I Just Want to Spoil and Run Away with the Abused Female Lead [Quick Transmigration] - Chapter 19
Cat Ear: “A horror movie?”
Of course, Shi Xingrao and Lin Shuangran would watch a horror film, didn’t it understand the shameless little thoughts of young couples?
Shi Xingrao curved her lips into a smile. “It’s more of a thriller, actually the one I won an award for.”
Cat Ear: “Are you sure you want to showcase your weak points in front of Miss Lin?”
Shi Xingrao’s smile deepened. “Sis won’t mind. Even if my acting is bad, it’s fine. She likes me, so even if I perform poorly, she won’t think I’m terrible.”
Cat Ear: “…”
It was rather amusing in the award-winning film, Shi Xingrao, the Best Actress, only appeared alive for a total of five minutes. The rest of the time, she was playing a corpse.
In this movie, Shi Xingrao’s rival, Yu Chen, carried the entire film, with her role spanning from beginning to end.
It was widely known that Shi Xingrao’s acting skills were subpar, yet winning Best Actress for just five minutes of screen time was utterly ridiculous. Even more absurd was that Shi Xingrao had “outshone” Yu Chen to claim the award.
After Cat Ear found the movie and transferred it to Shi Xingrao’s tablet, it couldn’t resist teasing, “Sis, isn’t Yu Chen also in this? Aren’t you afraid she’ll steal your spotlight? What if Miss Lin ends up liking Yu Chen more? What will you do then?”
Shi Xingrao: “Shut up. Sis would never like her.”
Cat Ear: “Oho Getting all worked up and defensive now, huh?”
Shi Xingrao: “…”
Sometimes, being on a mission alone made her really want to strangle her system.
Although Lin Shuangran had told Shi Xingrao to go to sleep, when Shi Xingrao stood pitifully outside the door, calling out “Sis” and saying she couldn’t sleep, Lin Shuangran’s heart softened and she let her in.
Shi Xingrao’s eyes sparkled. “Sis, can you watch a movie with me for a bit?”
The girl looked up at her, her gaze clear and bright as if filled with stars. Lin Shuangran swallowed the words urging the girl to sleep early and simply smiled helplessly. “You, I really don’t know what to do with you.”
She could never refuse Shi Xingrao not her hopeful expressions, and certainly not her dejected ones.
This inability to refuse, coupled with emotions she couldn’t suppress, grew like wild grass. She had once believed that liking someone took time, that falling in love was a gradual accumulation.
But after meeting Shi Xingrao, she realized all her assumptions were false.
Being hugged, being touched everything only made her want Shi Xingrao more.
It was madness, completely unlike her.
The movie opened with a scene on a dilapidated building. Three children two girls and a boy were playing. One girl was on a swing, while the boy and the other girl played near the edge of the crumbling structure. As they played, they inched closer and closer to the brink.
The girl on the swing watched silently, her expression almost blank, making no move to warn them.
Suddenly, the boy slipped, grabbing onto whatever he could and in doing so, pulled his playmate down with him.
It happened so fast that Shi Xingrao could feel Lin Shuangran jolt in surprise. Even though it was just a movie, Lin Shuangran seemed to instinctively reach out as if to catch the falling children.
Shi Xingrao’s fingers gripped the edge of the table, tightening slightly as she softly called out, “Sister.”
On the rooftop, a little girl in a red dress sat on a swing against a bleak, desolate gray backdrop. The girl continued to swing as if the two children who had just fallen from the rooftop had nothing to do with her.
Her indifference was chilling.
The swing kept swaying, while the background noise turned into screams and accusations. People were questioning the girl, asking why she hadn’t saved the two children, why she hadn’t warned them.
The parents were saying, “Why didn’t that cold-hearted monster die instead?”
“Sister, do you think the little girl in the red dress is terrifying? They died right in front of her, and she didn’t even react.” Shi Xingrao lowered her gaze, her nails digging into her palm, leaving red marks on her soft, pale skin.
Lin Shuangran hadn’t expected Shi Xingrao to ask such a question. “Why terrifying? Because she didn’t save them?”
“Don’t you think she was waiting for the two children to fall?”
Didn’t she deliberately want to see them die?
Lin Shuangran replied, “But she’s also pitiful. It’s not her fault, yet everyone blames her. She didn’t push the children. In her eyes, they were no different from anything else.”
“No one wanted the two children to fall from that building. Perhaps people thought she could have prevented the tragedy, but she probably didn’t even understand what was happening to them.”
“She’s not even five years old. She doesn’t even understand what death is. How can we say it’s her fault?”
Shi Xingrao slowly relaxed her grip on her palm. “But she’s still so cold. So cold it’s almost abnormal.”
She leaned against Lin Shuangran, rubbing against her like a cat, acting coquettishly as if hoping to hear more of Lin Shuangran’s understanding and sympathy for the girl.
“It’s not abnormal.”
Hearing what she wanted to hear, Shi Xingrao curved her lips into a smile and softly called out, “Sister, sister…”
Each call was more clingy than the last. Shi Xingrao always liked calling her “sister,” but today, the way she called out felt inexplicably well-behaved, giving the impression that Lin Shuangran was her entire world.
Lin Shuangran responded, “Hmm.”
The story continued, and in the blink of an eye, the girl grew up. The grown-up girl was played by Yu Chen.
As an adult, she took over her family’s company but remained emotionally detached. However, she learned to pretend. Everyone who interacted with her thought she had strong empathy an excellent leader, the daughter others admired, gentle, polite, bright, and poised.
But no one knew that Yu Chen had a basement in her home filled with various dissection tools.
Shi Xingrao played the role of Yu Chen’s secretary and also the victim.
When Shi Xingrao appeared on screen, Lin Shuangran’s eyes flickered. “Is this a movie starring Raorao? I haven’t seen it before, but the production quality is good. I feel like I shouldn’t have missed it.”
Lin Shuangran was right. The movie’s production quality was indeed excellent. Not only did it achieve high box office earnings upon release, but it also won several awards.
“Is Raorao the female lead’s second?”
Lin Shuangran watched intently.
Shi Xingrao shifted her gaze slightly, feeling a bit guilty. In the entire movie, aside from Yu Chen, she had the most screen time. She supposed she could be considered the female lead’s second unless a corpse didn’t count.
The film continued. It started raining, and Yu Chen, playing the female boss, brought her drenched secretary, Shi Xingrao, home, letting her take a shower and change clothes.
“Rao Rao, are she and you playing a couple in the movie?”
Shi Xingrao blinked her eyes in confusion. “No, we’re not a couple.”
She played the victim. Moreover, she and Yu Chen were sworn enemies there was no way in this lifetime she would partner with Yu Chen as a CP.
Lin Shuangran didn’t directly refute Shi Xingrao’s words but paused the movie instead. “Look at the way she looks at you.”
That kind of gaze was definitely not innocent.
Following Lin Shuangran’s lead, Shi Xingrao looked more closely. On the screen, the woman’s face could almost be described as Nuwa’s masterpiece. Her long eyelashes slightly lowered, her amber eyes reflecting Shi Xingrao’s image. Strangely, Shi Xingrao sensed a hint of deep affection in that gaze.
But she quickly dismissed the thought. “Not at all. This woman is used to attracting attention she acts affectionate toward everyone. Besides…”
Lin Shuangran’s eyes darkened slightly, her voice lowering. “Besides what?”
Shi Xingrao: “We’re rivals the kind where it’s either you die or I die. It’s already good enough that I don’t hate her.”
Lin Shuangran chuckled softly and gently pinched Shi Xingrao’s cheek. “Rao Rao, sometimes you seem clueless, and other times you seem to understand. But how can you not see what’s on her mind?”
Even if someone could look at a dog with affection, it wouldn’t be to this extent.
Moreover, she could tell that Shi Xingrao’s rival was a skilled actress. If she didn’t want to reveal it, she could easily hide any trace of affection.
This film felt more like someone sneaking in their personal feelings, subtly expressing their love.
She didn’t want to believe it, but the evidence was right in front of her.
This woman liked Shi Xingrao. Her gaze was less like looking at prey and more like looking at a lover a disobedient lover. The subsequent plot seemed to revolve around wanting to keep that disobedient lover by her side.
The woman’s performance was subtle, but perhaps because they shared similar feelings, Lin Shuangran could sense that this woman was in love with Shi Xingrao.
“Does Rao Rao really hate her that much?”
“Yeah, Sister, you have no idea every time we’re in the same place, everyone only looks at her and ignores me. And her fans always flood my Weibo comments, saying my acting is terrible.”
Shi Xingrao’s eyes flickered as she suddenly realized something.
She looked up at Lin Shuangran, her beautiful, glass-like eyes filled with innocence and naivety.
But her words carried a deliberately mischievous tone. “Sister, are you jealous?”
