I Need To Find A Way To Make Her Love Me Again - Chapter 22
Watching the small fish swimming between them, Yan Xingyu reached out her hand to try and touch it. In the next instant, the little fish swam directly onto her fingers.
Wagging its tail, it transformed into a plain ring, coming to rest on her ring finger.
Yan Xingyu stared in a daze, feeling as if a small fish had swum into her heart as well, wagging its tail and making her heart itch with a strange sensation.
For some reason, a question popped into her mind, and she asked, “Is this for Yan Rou, or for me?”
Hearing this, Yi Rong looked puzzled and frowned as she replied, “You.”
Upon hearing the answer, the corners of Yan Xingyu’s mouth couldn’t help but curl up. She smiled and said, “Then I shall accept it without ceremony.”
Yi Rong hummed in response, noticing something in the other’s hair. She said, “Don’t move.”
Yan Xingyu watched as the woman lowered her head and leaned in close. Yi Rong was naturally exquisite and a head taller than her, as her face gradually enlarged before Yan Xingyu’s eyes, it made her heart pound wildly.
She truly did not dare to move.
Yi Rong bent down, moving her head toward the back of the other’s neck, inspecting it carefully. She found a small paper man clipped to the ends of Yan Xingyu’s hair.
She reached out to take it, noting that its hand was pointing persistently in one direction. “A Thousand Lead Charm? How did you get this?”
“Ah?”
Yan Xingyu watched as Yi Rong pulled the small paper man from between her fingers. “Oh, that was given to me by Young Sect Master Jiang. Originally, I was supposed to rely on it to get to Wang Family Village, but then my friend found me, so we came here to Mount Changyan instead.”
“I thought it had fallen off. I didn’t expect it to still be there.”
Yi Rong said, “It won’t lose its efficacy until it reaches its destination. But this is for the best.”
As she spoke, she tampered with the original destination set in the paper man. She watched as the direction its finger pointed shifted to a new location.
She said, “We can leave now.”
With that, Yi Rong turned and followed the direction pointed by the paper man. After walking a certain distance, she realized the person behind her was still standing still. Puzzled, she asked, “Why aren’t you moving?”
Yan Xingyu saw only the firm determination in the other’s eyes to lead her out. She pursed her lips, gave an “Oh,” and responded, “I’m coming.”
The clever part of Bai Weiwei’s barrier was that no matter how you walked or how far you went, the scene before your eyes would not change, it was as if the room extended continuously with your footsteps.
Under such circumstances, it was very difficult to find the correct path out. However, now that they had a “cheat code,” they only needed to follow the direction of the paper man and walk forward.
Following behind Yi Rong, Yan Xingyu wanted to chat about something, but she was afraid of poking at the other’s painful memories, so she remained silent.
Yi Rong caught a glimpse of her following moodily, looking as though she suddenly had something on her mind. She asked, “What’s wrong? Are you feeling unwell?”
“No, I’m fine.”
“That’s good.”
After the brief dialogue, the two fell silent again. After walking a long way and seeing they hadn’t reached the exit, Yi Rong had a change of heart and asked, “Where are you originally from?”
Yan Xingyu belatedly realized that the other woman also wanted to talk to her. She said, “If I said I was from another world, would you believe me?”
Yi Rong paused for a moment but continued walking. “I believe you.”
Yan Xingyu felt the tone didn’t sound fake and wondered how this person believed her so quickly. She asked, “Why do you believe me?”
Yi Rong replied, “Because someone once told me that no matter what skin a being chooses, it is only to experience a different journey. When she sheds that skin, it is the start of a new journey.”
“So, you have simply shed your previous skin and come here.”
“Was your previous journey a happy one?”
Hearing this, Yan Xingyu was stunned for a moment. Her thoughts involuntarily drifted back to her past life. Although she grew up in an orphanage, the aunties there were actually quite kind to the parentless children.
Later, she was scouted by the Organization and taken away for training to become a mercenary. Most of her time was spent training and doing missions with little freedom, but she never lacked food or clothes, and the boss she was assigned to was actually quite good to her.
So she said, “I think it was quite good.”
“Mm. Then you can live even more happily now.”
Seeing the paper man stop, Yi Rong knew they had reached the spot. She signaled the fish to find the exit, watching as they gathered into a line in the air, opening a small rift.
She turned and pulled Yan Xingyu inside. Before Yan Xingyu could react, a patch of empty ground appeared before her eyes. Realizing they had emerged from the female demon’s barrier, she felt for a moment that they had come out too quickly.
Feeling the grip on her hand loosen, she turned to look as expected, Yi Rong left immediately.
This person really was “come and go in a hurry.” She thought to herself that the next time they met, she wanted to have a real talk with her.
“Xingyu!”
Hearing Guan Fei’s voice coming from the distance, she looked over to see her friend flying toward her on a sword, holding the little fox. Guan Fei looked worried. “Xingyu, are you okay?”
“Don’t overthink it. It was just a fleeting encounter; there’s no need to mind it.”
Yan Xingyu felt a warmth in her heart seeing her friend find her so quickly, but the latter part of the sentence felt strange. She asked, “Guan Fei, what are you talking about?”
Guan Fei said, “I know. I won’t say a word. Xingyu, rest assured, no one will ever know.”
What do you know? Yan Xingyu looked at her friend’s considerate tone and her face scrunched up. Realizing Guan Fei had gotten the wrong idea, she tried to explain, “Guan Fei, I…”
But the other woman wouldn’t even let her explain. The moment she opened her mouth, she was interrupted.
“Xingyu, you don’t need to say more. What you need now is a good rest.”
“I’ll take you to rest. We’ll enter Mount Changyan tomorrow.”
Guan Fei stepped forward, pulled Yan Xingyu onto the sword, and flew to a cliff side ledge. A campfire was burning there, and grass mats were laid out, it looked like it had all been prepared recently.
After landing, Guan Fei immediately set up a barrier. “Xingyu, rest here peacefully. I won’t disturb you.”
Having said that, she hurriedly clutched the little fox and lay down on another mat, looking exactly like someone determined not to ask questions and to respect the other’s privacy.
Seeing that she couldn’t even get a word in before the other person decided something had happened between her and the female demon, Yan Xingyu didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.
However, on second thought, if she said nothing had happened, Guan Fei would ask who rescued her. Yi Rong’s situation was complicated and would be hard to explain clearly for now.
Well… let it be for now then…
She walked to the mat and lay down, turning over to look at the black ring on her hand. After these few interactions with Yi Rong, she realized the woman was even more innocent than she had imagined. How could such a person have massacred the Yulan Palace?
Though that illusion had connected with Yan Rou’s dream, one strange point remained: where did the person impersonating Yi Rong go?
Or rather, was that person among those few people?
Thinking of this, Yan Xingyu’s expression turned serious. The two Sect Masters and one Palace Master would not be easy to deal with.
She reached out to touch the pendant around her neck. Or… was it her aunt?
Yan Xingyu’s eyes darkened. Once the seed of suspicion is planted, it cannot stop taking root and sprouting.
The words Yi Rong spoke flashed through her mind. Since she had come here and gained a new life, she would naturally make herself live more happily. But she also had to find the person who harmed the original owner of this body otherwise, it would always remain a hidden threat.
