I Love Her Because She’s Dim-Witted And Filthy Rich - Chapter 31.2
She wondered what gift that man had given to Duan Bainian.
Su Miao stood up and slowly leaned over the bag. Just as she was about to reach out and open it to look, she was stopped by Duan Bainian’s voice: “What are you doing?”
Su Miao was startled. “Nothing, nothing… I… I’m just turning on the humidifier. You scared me to death.”
Duan Bainian found it funny. What this fool wanted to do was practically written on her face; who wouldn’t be able to tell? And yet she was still putting on a show of covering it up.
Seeing Su Miao’s current unease from being jealous, Duan Bainian’s previous irritation vanished, and she actually felt greatly satisfied. She even had an illusion—it was as if the more miserable Su Miao was, the more comfortable she felt.
So she said intentionally, “Don’t just touch that red bag randomly.”
Su Miao subconsciously asked, “Why?”
Duan Bainian smiled mysteriously and said nothing, continuing to watch her show.
Su Miao, however, was baffled by Duan Bainian’s meaningful smile.
What did Duan Bainian mean?
She wasn’t allowed to touch the bag?
So she really treasured the things in that bag?
Why did she treasure them so much?
Because it was a gift from that man?
The more Su Miao thought, the more miserable she felt. She gave the bag a huffy shove. “Who cares about your stuff!”
Duan Bainian acted as if she hadn’t heard. She put away her phone, turned off the main lights, and left only the bedside lamp on, looking like she was ready to sleep.
The room, left with only the bedside lamp, darkened instantly. Su Miao stood there, waiting for a long time, but didn’t hear Duan Bainian call her to bed. She felt even more aggrieved in her heart. In the past, no matter how angry Duan Bainian was, she would always call her to sleep.
Her nose felt sour, and she silently climbed into bed herself.
Su Miao had another dream that night.
In the dream, Duan Bainian was in a relationship with that man. The man had his arm around Duan Bainian’s waist, and they were eating happily in the living room.
She wanted to chase the man away, but was scolded by Duan Bainian instead: “He is my boyfriend. We are going to get married in the future. If you can’t stand it, go home!”
Su Miao was devastated. She asked Duan Bainian through tears if she wouldn’t want her anymore after getting married. To her surprise, Duan Bainian actually nodded and said, “After marriage, he will be the most important person to me. Why would I still want you?”
At 3 AM, Su Miao woke up crying.
In the middle of the night, Su Miao’s intermittent sobbing was quite frightening. Duan Bainian was also woken up. She turned on the bedside lamp, her voice raspy, “What’s wrong with you?”
Su Miao was still immersed in the dream scenario and couldn’t distinguish between dream and reality. Seeing Duan Bainian asking her what was wrong so gently, she suddenly grabbed Duan Bainian, crying with a pouting mouth, “Duan Bainian… ugh… don’t discard me!”
Duan Bainian, who got a neck full of tears: “…”
After crying for half a minute, Su Miao’s frozen brain finally started working. She only now realized she had taken the dream as reality; she thought Duan Bainian had really said she didn’t want her anymore.
So the crying stopped abruptly.
She awkwardly let go of Duan Bainian and explained, “Um… I had a nightmare…”
Duan Bainian turned on her side to look at Su Miao. “What did you dream about? Why are you crying like this?”
Su Miao spoke with a nasal voice. “I dreamed you were in a relationship with that man, and then… you said you didn’t want me anymore…”
Even knowing it was a dream, talking about it now still made Su Miao’s nose feel a bit sour. she held back so the tears wouldn’t flow again.
After hearing Su Miao’s dream, Duan Bainian felt entirely refreshed. Truly, what goes around comes around. Who would have thought this fool would have a time when she’d dream of such a thing?
She suppressed a smile. “Are you very afraid of me not wanting you?”
Su Miao pulled the blanket over her face and didn’t say a word.
Duan Bainian pulled the blanket away and looked at Su Miao with a beaming smile. “It’s come to this, and you still insist on not dating me?”
Without the cover of the blanket, Su Miao was extremely awkward and didn’t know how to answer Duan Bainian’s question. So she turned around and faced away from Duan Bainian, saying nothing.
Duan Bainian wouldn’t let the question go. “Su Miao, I’m talking to you.”
Su Miao gave an “aiya,” pulled the blanket back over herself to wrap it tight, and a muffled voice came from under the covers: “You… don’t always pressure me, okay? You have to at least give me a process to adapt!”
Duan Bainian was greatly shocked. Because she was in a good mood, she had just casually teased Su Miao, not expecting Su Miao to say such a thing.
From what Su Miao meant, if she was allowed to adapt, things would follow naturally later?
Duan Bainian turned Su Miao over to face her. “Then tell me, how long do you need to adapt?”
Su Miao’s expression was extremely strange.
She didn’t expect herself to just blur out such a sentence either.
Could it be that after adapting for a while, she really would change from friends to a couple with Duan Bainian?
If it were exposed in the future, wouldn’t the whole world know she was a lesbian? If her mother found out then, who knows if she would be angered to death?
She remembered on New Year’s Eve last year, an aunt in the neighborhood suffered a stroke and was sent to the hospital. It was said she was angered by the boyfriend her son brought home.
She went back on her word: “You… don’t misunderstand. I don’t mean I want to date you!”
Duan Bainian’s expression turned cold. “Then what do you mean?”
Seeing Duan Bainian’s face change, Su Miao also felt very guilty. She whispered, “I don’t mean anything…”
The two fell into a long silence.
After a long while, Duan Bainian spoke softly, “Su Miao, my friends have no right to control my personal social life.”
Su Miao was stunned for a second. “Ah?”
Duan Bainian smiled. “So, in the future, regardless of who I date, it has nothing to do with you.”
Su Miao wasn’t happy at all. She understood—if she didn’t date Duan Bainian, Duan Bainian would go date that Baron.
The more Su Miao thought, the angrier she got. She glared at Duan Bainian and argued, “You don’t like Baron at all! How can you date him!”
Duan Bainian: “I don’t like him now, but that doesn’t mean I won’t in the future. Baron is very excellent; he’s a good candidate for marriage.”
Su Miao couldn’t control herself and shouted, “You aren’t allowed to marry him!”
Duan Bainian just looked at Su Miao and didn’t speak.
After a long while, Su Miao dejectedly admitted defeat. “Fine, fine… I’m willing to date you. But you have to give me time to adapt. I… my heart is racing with panic.”
Duan Bainian said calmly, “Same question as before: how long do you need to adapt?”
Su Miao’s face was full of confusion. She didn’t dare look at Duan Bainian’s searching gaze and looked at the floor on one side. “Maybe a month? I… I don’t know…”
Duan Bainian was somewhat satisfied with this timeframe. She pinched Su Miao’s face. “Then it’s settled: one month.”
Forced into a promise, Su Miao felt both angry and wronged.
She thought Duan Bainian was completely wicked!
She clearly knew what she was afraid of, yet she intentionally made things difficult for her!
Su Miao was dying of anger and wanted to lose her temper at Duan Bainian. Unfortunately, she had been cowardly since she was a child. Even though she had already scolded Duan Bainian a thousand times in her head, she couldn’t say a single word out loud.
Seeing Su Miao’s conflicted face, Duan Bainian found it truly funny. She leaned in toward Su Miao and smiled. “Why do you look so unhappy?”
Su Miao turned her back and ignored Duan Bainian.
Duan Bainian continued, “I’ve already promised you not to have further developments with Baron. Why are you still unhappy?”
It was better not to mention that person; mentioning him made Su Miao even angrier. It was all that “villain’s” fault. If he hadn’t appeared, how could she have fallen into this dilemma?!
She suddenly sat up, turned on the main lights, and pointed at the red bag in the corner. “Then throw away the gift he gave you!”
Duan Bainian said seriously, “That cannot be thrown away.”
Su Miao was going crazy! She was already willing to try dating, yet Duan Bainian still wasn’t willing to throw away the gift from that “villain”?! What, was it very precious?
Some people lose their temper, shout, or throw things when they are angry. There is another kind of person who is so cowardly that they only cry when they are angry.
Clearly, Su Miao was the latter. Her tears fell in torrents from anger, and her breathing became uneven.
Duan Bainian looked helpless. She got out of bed, picked up the red bag, and handed it to Su Miao. “Look for yourself what it is.”
Inside the bag was a set of figurines.
Su Miao was stunned. “This… this is for me?”
Duan Bainian said speechlessly, “What do you think?”
Su Miao had loved Japanese anime since she was little, and she usually bought some figurines she liked.
Two months ago, she took a liking to a set of niche figurines. They were only produced in Japan, the production volume was very small, and they were quite a hassle to buy. At that time, she had complained a few times to Duan Bainian, not expecting Duan Bainian to buy them without saying a word.
The tears were still circling in her eyes, but she felt pleasantly surprised and laughed through her tears. “How did you manage to buy them?”
Duan Bainian had a smile on her face. “Do you like them?”
Su Miao nodded repeatedly. “I like them!”
Duan Bainian smiled and got up to pour some water. Actually, she hadn’t planned to give this to Su Miao today; after all, ten minutes ago, the two of them were still at odds.
This was something she asked a friend to buy in Japan two months ago. It had been delayed for a while. While having dinner with Baron tonight, the friend called to say they got them and told her to come pick them up.
Originally, she planned to go herself, but Baron had picked her up in the afternoon and she didn’t have her car. Baron insisted on seeing her home to “finish what he started.” She couldn’t refuse, so the two of them went to the friend’s house to get the figurines, and then he drove her home.
When she got out of the car, she forgot to take the figurines, so Baron chased after her to hand her the bag.
That must have been when Su Miao misunderstood, thinking it was a gift from Baron.
On the other side, Su Miao was happily taking photos.
Duan Bainian’s mouth curved up. This fool really is too easy to coax.
The fool herself turned on the main lights and took photos of the figurines from various angles, getting happier the more she took. Once she had taken enough photos, she peeked at Duan Bainian, and her heart was practically bubbling over.
Duan Bainian must like her to death!
Otherwise, why would she give her a gift even after they fought so fiercely!
Forget it, forget it. Seeing how much Duan Bainian likes her, she’ll temporarily forgive Duan Bainian for making things difficult for her!
