- Chapter 4 - I Became the Goddess's Live-in Son-in-Law?? (Part IV)
Si Xuansu pulled her horse to a stop outside the courtyard and leaped down from the saddle, her posture exceptionally heroic and graceful. However, her face carried a hint of anxiety. Zhi Gui and the others hurried forward to meet her. Si Xuansu walked with wind in her steps; before she even had time to ask questions, she headed straight into the courtyard.
Upon hearing that Yin Qiang had arrived at the courtyard, Si Xuansu had rushed back from the army in a hurry. She originally thought she wouldn’t make it in time, but the courtyard was empty. She heard from the maidservants that Jiang Yiqing had used a transformation technique to deceive Yin Qiang, which left her utterly amazed.
“But the young master has locked himself in the room now. He was quite proud just a moment ago, but now he’s suddenly afraid to see anyone.”
Si Xuansu let out a soft laugh; she really wanted to see what he looked like now.
She arrived at the door and knocked, but there was no movement inside.
Jiang Yiqing had wrapped the quilt around herself tightly, but she still heard the knocking. She poked one arm out of the quilt, intending to open the door, but her other hand firmly held herself back.
No way. Even if it was Si Xuansu knocking, she couldn’t open the door. She absolutely could not let her see her in this state. Especially after talking so big just now—if the maidservants told Si Xuansu, she couldn’t imagine how Si Xuansu would look at her.
“Miss Jiang?” Si Xuansu called out from outside the door.
Jiang Yiqing covered her ears and pretended she didn’t hear. She knew she was being a coward despite her earlier bravery, but right now, she had no choice but to play dead.
“…Yiqing?” Si Xuansu called out tentatively.
Jiang Yiqing’s heart skipped a beat—the Goddess had changed her way of address to “Yiqing”! But now was not the time to be paralyzed by affection; Jiang Yiqing told herself she must resist the temptation of sweet words.
“Yiqing, no matter what you look like, I won’t laugh at you. Be good, come out and open the door,” Si Xuansu said in a coaxing tone.
Jiang Yiqing was deeply wavered. Was it more important to follow her words, or to protect the image she had in the Goddess’s heart? She didn’t want to lose either!
Jiang Yiqing got off the bed, walked to the door, and slid back the bolt.
Seeing her wrapped so tightly in the quilt that she looked like a round ball—not even a single eye showing—Si Xuansu burst into laughter.
She reached out to pat her head and said, “What is the point of draping a quilt over yourself like this?”
Jiang Yiqing said in a miserable voice, “Xuansu, just let me keep it on. Once this transformation technique of mine takes shape, it takes a while to wear off.”
“So there is such a transformation technique? That only makes me more curious.” Si Xuansu cupped Jiang Yiqing’s cheeks through the quilt and said, “I feel like… there’s no difference from before.”
Jiang Yiqing let out a tragic shriek and said, “Don’t touch!”
Si Xuansu chuckled softly, “Why such a big reaction? Do you care that much?”
“I care.” Jiang Yiqing was the typical case of being loud-mouthed but cowardly; now that the momentum had passed, she began to feel she had overdone it a bit.
“You care this much, yet you still did so much for me? Yiqing, I must thank you this time,” Si Xuansu said softly.
“Wuuu…!” Jiang Yiqing threw off the quilt and buried her head into Si Xuansu’s embrace, crying out, “Xuansu!”
She moved so fast that Si Xuansu didn’t even see her face clearly, but she didn’t care about that anymore. She held her in her arms, feeling that her personality was sometimes like that of a child.
However, she was a lovely and pitiable child.
The Goddess smelled so good, and the feeling of hugging her waist was so comfortable. Jiang Yiqing was so intoxicated that she didn’t even want to move her head; she felt she could happily die hanging onto her.
They say “to die under a peony flower is to be a romantic ghost even in death”—so this was what it felt like… Jiang Yiqing shook her head slightly, feeling she had grasped the true essence of the word “romantic.”
Si Xuansu didn’t mind either, letting her cling to her body as they walked into the room and sat down by the bed.
Jiang Yiqing realized she was blatantly taking advantage of the Goddess. An ordinary person would have been blushing with shame by now, but Jiang Yiqing didn’t care. To stay in the Goddess’s arms a bit longer, she even started hoping the transformation powder would wear off slower.
As a result, she didn’t even notice that the clothes on her body had already reverted to their original state. One of Si Xuansu’s hands rested on her waist; it felt as though the Goddess could encircle her waist with just a slight tightening of her grip.
“Young Master, you’ve worked hard. Do you need to wash your face?” Zhi Li asked.
“That’s right, Young-in-law, how long are you going to cling to the Young Master? It’s about time you got down, isn’t it?” Zhi Gui sighed, looking at her with a sense of “hating that iron won’t turn into steel.”
She saw her family’s Young-in-law’s legs turn so weak upon meeting the Young Master that she couldn’t even walk. Just now, she had been practically carried to the bedside by the Young Master. She felt the Young-in-law definitely had ulterior motives.
“Not yet,” Jiang Yiqing said with a sobbing tone, squirming in Si Xuansu’s arms to act spoiled.
“Then let’s wait a while,” Si Xuansu said dotingly. “It’s only natural for a girl to care about her appearance, especially since Yiqing is originally so beautiful. It’s normal to be concerned.”
Beautiful as a flower…
“Xuansu…” Jiang Yiqing let out a kitten-like cry in her arms to express her inner excitement.
She praised her again! The Goddess was so good to her; she was so happy she could explode!
Si Xuansu gently stroked the top of her head, feeling as if she were raising a cat. For some reason, while stroking her hair, she felt like all her worries were forgotten, as if it had a stress-relieving effect.
Thus, the two stayed together quietly. The maidservants stopped bothering them, occasionally glancing over, feeling as if there was an invisible wall between the two of them and the rest of the world.
No one had ever seen Si Xuansu look so relaxed at home.
Even when she was at home, she was never idle—she was either reading, practicing martial arts, or even holding temporary meetings with her subordinates. No one had ever seen her spending leisure time like this.
Finally, Jiang Yiqing felt that at least half an hour had passed. After confirming with the system, she lifted her head from Si Xuansu’s embrace.
Since she couldn’t stroke her hair anymore, a trace of regret appeared on Si Xuansu’s expression.
“Xuansu, I won’t disturb you anymore,” Jiang Yiqing said coyly.
Si Xuansu said, “I have nothing else to do today. Change your clothes, and let’s have a meal together.”
Si Xuansu changed into a set of white robes, which made her skin look whiter than the clouds, looking as ethereal as an immortal. The servants were quite surprised, as the Young Master rarely wore such eye-catching clothes.
“I don’t know if the people from the Yin residence will come looking for trouble again these next few days, so I will try my best to stay home more,” Si Xuansu said to Jiang Yiqing. “I feel bad letting you face troublesome matters alone.”
Jiang Yiqing felt the atmosphere was a bit ambiguous and said with a red face, “It wasn’t that much trouble…”
“Is that so?” Si Xuansu smiled. “But I don’t want you to worry too much.”
Jiang Yiqing nodded. “If you can stay home more, I think Father-in-law and Mother-in-law will also be very happy.”
In the evening, Si Xuansu took her to the Madam’s room for dinner. After learning that Jiang Yiqing had forced Yin Qiang to retreat, her Father-in-law and Mother-in-law praised her immensely, making Jiang Yiqing quite embarrassed.
She told her Father-in-law and Mother-in-law some jokes, making them laugh so hard they couldn’t close their mouths. It was clear they adored her even more now.
“Although Yiqing is a girl, she is the husband of Xuansu in name. The household will serve you according to the standards of a son-in-law. If anyone dares to be negligent, you just come and tell us,” the General Father-in-law said.
The Mother-in-law also said, “The wedding was concluded in a hurry because the Marquis of Huaiyi was pressing too hard and went to ask the Emperor for a marriage decree. We could only rush to complete the wedding before the imperial decree was issued. Yiqing, do not take it to heart. From now on, the Jiang family is our kin, and we will take good care of them. You are already a member of the Si family; if you lack anything or need any help, you can come and tell us.”
Jiang Yiqing nodded and accepted, saying, “I married in on behalf of my brother. Not only do Father-in-law and Mother-in-law not blame me, but you also treat me so well. I don’t know how to express my inner gratitude.”
“What are you saying? As things stand now, I feel that you entering our family, Yiqing, is better than any man,” the General Father-in-law said, narrowing his eyes thoughtfully.
The Si family only had the Goddess in this lineage. In ancient times, when a daughter was an only child and commanded an army of hundreds of thousands, the drive for profit made countless people stir with restless ambition.
