I Just Want to Spoil and Run Away with the Abused Female Lead [Quick Transmigration] - Chapter 31
As soon as Lin Yi finished speaking, she was pinched hard. If she continued, Shi Xingrao would likely lose her temper, but since the words had already been spoken, she felt that Shi Xingrao wouldn’t actually get angry.
For some reason, she always felt that Shi Xingrao understood the fragility of emotions even more than she did. Shi Xingrao cherished her relationship with Lin Shuangran so deeply—she wouldn’t.
“Since when did you have a girlfriend? How come I didn’t know?”
Lin Yi looked down at the girl resting on her lap, her gaze filled with affection.
The word “affection” seemed entirely out of place when associated with Lin Yi. Seeing such an expression on Lin Yi’s face, even Lin Shuangran was momentarily stunned.
“She’s socially anxious and doesn’t like meeting people.”
It couldn’t be Shi Xingrao she must be overthinking it.
Trying to comfort herself with this thought, Lin Shuangran couldn’t help but ask, “Sis, did you take Raorao home before you came? She caught a cold today and isn’t feeling well.”
Hearing her own name suddenly from Lin Shuangran’s lips, Shi Xingrao’s back stiffened.
In the cramped space, Shi Xingrao’s long, curled eyelashes trembled slightly. Sis, Lin Shuangran must have come here earlier to break up with Lu Ze. Even now, she’s still thinking of me.
Feeling remembered, the little fox grew restless. Lin Yi’s lips curled into a faint, cold smile as she pinched the back of the little fox’s neck through her clothes as a form of punishment.
Why is she so infatuated?
Lin Yi nodded. “Of course. I only came out after taking her home.”
“I promised you I’d take good care of Raorao.” After saying this, Lin Yi finally looked up at Lin Shuangran, a faint smile playing on her lips.
Raorao.
Did Lin Yi usually call her “Raorao” too, just like she did?
Lin Shuangran stared at Lin Yi, an unspoken tension brewing between them, creating an unbearably strange atmosphere.
Shi Xingrao tugged at Lin Yi’s clothes again. Clearly, having Lin Shuangran stay even a minute longer was not good for anyone, yet Lin Yi seemed completely unhurried.
Finally, Lin Yi spoke, “You should head back first. Your sister-in-law is really shy, and I’m afraid she’ll suffocate if she stays like this.”
Shi Xingrao: “…”
Lin Shuangran steadied her emotions. The words “sister-in-law” felt like they were burning her. Though she should have politely greeted them, considering the possibility, she ultimately made no move to do so.
“Then I’ll go back to take care of Raorao. You two enjoy yourselves.” Lin Shuangran pressed her lips together and added, “We can arrange a meeting at home another day. After all, family should meet eventually.”
Lin Yi, however, remained entirely unfazed and replied calmly, “Sure.”
Shi Xingrao: “…”
The only consolation for Shi Xingrao was that Lin Shuangran was about to leave.
At the very least, Lin Shuangran hadn’t seen her and Lin Yi here. No matter whether they were following her or had some other reason, there was no plausible explanation for their presence.
*Ding ling *
Lin Shuangran took two steps away, then turned back to glance over her shoulder. Her gaze fell on the jade-like ankle, where a red anklet swayed gently, its two strands of red bean and silver bell tassels intertwined.
Lin Shuangran felt her heart sink to the depths. She was like a rusted robot, unable to function, unable to draw any conclusions.
Lin Yi followed Lin Shuangran’s gaze and grasped Shi Xingrao’s snow-white ankle, her slender, elegant fingers gently toying with the tassels before completely untangling the two intertwined strands.
Lin Shuangran wasn’t quite sure how she managed to walk out of the room. Only one thought lingered in her mind perhaps it was just a coincidence. After all, that ankle chain had been handcrafted by her mother.
As a child, she hadn’t understood much. When her mother was organizing things and mentioned giving a jade ring to a boy she might like in the future, Lin Shuangran couldn’t help but ask, “What if I like a girl instead?”
Her mother simply smiled, then wove two red ankle chains, one for Lin Shuangran and one for Lin Yi. She gently patted Lin Shuangran’s head and said, “You and your sister each have one. When you meet a girl you like in the future, you can give it to her.”
When Lin Shuangran went to the old house to retrieve the ankle chain, Lin Yi’s was still tucked away in its box.
An inexplicable intuition told her it was Shi Xingrao, yet she couldn’t bring herself to admit it.
