I Quit Being This Female Lead (GL) - Chapter 54
Occasional leisure time is immensely pleasant for everyone.
Especially for someone like Mang Ke, who might leave at any moment, it felt like the company’s annual leave was fast approaching.
Before going to sleep that night, Mang Ke stood in front of the wall calendar in the living room, deep in thought with a marker pen in hand.
After a long period of contemplation, she drew an ‘X’ on today’s date.
There were only a few days left until the two-month period was over.
Mang Ke chewed on the marker cap, pondering. She didn’t know if she would meet Jia Yun when she went back, and how would Jia Yun take her away as promised?
Also, what would happen to Xun Fangyun in the book after she left?
All of this worried Mang Ke.
Looking at the two full lines of ‘X’s on the calendar, Mang Ke took the cap out of her mouth, clicked it onto the marker, and placed it casually on the nearby shelf.
The moment Mang Ke put the pen down, an orange shadow suddenly shot out. A flick of a little white paw, and the marker pen rolled onto the floor.
“Ah!” Mang Ke yelled, “You little rascal!”
The cat realized it had caused trouble, twisted its bottom, and scampered away, hiding behind the sofa.
Mang Ke was about to roll up her sleeves and go over to teach it a lesson when Xun Fangyun walked down from the second floor and asked, seeing Mang Ke, “Have you finished showering?”
“I’ve finished.” Mang Ke knelt on the sofa, peering through the gap: “I’ll be up in a moment.”
She seemed to have found the rogue’s tail. Just as Mang Ke was about to pull, she felt a sharp pain in her hand!
“Aah aah aah—”
Mang Ke withdrew her hand, and a cat was clinging to it.
“It bit me, it bit me!”
The little creature let go the instant it came out and dashed away with a kick of its legs.
Mang Ke looked at the two small, sharp tooth marks on the web of her hand, her eyes stinging. She looked up at Xun Fangyun to complain, “Your cat bit me, wuwuwuwu…”
Xun Fangyun: “…”
Although Mang Ke looked comical hugging her and crying, she was also very cute.
Xun Fangyun couldn’t help but smile. She walked over, bent down, and examined the wound on her hand. Fortunately, the cat was small, just a kitten of a few months, so the bite wasn’t deep.
“I won’t get rabies, will I?” Mang Ke took the opportunity to throw herself into Xun Fangyun’s arms, crying, “If I die, I won’t be able to see you, wuwuwuwu.”
“It’s okay,” Xun Fangyun stroked Mang Ke’s head, comforting her. “If you’re worried, I can take you to get vaccinated.”
Mang Ke lifted her head from Xun Fangyun’s chest: “Never mind. I’ll be going back soon anyway. The vaccine here won’t be much use.”
Xun Fangyun heard this and seemed slightly disappointed.
That’s right. Mang Ke would be going back soon.
Xun Fangyun stroked Mang Ke’s cheek, saying reluctantly, “Take good care of yourself when you go back.”
Mang Ke felt a pang of sadness: “That’s what I should be saying to you.”
She at least had friends there, but Xun Fangyun had nothing here, not even a living person to rely on.
“Why don’t we go traveling~” Mang Ke suggested. “The scenery here is so lovely. We could go out and have fun.”
Xun Fangyun shook her head: “There are air walls everywhere outside this city. We can’t cross them.”
Mang Ke: “…Oh.”
Air walls? That’s a bit too realistic, isn’t it?
“Then should we try dating?” Mang Ke suggested. “We’ve known each other for so long, always rushing to meet and rushing to leave. We haven’t had a proper date like normal people.”
Xun Fangyun had no objection and nodded with a smile: “What would you like to do?”
Mang Ke was silent for a moment: “I don’t know. I’ve never been in a relationship.”
Xun Fangyun pondered, then asked, “Then am I your first love?”
“…” Mang Ke’s ears turned red: “What’s all this about first love? That sounds strange.”
“I don’t find it strange at all,” Xun Fangyun pinched Mang Ke’s chin, lowered her head, and asked, “If it is, what’s there to be shy about?”
Mang Ke looked away, reaching out to push her: “You haven’t said if you are mine.”
Xun Fangyun didn’t even have to think: “Of course I am.”
Mang Ke: “…”
Her face got even redder.
Although Xun Fangyun was forced to be a ‘Player,’ in her memory, she had only ever loved Mang Ke all these years, so she counted it as a first love, too.
Xun Fangyun pulled her up from the sofa, looked at the two small tooth marks on her hand, and lowered her head to kiss them.
The soft lips touching the wound felt slightly numb and very ticklish.
Mang Ke watched her actions with a red face, lost in thought for a moment.
Even in her pajamas, Xun Fangyun was still beautiful. Mang Ke was staring at her intently until Xun Fangyun reached out and gently pinched her nose, bringing her back to her senses.
“Mmm…” Mang Ke grimaced: “Your habit of always pinching people is not a good one.”
Xun Fangyun couldn’t help but chuckle: “If you weren’t spacing out, I wouldn’t pinch you so often.”
She scooped the person up from the sofa, took Mang Ke’s hand, and said, “Let’s go to sleep first. Tomorrow, let’s go watch a movie.”
“Okay~” Mang Ke said happily. “I’ve never watched a movie here before. I wonder what they show.”
“Actually, I haven’t either.”
“Perfect. I’ll see what’s playing.”
Watching Mang Ke pull out her phone and start browsing for group deals, Xun Fangyun couldn’t help but curve her lips. She felt that these small, everyday moments were incredibly comfortable. Even though they were repetitive, she always found a sense of novelty in them.
She looked back at Mang Ke. It was just a small matter, but the girl was approaching it with such seriousness.
How could Xun Fangyun not love her?
“Watch your step,” Xun Fangyun tightened her grip on Mang Ke’s hand and said, “Look at your phone once we get into bed.”
“Okay~”
Ultimately, Mang Ke chose a movie that sounded decent, about a boy who runs away from home.
Mang Ke woke up early the next day, went to the bun shop across the street from the complex to buy guantangbao (soup dumplings), and then went to the nearby market to buy two xianbing (stuffed flatbreads). Going out in the morning sun felt quite nice.
When she returned home, Xun Fangyun had already warmed up soy milk. She couldn’t cook, but she could warm up soy milk.
The two ate breakfast and played around the house for a bit, knowing that the movie wouldn’t start that early.
The movie theater was sparsely populated at 10:00 AM. Mang Ke, holding a large box of popcorn, searched for their seats along the chair backs.
“Here, here!”
Mang Ke pointed to two adjacent seats: “Here, in the very corner!”
A few people nearby turned their heads to look at them, then quickly turned back.
Mang Ke felt her voice might have been too loud. She reached out and pulled Xun Fangyun’s sleeve, carefully sitting down.
“You eat this,” Mang Ke offered the popcorn to Xun Fangyun with both hands: “It’s butter flavored. I asked for extra.”
Xun Fangyun held two cups of Coke, placing one in the cup holder of the armrest and handing the other to Mang Ke.
“Iced Coke,” Xun Fangyun said. “Drink slowly.”
After exchanging the popcorn and Coke, Mang Ke happily sipped her Coke: “I think iced is the only way to drink it.”
“Even so, drink slowly,” Xun Fangyun said, picking up a piece of popcorn and putting it in her mouth.
The popcorn, with the extra seasoning, was indeed very sweet and full of butter flavor, and the white sesame seeds stuck to it made it exceptionally fragrant when chewed.
After a few bites, Xun Fangyun noticed Mang Ke was still drinking Coke and couldn’t help but say to her, “Don’t drink so fast. Have some of this.”
Saying this, she offered the popcorn in her hand to Mang Ke’s mouth.
Mang Ke released the straw, opened her mouth, and took the popcorn Xun Fangyun offered.
Xun Fangyun felt her finger touch Mang Ke’s soft lips, but the girl was completely oblivious. Chewing, she said, “One isn’t enough. Give me two more!”
Having no choice, Xun Fangyun took two more pieces and put them into her mouth.
Intentionally or unintentionally, Xun Fangyun’s fingers kept touching Mang Ke’s soft lips. That ticklish feeling lingered in her heart.
After a few more bites of popcorn, all the lights in the cinema went dark.
Mang Ke looked at the screen and said to Xun Fangyun, “It’s starting. They’re playing the commercials!”
The words were barely out when she felt something approaching in the darkness. Before Mang Ke could react, she felt her lips being pressed by a thumb.
“You’ve been teasing me for a while now,” Xun Fangyun whispered close to Mang Ke’s ear. “Are you challenging my self-control?”
Mang Ke dared not move and said, blushing, “There are cameras in the cinema.”
“What does that matter?” Xun Fangyun lifted her chin and chuckled softly, “It’s not illegal to kiss your girlfriend.”
With that, Mang Ke felt something draw closer in the darkness, followed by the soft touch on her lips and a kiss tasting of butter and cream.
Mang Ke’s ears were completely red. She finally understood why some people liked dating in movie theaters. This dark environment easily fostered feelings, especially when the person she loved was sitting right beside her.
Xun Fangyun’s hand was still cupping her face, and her tongue, carrying the creamy flavor, brushed past her teeth, leaving only a numbing sensation.
Mang Ke’s breathing was heavy, and her waist began to soften. If she weren’t sitting in the chair, she might have already collapsed to her knees.
“Alright, let’s watch the movie.”
Xun Fangyun licked her lips, looking at Mang Ke, who was flushed and attractive in the darkness. She felt that if she kissed her any longer, she might lose control.
The movie had already started, with colorful transitions flickering across their eyes.
Mang Ke leaned back against the chair, holding her Coke but unable to drink it.
Her lips were so numb.
Her tongue was so numb.
Mang Ke bit the straw, nervously pulling her head down.
She reached out, grabbed a handful of popcorn, and stuffed it into her mouth, puffing out her cheeks to relieve the numbness.
But the familiar taste of the popcorn made Mang Ke blush even more. The sensation felt like having Xun Fangyun in her mouth; the flavors were so similar…
Mang Ke was distracted throughout the entire movie. Although the actors were excellent, her mind was fixated only on the butter-flavored popcorn.
In the end, neither the Coke nor the popcorn was finished, left behind in the cinema.
“Where should we go next?” Xun Fangyun held Mang Ke’s hand as they walked down the cinema aisle. “Is there anywhere you want to go?”
Mang Ke thought for a moment and said, “Let’s go to the amusement park. I want to ride the carousel.”
“Isn’t that for children?”
“Exactly. It’s for children, which is why I want to try it. Doing it alone is silly, but doing it together is fun~”
Xun Fangyun glanced at her: “Fun what?”
Mang Ke suddenly realized and jumped, “Don’t say it! Shut up!”
Which only caused the other person to suppress a burst of laughter.
