I Got Together With the Fake Heiress - Chapter 94
After the weekend, Wen Yunqing noticeably became busier. Aside from attending her normal classes, she went out almost every day, with the time spent ranging from one to three hours.
Wen Yimeng found it strange, and although she asked, she didn’t get a specific answer from Wen Yunqing. She only knew that her girlfriend was dealing with matters related to the Special Affairs Department.
Wen Yunqing wasn’t lying. She was indeed busy with Special Affairs Department business, but unlike before, this time she was actively offering to help, using her free time to seek out the demons and evil cultivators hiding in Jing City, rather than passively accepting assignments.
Evidently, Wen Yunqing was doing this all for Wen Yimeng. She couldn’t recall any demons capable of entering dreams and even constructing illusions in the victim’s Sea of Consciousness. So, she simply decided on a large-scale clean-up. Any demon or ghost appearing near Jing University became a target she needed to deal with.
The facts proved that Wen Yunqing’s actions were somewhat effective. Since she single-handedly captured three Great Demons and brought them to the Special Affairs Department, both the demon race and ordinary cultivators rarely showed up in Jing City.
Under these circumstances, the middle-aged man could only temporarily abandon his plan to use Li Hong to invade Wen Yimeng’s Sea of Consciousness. Instead, he urged his subordinates to quickly retrieve Wen Yunqing’s umbilical cord, hair, or similar items.
On the other side, the individuals executing the middle-aged man’s orders were his two subordinates with only minimal cultivation, who we shall call Subordinate Number One and Subordinate Number Two.
Following the address provided by their superior, the two traveled by plane and then train. They then followed the navigation, turning left and right, and went through great pains to find the correct village.
“You’re looking for Wen Yunqing’s maternal grandmother?” The village head was still the same university student as before, but he was no longer as naive. He had become a little more mature and his conduct was more steady and assured.
“I apologize, do you have any tokens or credentials? The two of you look a bit unfamiliar,” the village head said with a smile. The fact that they were wearing suits and sunglasses made him feel like they weren’t good people.
“Tokens? What time period is this? Why would we need that just to find someone?” Subordinate One said. “Wen Yunqing is a student in the Law Department at Jing University. Can that count as a credential showing we know her?”
“Are you going to make us call her? You should know that the competition pressure at Jing University is intense. Wen Yunqing must be in class right now,” Subordinate Two chimed in.
Hearing their familiar tone, the village head’s wariness lessened slightly. “You’re right. It’s mainly because Student Wen specifically mentioned it to me before she left, so I asked a few extra questions.”
“What matter brings the two of you here this time?” the village head asked while leading the way.
“It’s nothing serious. Wen Yunqing just left something behind here and asked us to come and pick it up for her,” Subordinate One said.
The village head nodded and casually asked some questions about Wen Yunqing. The two subordinates who were sent had reviewed the relevant information, so the village head’s questions didn’t stump them, and they answered very naturally.
Soon, the village head brought the two of them to the place where the grandmother lived.
“Grandma, Grandma, are you home?” The village head knocked on the door. After a short while, Wen Grandmother came out and opened the slightly ajar door.
“Grandma, these two are Student Wen’s friends. They said they came back to pick up some things,” the village head said.
Wen Grandmother stared at the two of them, her gaze not particularly friendly. “What is your relationship with Yunqing?”
After Wen Yunqing started earning money, she had hired a doctor and changed the medication for Wen Grandmother. After more than a year of treatment like this, Wen Grandmother was now stable and looked much like an ordinary elderly person.
“We are Wen Yunqing’s friends. She’s busy studying at Jing University and can’t spare the time, so she asked us to come and retrieve the things she left behind when she was little,” Subordinate One said. “Grandma, do you know where these things are kept?”
“You are her friends?” Wen Grandmother looked at them suspiciously. “Then tell me, what is her phone number?”
Subordinate Two was stunned and instinctively looked at Subordinate One. The phone number was not mentioned in their briefing materials.
“Of course I know that,” Subordinate One said with a smile, then randomly recited a number, looking confidently at Wen Grandmother. “Grandma, is the number I gave correct?”
Wen Grandmother didn’t say anything because she didn’t know Wen Yunqing’s current phone number; she always waited for the other party to call her.
“That’s not right!” the village head suddenly interjected. “I have Student Wen’s phone number, and it’s not the same as the one you said!”
“Is that so? Perhaps Wen Yunqing gave us her other number,” Subordinate One reacted quickly and immediately found an excuse. “Since she came to Jing City, it’s important to have a local number, it makes things convenient.”
The village head still felt that something was amiss. He took out his phone, hesitated for a moment, and then directly dialed Wen Yunqing’s number. If he was suspicious, he might as well verify it.
On the other side, seeing the incoming call display on her phone, Wen Yunqing stopped what she was doing, a look of surprise on her face.
Just as she was about to answer, the call suddenly hung up. When she called back, she received the message that the other person’s phone was switched off.
That’s strange. Why would the village head call her? And then switch off his phone after calling? Was it an accident or a coincidence?
“I’m warning you, don’t refuse a toast only to drink a forfeit!” Subordinate One figured out the village head’s intention. Before the call connected, he snatched the phone, hung up, switched it off, and threw it far away.
“Who are you people!” The village head was stunned, then quickly started shouting for help. “Everyone, come quickly! There are people trying to steal things here! Call the…”
“Bang—” Subordinate Two directly pulled out a gun and fired a shot into the sky. “Nobody move! If anyone comes closer, I won’t be polite!”
Subordinate One cursed the fool under his breath, then immediately grabbed Wen Grandmother by the collar. “Tell me, where are the things Wen Yunqing left behind when she was little? Her hair, her little clothes, where did you hide them all?”
Wen Grandmother remained silent, staring at the person with an expressionless face.
Subordinate One threw Wen Grandmother aside in frustration, then began tearing the room apart, looking for the things he needed.
