I Heard I’m a Scummy Alpha? [Transmigration] - Chapter 57
After confirming Qi Yunwei’s status as Yan Zui’s “bewitching concubine,” Huang Momo knew it would be impossible to persuade Yan Zui to change her mind until she came to her senses on her own. So, without missing a beat, she shifted the topic and began talking about her boyfriend.
“My boyfriend just got another promotion. His family isn’t well-off, and he’s a Beta, but he’s independent and ambitious. He always tells me not to help him, that he wants to rely on himself. He says that once he makes a name for himself, he’ll come marry me.”
For some reason, Qi Yunwei felt as if that statement was aimed at her.
From the side, Zhou Xiao gave her a look that clearly said: You’re on your own.
It seemed she wasn’t imagining things—if even Zhou Xiao noticed, then Huang Momo really was throwing shade at her.
Of course, Yan Zui wasn’t deaf to it either. But unwilling to hear her best friend badmouth Qi Yunwei, she smoothly redirected the conversation back to Huang Momo’s boyfriend.
“Where’s your boyfriend working now?” she asked.
“He switched jobs. He’s now the head of the sales department at a rising company.” Huang Momo lifted her chin proudly, brimming with satisfaction.
Yan Zui sipped her tea calmly before continuing, “What kind of rising industry? I don’t think I’ve heard of it.”
“I think it’s called the ‘Great Plan.’ Doesn’t the name sound impressive? With the commission added in, this month he’ll make this much!”
Huang Momo raised a finger in the shape of a “1.”
Chi Yunwei: “…” Isn’t ‘Great Plan’ the name of Qi Fanghuai’s company?
“One thousand? That’s not a lot,” Zhou Xiao muttered under his breath.
President Yan pays three times that as a monthly salary!
Huang Momo shot him a sharp look. “Ten thousand.”
She then waited expectantly, hoping to see admiration on Qi Yunwei’s face. But instead of awe, she was met with an odd expression.
Immediately, she turned to Yan Zui to complain. “Zuizui, did you see her face just now?”
Seeing Yan Zui’s gaze shift over, Qi Yunwei quickly explained, “I was just surprised. ‘Great Plan’ happens to be the company run by Qi Fanghuai.”
Yan Zui had been too busy to review that particular report, so she didn’t know exactly what Qi Fanghuai’s company did. Hearing this, she too was a little startled.
Selling Beta stimulant drugs in itself wasn’t illegal, but the way the company operated was extremely questionable. Reports showed that some managers and sales staff would personally demonstrate the product in front of major clients.
Qi Yunwei felt she had to give Huang Momo a warning.
“Do you know what your boyfriend actually does when he’s working overtime?” she asked.
Huang Momo, fresh out of school, was from a wealthy family and an Omega. Her family had told her there was no need to work, so she had little real-world experience.
“What else would overtime be? Meetings, preparing documents,” she answered, echoing what dramas always showed. Then, suspicious, she frowned. “Why do you suddenly ask? And who’s Qi Fanghuai? You’re not making excuses to exploit employees in the future, are you?”
“He’s my brother by blood.” Qi Yunwei replied.
“What? Didn’t you say your family was poor? How could your brother be running a company?” Huang Momo said.
“It’s complicated,” Qi Yunwei said evenly. “Qi Fanghuai isn’t important. I was just curious. You originally said you’d bring your boyfriend along today, but since he didn’t come, I’m a little disappointed.”
Her tone softened. “I really admire people who strive on their own. Why don’t you give him a quick video call? Just a short hello, it won’t take long—even if he’s working overtime, it won’t delay anything.”
Yan Zui didn’t know what Qi Yunwei was planning, but since she suddenly suggested this, there must be a reason. When she saw Huang Momo still hesitating, she added, “I haven’t met your new boyfriend either.”
Huang Momo could refuse Qi Yunwei, but she couldn’t say no to Yan Zui. “Alright, alright, I really can’t say no to you. I’ll call him now.”
She pulled out her phone. Her boyfriend’s chat was pinned to the top of WeChat. She tapped it and placed a video call.
Qi Yunwei rose from her seat and stood beside her, waiting to see him.
“Zuizui, come here too,” Huang Momo beckoned.
Yan Zui walked over. Qi Yunwei immediately stepped aside to make space for her, placing herself just behind Yan Zui.
Noticing this little gesture, Huang Momo thought Qi Yunwei was being tactful for once.
The phone rang seven or eight times before being answered—not as a video call, but switched to voice.
“Momo, why are you video-calling now? Aren’t you with your friends?” The background was noisy, and the man’s voice came through muffled.
“What are you doing?” Huang Momo frowned. “My best friend and her Alpha want to meet you. Turn on the camera.”
There was a pause, then: “Momo, I’m in the middle of work. I don’t have time for small talk right now. Next time, okay? It’ll be better to greet them properly in person anyway.”
But the sounds in the background didn’t match his excuse. Huang Momo could hear singing, cheers, and laughter.
“Where exactly are you working overtime? Why do I hear karaoke and people shouting? Are you drinking?” Huang Momo muttered.
The man seemed to cover the phone. After a moment, his voice came back from somewhere quieter. “Momo, I’m entertaining a major client. Next time I’ll treat your friends to dinner myself. I really have to hang up now.”
“Xiao Wen, why didn’t you pick me this time?”
A flirtatious male voice carried over clearly before the call was abruptly cut off.
Silence hung in the room.
Yan Zui frowned. “Your boyfriend’s name is Xiao Wen?”
Dazed, Huang Momo nodded.
Since the call had been on speaker, even Zhou Xiao at a distance had heard it all. “Where he’s ‘entertaining clients’ clearly isn’t any proper workplace,” he muttered.
“Call him back on video,” Yan Zui ordered firmly.
Huang Momo tried again. This time, the call was rejected after the first ring.
A moment later, a text message came through on WeChat.
Xiao Wen: Momo, I really am at a nightclub for business. The people being called over are all for the clients, not me. I only cover the bills. Once the contracts are signed, we’re set. I’d never do anything to betray you.
Huang Momo stared at the message in silence.
“Don’t believe a word of it,” Yan Zui said coldly. “All lies.”
Finally realizing what her boyfriend had been up to, Huang Momo flushed red with rage. Her fingers flew across the screen as she fired back message after message.
The reply she got was nothing but shameless.
Xiao Wen: If you think I’m guilty, I can’t stop you. The innocent don’t need to explain themselves.
Qi Yunwei, watching her tremble with fury and nearly in tears, sighed. “He’s not worth it. Do you even know what the so-called ‘Great Plan’ company actually sells?”
Huang Momo shook her head. “No. I’d never even heard of that crappy company. If he didn’t keep bragging about it every day, I wouldn’t even remember the name.”
“What do they sell then?” Yan Zui asked.
Qi Yunwei cast Zhou Xiao a sidelong glance. Zhou Xiao instantly panicked. “Don’t look at me! My girlfriend and I have never touched that stuff!”
That only made Huang Momo more curious. Her grief gave way to impatience. “Stop beating around the bush and just tell me!”
“It’s a kind of Beta stimulant,” Qi Yunwei explained. “It makes Betas release a pheromone-like scent when aroused. That scent enhances stimulation.”
“And from what I know, the first thing new sales recruits are required to do is test the drug themselves.” She didn’t bother to elaborate how.
Huang Momo: “…”
The private room fell into heavy silence. After ten seconds, Huang Momo snapped out of it first. The tears in her eyes dried, replaced by furious clarity. “No wonder he’s so devoted to that company. He basically learned how to cheat the moment he joined!”
She was now just grateful she hadn’t gone further with him. Who knew what kind of diseases she might have caught otherwise?
“Disgusting. Shameless. Filthy. Despicable. He makes me sick!”
On the spot, she broke up with Xiao Wen via WeChat and immediately blocked him on every platform.
“Zuizui, wuwu, I’ve been dumped! Can I sleep over at your place tonight?” Tears welled again as she turned to Yan Zui, looking pitiful.
Yan Zui instinctively glanced toward Qi Yunwei.
Huang Momo caught it, and the tears rolled down faster, glittering like beads. “I knew it—you’ve forgotten your friend now that you’ve got your Alpha. I just got dumped! Can’t you spare me one night? Wuwuwu”
Her words made Yan Zui’s ears burn, though luckily her hair hid the flush. “Alright, don’t cry. I’ll stay with you tonight.”
At once, Huang Momo broke into a grin, tears vanishing like they’d never been. “I knew it—Zuizui, you really are the best!”
Yan Zui could only look at her helplessly yet fondly.
Qi Yunwei, meanwhile, could only marvel at Huang Momo’s lightning-fast mood swings.
And then reality sank in—she would be sleeping alone tonight.
Qi Yunwei: “…”
