I Heard I’m a Scummy Alpha? [Transmigration] - Chapter 105
“Stupid” Qi Yunwei greeted the crowd with a bright, easy smile.
“Hello everyone, I’m Qi Yunwei.”
The others responded with awkward, forced politeness.
They had no idea why Yan Zui had chosen such an Alpha, but what was done was done. For Yan Zui’s sake, they couldn’t embarrass Qi Yunwei too much.
When no one engaged further, Qi Fanghuai and his companions were soon edged out of the circle.
Qin Lifeng glanced at the three frowning faces beside him and asked doubtfully, “That was your so-called ‘subtle, sophisticated mockery’? No offense, but I didn’t see anything sophisticated about it—it was just straight-up provocation.”
He was beginning to regret teaming up with them.
He had thought they’d be better at these kinds of social games, that their scheming would make up for what he lacked. But now, it seemed their brains were even less useful than his own.
Liang Kejue, seeing Qi Fanghuai’s face darken, quickly tried to explain, “The situation was urgent. We had no choice. If we hadn’t said those things, Shen Yelan and the others would’ve shoved us aside immediately. They wouldn’t bother chatting with us or listen to us hint at anything about Qi Yunwei.”
Xuan Mingzhu chimed in, “Actually, Fanghuai’s new strategy was working fine. But then Yan Zui’s reaction completely saved Qi Yunwei. And the way Qi Yunwei herself acted—so calm, like she didn’t care at all—made it impossible for others to keep mocking her. If she doesn’t mind, anyone who keeps at it is just offending Yan Zui for nothing. Better to drop it.”
Qi Fanghuai’s expression turned darker still as he watched Qi Yunwei standing beside Yan Zui, surrounded by people eager to talk to them.
If it wasn’t for Yan Zui, Qi Yunwei would be nothing more than a weed by the roadside—someone no one at this banquet would even glance at.
“Where’s your brother?” Qin Lifeng asked, finally relenting a little after their explanation. “Haven’t seen him for a while.”
Xuan Mingzhu frowned. “No idea. Probably sneaking off to slack somewhere. Forget him. Let’s focus on what to do next—we can’t let tonight go to waste.”
“The person who gave me the invitation will be here later,” Qi Fanghuai said. “I can ask him to introduce us to a few key people. Make sure you take advantage of that. As for Qi Yunwei, we’ll have to play the long game—there’s no chance of doing anything about her tonight.”
Qin Lifeng pressed his lips together in displeasure but didn’t argue since the other two seemed to agree.
“By the way,” Xuan Mingzhu added suddenly, her tone lifting, “Baiquan said earlier he overheard that the boss of Yunmengze will be here tonight.”
Qi Fanghuai’s eyes lit up. Qin Lifeng, too, looked impressed—both of them clearly admired that legendary figure, the one who made billions in a single morning.
“I wonder if we’ll have a chance to speak with him,” Qin Lifeng murmured.
“That’ll be tough,” Qi Fanghuai replied. “Everyone here wants to meet him, and most of them outrank us.”
“Can’t that bigshot you know make an introduction?” Qin Lifeng asked hopefully.
Qi Fanghuai shot him a sidelong glance. “I’ll ask,” he said curtly, his tone chilled by irritation. Qin Lifeng was getting greedy—introducing him to some contacts was one thing, but wanting to latch onto Yunmengze’s boss through him was another matter entirely.
While the three of them discussed strategies with polite smiles and hidden resentment, Xuan Baiquan finally reappeared, trailing discreetly behind Director Zhao.
He made sure to keep a safe distance—just one or two meters away—so as not to attract attention.
After Director Zhao met up with Commander Wu, the two men stopped to chat in place.
Xuan Baiquan hid behind a patch of ornamental greenery nearby, peeking through the leaves to eavesdrop.
Suddenly, a group led by three people began walking toward Zhao and Wu. When they came close enough, Xuan Baiquan recognized the faces.
Yan Zui. Qi Yunwei. And a man he didn’t know.
The moment he saw Yan Zui, his eyes lit up—then darkened with fury as his gaze fell on Qi Yunwei.
How could she possibly be here?
Yan Zui must be blind, completely deceived by that useless woman.
He strained to listen. Though he couldn’t make out every word, he could tell Yan Zui first shook hands with Director Zhao and Commander Wu, then Qi Yunwei followed suit. The man beside them was little more than a background figure.
Then he faintly caught Zhao’s voice saying something that included the word “married.”
Instantly, the faces around them changed—everyone’s eyes brightened. They all rushed forward to shake Qi Yunwei’s hand, showering her with compliments.
“Such promise.”
“So enviable.”
“An honor to meet you, truly admirable.”
The more he listened, the darker Xuan Baiquan’s expression became.
Were these people all blind?
So what if Qi Yunwei had married Yan Zui? That didn’t change the fact that she was worthless. How shallow could they be—to fawn over her just because she married an Omega like Yan Zui?
The smile on Qi Yunwei’s face stung his eyes like a blade.
No—he couldn’t stand by and let her bask in this glory. She didn’t deserve it.
With his jaw set and his lips pressed tight, Xuan Baiquan stepped out from behind the greenery, courage boiling in his chest as he strode toward the crowd.
He shoved through the onlookers until he reached the front and shouted,
“Qi Yunwei! Stop pretending!”
Everyone around froze mid-smile, staring at the man who had suddenly appeared out of nowhere.
“Sir, please refrain from saying inappropriate things on such an occasion.” As the host of the banquet, Shen Yelan immediately stepped forward, raising her hand to signal for security.
Xuan Baiquan brushed past Shen Yelan and strode directly up to Qi Yunwei. Pointing at her, he said loudly to the crowd, “Don’t be fooled into thinking Qi Yunwei is impressive just because she’s Yan Zui’s Alpha. The truth is, she’s a worthless Alpha who couldn’t even graduate from university and only ever dreams of taking shortcuts! Haven’t you read the entertainment news? Her fans call her the ‘Kept Alpha.’ What a disgrace—an Alpha like her isn’t worth your attention, even if she’s with Yan Zui!”
After blurting it all out, Xuan Baiquan noticed that everyone was staring at him as if he was an idiot.
He froze.
Shouldn’t they be sneering at Qi Yunwei right now?
Shen Yelan raised her hand again. Several security guards immediately rushed over.
“Please escort this gentleman out,” Shen Yelan said coldly.
Before Xuan Baiquan could even react, a few tall, burly guards pinned him down and dragged him out of the hotel.
Turning back to Qi Yunwei, Shen Yelan apologized with a polite smile. “I’m terribly sorry. I don’t recall inviting this person—no idea who he came with.”
Her tone was surprisingly courteous, even more so than when she had been speaking with Yan Zui earlier.
Qi Yunwei replied calmly, “Just a minor interruption, Ms. Shen. No need to take it to heart.”
Shen Yelan exhaled in relief, visibly grateful for her composure. “I’ll go take care of the situation.”
Ordinary people would have been furious after such an outburst, but Qi Yunwei remained perfectly poised, even able to smile and speak at ease.
As expected of Yan Zui—she truly had an excellent eye. Even the Alpha she chose was extraordinary.
Just as Xuan Baiquan was being hauled out of the hotel, he caught sight of Xuan Mingzhu and the others. He immediately began thrashing and shouting, “Sis! Help me!”
Xuan Mingzhu turned in shock, about to rush over, but was stopped by Qi Fanghuai beside her. “If you go, they’ll throw you out too.”
She hesitated for a moment, and by then, Xuan Baiquan had already been carried outside.
Moments later, they saw the banquet organizer Shen Yelan hurrying out as well—clearly to deal with the aftermath of Xuan Baiquan’s stunt.
“I suggest you stop cleaning up after your idiotic brother,” Qin Lifeng said dryly, arms crossed.
Thinking of all the foolish things Xuan Baiquan had done, Xuan Mingzhu sighed in exhaustion. “Maybe, but he’s still my only family.”
Qi Fanghuai said, “I’ll find out why he was thrown out.”
He took a glass of champagne and left. Less than five minutes later, he returned, his expression dark.
“What happened?” Liang Kejue asked.
Qi Fanghuai glanced at Xuan Mingzhu, a mocking smile tugging at his lips. “Your dear brother managed to offend the boss of Yunmengze within minutes of showing up. Impressive, really.”
Xuan Mingzhu drew in a sharp breath. “Is he insane?”
That was the boss of Yunmengze—someone everyone here was dying to befriend. Xuan Baiquan might be slow-witted, but he wasn’t a complete fool. How could he possibly insult a man like that?
Director Zhao stepped forward and addressed the surrounding guests. “Everyone, I understand you’re all eager to speak with Miss Yunwei, but you’ve seen what just happened. It could have been much worse—if that man had been armed, not only Miss Yunwei, but many of us might have been hurt. Let’s disperse and give the three generals assigned by Commander Wu a chance to properly protect her.”
The three generals, dressed in plain clothes, had been discreetly guarding Qi Yunwei throughout the banquet. But with so many people crowding around her earlier, their view had been blocked—allowing Xuan Baiquan to slip through.
As the crowd thinned out, Qi Yunwei found herself holding over a dozen business cards—some minimalist, some exquisitely designed.
Director Zhao leaned in conspiratorially. “Come, I’ll introduce you to someone.”
Qi Yunwei and Yan Zui exchanged curious looks and followed him. He led them to a refined-looking man. “This is my wife’s classmate, Professor Wen Fu from Guangnan University’s Department of Computer Science—the chief architect of the Smart Brain Project.”
“Professor Wen, this is Qi Yunwei—the person you’ve been eager to meet. She’s the owner behind Yunmengze and the lead developer of Immortal Unseen.”
Qi Yunwei was about to shake his hand when she froze for a split second at the mention of his name. Quickly regaining her composure, she extended her hand politely. “Professor Wen, it’s a pleasure.”
“Wen Fu!” Xiaoman exclaimed internally. 【He’s the final villain—the scum who shows up at the very end!】
【Too bad the novel wasn’t finished before you transmigrated, Master. I only know his name—and that he’s awful.】
[It’s fine. We’ll deal with him if he crosses our path. He’s just a professor—he couldn’t reach Yan Zui before, and he won’t now.]
No sooner had Qi Yunwei thought that than Wen Fu turned toward Yan Zui, greeting her with a natural smile. “Zui Zui, long time no see. How’s your father’s health these days?”
Yan Zui treated him with the polite respect reserved for an elder. “Uncle Wen, without me stressing him out, his health should be much better.”
From their exchange, Qi Yunwei gleaned three things: Wen Fu was an old acquaintance of the Yan family; he knew full well why Yan Zui was estranged from them; and this hypocritical old man had once harbored unwholesome intentions toward a younger relative.
Qi Yunwei had expected Wen Fu to continue chatting with Yan Zui, but after just two lines of polite talk, he turned his attention back to her.
“I must say, I was astonished when Old Zhao told me you’re only twenty-three. Yunwei, you’re truly remarkable at such a young age,” he said with a genial smile, glancing meaningfully at Yan Zui. “And you and Yan Zui make quite the pair.”
