I Need To Find A Way To Make Her Love Me Again - Chapter 57
The woman’s sudden laughter sent a momentary chill down Jiang Yueren’s spine. His intuition screamed that he should stop interacting with her, but seeing her truly about to leave and considering this place was a desolate wilderness, he couldn’t afford to care whether she was good or evil. He had finally encountered a living soul. He hurriedly called out, “Lady, please stay your hand!”
Watching her look down at him from above, his mind was a mess of nerves. However, to get himself out of the ground, he spoke with a tone that was both helpless and cautionary: “This matter has vast implications. I ask that once you have heard it, you set it aside and forget it.”
Wei Yao retracted her outspread foot and crossed her arms, listening to see what “novelty” this man in the dirt could produce.
“Lady, I am the Young Sect Master of Mount Yuanming. This region belongs to the territory of the Jade Ripples Palace. Due to the palace’s overnight destruction, tens of millions of living beings vanished here or turned into evil spirits.”
“Responding to the pleas of the common people and seeking to bring peace to the region, I came here specifically to perform rites for the deceased and transcend these spirits.”
“However, I never expected to discover that someone is breeding demonic beasts here. They have divided the corpses into three paths to chaos the souls of the living, training them with commands to obey her every whim.”
“This is a violation of the laws of heaven and humanity. I intended to investigate further to see who was causing this calamity, but I was unexpectedly detected by the culprit, who immediately vanished without a trace.”
“Fortunately, I tracked them to Mount Qingding and pursued them there.”
“After many days of investigation, I discovered that this matter is inextricably linked to Mount Qingding.”
“Digging deeper, I found that more than one person is breeding these beasts; even people from my own Mount Yuanming are involved.”
At this point, Jiang Yueren’s expression turned ugly. The next words were difficult to utter, but seeing her listening with great interest, he sighed and continued: “My movements were discovered by my elder brother, who warned me not to pursue the matter. But I could not accept that my upright and honorable brother would be involved in such a filthy business. I wanted the truth.”
“So, behind my brother’s back, I continued my secret investigation. The further I went, the more I realized this wasn’t just about breeding beasts.”
“Someone wants to create a ‘Heretical Path’ to reach the Heavenly Realm.”
Jiang Yueren’s gaze darkened, his voice tinged with anger: “Shameless, contemptible scoundrels, trying to take a shortcut through demonic ways.”
“Treating the cultivators who respected and honored them like ants to be crushed and killed to feed human parasites… Xu Xiping is unworthy of being a Sect Master.”
“Now, they are even tricking disciples into occupying the vacant Jade Ripples Palace to release all the human parasites here and bring chaos to the local people.”
“Unfortunately, I was outnumbered and captured, trapped here.”
“Many days have passed. According to the plans of these despicable people, they will release the parasites very soon. I must go and stop them.”
“I hope you will save me, Lady. I will surely repay your kindness.”
Upon hearing this, Wei Yao let out an “Oh.” She tapped her fingers lightly against her arm and asked, “Since you discovered such a massive secret, why were you merely trapped here?”
“If it were me…” Wei Yao raised her hand and made a slicing motion across her throat, her eyes filled with intense scrutiny.
Jiang Yueren naturally understood the unspoken implication. After thinking it over, he figured since he’d already told her everything else, there was no harm in this: “Because my brother intervened. They only spared my life out of respect for him.”
Wei Yao asked with a faint, mocking smile, “Then won’t your escape mean sacrificing your family for the greater good?”
Stung by her words hitting his hidden worry, Jiang Yueren fell silent for a long moment before replying, “My brother is only covering their tracks, he is not a participant in this.”
“Even if he is, I will investigate thoroughly and handle it through the righteous path.”
Wei Yao laughed at this, flipped her hand, and struck him. She broke the hidden barrier placed there, and Jiang Yueren immediately felt the pressure lift. His spiritual power gradually returned, and with a forceful kick, he flew out from the ground.
As he stretched his limbs, he turned to thank her for her help, only to find that the girl who was just before him had vanished in an instant.
“Where are you going?”
Yi Rong watched Wei Yao darting around using her body, and a bad premonition suddenly bubbled up in her heart.
“Didn’t you hear what that man just said?”
“Someone wants to use the demonic path to reach the Heavenly Realm.”
“Heavens, that’s something no one dared to do in the past. These juniors are truly formidable, causing such a massive commotion.”
“I simply must go and see it for myself.”
Though Wei Yao said this, she was already heading towards the Jade Ripples Palace. Her movements were agile, intentionally avoiding prying eyes, making it impossible for others to track her.
Before them, gusts of sinister wind howled. Behind the crumbling ruins, a dense fog loomed, clearly a veil for something hidden. Yet, Wei Yao strolled into the mist with a leisurely air, as if taking a casual walk through a garden.
The assault of demonic and malevolent energy felt intimately familiar to her. While she didn’t particularly care for the hideous appearance of the “human parasites,” she found the ambition of these youngsters quite intriguing.
With that thought, a slender tentacle extended from her palm. As it sucked in the pervasive demonic energy within the fog, it grew larger and larger, eventually rooting itself downward. From thin air, a jellyfish several meters tall manifested, its tentacles burrowing deep into the earth.
Witnessing this, Yi Rong guessed what she intended to do and screamed, “Are you crazy?!”
“You can’t do this! Stop it now!”
Wei Yao turned a deaf ear to the voice shouting inside her body. She turned around and leaned back, the head of the jellyfish, sprawled across the ground like a massive cushion, caught her steadily.
Her keen senses tracked the flow of demonic energy in the air as it suddenly unified, surging toward her. One after another, the sounds of cracking earth and shattering stone rang out like warning bells to the outside world. Sensing a multitude of people rushing toward her location, a wicked smile curled onto her lips.
“Wow, so many people!”
In the distance, Jiaoyu who was smoothing the corners of Guan Fei’s clothes, suddenly paused. Her slender brows knit together slightly as if sensing something, she turned to the window and gazed toward the horizon.
Guan Fei leaned closer and asked in a low voice, “What is it?”
Jiaoyu extended her divine sense, a complex look flashing in her eyes. She looked at the woman beside her, who had only been recuperating for a few days. Though she felt conflicted, after a moment’s consideration, she revealed what she had detected.
“Something has come out.”
“What is it?” Guan Fei asked.
“The human parasites.”
The atmosphere between them turned heavy. Guan Fei turned her head toward the sky outside, though she was blind, she could almost envision the dark clouds gathering and the malevolent spirits surging forth to slaughter every living thing.
A shudder ran through her heart. She said, “The parasites cannot enter the city. The people here are defenseless, they won’t be able to withstand them.”
“Yan Xingyu and the others haven’t returned yet,” Jiaoyu noted. “How are you going to stop these parasites alone?”
Guan Fei pursed her lips in silence. As if struck by a thought, she conjured a budding white plum blossom at her fingertips. Sensing the other’s gaze, she turned her hand, the petals of the white plum slowly drooped, revealing a Seven Colored Spirit Crystal encased within.
“The Wind Spirit Crystal carries the essence of Heaven and Earth,” she said. “It can act as the river of a hundred miles, it can temporarily protect the lives of the people in the city.”
“You’re going to set a barrier?” Jiaoyu asked.
“Yes.”
Hearing the resolute answer, Jiaoyu shifted her gaze to the bustling crowds in the streets below. “There are so many people… will they listen to you?”
“Regardless, I must try,” Guan Fei said, turning to head out. Jiaoyu followed closely behind as Guan Fei’s voice drifted back to her.
“The disasters caused by the unworthy should not fall upon the innocent commoners.”
“Yuyu, I’m sorry to drag you into this hardship with me. But no matter the cause or consequence, I cannot sit by and watch.”
Jiaoyu felt a pang in her heart, but she merely replied, “Stop talking nonsense and let’s go.”
Guan Fei walked ahead, her heavy heart suddenly lifted by the other’s reaction. Knowing that Jiaoyu was someone who was “tough on the outside but soft on the inside,” she couldn’t help but smile. She stopped in her tracks, turned around, and accurately grasped the other woman’s arms.
Jiaoyu was stunned by the sudden gesture.
Then, she felt the other’s warm lips press against her forehead. She subconsciously tilted her head back, accepting the outpouring of love.
An odd sensation stirred within her, she was actually anxious, but she didn’t dare show it. These past few days, she had ached for the injuries Guan Fei suffered and the pain she hid. She knew Guan Fei was a strong woman who always pretended everything was fine. She didn’t know how to help her, so she could only stay by her side.
Jiaoyu felt a trace of bitterness, but she quickly suppressed it. She reached out to embrace Guan Fei, affectionately rubbing against her neck. “I will protect you, too.”
Guan Fei loathed to leave this moment of tenderness, holding her for a long while before replying, “I know.”
Her arms tightened around the other woman. She knew the time left for them to be together was running out.
Fucheng remained a hive of activity. The shouts of vendors filled the air, and the bustling pedestrians could never have imagined the chaos about to erupt in the lively market.
Guan Fei appeared at the city gates. She couldn’t see the crowd, but she could hear the laughter and noise. With her thoughts racing, she shouted, “Citizens! Demons are about to emerge! Please return to your homes immediately, bolt your doors and windows, and do not come out!”
She used her spiritual energy to amplify her voice, ensuring everyone heard her. The crowd stopped what they were doing and looked toward the source of the sound, seeing a woman in green with a cold, refined aura.
Most people laughed it off. “Lady, why would you say such things out of the blue? If demons were truly appearing, the cultivators of the Three Great Families would have warned us. Why is there no movement?”
“Don’t talk nonsense, Lady. Besides, since you have trouble with your eyes, you shouldn’t wander around, or you might trip.”
“Hahaha, exactly! Go home and get some rest!”
Seeing the crowd’s reaction, Jiaoyu’s face instantly darkened. She stepped forward, wanting to find the people who were mocking Guan Fei, but felt a hand reach out to stop her.
Suddenly, a storm rose from the level ground. It was as if countless invisible hands had randomly seized the waists of passersby, plucking them from the earth and flinging them into the air.
The bewildered crowd looked at one another in shock. Amidst the rising screams, a cold, feminine voice rang in their ears once more:
“Those who are unwilling to go back can leave their lives here instead.”
