I Just Want to Spoil and Run Away with the Abused Female Lead [Quick Transmigration] - Chapter 13
Shi Xingrao: “When did Lin Shuangran leave?”
Cat Ears quickly pulled up the data and showed Shi Xingrao the surveillance footage. “She left about ten minutes ago.”
Shi Xingrao was about to rush out the door but suddenly remembered something, turned back to grab a coat, and then headed out.
Outside the Lin family residence,
As soon as she stepped out of the car, a chilly wind swept over her without warning, making her shiver involuntarily. The driver quickly spoke up, “Second Miss, hurry inside. You’re dressed so lightly if you stay out here any longer, you might catch a cold.”
But the driver didn’t get a response from Lin Shuangran. Instead, when he looked up, he saw a girl standing in front of the Lin family mansion, dressed in thin clothing.
The wind tousled the girl’s hair, and the tip of her fair nose was flushed red from the cold. It seemed she had been waiting there for a long time.
Though the girl was lightly dressed, she held a piece of clothing in her arms. The driver couldn’t quite understand the logic of young girls these days bringing a coat but not wearing it. How foolish.
Lin Shuangran hadn’t expected to see Shi Xingrao here. When Shi Xingrao looked up and smiled at her, Lin Shuangran was momentarily stunned. After a brief pause, she quickly walked over to Shi Xingrao.
“What are you doing here?”
The warmth of intertwined fingers, the sensation of intimate whispers just seeing this person brought it all back, sending shivers down her spine as memories rushed forth uncontrollably.
Shi Xingrao blinked and held out the coat toward Lin Shuangran. “I came to bring you a coat.”
“I heard from Auntie that you came home. She said you didn’t dress warmly when you went out, so I thought I’d bring you a coat.”
“Here, put it on quickly.”
“Next time you go out, could you let me know? I worry when I can’t find you.”
Before yesterday, she had always informed Shi Xingrao whenever she went out. But after what happened last night, she subconsciously didn’t know how to face her.
“Xingrao, I’m sorry, I.”
Suddenly, Shi Xingrao leaned forward, her soft hand gently covering Lin Shuangran’s mouth. Lin Shuangran’s eyes widened slightly in surprise, only to hear Shi Xingrao whisper in her ear, “Sister, don’t apologize. You didn’t do anything wrong.”
“I’m asking you, begging you, to let me know where you’re going next time. I’m not blaming you.”
It wasn’t that she felt the need to apologize to just anyone, but when Shi Xingrao worried about her, she couldn’t help but feel especially sorry.
Lin Shuangran’s gaze fell on Shi Xingrao’s thin clothing. “You thought to bring me a coat, but you’re dressed so lightly yourself?”
As she spoke, Lin Shuangran took the coat she had just received from Shi Xingrao and moved to drape it over her shoulders.
But Shi Xingrao pressed her hand down. “Sister, this coat is for you. I won’t wear it. You wear it.”
Her refusal was as stubborn as if nine oxen couldn’t drag her back.
Lin Shuangran had no choice but to relent. “Then come back to the Lin residence with me. I have clothes at the old house will you wear those?”
Shi Xingrao followed Lin Shuangran inside. As they pushed open the door to the main hall, Shi Xingrao suddenly asked, “Does this count as meeting your family?”
“What did you say, Xingrao?” Lin Shuangran seemed not to have caught her words clearly.
A slight smile touched Shi Xingrao’s lips. “Nothing.”
“Why are you so slow? Everyone’s been waiting for you. Since you were little, you’ve never understood how to behave properly not a hint of an older sister’s demeanor.”
Lin Shuangran and Shi Xingrao pushed the door open and entered the dining room, where a table of people was already seated. The moment he heard the noise, Lin’s father spoke with displeasure.
Seated at the head of the table, Lin’s father had his second wife on one side and Lin Shuangran’s older sister on the other. Next to the stepmother sat her son.
The young boy, not much older than a child, looked at Lin Shuangran with a mocking expression.
Lin Shuangran paid little attention to what her father had said. She had heard such remarks since she was a child and was long used to them. Instead, she reached out and gently patted Shi Xingrao, who was visibly upset.
She had witnessed firsthand how Shi Xingrao couldn’t stand to see her suffer.
“Behave yourself today.”
Shi Xingrao nodded. “Got it, I’ll listen to you, sis. I promise not to cause trouble unless I can’t help it.”
Lin Shuangran chuckled softly. “You.”
The stepmother, however, was much more polite than Lin’s father. “Xiao Ran, you brought a friend? And you couldn’t you give Xiao Ran some face, especially when her friend is here?”
She then lowered her voice and whispered into Lin’s father’s ear, “She’s still engaged to the Lu family. Don’t you want the Lin Corporation to climb even higher with the Lu family’s support?”
Her voice was very low, but Shi Xingrao’s sharp ears caught every word. Shi Xingrao sneered inwardly. She had long known that the Lin family was no group of saints, but she still found it astonishing how utterly shameless they were. What did the Lin family have to do with Lin’s father? Did he really think he could treat his ex-wife’s assets as his own family business?
“Second Sister, you’ve been back in the country for so long but never come home. Is it because Mom and the rest of us are an eyesore to you?”
As soon as Lin Shuangran and Shi Xingrao sat down, the young boy beside them spoke up with sarcasm.
“If you know, why ask? Are you itching for trouble?”
Shi Xingrao: “?”
The one who spoke was Lin Yi, Lin Shuangran’s older sister from the same parents. Lin Yi was the only one in the Lin family who treated Lin Shuangran well.
The boy choked back his anger, pouted, and looked at his mother with a pitiful expression. The stepmother’s heart ached for him. “Xiao Yi, Lin Yu is still your brother. How can you talk to him like that? And with a guest here, how will Lin Yu face others in the future? Besides, Lin Yu is still young. As older sisters, why are you picking on him?”
