- Chapter 11 - Showing Affection Rapidly
The game began very quickly.
The first round was considered a trial run to let Gu Yan get a general understanding of the rules and character settings. The second round would officially begin; if the Good Faction won, the Werewolf Faction would be responsible for all of tomorrow’s chores, but if the Werewolf Faction won, the Good Faction would handle all of tomorrow’s work.
With stakes on the table, everyone had no choice but to be serious and solemn.
The roles were determined by drawing lots. The one who drew the Judge was Gu Yan, and she let out a huge sigh of relief.
She had only just memorized the general process and characters. If she were really forced to start playing actively, she was afraid she would drag down her teammates in the same faction.
After observing a round, it had to be said that the actors’ skills were indeed more powerful; their brains worked fast, their acting was excellent, and their emotional delivery was perfectly on point. They completely baffled several people who had come from singer-talent show backgrounds, leading them into traps one after another.
The only one who was rather wronged was Gu Ming, who was targeted and voted out unanimously by everyone. An innocent civilian perished just like that, which was incredibly amusing.
The duration of one round was decent, taking about half an hour. The Werewolf Faction won by a narrow margin. Cheng Ming and He Xin successively displayed profound, old-fox-like smiles, saying with deep meaning and gravity that everyone would have a hard time tomorrow.
The others: “……”
“It’s not like one round decides victory or defeat, what’s the rush? Let’s go again.” Unwilling to admit defeat, You Sa rolled up her non-existent sleeves.
“As expected of seniors in the industry, your acting is top-tier. In the next round, we must vote you guys out first,” Xu Wen said.
“Hey, don’t blindly snipe the innocent. What if we are good guys in the next round?” Cheng Ming laughed out loud.
“Exactly, you can’t avenge personal grudges publicly. What if we are in the same faction as you?” He Xin also laughed.
“So, why did you blindly snipe me first? I am very innocent, hey,” Gu Ming spread her hands and smiled helplessly.
“Wasn’t it just out of fear that you might be a werewolf?” You Sa scratched her hairline sheepishly.
“We were afraid you were the Hunter. With your eyesight, if you easily rooted us out, we would suffer a huge loss,” Cheng Ming explained solemnly.
“Yes, we were worried that you weren’t in the same faction as us, and leaving you behind would affect us,” He Xin chimed in.
Gu Ming didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.
“Alright, alright, second round, second round,” Song Ai urged to start.
In this round, Gu Yan drew the role of the Witch. When she put away her character card, she accidentally locked eyes with Gu Ming, who winked at her.
Although she didn’t know what it meant, she still followed her heart and protected Gu Ming.
Consequently, the Good Faction lost in a completely baffling manner because the Witch poisoned the Hunter and even saved Gu Ming, who was the most deeply hidden werewolf.
For a moment, members of the Good Faction wailed one after another.
Gu Yan looked at this person and then at that person, her heart entirely unperturbed.
“You can’t blame Yan. It’s her first time playing, and she didn’t expect a werewolf to self-knife,” Gu Ming explained on Gu Yan’s behalf.
Kang Yu agreed: “True, who would have thought a werewolf would self-knife in just the second round? I said it before, we should have voted that big nuisance Gu Ming out at the very first moment.”
Gu Ming laughed out loud.
“Wasn’t it because we were worried about voting the wrong person again? Who would have expected this!!” Yu Sa cried out, tilting her head back to look at the heavens.
“Alright, let’s hurry up to the next round. I want to switch factions. I feel like the Good Faction is a bit cursed tonight.” Zeng Jiu was already impatient.
“Don’t jinx it, there is still hope for the Good Faction.” Yu Sa, who had been on the Good Faction side consecutively, would not allow Zeng Jiu to curse their side.
Zeng Jiu cooperatively zipped her mouth shut.
Outside, the rain was heavy and the wind was rustling sharply. Inside the tent, the lights and shadows flickered, and the atmosphere grew increasingly heated.
The game had already reached the fifth round. Unfortunately, Gu Yan was once again a heavyweight character the Prophet.
Habitually, she skipped checked Gu Ming. During the final review and recap, she was caught by others. Yu Sa from the Good Faction cried and shouted, telling the two of them to stop showing off their affection, and even uttered that classic quote—”Don’t let the game become a part of your play.”
Gu Ming pretended to be innocent and spread her hands: “How can this be called showing affection? Am I not winning by strength?”
“If Gu Yan hadn’t gone easy on you, you would have been voted out long ago!” You Sa snorted.
“How could that be? Didn’t everyone give up on voting for me because of my splendid speech?” Gu Ming still maintained an innocent face.
Everyone collectively showed faces of disdain.
Gu Ming laughed out loud.
Gu Yan also silently curled her lips slightly, gazing at Gu Ming without blinking for a single moment.
Cheng Ming’s eyes flashed, and he smiled to smooth things over: “Alright, let’s continue with the next round. Worst case scenario, we’ll just vote both sisters out.”
“Good idea!” Xu Wen was the first to chime in.
“Seconded. It’s better to let the two sisters get eliminated so they can go show their affection elsewhere,” Yu Sa laughed exaggeratedly.
He Xin could not help but smile, while Kang Yu and Song Ai successively agreed. Gu Ming looked at Gu Yan, spreading her hands and shrugging: “It seems we have become public enemies.”
“Advancing and retreating together with you, there is nothing bad about that.”
“Tsk, tsk, tsk, someone is starting it again.” Yu Sa made a disgusted face.
Everyone burst into laughter.
No one knew exactly how many rounds they played. By the time the firewood completely gave out, everyone had no choice but to call a miserable halt, taking the final result as the baseline.
Yu Sa, who had bad luck all night and had only ever been a civilian, almost knelt down to her teammates: “I beg everyone for protection, we absolutely cannot lose. I want to slack off!”
“Is it really good to expose your identity so early?” Gu Ming smiled slyly.
Yu Sa immediately put on a serious face, trying to gloss over it: “Our side is bound to win.”
Then, she was maliciously voted out by the Werewolf Bloc.
“Honorable Judge, I am wronged! It shouldn’t be like this!”
“Rest assured, our side is bound to win.” Gu Yan uncharacteristically showed a streak of mischief.
Gu Ming glanced at her. Feeling her gaze, Gu Yan hurriedly restrained her true nature, freezing her face into a stiff expression.
With a mournful face, Yu Sa turned around and asked Song Ai miserably: “Can the rain stop tomorrow? Actually, I really don’t like rainy days; that song ‘Rainy Day’ wasn’t sung by me.”
Song Ai was amused and laughed uncontrollably.
As expected, the Werewolf Faction won. But what comforted Yu Sa was that both Gu Ming and Gu Yan were in the Good Faction; they had finally reaped the consequences of their own actions!
“Hahaha.” Yu Sa placed her hands on her hips and laughed toward the sky, satisfied.
Gu Ming helplessly pressed her forehead: “We suffered a setback.”
Gu Yan also accompanied her in sighing: “We were careless.”
Xu Wen: “My broken hand.”
Yin Shi: “A miscalculation, a miscalculation. Acting too well is a sin.”
Cheng Ming laughed out loud: “Tomorrow will be hard on everyone.”
He Xin also stretched her back, intentionally saying in front of Yu Sa, who shared the same tent: “It looks like I can sleep in tomorrow.”
Yu Sa immediately looked up at her pitifully: “Sister Xin…”
“Alright, we from the defeated team should hurry up and rest. Hopefully, the rain can stop tomorrow. If not, we can only miserably accept our fate.” Gu Ming began to dismiss the guests.
The place everyone gathered was Gu Ming and Gu Yan’s tent. Only their tent was made to be the most spacious, followed by Cheng Ming’s. However, there were many females in the group, so it was inconvenient to go to the one belonging to him and Xu Wen.
As soon as the people left, the space instantly became deserted and quiet.
The bonfire had darkened drastically, with only a bit of the base faintly emitting a touch of firelight.
A crowd would always generate garbage. Their character cards were pieces of broad leaves; after playing a few rounds, the leaf surfaces were already a disorganized mess that could not bear to be looked at, and needed to be discarded.
The utensils they had used for eating also needed to be packed up to be taken out for washing tomorrow, and the bottles placed outside the tent to catch water also needed to be brought back.
Gu Yan originally intended to do it herself, but she didn’t expect Gu Ming to silently come over to help.
“It’s fine, I can clean up quickly by myself. You should rest first.”
“How can I let my younger sister work alone? Besides, isn’t it faster for two people together?”
“But you have already been tired enough today.”
The character cards were leaves that Gu Ming went out to pluck, she also had a share in gathering firewood, and building the fire and putting out the water, bringing everyone over from various branches…all of it was done by her alone. How could Gu Yan let her continue to laboriously busy herself with the aftermath?
“How does this count as tired?”
Seeing that Gu Yan was still looking at her with concern, she leaned forward slightly, approached, and pinched her nose: “Alright, don’t waste time. Let’s finish packing up quickly so we can rest quickly. Tomorrow is when it might be tiring.”
Tomorrow, the five of them had to fully cover the chores of ten people.
Gu Ming withdrew very quickly, leaving Gu Yan standing in place with her face completely flushed.
Just now, it was so close.
