I Heard That I am a HeartBreaker - Chapter 70
Song Ya was extremely upset because, as it turned out, she seemingly could not eat at the cafeteria with her. Chen Wanjun said nothing, but from that day on, Lu Chen began to go and get food early without fail and brought the meals back to the classroom.
“Thank you. You really don’t need to run back here. It’s actually the same if you bring it back to me after you’ve finished eating.”
After looking at Qiu Shuang, Lu Chen shook her head.
“I think letting you wait in the room alone is too boring. Besides, I need a friend too, don’t I?”
From that day on, they seemingly became friends. Although they weren’t exactly the type to talk about everything, Lu Chen always seemed to appear whenever she was needed most.
“What do you want from me?”
Looking at the other woman’s incoming call again, Song Ya felt nothing but disdain. She didn’t understand what necessity there was for the two of them to get closer; that brief friendship from their high school era couldn’t possibly serve as a boost in university.
After entering university, they had basically cut off contact entirely. Why had the other person suddenly sought her out for no reason, making one phone call after another?
Song Ya indeed didn’t like Lu Chen much, but after she discovered the girl could help improve Qiu Shuang’s grades, she said nothing and did everything possible to ensure the other remained Qiu Shuang’s desk mate.
“Why has Qiu Shuang never been able to make new friends?”
When Song Ya heard what the other person was saying, she fell into a rare silence. Hearing that silence, Lu Chen had already guessed some of the issues.
Song Ya, a completely self-centered person—to put it nicely, a “young miss”—was highly possessive and could even be described as aggressive, never allowing others to stand above her.
Under these circumstances, how could her silence not prove a point in return?
This was her doing; she was entirely in the wrong.
Song Ya took a deep breath. In her youth, she hadn’t realized her own malice, but now that she was older, she seemingly finally understood how atrocious her past behavior had been.
Yes, she had money, so she could just do that?
“You down there, stop right there!”
The unfamiliar girl was somewhat confused when she found herself called out. She didn’t know the person at all and seemed a bit bewildered as to why she was being blocked.
Of course, she recognized the other girl—the famous Song Ya. Everyone knew she was wealthy and had even paid her way into this school, but so what? She had money.
Furthermore, the other girl never covered up this fact, directly wearing the label of “academic failure” on her own head.
Song Ya looked at the plain-looking girl before her. How could such an ordinary, useless person be worthy of talking to Qiu Shuang and even dreaming of becoming a so-called friend?
One could say she was too picky. Chen Wanjun was brilliant, at the top of her class, and beautiful to boot. Lu Chen could help Qiu Shuang improve her grades. But the girl in front of her was utterly unremarkable, only knowing how to lead Qiu Shuang into talking about vacuous topics.
“I’ll give you money. Stay away from Qiu Shuang.”
Hearing these words from Song Ya, the girl was practically speechless. She couldn’t imagine how such a person could exist.
“What do you mean by this? Student Song Ya, have you bought out Qiu Shuang? Student Qiu Shuang is a living person; she shouldn’t have to make choices because of you. Our becoming friends is our own business; it has nothing to do with you.”
Seeing the other girl dare to refuse her, Song Ya’s brow furrowed. Why was this person so stubborn? The previous ones were easily dismissed with a bit of money. Did she have to get physical with this one?
“You can try. In any case, my relationship with Qiu Shuang is better. We’ve known each other for so many years. Either you unilaterally break off your friendship with her, or I will find every way possible to force a breakup. If nothing else works, you’d better watch yourself after school.”
Song Ya didn’t understand if her threats were effective. Not long after she turned and left, she ran into Qiu Shuang, whose state didn’t look very good.
“Ya-ya, is there something wrong with me? Why do the people who become my friends always mysteriously distance themselves from me after a while…”
Song Ya inevitably felt a pang of guilt, but it lasted only an instant. She quickly adjusted her state and cheered herself up.
She hadn’t done anything wrong. Those “low-quality” friends were of no use to the other girl and would only lower the standard of their social circle. Only the beautiful, the intelligent, or those with money like her could be Qiu Shuang’s friends.
She thought she should say that the other person wasn’t worthy of their circle, but intuition told Song Ya she shouldn’t say that. After reflecting for a moment:
“It’s because you’re too weak. It’s really boring to interact with someone like you. If it weren’t for this Young Miss’s great kindness, you wouldn’t even have a friend like me.”
Heartless words seemingly didn’t feel like much after being said a few times, until eventually, they became a habit, and she even felt proud of her methods. Her goal was achieved, at least temporarily: Qiu Shuang only had her as a best friend.
As for all the potentially bad consequences stemming from this method, Song Ya never thought about them—or rather, they weren’t important to her.
She had obtained the toy she wanted most. The ultimate fate and degree of wear and tear of the toy were not problems for her to consider.
“You found ways to make those people stay away from Qiu Shuang, didn’t you?”
“What does it have to do with you? Are you Judge Bao? Coming here to settle old scores? Who told you to ask these questions? Was it Qiu Shuang? If not, get lost.”
Upon hearing what Song Ya said, Lu Chen guessed the general reason. She had only asked a couple of questions, and the other person couldn’t help but jump in anger; it seemed she had hit the nail right on the head.
“I’m wondering, if Shuang-shuang knew about the things you did behind her back, would she still be friends with you?”
For the first time in her life, Song Ya felt that her own voice could be so piercing.
“You wouldn’t dare! Try it if you have the guts. Anyway, your family doesn’t have much money; your parents are just university professors. If you dare to do that, I’ll find every way to trip you up. Besides, you wouldn’t happen to like Qiu Shuang, would you? Either way, when the time comes, I can just tell Qiu Shuang. Are you ten-percent sure she will definitely choose you between the two of us?”
Hearing what the other person said, Lu Chen felt sickened for no reason. She hadn’t expected the other girl to be so malicious. She had originally thought she was just an overbearing and selfish young miss, but she hadn’t expected her to be so skilled at turning black into white.
“I never had that thought before, Song Ya. But rest assured, I will do everything in my power to find ways to ruin your relationship. However, I also hope that if you still have a shred of conscience left, you will keep the things you did well-hidden. Don’t let Shuang-shuang find out, or it will only make her more miserable. If you’re willing to expose yourself, I won’t stop you. After all, if you have no conscience, there’s nothing I can do to stop you.”
After hanging up the phone, Lu Chen closed her eyes and clenched her fists. She felt she was truly irresponsible. If she had discovered those seemingly unimportant things a little earlier, would Qiu Shuang’s situation have been a bit better?
Lu Chen felt extremely guilty toward herself. She thought she hadn’t done her best, but it felt alright; the facts proved it was so, but actually, it was merely mediocre.
After hearing the other person finish that sentence and hang up on her, Song Ya clenched her fists. She admitted she was a bit of a “small person” who had gotten her way, even being sufficiently base to the point that she felt a few sparks of relief upon hearing Lu Chen say that.
She knew Lu Chen was that kind of person; the other girl would definitely help her keep it from Qiu Shuang because the other girl would always care more about Qiu Shuang’s feelings than she did.
She was just a base person with a strong sense of possession, wanting to tie the other person firmly to her side. No one knew better than Song Ya the look that girl had given her back then.
Song Ya herself would never forget. In the past, she had accepted it, and many people should pay the price for their mistakes.
But Song Ya didn’t want to bear it. To some extent, she didn’t know if she and Chen Wanjun were both equally malicious and base people. They enjoyed the other girl’s beauty but blocked her emotions outside the door.
They always felt it was Qiu Shuang who couldn’t leave them, couldn’t leave their meticulous protection and control, but in reality, it was they who couldn’t leave Qiu Shuang.
Self-righteous helmsmen thought that after passing through a few calm seas, they could master everything. But the sea is forever heartless; humans will never master the ocean.
Song Ya closed her eyes. She was thinking seriously: how should this matter be handled to make things better for herself?
At this thought, she finally dialed Chen Wanjun’s number.
Chen Wanjun wasn’t surprised at all by Song Ya’s sudden call. Generally speaking, whenever she encountered a problem, the other girl would always harass her immediately.
Based on recent judgments, it shouldn’t be anything major; if there was anything, it was likely just an old landmine the other girl had buried in the past.
“Did Lu Chen find you?”
Chen Wanjun heard a short intake of breath from the other end of Song Ya’s phone. She had guessed right. Perhaps it was because she had a brain smarter than others, or perhaps she was the most heartless person.
Song Ya simply dumped everything and told Chen Wanjun. After she finished hearing what Song Ya had to say, she fell into silence. Should she feel guilty?
Perhaps she should, but she just didn’t care. After all, for someone who was already broken themselves, how could you ask her to pity a scratch on someone else?
On countless nights, Chen Wanjun had hated her parents for never giving her anything to rely on, resulting in so many storms on her path to growth.
But now she was incredibly sober. All of this was because of this beautiful skin and the packaging of “doing it for your own good” under the filth of control and possessiveness.
She had already successfully obtained that ferry ticket back when she became the first person the other girl liked.
“Is this important, Song Ya? Do you think she hasn’t noticed at all?”
It turns out that heaven is fair; what it gives to people, it will take away. She was given an opportunity, and Chen Wanjun herself gave it up.
If she were allowed to go back to the past now, would she really be indulged again? Feeling the other person’s eyes always fixed on her, Chen Wanjun was smiling while wondering what the other girl was thinking.
Song Ya truly didn’t understand what was going on in the heads of these high-achieving students. Either their words pierced straight to the heart, or they said things she couldn’t understand at all.
“If not that, then what? Is it supposed to be a total blowout? Chen Wanjun, that is not allowed.”
