I Heard I’m a Scummy Alpha? [Transmigration] - Chapter 106
“You’re too kind,” Qi Yunwei replied with a faint smile. Her tone was polite but distant—colder, in fact, than when she had been exchanging cards with those overly enthusiastic entrepreneurs earlier.
When Wen Fu wasn’t around, such a subtle shift might have gone unnoticed. But both Director Zhao and Yan Zui immediately picked up on it.
Director Zhao assumed Yunwei was simply shy in front of elders, while Yan Zui knew better—this was how Yunwei behaved toward people she instinctively disliked.
Yan Zui squeezed Yunwei’s hand under the table; Yunwei caught those restless fingers and held them still.
“I’ve heard of Jinzhao Youjiu for a long time,” Wen Fu said with a smile. “They say it’s a fully intelligent kitchen where every operation is run by an AI robot. I wanted to meet you back then, but later, when Immortal Unseen came out, I was completely stunned by your innovation. When Lao Zhao introduced you just now, I could hardly believe it—the owner of both Jinzhao Youjiu and Yunmengze is actually you.”
Qi Yunwei remained modest. “It’s really not just me. The credit belongs to everyone in the company.”
Wen Fu shook his head. “Without your leading technology, such an advanced system would never exist.”
He paused before continuing, “To tell you the truth, my current project— Smart Brain Project—needs talents exactly like you. I’d like to formally invite you to join us.”
Qi Yunwei was about to refuse when Wen Fu added, “I represent Guangnan University. If you agree, the school will grant you the title of Honorary Professor.”
Yunwei blinked in mild astonishment. “An honorary professor? You’d ask a dropout like me to be a professor?”
“Academic credentials don’t define capability,” Wen Fu replied, his tone calm but persuasive, like a patient mentor guiding a student. “You have the ability to hold that title.”
Had Yunwei not already known Wen Fu’s true nature, she might have been swayed by his eloquence—perhaps even tempted by the offer.
Indeed, Wen Fu knew exactly how to manipulate people. To a university dropout, a title like “Honorary Professor” was the perfect lure, an elegant way to patch over a lifelong regret.
But Qi Yunwei only said lightly, “I’ll give it some thought, Professor Wen.”
Wen Fu’s eyes flickered with doubt. Her response was too composed—strangely unruffled.
He turned to Yan Zui with a genial smile. “Then I’ll count on you, Zui Zui, to help persuade your Alpha.”
“Uncle Wen,” Yan Zui’s faint smile vanished, her tone cooling, “I listen to Yunwei in everything. Persuasion isn’t my area of expertise—you may have asked the wrong person.”
Even the shrewd old fox Wen Fu paused for a heartbeat before laughing it off. “Ah, newly married and already devoted—always siding with her Alpha, I see.”
“I should go say hello to a few friends.” Wen Fu glanced to the side. “Lao Zhao, make sure to take good care of them.”
“Of course,” Director Zhao replied with a smile. “I invited Yunwei and Zui here myself—they’ll be well looked after. You go on.”
After Wen Fu left, Director Zhao introduced them to a few more guests.
A few minutes later, Shen Yelan finally returned after handling the situation with Xuan Baiquan. Her brow was furrowed as she complained to Yan Zui, “I have no idea where that lunatic came from. He refuses to answer any questions.
Surveillance shows he came in with a woman, and the guards are looking for her now.”
Director Zhao chuckled. “Seems like quite a few people are jealous of Yunwei tonight.”
Qi Yunwei smiled. “Apparently, being too outstanding has its drawbacks.”
Director Zhao burst out laughing.
Meanwhile, on the other side of the hall, Qi Fanghuai finally spotted Wen Fu and led a few others toward him. They blocked his path.
“Professor Wen!” Fanghuai greeted.
Wen Fu stopped, his expression mild. “Fanghuai. What brings you here?”
“Professor Wen, these are my friends,” Fanghuai said, introducing Qin Lifeng and the others. “Professor Wen is an investor in my company and also my mentor. Without him, I’d still be a nobody in a research lab.”
“Don’t belittle yourself,” Wen Fu said warmly. “You have great potential.”
Fanghuai smiled awkwardly, hesitating before adding, “Professor Wen.”
“Go on,” Wen Fu encouraged. “You know I value you highly. If there’s something I can help with, I’ll do my best.”
Fanghuai felt a wave of relief—though he couldn’t say why, he always felt a subtle pressure around Wen Fu, despite the man’s gentle demeanor.
“I heard the owner of Yunmengze is attending this banquet tonight,” he said. “My friends have admired them for a long time. Would you mind introducing us?”
“That’s all?” Wen Fu chuckled. “Of course.”
The four men’s faces brightened with excitement.
Just then, a few of Wen Fu’s acquaintances approached, wondering why he hadn’t joined them yet. When they saw who he was talking to, surprise flashed across their faces.
Weren’t these the same people who’d just been badmouthing Qi Yunwei earlier?
Since when did Wen Fu associate with such fools?
Still, Wen Fu greeted them all politely. “I was just about to take these young friends to meet the owner of Yunmengze. Would you like to join us?”
The newcomers exchanged uneasy glances.
Meet the person they’d just insulted? Awkward didn’t even begin to cover it.
Especially since one of them—Qi Fanghuai—turned out to be Yunwei’s own brother, completely ignorant that his “little sister” was the very boss they sought.
“Sure, we’ll come along,” someone said at last, intrigued. After all, who’d miss the chance to watch a good show?
Wen Fu, distracted by the evening’s unexpected complications, didn’t notice their expressions—or didn’t care. These people were no longer useful to him anyway.
Together, they made their way toward Qi Yunwei and Yan Zui.
Because Fanghuai and his friends held lower status than the others, they had to follow behind.
“Ah, Professor Wen again,” someone near Yunwei said with a playful smile as the group approached. “And he’s brought quite a crowd! Yunwei, you’re certainly popular tonight. Luckily most of them are Alphas and Betas—otherwise, Zui might start getting jealous.”
Hearing that elegant female voice—and the names Yunwei and Zui—Qi Fanghuai’s group immediately frowned.
Qi Yunwei again? That woman really was everywhere. Was she trying to use Yan Zui to cozy up to Yunmengze’s mysterious owner now?
Please. Someone that powerful wouldn’t give an Alpha like her a second glance.
“I have some young friends who’ve long admired Yunwei’s work,” Wen Fu said cheerfully. “They asked me to bring them over. You’re all about the same age—should get along well.”
He gestured them forward with a smile. “Come.”
Fanghuai and the others fought down their irritation and stepped up. But the moment they saw Qi Yunwei’s smiling face, rage nearly boiled over. They forced themselves to look instead at Yan Zui.
“Yunwei,” Wen Fu said, “these are the ones who wanted to meet you.”
“Fanghuai, weren’t you eager to meet Yunwei?” he added with a teasing tone. “Why so quiet now?”
“Perhaps he’s just speechless from surprise,” Yunwei said lightly, her eyes glinting. “Isn’t that right, dear brother?”
Qi Fanghuai’s pupils contracted; he felt his blood run cold. “Professor Wen,” he managed stiffly, “are you saying that the owner of Yunmengze is her?”
Wen Fu nodded. “Unexpected, isn’t it? I was shocked myself when I learned. Yunwei, by the way—why did you call him brother?”
Someone nearby burst out laughing, unable to resist explaining, “Didn’t you know? This is Miss Qi’s actual elder brother! He was just trashing his own sister earlier in front of everyone. Guess he didn’t realize she was the powerhouse behind Yunmengze.”
“I’ve read about ‘fools who can’t recognize treasure,’” another added dryly. “But witnessing it live is truly enlightening.”
Laughter and mockery rippled through the crowd. Qi Fanghuai and his companions went pale, their faces alternating between white and green.
Finally, Qin Lifeng snapped. Pointing a trembling finger at Yunwei, he shouted, “It’s true Qi Yunwei dropped out of college—you can check the records yourself! What proof do you have that she’s really the owner of Yunmengze? On her failing grades alone?”
He glared at her, voice rising. “There’s no way she could be that capable! She must be an impostor—someone who tricked everyone here into believing her lies!”
