- I Helped My Best Friend with Her Romance—and Fell for the Enemy’s Strategist
- Chapter 33 - So It Really Is Her?
Lin Ruocheng didn’t dwell on it too much, after all, there were plenty of girls with similar vocal tones. How could it possibly be such a coincidence? How could it be Fu Yanxi?
The information she had gathered didn’t seem to include anything about her being a voice actress. So it definitely couldn’t be her.
Besides, Stream-sensei (voice actor Xi Liu) had apparently become famous at a young age and was now considered a leading figure in the yuri (girls’ love) circle, mainly voicing roles in yuri audio dramas.
“Are you ready yet?”
“Almost, almost, stop rushing me.”
“By the way, isn’t it a bit early for us to go now?”
“Early? You have no idea how popular Stream is! And this is her first offline event, which means she’ll be showing her face from now on! If we go now, we might still end up in the back row. If we’re late, you won’t even be able to squeeze in. So, hurry up, unless you want to get pushed all the way to the Himalayas.”
“Well, at least that would save on airfare.”
Song Wanqing was dragged along by Lin Ruocheng early in the morning. After a quick breakfast, they hurriedly took a taxi to the event venue.
Just as Lin Ruocheng had predicted, the place was packed, a sea of girls. She had said that Stream’s appearance would be nothing short of a miracle in the yuri voice-acting community.
She was truly at the top of the top tier. Rumor had it that many fans had even found partners among fellow admirers of Stream.
Her devoted fangirls were numerous, almost overwhelmingly so.
Lin Ruocheng was one of them.
It seemed there was a new audio drama in the works, and Stream was reportedly the intended lead voice.
Even before its official release, the play count had surpassed a million in less than half an hour.
After all, she was known as the most precious voice in Lancheng. Such treatment was only to be expected.
“Wow! There are so many people?” Song Wanqing stared at the crowded venue and swallowed hard. She knew Lin Ruocheng was a huge fan of Stream, she had been obsessed since high school, to the point of infatuation. But she never imagined there would be this many devoted fangirls.
“Of course! I told you, if we came late, there wouldn’t even be anywhere to sit.”
This offline event was actually organized to promote the new audio drama. Lin Ruocheng clutched the contract tightly in her hand. She was usually calm and collected, but in front of her idol, everything felt somewhat surreal. She had no idea what Stream looked like, but she adored her voice. It was especially difficult to collaborate with her, she was meticulous in her selections and never took on subpar scripts.
Lin Ruocheng had listened to her live streams before.
Stream mentioned that voice acting was just a hobby for her, and she never expected to gain so much love from fans.
Just listen to that, it was merely a hobby, yet she came across as a natural professional.
No one knew what her main occupation was.
“Here, this is the character standee for the role your Stream voiced in this audio drama.” Song Wanqing had somehow managed to snag a standee from somewhere.
It had been incredibly difficult, but thankfully, she got it in time. Trying to get a standee from among all these devoted fangirls was no easy feat.
“Huh? Oh, that’s great! I love you so much!”
Song Wanqing made a face of disgust and quickly stepped away.
“Don’t love me, I already have someone I love.”
“Don’t be so nervous. It’s just inviting her to be the voice actor for your game character, right? What if she agrees? Besides, your mobile game is a phenomenon in the making, it’s bound to be a huge hit. And there aren’t any yuri-style otome games out there right now; yours is the first of its kind. I had a few friends who review games test it, and they said it’s pretty good. If we add Stream’s voice to it…”
“That would be absolutely perfect.”
Lin Ruocheng’s palms were sweaty with nerves.
She repeated to herself inwardly, I’m not nervous, I’m not nervous.
Lin Ruocheng approached a few staff members, after all, she wasn’t quite like the other fans.
Her main goal was to discuss a collaboration.
Being a fan and a dreamer came second.
“Qiuli? What are you doing here?”
Song Wanqing was startled. She had just been about to call Yu Qiuli to ask where she was.
She never expected the other person to be waiting backstage.
“Hmm? What are you two doing here? Are you also fans of voice actor Xi Liu”
Yu Qiuli narrowed her eyes, looking back and forth between the two.
Song Wanqing immediately waved her hands to clarify.
Afraid that even a second’s delay would cause misunderstandings, she believed the best way to maintain a relationship was to minimize misunderstandings.
That was the key to a lasting relationship.
Although she was a bit slow-witted, she handled this situation quite well.
“No, it’s not me who likes her. It’s Chengzi who’s the fan. It has nothing to do with me.”
Lin Ruocheng glanced at her.
Feeling quite relieved.
It was true that this person was a bit of a blockhead, but when it came to matters of principle, she stood firm.
She was doing well in that regard.
“I’m a fan of voice actor Xi Liu, not Wanqing. But why are you in the backstage? Is Fu Yanxi here too?”
“Her? She’s here as well.”
Fu Yanxi emerged from the restroom. Today, she was wearing a simple white silk mid-sleeve blouse.
The cuffs were rolled up, and there were still a few droplets of water on her forearms.
Paired with black tailored trousers, her figure appeared even more slender.
Her long, straight black hair and slightly upturned, narrow eyes remained the same.
She had on black-framed glasses.
Giving off an even more refined yet dangerous vibe, cold and aloof.
“Chengzi? What are you doing here?”
Her voice was clear and cool, gentle like a babbling brook.
Carrying an innate sense of elegance.
Now, her tone wasn’t as icy as before, much better than when they first met.
Somehow, it didn’t seem too different from voice actor Xi Liu.
“And you? Why are you here?”
Logically, even if Fu Yanxi had come to this area to use the restroom, she shouldn’t have been able to access the backstage, right?
There seemed to be designated restrooms outside.
Wasn’t the backstage restroom reserved for staff only?
“Me? What do you think I’m doing here?”
Fu Yanxi avoided the question, pulling out a few tissues.
She meticulously wiped each finger clean.
Her demeanor was casual and unconcerned.
“How would I know? By the way, do you know where voice actor Xi Liu is?”
Lin Ruocheng peered behind her.
She had heard from the backstage staff that voice actor Xi Liu’s room was somewhere nearby.
But she had no idea exactly where.
“Voice actor Xi Liu? You’re looking for her?”
“Yeah, that’s right.”
Lin Ruocheng nodded. Yu Qiuli handed over a mask that could cover more than half of one’s face.
Fu Yanxi took the mask and put it on.
Apart from her strikingly indifferent eyes, most of her face was hidden behind the mask.
“Then why don’t you take a look at me? Do you think I could be her?”
After saying this, Fu Yanxi reached out and gently ruffled the other person’s hair.
She tousled their hair into complete disarray.
Lin Ruocheng felt a bit annoyed but hadn’t yet spoken when a staff member approached from behind her.
“CV Xi Liu, you can go up now to get ready.”
“Mm, okay, thank you.”
Lin Ruocheng’s mouth fell open as she gasped in surprise.
“Wait… you… I… you’re… voice actor Xi Liu?”
This was an answer she had never even considered.
Shock! a famous voice actor was right beside her?
It was really her?
Was she dreaming?
