I Heard I’m a Scummy Alpha? [Transmigration] - Chapter 50
Qi Yunwei hung up the phone, utterly puzzled.
“Yan Zui, how did Feng Yue figure out our relationship? Did he investigate me?”
After all, everyone in the Yan Corporation already knew she was with Yan Zui. It wasn’t exactly a secret—just asking around would be enough.
Yan Zui shook her head. “Probably not. Your reputation within the company isn’t very good. If Feng Yue had investigated you, he might not have trusted you this much.”
Qi Yunwei frowned, even more confused. “So he didn’t investigate, then how did one sentence from you convince him?”
Setting down her chopsticks, Yan Zui spoke unhurriedly.
“Maybe it’s just something married people can sense. Think about it—during dinner, you answered his call and put it on speakerphone. That made it clear there was no one else around except you and me. I was obviously someone you trusted deeply. And the most important point: you’re an Alpha, I’m an Omega. An A and an O alone in one room, the relationship can’t be simple.”
When she finished, she lifted her gaze toward Qi Yunwei. For an instant, a flicker of emotion rippled through her clear, ocean-dark eyes. Qi Yunwei didn’t quite catch it, but for some reason, her heart skipped a beat.
The air between them suddenly grew hazy and intimate. Qi Yunwei’s cheeks flushed red.
“Yan Zui, can you stop staring at me like that? I can’t handle it.”
Yan Zui narrowed her eyes slightly, as though not understanding. Her lashes trembled, thick and dark.
“Can’t handle what?”
Qi Yunwei, a die-hard face-connoisseur, already needed enormous self-control just to hold normal conversations with Yan Zui. Now, under that teasing, lingering gaze, she could barely keep her expression steady.
“Your eyes are too beautiful.” Qi Yunwei quickly averted her gaze, fanning her cheeks to cool them down.
“No one can look into your eyes for more than ten seconds without falling for you.”
A faint gleam passed through Yan Zui’s eyes. “Is that so?”
“Of course. Never doubt your charm.” You’re the leading lady everyone falls for.
Even if this was supposed to be a tragic heroine’s story, as long as she was here, Qi Yunwei wouldn’t allow Yan Zui to be entangled with scumbags.
The next few days passed idly, leaving Qi Yunwei bored. She threw herself into upgrading Xiao Jiu. Since the future holographic game would need an AI capable of controlling an entire world, she felt Xiao Jiu had the potential to handle it.
A week slipped by in the blink of an eye. One afternoon, after finalizing next week’s schedule with Secretary Shen and granting Zhou Xiao a week’s leave, Yan Zui left work, picked up Qi Yunwei—already packed and waiting—and together they headed straight for the airport to board a private jet to Qiu Hai City.
Upon landing, a prearranged car whisked them away to their residence.
All the travel details had been handled by Yan Zui, so Qi Yunwei only knew they were coming to Qiu Hai to see the ocean. What she didn’t expect was a private beach waiting for her.
They departed at six, arriving at the seaside villa by seven-thirty. The summer sun had just slipped beneath the horizon. From the second-floor balcony, Qi Yunwei gazed out at the crimson afterglow reflected on the waves, a vastness swelling within her chest.
Faced with the endless sea, her troubles suddenly felt so small and insignificant.
Yan Zui came to stand beside her. Qi Yunwei turned with a grin.
“Having a rich wife really is the best. I thought we’d have to squeeze onto a crowded public beach.”
She remembered the bikini she’d bought last time—it was far too revealing to wear in front of strangers. She wasn’t the type to put her body on display. So she had ordered two modest one-piece swimsuits online: arms and legs bare, but everything else covered. Now, it seemed they wouldn’t even be needed.
At the word wife, Yan Zui’s cheeks flushed lightly. She forced herself to remain composed.
“I come here for vacation every year.”
“By yourself?” Qi Yunwei asked.
“Yes. There are professional housekeepers here who handle everything—cooking, laundry, cleaning. It’s convenient.”
Qi Yunwei suddenly felt a pang.
Most of the time, Yan Zui wasn’t literally alone. But to Qi Yunwei, she still seemed lonely.
For some reason, her relationship with her family felt strained. The so-called lovers in the novel were only drawn to her face and body. It seemed no one had ever truly stepped into Yan Zui’s heart.
“By the way, which room are you staying in tonight?” Qi Yunwei asked.
Yan Zui pointed toward the bedroom by the balcony, then belatedly frowned. “What do you mean?”
Qi Yunwei explained cheerfully, “The Xuanqian matter is resolved, and now you’re finally on vacation. You don’t need to force yourself to share a bed with me anymore. I’ll take the room next door this week.”
“…” Yan Zui was speechless.
Had Qi Yunwei not mentioned it, she might have forgotten how much she’d once disliked sharing a room with her.
Back then, she had only done it to avoid suspicion from the housekeeper. Now that Qi Yunwei wanted to separate, she found herself reluctant.
Yan Zui turned back to the glowing horizon without a word, the light in her blue-black eyes dimming.
Puzzled, Qi Yunwei asked, “Why do you seem unhappy? Are you not feeling well?”
Expressionless, Yan Zui replied, “I’m fine. Just a little tired. Let’s turn in early tonight.” With that, she walked back into her room.
Since Yan Zui had worked herself to exhaustion in order to clear her schedule for this trip, Qi Yunwei had no reason to doubt her.
She lingered on the balcony a while longer, watching the sea until the last traces of sunset faded into misty dusk, then returned to her own room.
In truth, she should have suggested separate rooms a week ago. But whether out of habit or something else, she had completely forgotten.
Perhaps Yan Zui, having developed a kind of “comrade-in-arms” camaraderie with her, hadn’t had the heart to remind her. As a result, they had shared a bed for an extra week, which now made Qi Yunwei feel a little guilty.
So when the housekeeper asked earlier if they’d be staying together, she had quickly answered “No,” and had her luggage moved to another room.
After inconveniencing Yan Zui for a whole week, tonight she could finally sleep peacefully on her own.
Qi Yunwei lay down, and within minutes drifted into slumber.
Meanwhile, in the darkened bedroom next door, only the faint glow of a phone screen lit the shadows.
Leaning against the headboard, Yan Zui typed out a message to Huang Momo, her expression blank.
Yan Zui: First day of vacation, and Qi Yunwei voluntarily chose to sleep in a separate room.
Huang Momo: She’s got good sense. Do you want to reward her for that?
Yan Zui pressed her lips together. Huang Momo had completely misunderstood.
Yan Zui: Now that we’re apart, I can’t sleep.
Huang Momo: ?
Never in her life had Huang Momo expected to hear such words from Yan Zui.
Huang Momo: Don’t tell me, are you addicted to her pheromones?
Yan Zui: No.
Huang Momo: Don’t tell me you’ve fallen for her and can’t bear to sleep apart? [laughs]
The moment she hit send, Huang Momo realized how inappropriate that sounded and quickly retracted it.
Huang Momo: Sorry, it’s late and my brain’s not working right. How could you possibly fall for Qi Yunwei? You can’t stand her—if anything, you’d hate her.
But Yan Zui didn’t type a single word for a long time.
Fallen for Qi Yunwei?
She quickly shook off the thought.
Impossible.
Though spending time with Qi Yunwei lately had been surprisingly pleasant, it was nowhere near the point of falling in love.
Still, there was a certain fondness.
Yan Zui: I don’t know the reason either. I just know I don’t want to sleep apart from her.
This time, it was Huang Momo’s turn to go silent.
She herself barely wanted to share a bed with her boyfriend, and yet Yan Zui wanted to sleep with Qi Yunwei every single night?
After some hesitation, Huang Momo forced a light tone: If you want her to stay with you, just say so. Isn’t she your kept woman? You’re giving her three million a month—what, she gets paid for nothing? Compensation comes with obligations. That’s basic common sense.
Yan Zui: You’re right.
Huang Momo: So, are you going to find her now?
Yan Zui: No. She left on her own. I want her to come back on her own.
The next morning, Qi Yunwei slid open the balcony doors to admire the seaside view, then washed up and headed downstairs for breakfast.
A wooden table had been set up right on the sand beneath a parasol, the perfect spot to enjoy food while gazing at the scenery.
The villa’s butler served sandwiches and milk. “Please, enjoy.”
Yan Zui lounged lazily in her chair, eyes fixed on the distance, making no move to eat.
“Aren’t you hungry?” Qi Yunwei asked.
Yan Zui turned her head slightly, her voice calm and flat. “Not really. I don’t have much of an appetite.”
Qi Yunwei noticed the faint shadows under her eyes. She set down her sandwich, walked over, and studied her carefully. Her brows furrowed. “You didn’t sleep well last night? Is it because the bed feels unfamiliar?”
No—it wasn’t the bed. It was the person.
Yan Zui raised her hand to stifle a small yawn, her pale blue eyes shimmering faintly. “I slept. I just don’t know for how long.”
“The sea air is a little damp—maybe you’re not used to it,” she added casually, as if it was nothing.
But Qi Yunwei looked worried. “Eat a little, then go lie down for a while.” She picked up a sandwich and held it to Yan Zui’s lips.
“Thank you.” Yan Zui lowered her gaze and took a small bite.
When she swallowed, Qi Yunwei offered her another. This time Yan Zui turned her head away. “No more. I really don’t feel like eating.”
“Then maybe go straight back to sleep?” Qi Yunwei suggested.
Yan Zui shook her head again. “If I nap now, I won’t be able to sleep tonight. Just leave it.”
She slowly got to her feet and began walking toward the shore. Seeing her steps unsteady, Qi Yunwei hastily abandoned her breakfast and followed.
The sea breeze tousled Yan Zui’s long hair. Irritated, she gathered it up into a loose tie, exposing the delicate curve of her pale ear.
Qi Yunwei’s eyes widened. “This is the first time I’ve seen you tie your hair up.”
“Not flattering?” Yan Zui asked languidly, glancing back at her.
“Of course it’s flattering. Surprisingly flattering,” Qi Yunwei replied, watching her closely.
With her hair tied back, her clean and striking features were fully revealed, lending her a sharp, elegant air that felt entirely different from usual.
Yan Zui gave her a faint smile, carrying with it a lazy sort of allure.
Qi Yunwei’s heartbeat quickened, carried along with the sea breeze.
They reached the shore. The sand was scattered with shells left behind by the receding tide.
“In the afternoon, we could change into swimsuits and go for a swim,” Qi Yunwei suggested.
“Sure.” Yan Zui lowered her head and idly kicked at a wave.
Sensing her absentmindedness, Qi Yunwei was about to ask what was wrong—when a surprised female voice suddenly rang out in the distance, calling Yan Zui’s name.
“Yan Zui! It really is you!”
Both women turned. A fair-skinned young woman was running toward them.
Though the sand should have slowed her down, she sprinted effortlessly and reached them in no time.
She was shorter than Yan Zui, with the soft, pretty appearance of a delicate Omega—but in fact, she was very much an Alpha.
Qi Yunwei found her vaguely familiar but couldn’t recall where she’d seen her before.
The woman’s gaze was locked solely on Yan Zui, her eyes sparkling. “I can’t believe this! What a coincidence. Are you here on vacation too?”
At a resort like this, what else would one be here for?
Qi Yunwei narrowed her eyes slightly, a trace of vigilance rising.
People who struck up conversation with no substance usually had ulterior motives.
