
“Ah?” Qi Yan blinked, stunned. “What? A team?!”
Bai Qing nodded. “Yes. Just like with you, a temporary alliance. Once we leave this script, we’ll go our separate ways.”
Qi Yan was stunned. To be honest, she really didn’t like Wushuang. Even though their interactions had been minimal, her intuition told her that this man was no good dangerous, even. It was best to avoid any unnecessary contact with him.
Now, hearing that Jiang Miao had proposed teaming up with him, she found it hard to accept.
But her mind worked quickly. No matter how much she resisted the idea internally, she swiftly grasped Jiang Miao’s reasoning.
“It seems those three must have already gotten the roller coaster stamp. Teaming up with them means we automatically get that stamp without having to risk going through it ourselves.”
Qi Yan’s doll-like face twisted with complicated emotions as she glanced up at the roller coaster. Blood was still dripping from it, pooling into a crimson puddle on the ground below.
The man named Lucky from Wushuang’s team had probably died horribly so horribly that Jiang Miao wasn’t even willing to attempt the ride, opting instead to cooperate with someone she had been wary of from the start.
