I Heard I’m a Scummy Alpha? [Transmigration] - Chapter 65
Qi Yunwei drove to the front entrance of the Yan Corporation headquarters. At once, the security guard strode over, his expression stern, and motioned for her to move her car.
Rolling down the window, Qi Yunwei smiled.
“Uncle, Yan Zui will be out any second. I’ll leave as soon as I pick her up, all right?”
The guard blinked, recognizing her face, and his tone shifted immediately.
“Oh—it’s Miss Qi! Of course, that’s fine.”
He returned to his post but couldn’t help sneaking another look at her car, a faint frown tugging at his brows.
Ever since joining the company, he had been added to the big employee chat group. He rarely spoke, preferring to lurk and read the gossip. For the past two months, the hottest topic had been the rumored relationship between Qi Yunwei and President Yan. Everyone said Qi Yunwei was just mooching off her. But, if President Yan was really that wealthy, how come Qi Yunwei was driving such an ordinary-looking car?
At the front desk, it was nearly time to clock out. The receptionist was tidying up her things for the shift change when she noticed the SUV parked brazenly in front of the building.
Her first thought: whoever drove that must not be anyone important—certainly not a high-ranking executive or business partner. Otherwise, why such a low-grade car? And why hadn’t security shooed them away?
Just as she was grumbling inwardly, Yan Zui walked past her, out the glass doors, and headed straight for the SUV.
The moment she opened the passenger-side door, the receptionist caught a glimpse of Qi Yunwei’s face.
The “Enchantress” drives that car?
Yan Zui closed the door, buckled her seatbelt, then turned toward Qi Yunwei. “Are you feeling unwell today?”
Qi Yunwei shook her head. “I feel fine.”
“Good.”
Satisfied, Yan Zui settled into her seat, waiting for them to head home. But Qi Yunwei didn’t move. She was staring at her instead.
Puzzled, Yan Zui asked, “What’s wrong?”
Looking a little sulky, Qi Yunwei muttered, “Shouldn’t you have forgotten to buckle your seatbelt right about now? Then I could have done it for you—closed the distance between us. I read somewhere that looking at each other up close can spark a sense of attraction. I’d even rehearsed the whole move in my head while I was waiting.”
Yan Zui blinked. “Seatbelt safety is basic common sense. Why would I forget that?”
Qi Yunwei: “…”
The truth was, she had no experience in love or pursuit. Once she realized she liked Yan Zui, she immediately turned to the internet for advice. When netizens learned she was picking Yan Zui up from work, nearly all of them suggested the same move: help her buckle her seatbelt. “That,” they said, “is guaranteed to make an Omega’s heart race.”
“You’re right,” Qi Yunwei muttered, finally starting the engine and merging into traffic.
On the way, Yan Zui answered a phone call. Her usually cool expression softened into something faintly excited.
Qi Yunwei, curious, asked, “Why the sudden good mood?”
Yan Zui pressed her lips together, but the smile still slipped out. “One of Yan Corporation’s subsidiaries—the entertainment arm—just confirmed an investment in a new variety show.”
Qi Yunwei instantly made the connection. “Qiao Haiyue and Peng Xueyu’s project?”
“Yes. But not a dating show. The mainstream audience still isn’t ready to accept AA romance. So instead, it’s been reworked into a countryside lifestyle show. It’s called Living With You. Qiao Haiyue and Peng Xueyu are the regular cast.
They’ll each invite friends as guest stars to join them in the countryside, experiencing a laid-back, rustic life.”
“What do you think of the concept?” Yan Zui asked.
Qi Yunwei nodded firmly. “It’s excellent.” Honestly, it was tailor-made for fans of the Haiyue Xueyu CP.
When they arrived home, Qi Yunwei stopped the car. “Unbuckle your seatbelt, but don’t move yet,” she instructed.
Though confused, Yan Zui trusted her. She sat still in the passenger seat, curious to see what Qi Yunwei was up to.
She hadn’t gotten the chance to help earlier, when Yan Zui got in too quickly. But now? She wasn’t about to miss her shot.
Qi Yunwei got out, walked around, opened the passenger door, and extended her hand. “Come on, let me help you down.”
Startled, Yan Zui instinctively placed her hand in Qi Yunwei’s palm and allowed herself to be guided out of the car.
Something about Qi Yunwei felt off today. No, not off—just unusually attentive.
Almost like those inexperienced Alphas in school who fawned over their Omega crushes, all eagerness and raw, unpolished devotion.
But Qi Yunwei chasing her? Impossible. Qi Yunwei was a block of wood. She was probably just coming up with another mischievous way to tease her.
Inside, Qi Yunwei flipped a switch on the wall. A robotic arm slid out and neatly set Yan Zui’s slippers on the floor.
Yan Zui blinked. “When did you install that?”
“This morning. I figured bending down isn’t convenient when you’re wearing business suits all the time, so I added an automatic device. From now on, when you come in, just press this button—no need to bend over for your shoes.”
She added, “It works the same when leaving. Press the button and the slippers will put themselves away.”
Yan Zui looked over at her, only to be met with sparkling black eyes practically shouting, Praise me.
Her lips curved. “That’s a clever invention.” In fact, it was designed perfectly for her. Without keen observation, no one would have thought of such a detail. “Thank you.”
Qi Yunwei tried to mask her delight, pressing her lips together like she was being modest. “As long as you like it, it’s nothing.”
At dinner, she served Yan Zui only a small portion of rice. “You need to rest early tonight and catch up on sleep. Too much food won’t digest well. I’ll make you a feast tomorrow morning and noon to make up for it.”
Yan Zui pointed out two dishes she wanted for tomorrow’s lunch, and Qi Yunwei readily agreed.
Oddly enough, Yan Zui found her tone indulgent.
What was wrong with Qi Yunwei today?
Later, after they washed up and lay down in bed, Yan Zui rolled over and asked suspiciously, “Did you do something behind my back?”
Qi Yunwei replied matter-of-factly, “My life is a straight line between work and chatting with you. Where would I even find the time for mischief?”
Yan Zui thought it over. That made sense. “If it’s not guilt, then there’s another reason.”
Qi Yunwei’s eyes darted away. “There’s no reason.”
To cut off further questioning, she slid closer, wrapped her arms around Yan Zui, and patted her gently on the back. “It’s late. Go to sleep.”
Yan Zui tilted her head up, catching only the sharp angle of Qi Yunwei’s jawline. Her chin rested atop Yan Zui’s head as her voice dropped into a soft murmur. “Want me to sing you a lullaby?”
A shiver of warmth ran through Yan Zui. Her ears flushed red as she shook her head, but her cheek rubbed unconsciously against the soft warmth in front of her.
“No need. I’ll fall asleep quickly.”
She shut her eyes, forcing herself not to think further.
With that steady, comforting scent surrounding her, she drifted off in no time, her breathing smooth and even.
Qi Yunwei, too, had been jittery at first—holding the woman she liked in her arms, she thought for sure she’d lose sleep. But when she tried closing her eyes, sleep came easily.
The next morning, Yan Zui stirred at the sunlight, rubbed her eyes, and finally slipped out of Qi Yunwei’s embrace to sit up.
Qi Yunwei woke instantly from the movement, opening her eyes with a grin. “Morning.”
“Morning.” Yan Zui glanced at her phone. It was half an hour earlier than usual, but since she’d gone to bed so early last night, it was reasonable.
“Are you driving yourself today, or waiting for Zhou Xiao?” she asked as she climbed out of bed.
“Of course I’d rather go with you,” Qi Yunwei said, following her into the bathroom.
Yan Zui gave her a strange look but didn’t comment, simply brushing her teeth. Qi Yunwei stood beside her and brushed hers too.
When Yan Zui washed her face, Qi Yunwei didn’t crowd the sink this time, just stood by watching, which only made Yan Zui more self-conscious.
She hurried through her routine and escaped to apply skincare. Thankfully, Qi Yunwei didn’t trail after her this time, and she finally relaxed.
Something had been off with Qi Yunwei since yesterday, and it was starting to make her nervous.
At breakfast, the table was laid with a meticulous spread. Qi Yunwei picked out Yan Zui’s favorites for her. “I’ve already told Xiao Jiu what to make for lunch. Do you want me to bring it over, or will you come here?”
“I’ll come over,” Yan Zui decided. The two dishes she had requested needed to be eaten fresh from the pot.
“Perfect,” Qi Yunwei said with a smile. “That way my employees can meet you, too.” Today, not only was Liu Xie coming by, but Du Yifan, two programmers, and two interns would also be starting.
After breakfast, they both got into Zhou Xiao’s car. Qi Yunwei’s own car, which she’d only driven yesterday, was left behind again.
“Good thing I didn’t splurge on an expensive one, or it’d be wasted,” she remarked.
Yan Zui countered, “I have five cars. I use this one the most for daily needs, but for events or personal outings, I take the others. As long as they get used, there’s no such thing as waste.”
“All of them are in the Yan family garage. Since you don’t want to buy one, next time we’re there, pick one—I’ll gift it to you,” she added generously.
Zhou Xiao groaned in envy. “Boss lady, see how much President Yan loves you?”
Qi Yunwei leaned close to Yan Zui with a grin and whispered, “How much?”
Yan Zui’s deep eyes flickered, lashes lowering. “At present, about the value of one luxury car.”
Zhou Xiao: “…” Being around these two was unbearable—they radiated shameless, unending flirtation.
When Qi Yunwei arrived at the office, Du Yifan was already there with two programmers and two interns waiting in her office. She walked in, quickly spotting the calm, bookish man in the group. Approaching with a smile, she asked, “123123?”
Du Yifan froze, jaw dropping. He pointed at her, stammering, “Y-you’re Weilan?”
Qi Yunwei nodded, smiling. “And now, your boss.”
The two programmers exchanged stunned glances. “Weilan, forgive the rudeness, but… may we ask your age?”
“Twenty-three,” she answered.
This time, even the interns were shocked. She was their age—yet she was both “the legendary Weilan” and their company’s boss.
Qi Yunwei clapped Du Yifan on the shoulder. “Now that you’re here, I can finally breathe easier. From now on, recruitment is in your hands.”
Du Yifan’s voice trembled with excitement. “Weilan—no, Boss—I won’t let you down. I’ll work hard and live up to your trust.”
Before meeting her, he’d been uneasy. But now, seeing how young and brilliant she was, all his doubts evaporated. With such a prodigy leading the way, what was there to fear?
“Your office is right next to mine. Go take a look—I’ll speak with the others.”
“Yes, Boss.” Du Yifan left, his excitement written all over his back.
Turning to the remaining four, Qi Yunwei said, “Your desks are on the fourth floor. Follow me.”
When they got there, Zhou Tang and Wu Baizhi were already at work. Since developing the holographic game required more staff, Wu Baizhi had started by coding a simple attendance-check system for the company, with Zhou Tang helping refine its features.
“These two are Zhou Tang and Wu Baizhi. They joined a day earlier than you. They tend to focus when they work, so wait until they’re free before introducing yourselves,” Qi Yunwei explained. “Here at Yunmengze, interns and full-timers receive the same treatment except for salary. There’s no hierarchy. Pick any empty desk.”
The two programmers casually chose spots. But the interns froze at the names Zhou Tang and Wu Baizhi. They walked straight over, staring in disbelief.
“Why are you two here?” the bespectacled intern asked the buzz-cut one.
Everyone in Guangnan University’s Computer Science Department knew Zhou Tang and Wu Baizhi had been quietly blacklisted by Zhao Liufang.
And yet here they were taken in by this brand-new startup.
The interns immediately hesitated.
If Zhao Liufang found out, wouldn’t this fledgling company get crushed in no time? Staying here could be risky.
